Submission at The Tower: The Depths of Desire
After a break of nearly three months, I am thrilled to say that the Brandon blog is back this hump day with news of my new release and first ever full-length erotic BDSM novel!
Submission at The Tower: The Depths of Desire. is an erotic, BDSM novel and a unique, intense and fast-paced exploration of one woman's journey into sexual submission. Set in the luxurious and mysterious location known only as 'The Tower', the story is told entirely through Janie's eyes and offers the reader an insight into every arousing high and insecure low that she experiences there.
Upon arrival, Janie consents to 'audition' for the men of The Tower and from there the reader is invited to bear witness as her every dark and delicious fantasy unfolds at the hands of her new masters. Writing Good Sex – Thoughts from a twisted mind…
Imagine the moment if you will... You're about to write a sex scene, and not just any old sex scene, but the sort which sends hearts fluttering, blood pumping and groins twitching! So how do you begin? What is your muse? How do you translate the passion in your mind to the sexual chemistry that keeps readers turning the pages of your book? Do you know the secret of writing good sex?
I have read books and articles which claim to know this secret. There are (apparently) various techniques you can employ to whip your reader in to a sexual frenzy of arousal and desire. I am not claiming that these articles are wrong. I am sure there is more than one way to achieve written sexual ecstasy and I am not suggesting that I have all of the answers. Far from it in fact!
Nobody ever taught me how to write good sex, but I have been told by readers and other authors, that I do sometimes manage it! The secret is (for me) not such a mystery after all. Good erotica is much like good sex outside the pages of a book. There are certain conditions which need to be in place - and if you can call upon them all, in the right way, at the right time - then you have everything that you need.
My characters need deep-seated sexual desire; a kink of their own, be it the desire to be dominated, spanked or led around the room on a dog leash... The type of desire doesn't matter - it only has to manifest itself as something all-consuming for each individual. Add to that some sexual chemistry. A character has to meet someone (or some people in a menage), who spark their curiosity and ignite the sexual need in them (see condition one). Mix these two components together for a while and you're building the right recipe for some cracking sex, but what else is required?
At this point the conditions may vary, depending on the author, genre and length of the story. Some writers use suspense to build intrigue, others use conflict to build an emotional attachment (or detachment) between characters. In my case I use a sense of the forbidden (a taboo even), which compounds or propels my characters into seeking satisfaction for their desire. I also use consent. This is not essential in erotica - lots of people read and enjoy non-consensual (or dubious consent) stories - but (so far) it is a requirement in my writing. I want each character involved in the sex scene to really want the sexual act(s) which I am about to deliver for them. I want them hard and dripping with desire for whatever scene I am penning...
If all of these conditions are met, then I know I am good to write and (usually) carve out something kinky and debauch for my readers, but there is one final test which has to be passed before the scene is ready. So what is the acid test for Felicity? How do I know if the scene is a winner? It's simple - the acid test is arousal itself. Is the scene passionate? Have I built a sexual crescendo? Is the sex arousing? Can I imagine how the characters look entwined in each other's bodies? Am I getting increasingly hot and squirmy as I am penning the scene? Does it make me horny when I read it back? If the answer to any of these questions is no, then I got something wrong and it's time to go back and rewrite it.
For Felicity, the secret is easy. To write good sex, you have to feel it, breathe it and live it with your characters. You must feel their desire; the heat of each kiss and know how the touch of a hand will feel against a thigh. You have to go from a simmer to intensity and feel each impending climax. If you can do this then you're not just writing good sex, you're writing bloody great sex!

Spanking for pleasure – the final taboo?
If there's one theme in my erotica then it's spanking. An over-the-knee spanking or a 'bend over and touch your toes' type; it's all the same to me...
In fact I never realised just how obsessed I was with spanking until Felicity started to pen some short stories on the subject. Then I found that no matter who the characters are, what they are doing or where they are, I will somehow always manage to get a good spanking into the plot!
So I obviously enjoy a consensual, erotic spanking, and what's wrong with that you might say? (I know at this point there may be some who have a lot to say, but remember I said consensual and that means that everyone involved wants to play!) I am not writing about coerced spanking or abuse. There is nothing erotic about hitting somebody who does not want to participate and this type of act constitutes an assault. For me the line is clear and easy to differentiate between. Whilst (in my opinion) there is room in literature for both subjects, I write about sexual surrender and spanking, not physical assault.
Now back to erotic spanking... It's true that domestic discipline is a very popular genre in the erotica market and yet I have never marketed my stories in that direction. For me, the spanking is always part of a much deeper and more intimate D/s (Dominant/submissive) connection, and is either used as a punishment or a reward, depending on the nature of the act. I love that trust between two characters; the submissive gives her partner the power to destroy her, and the trust that he never will. I find this infinitely fascinating... and arousing!
I recently just started to pen a brand new spanking scene. I woke up one morning last week and the muse literally hit me (pun intended!) With this in mind, I started to think about all of the other hot spanking scenes I have written... Some of my favourites are penned in my recent book,
Submission at The Tower: The Depths of Desire, but there are also other hot scenes in the previous books...
In The Abduction, Vicky gets a road-side spanking whilst her husband watches the action; in Friday's Lesson, Jenna submits to Oliver in order to save their rocky marriage; Destination Anywheresees Alisa taken to a diner and punished for her own good, and Customer Serviceis the story of Polly's first-time lesbian spanking! So you see, I really can find a spanking for every occasion!

Writing BDSM...
Yes, I write about sex for a living... Not just any kind of sex either, but the most kinky and depraved type you can imagine! It's a dirty job and this girl is certainly happy to be doing it!
That said, writing BDSM erotica is (for me) about so much more than just the giving of commands and gratuitous screwing. For me the real joy of this genre comes from the interplay between the characters; the intense desires of both the dominant and the submissive. Without this interaction, you miss the trust and intimacy which are implicit in sexual power exchanges; without it you miss the 'needs' of both people... I want to create a growing sexual chemistry between them, and then develop that passion, making the craving they feel so palpable that it virtually drips off the page!
When other authors of erotica have reviewed my stories, they are often surprised by how long it can take for the 'action' to get underway, but like all the best things, I believe the actual sex is worth waiting for. My stories are sensual, sexy and laced with female submission. I aim to leave the reader as desperate for release as my characters... And I hope that they'll come back for more once they've tasted my brand of BDSM erotica!
