The Eaton By John K. Addis
“Reading John K. Addis was like reading an eighties horror movie. It’s fast paced, macabre and full of gritty atmospheric settings, along with a relentlessly chilling plot from an author who’s mastered the genre!”
The story begins when Sam Spicer, the main protagonist, becomes the legal owner of the long-abandoned Michigan Central Railway Station in Eaton Rapids, with big dreams of turning it into a hot new martini bar. However, Sam’s plans come to a sudden halt when he and his friends discover a secret twelve-floor Victorian hotel that’s situated directly underneath the station. In their curious attempts to explore the hotel, they soon discover that it is free from dust and that the old Victorian elevator is fully functional. Upon further inspection, they soon realise that there were once guests over a century ago that showed signs of leaving in frenzied panic. After further unusual, mysterious and gruesome discoveries they decide to go in search for answers to find out what happened to the original guests and why the hotel became abandoned, only to discover that they are all being pursued by a creäture with incredible powers, who could trick them, make them see things from their deepest memories to try and prevent them from escaping his abandoned underground world.
The story does shift back in time to Jonathon Wesley, an Archaeologist who gets an exclusive invite to the grand opening of The Eaton, in exchange for his examination and opinion of the owner’s underground discovery. Jonathon in turn goes on to study and document the petroglyphs with caution as some unforeseen and incredible events soon unfold, that he is convinced are connected to the petroglyphs that he feels depict a tangible threat. Jonathon’s unique back story alone equips the reader with most of the knowledge and clues that Sam and his friends need to escape the relentless beast of another world that has clearly massacred dozens of people before them. The biggest question is will Sam and his friends be able to find the answers from the past before it’s too late, and if so will it help them in conquering the beast? Or will their attempts fail and lead to their own demise?
What a fantastic book. It’s not often I find myself so absorbed in a book that grabs my attention from the onset up until the last page. I literally couldn’t put it down in fear I would miss something about these wonderfully, yet flawed characters’ that may help them in their impossible mission to discover the truth. Congratulations’ Mr John K. Addis you have just gained a life-long fan. I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.

5 Star Book Review: Million Dollar Question By Ellie Campbell

Million Dollar QuestionBy Ellie Campbell
This is a compelling tale of two very different women who face a number of life altering decisions. Rosie Dixon is in her early thirties, a single mum who is facing redundancy. Her life completely changes when she wins a million pounds. One minute financially strapped, and then a millionaire. She is shocked at the greed, ingratitude and viciousness of people and accidentally stumbles upon a secret that will change the course of her life permanently.
Olivia at the age of 33 takes the new financial world by storm. However when four billion dollars in missing funds is lost on the stock exchange and she becomes broke and flees to her friends in London. She hadn’t realised when she was rich that she was cushioned against so many minor unpleasantries. In order to survive she sells her clothes and jewellery and rents a small shabby apartment and works as a waitress. She then meets a guy called Marcus, who wants to do a documentary on the rich and poor divide and gives her a place to stay as long as he can interview her.
How both women learn to cope with their new change in circumstances is remarkable and keeps the reader hooked through a number of dramatic twist and turns by these two very likable heroines that are about to discover a shocking revelation that will change their entire existence. Ellie Campbell has created a good solid plot that’s original with adorable characters’ and I would definitely recommend this book to all readers of contemporary romance.

Book Review: Barry Goupe In the Midst of Lies By Sean P. McClure

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PCTZN6A?redirect=true&ref_=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_0
16-year-old Barry Groupe is our main protagonist in this action packed young adult novel. He has just moved to a new town with his parents as they have just got new jobs as janitors at a thriving steel mill. Barry and his parents have an unfortunate life plagued by poverty, where each day is a battle to put food on the table and quite often they all have to go without. Shortly after his move Barry soon becomes the object of bullying from other students who want to humiliate him for being the poor little new boy in school. Barry hates his name, hates his new school and most of all hates that he is too meek to do anything about it to try to make the bullies stop and cannot understand why Evan Victor Edwards, the most popular and richest guy in school comes to his rescue and tries to befriend him by inviting him to hang out with his gang. Barry struggles to get his head around the motive behind Evans friendship and soon suspects there are more sinister motives as Evan is arrested along with his father for suspected computer hacking and selling classified information on to another country. In turn Barry feels compromised by the turn of events and questions his motives for helping Evan. Who is he to prove the Evans innocence? Why does he even care? But it doesn’t deter him from making his own enquiries all of which lead to a series of events where Barry must run from the law and put his own life in jeopardy to expose the shocking truth.
Sean P. McClure has created a genuine heroine with Barry Groupe. In the opening chapters the reader is introduced to a very shy and meek boy who tries to make some sense of the cruel world around him without any faith in God. As Barry grows spiritually while struggling through many trials and tribulations, it becomes clear that his faith grows much stronger towards the end of the story. Many readers will be able to relate to this young protagonist as many of his struggles and weaknesses are very similar to their own. I saw parallels in my life and childhood that I could draw on and relate to easily, it’s almost like you could feel all that Barry felt. All of which leads me to conclude that the author is a master worthy of his craft and I really look forward to reading more of his work and would definitely recommend this book to all YA fans and Christians.

Book Review: The Cage Legacy By Nicholas Conley

The Cage LegacyBy Nicholas Conley 17-year-old Ethan Cage is the main protagonist in this incredibly well constructed thriller. He was just 10 years old when his life changed forever after discovering his charming father, known as “The Mutilator” is found guilty of 18 unknown homicides in his hometown of Aton City, Marine. Not long after his father’s arrest Ethan discovers his dad’s journal in a special compartment in his dad’s tool box that the police had missed it in their first sweep along with other sentimental items. Ethan can’t simply understand why his father would commit such horrible atrocities and inflict so much pain and suffering on his victims and spends the next seven years of his teenage life in turmoil trying to figure out who he really is and if he is in danger of inheriting any of his father’s evil tendencies. On his journey of self-discovery a number of unforeseen events take place in which he has no control over as his father escapes from prison while mutilating two security guards in the process after re-wiring the entire prison system. Just as Ethan comes close to escaping his past, inches away from forging a new future with the girl of his dreams and really becoming someone, his father sends his life in to turmoil once again by sending him letters in cryptic form to let Ethan know of his next kill. Should Ethan go to the police? Or will he take the law in to his own hands and hunt down his father?
The Cage Legacy is an affecting story of a teenager’s battle to discover who he really is. Nicholas Conley expertly ratchets up the suspense until the tension is almost at breaking point in this fast paced psycho-thriller that’s really hard to put down.

A taunt, well-written race against the clock thriller that is impossible to put down!

Strange PerceptionsBy Anthony Avina Strange Perceptions opens masterfully with the introduction of Lily Roberts – the novel’s protagonist – as she is celebrating her 24th birthday with her best friend Wesley in a Los Angeles restaurant. Half an hour later as they both leave the restaurant they spot a strikingly handsome man. The handsome stranger smiles at Lily and nods as he walks past her. Lily allows herself one last look before she turns around and collides with a scary looking living giant, unaware that all their paths will meet again in a matter of hours. Lily is about to suffer a terrifying ordeal at the hands of a brutal serial-killer who will stop at nothing to add her to his collection of victims. In her fight for survival Lily is about to learn a valuable lesson that will teach her never to stereotype anyone by their looks ever again, that’s providing she manages to stay alive long enough to tell her tale.
I managed to devour all the 85 pages in just one sitting and enjoyed every minute of it. Anthony Avina skilfully blends elements of horror, suspense and mystery while keeping the story running at a fast pace as the unfolding situation slowly materializes – it’s taunt, well-written race against the clock thriller that is impossible to put down. Book Review: Quiznot By Russell Stoll

QuiznotBy Russell Stoll
Just how bad can a kid’s life get? When 13-year-old Timothy Star discovers his dad is running a campaign to be mayor of New York City and planning to marry a woman called Jessie while his mother is locked away in a mental institution with a severe neurological condition that he is in fear of inheriting. He also has a chance encounter with a beautiful teenage girl, only to discover that since the strange concurrence he has developed some freaky powers triggered by anger that results in his suspension from Van Dorn High School after he sets a girls hair on fire, burns down one of the science labs and tampers with the stands in the Gym that lead to many students being injured. Although Timothy has no recollection of the events, he does experience nausea and the strange smell of cleaning fluid before each attack. Timothy is given the option of either going to jail or a special school called Smithson and reluctantly decides the latter of the two options as his father’s lawyer and Dr Thorn convince him that the school will help him to control his new freaky powers. Timothy soon discovers all is not what it seems at Smithson and many of the students are low-grade junkies, as they are prescribed pills by Dr Thorn to keep them all mellowed out. When Timothy hears that the school is built over tunnels of an old missile base, he goes on a mission to explore the base and finds much to his surprise it is still in use and hosts pathways to galaxies of other worlds beyond earth that he had no clue existed. As Timothy tries to unravel the mystery of what really goes on in the missile base, strange things start to happen, a pupil gets bitten by a strange creature, another pupil gets attacked by a throwing star and the detective who is called in to investigate gets killed in a car crash. Timothy does his best to try to piece all the unusual events together, but nothing prepares him for the next set of events where he has to fight for his survival against alien monsters and other creatures he has never seen before, unaware of a powerful being called a Quiznot that plans to rise on planet earth and take control of it. Will Timothy’s new powers be enough to save his life and if so at what cost? Or will his new powers shape his future in a way he never envisaged?
What a wonderfully crafted story! I was pretty much hooked from the start and look forward to reading more books in this planned trilogy. Russell Stoll has successfully created a thrilling young adult/sci-fi/fantasy book with a likable heroine that the reader can get behind and root for as he is strong, brave and loyal. The only disappointment I had is that I must wait to hear more of Timothy’s adventures and can’t wait to see what they entail. I expect an exciting epic to be awaiting this heroine.
