The novel is set in Granada, Nicaragua, and follows main protagonist, Luke Canton.  Luke is half way through his life with no income, a few friends and finds himself once again starting over in a foreign country.  After 12 years of study and a PHD in Transformative Studies, Luke sets out on a mission to let people know that they have been mislead and he wants to empower them to understand that they have the power to change their world through the movement of nonviolent conflict for global transformation.  However, his unique offering to the world to promote human sovereignty doesn’t go as planned as he encounters an unexpected romance that will challenge him in ways he never thought possible and perhaps encourage him to find his greatest purpose in life.
The Boetie Legacy and a World in Peril is a thought-provoking book that deals with difficult moral issues, global issues and exposes the misinformation being used to wield the public.  This inspiring book gives people hope and courage to change their world and will equip readers with a better understanding of what nonviolent conflict is and how it can be used in the future to counter oppression.

Detective Inspector Jake Flannagan, the main protagonist, works for The Metropolitan Police Service - Anti-Terrorist Branch. The story starts sixteen months earlier to the 7/7 bombings where Jake uses an old woman’s house for cover to spy on a group of al-Qaeda operatives in West Yorkshire (Operation Crevice).  Sixteen months later he follows the same group back to Leeds, convinced these men are planning something big, unaware his unofficial investigation results in injury and a rollicking from his bosses.  Jake soon learns while he is in hospital that there are four separate explosions, three tube trains and a bus in London and he is asked to set up ´Operation Theseus´ in West Yorkshire to find out who helped the bombers commit the crimes.   ´Operation Theseus´ forces Jake and his team into a number of covert missions, arrests, examining phone data, the discovery of peroxide-based explosives, kidnap and a bomb factory.  Still, Jake is under immense pressure for results in a case that provides more questions than answers and that all the work Jake and his team have conducted over the weeks and months will not prepare them for the most shocking deception of all time.
The Theseus Paradox is a stunning début novel, intelligent and fluently written with an exciting plot.  I simply couldn’t put it down in fear I would miss something crucial.  I was pretty much blown away with the highly unpredictable ending and I am still trying to absorb it, as it’s the last thing I expected. Well done, Mr Videcette for giving us a life-like hero, who has flaws in his personal life that most readers will be able to connect and identify with. I sincerely hope this is not the last we have heard of DI Jake Flannagan.

Thomas Senlin and his new bride, Marya, set off on a honeymoon to the tower of Babel.  Senlin had saved and planned for this journey his entire career as a headmaster, drawn to the tower through the promises of an infamous guidebook.  Climbing the tower of Babel would be his greatest ambition.  However, when Marya suddenly goes missing it triggers of a number of unlikely events where Senlin’s world turns into turmoil.  His quest to find his wife begins by searching the many streets, tents and restaurants, where he meets several men who may be able to help him, only to find out these people are not as honest as they seem and he must make the journey alone.  After several days of searching for Marya, he must start from the bottom of the tower and work his way up.  He meets many friends and enemies along the way in a new world where the rules are different and he must survive a number of fatalities to survive.    I found the writing to be beautifully crafted with many remarkable, imaginative and breathtaking scenes. Bancroft combines a gripping story with strong characterizations while maintaining an adventurous plot with outlandishly secondary characters ‘and a mild-mannered hero who is forced to step up his game.  I look forward to the second instalment.

With the odds stacked against him and fierce competition from three of the top investigators, Dane must fight against the clock to bring the perpetrator, or perpetrators to justice in a game where the stakes are high and several corrupt organizations, who want to rule Gold Coast, as well as the white and black capes fighting each other across the planet to eliminate one another.  But as the body count rises, and a number of red herrings cause Dane to become implicated and framed as a suspect, he must fight to save his salvation, as well as serve the justice that’s needed to save a city that’s on the brink of civil war.  The biggest question is will Danes invulnerability and super strength be enough to conquer three most powerful people in the world?
Dane Curse is a wonderfully crafted story, with colorful characters, an action packed plot that’s loaded with many unpredictable twists-and-turns. I was pretty much hooked from the start and look forward to reading more books in this planned series. I expect an exciting epic to be awaiting this credible hero.

Lacy Dawn, the main protagonist is an eleven year old girl living in poverty with her abusive father and depressed mother in the Appalachian Mountains. Lacy has an entire wood full of tree friends, a dead best friend, and an android boyfriend called, DotCom, who has a spaceship hidden in a mountain. Lacy desperately wants to fix her family and insists that DotCom must help her by plugging her parents unknowingly into a computer that she hopes will fix them.  DotCom agrees on the condition that Lacy Dawn must save the Universe in exchange for the designation of Earth as a planet. Lacy agrees, unaware at first that it’s her destiny and that her personal evolution has been monitored for generations for the sole purpose on when she will be ready to sign the contract.
Eggleton successfully combines and exposes a number of disturbing issues such as child abuse, puberty, human misery and poverty from the mind of young heroine that is yearning to escape the horrors of her everyday life. Rarity from the Hollow is detailed, dark and beautifully written by a competent writer who injects plenty of satire, sci-fi and fantasy elements into a work of thought-provoking and meaningful adult/fantasy fiction at its very best.

Book Review: Into the Americas (A novel based on a true story) By Lance & James Morcan

In the opening chapter the reader is introduced to the main protagonist, John Jewitt, an apprentice blacksmith, who dreams of travelling abroad on one of the great brigs that dock in Kingston upon Hull. John’s dreams soon come true when Captain Salter of the Boston witnesses John’s smithy skills first hand and sees an opportunity for John to work in the ships armoury. Unknown to John a life of enslavement and captivity awaits him along with another crew member (Thompson) by the fierce Mowachaht tribe in the Pacific Northwest.  John and Thompson are taken captive by Maquina (Chief of the Mowachahts) as the Mowachaht tribe kill all the crew members of the Boston. John witnesses the decapitated heads of 25 of his crew mates lined up and wonders if he and Thompson will end up dying in the same fashion, until he learns the only reason Maquina keeps them both alive is that their trademark working skills are considered most valuable to the tribes future trading. John learns the Mowachahts are fierce warriors capable of the most barbaric forms of savagery, yet on the other hand they are proud noble people that can be capable of great kindness.  Maquina soon forces John to marry a beautiful maiden (Eu-Stochee) who in turn tries to bind John to her savaged land forever, but John soon fears that he will never see a civilized country again and thoughts of escape are still ripe on his and Thompsons mind even after several barbaric beatings and escape attempts backfire. 
Will John and Thompson ever find a way out to freedom? And if so, at what cost? Or will they perish in their desperate attempts, as the odds are greatly stacked against them?

“Reading John K. Addis was like reading an eighties horror movie.  It’s fast paced, macabre and full of gritty atmospheric settings, along with a relentlessly chilling plot from an author who’s mastered the genre!” 

The story begins when Sam Spicer, the main protagonist, becomes the legal owner of the long-abandoned Michigan Central Railway Station in Eaton Rapids, with big dreams of turning it into a hot new martini bar.  However, Sam’s plans come to a sudden halt when he and his friends discover a secret twelve-floor Victorian hotel that’s situated directly underneath the station. In their curious attempts to explore the hotel, they soon discover that it is free from dust and that the old Victorian elevator is fully functional.  Upon further inspection, they soon realise that there were once guests over a century ago that showed signs of leaving in frenzied panic.  After further unusual, mysterious and gruesome discoveries they decide to go in search for answers to find out what happened to the original guests and why the hotel became abandoned, only to discover that they are all being pursued by a creäture with incredible powers, who could trick them, make them see things from their deepest memories to try and prevent them from escaping his abandoned underground world.

The story does shift back in time to Jonathon Wesley, an Archaeologist who gets an exclusive invite to the grand opening of The Eaton, in exchange for his examination and opinion of the owner’s underground discovery.  Jonathon in turn goes on to study and document the petroglyphs with caution as some unforeseen and incredible events soon unfold, that he is convinced are connected to the petroglyphs that he feels depict a tangible threat.  Jonathon’s unique back story alone equips the reader with most of the knowledge and clues that Sam and his friends need to escape the relentless beast of another world that has clearly massacred dozens of people before them.  The biggest question is will Sam and his friends be able to find the answers from the past before it’s too late, and if so will it help them in conquering the beast? Or will their attempts fail and lead to their own demise?  
What a fantastic book.  It’s not often I find myself so absorbed in a book that grabs my attention from the onset up until the last page.  I literally couldn’t put it down in fear I would miss something about these wonderfully, yet flawed characters’ that may help them in their impossible mission to discover the truth.  Congratulations’ Mr John K. Addis you have just gained a life-long fan.  I look forward to reading more of your work in the future.

5 Star Book Review: The Revelation Room By Mark Tilbury

The story opens with a disturbing telephone call to Ben from his father who has just been captured by members of a religious cult, who go by the name of, ´The Sons and daughters of Salvation´ Ben’s father was initially hired to investigate the disappearance of a young woman by the name of Emily, as her parents are in desperate need for answers on their missing daughters whereabouts. However, when Ben’s father is captured against his will and close to death, Ben is forced on a deadly mission to step in to try and find his father ASAP, by re-tracing the missing girls last known steps. Ben recruits his best friend, Maddie to help him on his mission, as he is convinced he is too mild and meek to do it alone and is petrified with the fact that the only way to find his father and the missing girl is to go undercover and join the cult.  In order to join the cult Ben and Maddie have to gain Marcuse’s (A cult member) trust.   They make up good cover stories, hoping they will be accepted.  Unaware and unprepared that life as they know it will become a fading memory and their chances of survival on this remote farm, where the chain of command is to worship an evil sociopath are inevitably stacked against them.  They are soon forced to take refuge in a gruesome chamber of horrors (The Revelation Room) which hosts some terrifying discoveries and sinister secrets that may help them or hinder them on their mission to escape as the body count increases and time is running out.
Despite the conflicts, dangers and twists in the story the characters’ are my most favourite part of the novel as they are all uniquely flawed because they all struggle with their own issues and find a way to deal with all the changes around them. One example of this is with the main protagonist, Ben, who lacks self-confidence and is haunted by his childhood accident at the hands of bullies, as he is nicknamed, ´Stutter-Buck´
Tilbury has taken a young insecure man and slowly transformed him into a brave hero that the reader can get behind and root for and I look forward to reading more of Ben’s adventures in the near future. Well done Mr Tilbury for giving us a hero both gritty and moving, and a clever psychological plot that works well to the dramatic end.
