T-Minus seven days...
I'm a certifiable, hot mess.
Why you ask?
Well, it's simple really. Because in exactly one week (seven long, torturous days) baby number five will be released into the wild. No, sillies, I'm not popping out a real kiddo, (God knows I have enough of them as it is) My book baby is totally what I meant, here, jeez. ♥
*giggles*
First, I want to tell you little about how this bookie came along. It was a total wing-it book. One I wrote in literally a month. I had Callie in my head, telling me this story in a day, and she wouldn't shut up until I wrote it all down. So I did. And it was a hot, hot mess. (at least for a little while.)
After I cleaned it up, I went the query the agent route first. (Had some serious interest, too.) But being a newbie, I didn't realize that querying agents AND pub houses was pretty much something you just don't do. (oops!) BUUUT, things happen for a reason and I wouldn't, for the life of me, change the course that this book has gone down.
Georgia from Swoon Romance favored my pitch during an online Twitter pitch party. (See!! Those fabulous events really do work. See my post HERE for that story.) And such is the history that is Finding Her Way Back.
Finding Her Way Back isn't exactly my run-of-the-mill-book, either. Yes, it's most definitely romanced centered. But it's also family centered, as well. I won't give a lot a way, but just be warned that the cute, adorable factor that is my blurb has nothing on the REAL story that is Callie--Calla Lily--Bennett.
Any who, in honor of this special ONE WEEK UNTIL MY RELEASE occasion, (sorry, I'm just a teeny bit pumped, if you can't tell.) I decided to let you get to know my characters a bit more. Share some of their one liners, maybe? Give you a peek into their heads and thoughts. And yes, show off my pic inspirations as well. (All courtesy of the interwebs, by the way.)
So without further ado, here I go!! *gulps*
Meet Callie, a chubby-sexy nineteen-year-old girl who fears high heels, commitments, and has a love/hate relationship with her running shoes.
Isn't she adorbs? When I first started hunting for my Cal, it was difficult to find the girl who suited her cuteness and her curves. This girl (pardon me for not knowing her given name) is EXACTLY who I saw in my head as I wrote the story.
Callie's got a mouth on her. An attitude, but not in the sense that's she's mean. More so she's got a wall built around her that can't be knocked down. Well, that is until she see's Ky again. Ky being her once skinny-skater-boy-turned-sex-god, ex-best friend, Ky. But we'll get to him next. Trust me.
My favorite Callie one-liner:
"Yes, for Ky’s penis, I would so kick my dad’s ass tonight."
*giggles* I'm so stinkin mature, right?
Meet Ky; a nineteen-year-old wanna be country music singer and a boy-turned-man who still wears a proverbial skateboard around his neck from wasted high school days.
I've shared this stunning man's picture many a times on Twitter and Facebook. But let's get one thing straight. He. Will always. Be mine. But, um...could you not tell my hubby this? Cause, well, you know...
Oh, Ky. My sweet, sweet, Ky. You want a man who treats his lady right? THIS is the guy. I wrote Ky with one thought on my brain: RESPECT. And boy does he do that, and then some. Not only is the guy sexy as SIN, but he's fights for Cal; is so determined to make her his that he never. Ever. Gives. Up.
My favorite Ky one-liner:
“I’m going to touch you now, Calla Lily. And then tomorrow? Tomorrow, I’ll hold your hand.”
Swooooon. :)
Okay. So I have to introduce you all to Anna, next. (Callie's older, not so wise, mean sister.) No, not the chickadee from FROZEN. (Mind you I wrote this book BEFORE FROZEN was even released, so take that. Boo-yah)
Anna is a misunderstood bitch. (Pardon my language, but there is really no other word to describe her.) In a way, she's a villain, but she's also a girl with whom you might eventually love in the end. I'll let you all be the judge of that, though. Her story is told in a different novel entitled: NO SUCH THING AS INFINITY.
And oh, boy is she in for it.
But the thing about Anna is, her and Cal are one in the same in a way: two lost girls who have no idea how to move on from a tragedy. (And NO, I will not even give you a hint as to what that tragedy is.)
Personally, I think I loved writing her story more than any other girl. Why? Because she was an unreliable narrator with a heart laced in evil, but lined inside with love. So, there you have it. My only hope for Finding Her Way Back, is that somehow, in some way, this story touches your heart like it's touched mine.

It's really happening...

Meet Callie. She’s nineteen, quirky, and fears commitments. She also has a love/hate relationship with her tennis shoes.
Nine months of college, done and gone, and all Callie has to show for it is her freshman thirty. But alas, no worries, life has other crap plans for her now. Plans that include a set of nuptials from hell for her older, she–devil sister Anna. Struggling to rid her chubby–sexy vibe, Callie is put on a strict Anna regimen of ‘do this do that’ while attempting to avoid the unavoidable. The unavoidable being Ky Hampton: her once skinny–skater–boy turned sex–god, ex best friend from across the street.
Kylan feels as though he is a waste. A mechanic, country music singer with not a lyrics to his name. A boy with a proverbial skateboard still strung around his neck from high school. He’s lost, and he’d be the first to admit it. But the moment he spots Calla Lily––with a cemented penis in hand––the more he realizes that she’s exactly the muse he’s been missing.
But when the going gets tough, and the secrets of her past grow thicker, Callie has to figure out if her tennis shoes will be her escape this time around in life, or her demise instead.

Pitcharama
Title: His Game, Her Rules
Author: Heather Van Fleet
Genre: Upper Young Adult Contemporary Romance
Word count: 90,000
Synopsis:
Five years after the fire that killed both of their mothers, neighbors Dani, the star clarinetist, and Xavier, the champion wrestler, have only one objective in life: make sure their fathers don’t kill each other. But after one night in handcuffs for Xavier, this mutual goal takes a backseat to something much more...unexpected.
Convinced that Dani Parker is exactly what he needs to regain his father’s respect after his drug possession and underage drinking charges are dropped, Xavier does everything he can to persuade this 'nerd girl' to be his pseudo girlfriend. Except, yeah, that’s kind of a problem when Dani wants absolutely nothing to do with Xavier Faulkner, Hispanic playboy extraordinaire.
It's only when a secretive wrestling–induced eating disorder begins to dig its claws into Xavier, and love starts to blur the lines between fantasy and reality, that this unlikely twosome must work together to right way more than a reputation.
At 90,000 words, HIS GAME HER RULES is Romeo and Juliet meets Simone Elke's Perfect
Chemistry told through through the eyes of both the hero and heroine.

Lucky seven post
My fellow Swoon Romance sister and friend C.J Burright tagged me in the Lucky seven snippet. I've never done one of these before, so I'm kinda pumped! And of freaking course I had to throw in a GIF or two because...well, I like them. And to me, you can never see enough GIFS.
Rules:
Go to page 7 or 77 in your current WIP.
Go to line 7
Post on your blog the next 7 sentence or 7 lines—as they are!
Tag 7 people and do the same
So, without further ado...here's mine. This is from my recently completed new adult book, The Imperfect Try and this is Collin's (my hero) trying to be nice after he was a real pain in the...well, you get catch my drift.
Resolved with the fact that he needed to apologize, he jumped up to follow her.
“Wait.” He cleared his throat, pulling her back around by the shoulder.
She stiffened under his touch but didn’t move away.
“Look, can we, I don’t know, start over or something? I mean, I know I was an ass this afternoon, but I wanna get to know you…” Touch you.
Oh hell. Where’d that shit come from?
“I…” Slowly, she lifted her chin, her lip pulled between her teeth as she met his gaze.
That’s when he saw it—the marring of her beautiful face. What the hell? “What the fuck happened to your eye?”
And because you were so sweet to stop by, here's a little Thom Evan's eye candy for you. (Professional rugby player turned model and the character inspiration for my Collin) You're welcome.
Now for the few lucky ladies I get to pick on... I mean, pick.

Nothing new...nothing bad...nothing amazing...just right.
So...summer vacay is here. *cue the confetti* Wait. No confetti. *Cue the need to eradicate sleep so I can stay up all night and work instead?* Yeah, that sounds about right. Too bad it'll never happen.
My kids are home EVERY day ALL day now, therefore my writing has taken a backseat to softball practices, trips to the park, sleepovers that never end, and swimming. Don't get me wrong, I still work my booty off every single time I sit down at my computer, but when the little girl fists start flying, and the "I'm bored's" have kicked in, then that typically means the 2,000 words I just wrote, winds up being crap.
But alas, it's okay. I'm surviving, regardless of the fact that I may or may not need some sanity meds by the time the clock ticks bedtime every day. But hey, being a mother is the most rewarding job on the planet, so of course I wouldn't change it for the world. What I might do though, is demand a raise in Starbucks rewards from my hubby.
I've got a sequel for my Swoon Romance bookie, Finding Her Way Back, that needs finishing by the end of July. Yikes. Six weeks away is not that long. (note to self: deadlines suck) I'm doing fairly well with that one. It's my main character's sister's story. She's straight up mean and wicked, but she has her reasons. Trucking along at 40,000 words and counting, with an 80,000 word goal, I have to remind myself that I'm in control here. I can do this. Hell, I once wrote a 30,000 word novella in two weeks. So, I've totally got this. I think...
Now for some downer news. I'm almost to the point where I have to shelve my Romeo and Juliet retelling, His Game, Her Rules. *cringes* I've queried the agents. I've had six full requests. And almost all have passed. Except for one. One in which I'd literally fall off the earth for if she ever said "Yes, this book is astonishing and I wanna rep it now!" (hahahah... Sigh... A girl can dream, right?)
The rejections have gotten soooo much easier, though. I will say that one! I don't curl up in a ball and cry for a few hours anymore. Nor do I stuff my face with ice cream and Oreos either. *um, yeah, I totally did those things the first time. Husband asked if I was gonna make it. My 3 girls cuddled with me on the couch and we sang along with Frozen until I didn't feel like my life had been sucked away to the pits of literary hell.* Now, instead, I shrug them off, and say, "there's always tomorrow, right?"
So with that being said, I'm excited to say I've already started to send out a hand full of queries for my New Adult book (the one with the sexy rugby playing daddy, and the curvy half-Filipina girl who...well, I can't tell you more than that.) I will say that i'ts a book that took me over a year to write, mainly because I had so many other things to work on. It's also the dirtiest book I've ever written to date. the plethora of names for the man's private parts is the clue for that. THE IMPERFECT TRY has been through the betas and CP's all that jazzy goodness. I've received nothing but positive reactions for it too. Yet still, those ugly little nasty doubt worms have crept into my brain, and therefore I have to wonder, is it good enough? Of course, like all authors, my doubts are never ending. I'm always second guessing myself. Yet this time, when a piece get's broken from my sort of carefully guarded heart, I'm sure as hell going to strap on my girly balls and hold myself together because I. Am. A. Force.
Okay...maybe not AWESOME. But just me. A girl who has been through the ringer to get where I'm at now. (Long story meant for another post, trust me, you don't wanna hear about my journey.)
Life's busy, and I'm trucking on. Reading more, reviewing more too. (WA-HOOOO!) In fact, I think I've read more books these last two weeks than I've read the last three months. It's exactly what I've needed. Because the bottom line is, books are my escape, whether I'm writing them, or reading them, doesn't matter. What matters the most, is that I love doing those two things. And I always will. If my girls make it impossible, or a slew of bad rejections come it too. I'm here, and I'm not going anywhere anytime soon!
And here's an adorable little bear because... well, just because.

Spotlight: Fallen Angel by Alisa Anderson and Cameron Skye

Blurb: When Jess packed up her belongings and fled her small hometown in Kansas, she never looked back. Free from her family’s dark past she was finally able to pursue her lifelong dream as a professional dancer. She never expected to find herself at his door...or at his club.
Nikolas was unlike any other man she had ever met. Sexy…Alluring…Predatory. Dangerous. The kind of man with more secrets than even she had. Every instinct warned Jess against knowing him further, but she always did like playing with fire…
Nikolas Roman took one look at Jess and knew she was trouble from the very start. But something about the defiant twist of her mouth and the wide, haunted eyes of a damaged soul touched him in places he had long ago thought dead. He knew he needed to stay far away from her for his own sanity, but like a moth to a flame he was helpless to resist…
Working at Takers gentleman's club was the last place Jess thought she would find herself, but she quickly learned how the game was played. See what you want, take what you can get…but at what cost?
Authors’ Bio:
Alisa Anderson
well...alisa did stuff and is still doing stuff. only now she has two boys crazy enuff to want her as their mommy. hey, at least she tried to warn them, so her job is done. she doesn’t like to capitalize, partially because she likes how lower case letters look visually, but mostly out of laziness. please don't judge. it could be you. and she would say, hey. you're alright, buddy. you're ok in my book. now c'mere for a hug. the hug might be pushing it. air kiss? you are strangers, after all, with only a mutual love of poor grammar.
she lives for a world full of controllable anatomically correct, android men programmed to meet her specific feminine needs (wink, wink, nudge, nudge with a big waggle of the eyebrows). who look like the rock. and ian somerhalder. and idris elba. and that's it she promises. variety. gotta have variety, right?
but alas...apparently that exists only in johanna lindsey's genius mind. so until then, she enjoys her incredibly warped sense of humor. she reads tons of erotica and romantic, drippy goo that makes her heart go pitter patter. then she thought, hey. what, she said to herself. (softly, of course, so no one finds out she is indeed, 2 nuts short of a fruitcake) maybe you should write this stuff too. maybe someone will like it and maybe buy it. so she said, huh, you think? then she said, well...yeah, i wouldn't have suggested it...(inserts sarcastic tone) and then she was like lose the attitude, ok? then she was all, would you just shut up and write, already? sheesh! and she did. :)
Cameron Skye
When Cameron is not in the lab working toward a Ph.D., in Neuropsychopharmacology, which in laymen's terms is basically finding the effects drugs have on mood and behavior, she is writing stories, crating vivid, intense characters you will never forget.
She believes while life can take you down every path but the right one, eventually everyone will find their happily ever after.
Does your mother know what you’re reading?
