A Poet To A Young Maiden And The Girl’s Reply

“Let us pile high the fire my dear.

Come you near

and warm the cockles of your heart.

Let us practice love’s art.

Draw closer and sit upon my knee.

Let us make free

like the amorous swan

for time rolls on

and desire, ‘tis soon gone.

“Sir

My mother warned me to beware

Of poets who pretty verses spin

Lest they lead me into sin.

Good night to you noble sir

I must be off and wash my hair”.

Death’s Dance

Taken in lust

His dust

In equality

Floats with the quality.

The abhorred

Whore

Dances with the bishop

Who wisheth

It were not so.

All men must go

To that place

Where the race

ends

And night descends.

My Favourite Authors & What Is Reading?

Olivia provides a wonderful description of what reading means to her. One which I wholeheartedly endorse. Kevin

Literature is ever-evolving. Authors are churning out new books with each day, in the hopes they’ll be applauded. They go on, they live, they die, they’re replaced. There is a never-ending list of aspiring writers, but all writers – young or old, new or existing, aspiring or acclaimed – have one thing in common: the reader.

An Early Halloween Poem

Light fades.

Shades

In forgotten graves

stir.

Black cats purr.

Despair

On a broomstick travels.

Joy unravels

As hope dies

And the vampire

Glides

Through pitch black skies.

Listening To The Morning

The sun on my bookcase.

Books, their plain binding suffused with light.

Cars pass.

The song of the bird, here then gone.

The traffic continues on

Swishing as the great tide

That ebbs and flows.

The bird sings again

Competing with the vehicles noise (and winning)!

A crow khaws once.

A woodpecker joins in.

9:40, sitting at my computer, listening to the morning.

Fiona Sinclair And Message In A Bottle Poetry Magazine

Several days ago I was helped across the road by the partner of the poet, Fiona Sinclair. Fiona was on her way to the Poetry Society for a poetry reading. I must confess to not having been familiar with Fiona’s work prior to our chance (and very brief) meeting earlier this week.

On reaching home I did some digging (if one can do such a thing as digging online) and found that in addition to her own work Fiona also produces “Message In A Bottle”, a magazine featuring the work of poets other tha...

As a writer I am delighted when a fellow blogger or contact on social media shares my work or my posts. In turn it gives me great pleasure to reciprocate but it helps when people come to me or make it easy for me to share their books, posts, tweets etc.

On WordPress there are a number of buttons that you can install that enables others to follow and share...

Heaven And Hell

To float on a cloud

As angels sing loud

Hymns

about the redemption of sins

Would, I think

Drive me to drink.

The devil would wink

And invite me to sink

To his abode below.

Should I choose to go

There would be good cheer.

bitter beer

and a warm fire, forever near

Well Spoken Girl

A girl well spoken.

The doors that could open

close

on this delicate rose.

The primrose path to hell is sweet

But the way back will defeat

Those who walk on dainty feet.

Don’t judge a book by it’s cover

Or you may discover

Something other

Than you bargained for.

Janus stands atop the door

while the raven does khaw.
