How to Write an Amazon Review!

In honor of Creators Appreciation Day, I thought I’d show how simple it is to write a review on Amazon. It can take just a few minutes and a review is a wonderful way to help an indy author that you love.

Creators Appreciation Day!

creatorsappreciationda2y

Chip Beauvais, a twitter friend of mine, started something called “Creators Appreciation Day.” It’s the first weekend in March and participate you are supposed to pick three things you enjoy, songs, podcasts, books, movies, apps, recipes, etc… and write a review for them on Amazon, iTunes, youtube, boardgame geek, Goodreads or on whatever site is appropriate. Then you are supposed to share your review with your friends and on social media, being sure to tag the creator.

It’s important to know that its not about money or sales. Thats why the emphasis of Creators Appreciation Day is on the review. For indy creators, reviews are way more important than sales. Reviews make a book, podcast, and just about anything on the internet appear viable. So leaving reviews for creators is one of the best things you can do to show your support.

If you want to participate in Creators Appreciation Day, and you totally should. The are the official rules are posted below.

Check out Creators Appreciation Day!

https://creatorappreciationday.wordpress.com/

On the first weekend in March 2016…

Pick three things you enjoy that were created by someone (songs, podcast, game, movie, app, recipe, etc.)
Let the creator know how much you enjoy that thing (rate it on Spotify, write a review on iTunes, become a fan on BoardGameGeek.com, write a YouTube comment, rate it in the app store, tweet to the creator #CreatorAppreciationDay , become a facebook fan, write a review for Amazon, comment on their kickstarter campaign, etc.)
Share with your friends either in person (schedule a Show and Tell party where you take turns sharing your favorite music, or playing your favorite game) or on social media.
Discover new creators that your friends recommend.

Rules (ok, guidelines):

This is not about money. It’s great to financially support your favorite creators via crowdfunding, patreon, buying products, etc. But this is about expressing appreciation.
Focus on living creators. Let’s appreciate people while they are around to enjoy it.

Lafayette Cemetery!

IMG_5696

Last week we were in New Orleans and since we aren’t bar-types we visited lots of stuff outside of The French Quarter. One of the coolest things we saw was Lafayette Cemetery!

The cemetery was built in the early 1800’s and is still active today. It’s also the most filmed-in cemetery in New Orleans. Shows and movies shot there include Interview with a Vampire, The Originals, Double Jeopardy, the music video for New Kids on the Block’s “Right Stuff,” and a bunch of other stuff.

The texture of the graves, the colors of the different stones and the overall vibe of the place was amazing. It’s an utter maze to walk through and although creepy there was a certain amount of beauty at the same time. If you are ever in New Orleans I highly suggest visiting Lafayette Cemetery No. 1.

Kitty Paw Preview!

IMG_4845-Edit

Kitty Paw is one of the newest games from Renegade Games. It’s a fast past dexterity game where players have to snatch cats from a middle pile and stack them to match designs on a card.

IMG_4724

Where Kitty Paw truly shines, besides the spatial-reasoning, is that it requires players to meow, high five, and even yell “Kitty Paw!” It’s so silly and yet so much fun.

Caterpillars & Butterflies!

catapillar4

Last spring, Lisa and I put together a butterfly garden. We saw some swallowtails, some rice papers, some blue waves, and a bunch of others. However we had tons and tons of monarchs who not only visited the flowers but laid eggs.

catapillarj

We’ve had monarch caterpillars on our milkweed plants for over a year and the most we had at once was seventeen in December. The caterpillars seem to hangout for like ten days to two weeks. Then they go and find a safe place, form a “J” shape and within a few days they form into a chrysalis.

catapillar

In the summer it seems to take about two to three weeks for a chrysalis to hatch. You can tell a chrysalis is about to hatch because it looses its green color and turns black and orange. Now that its winter the chrysalises take five to six weeks.

catapillare2

When ready a butterfly emerges. It happens pretty darn fast, within a few minutes, but then it takes two to three hours for the caterpillar to unfurl their wings and let them dry.

catapillar3

It’s been a delight having the caterpillars and butterflies around this past year and pretty darn cool that they are still here even though its winter!
