Ghosting

Washington, DC Metro Station on a cold January morning in 2007. The man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time approx. 2 thousand people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After 3 minutes a middle aged man noticed there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds and then hurried to meet his schedule.
4 minutes later:The violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.
6 minutes:A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.
10 minutes:A 3-year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children.. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly..
45 minutes:The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.
1 hour:He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.
No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

Some Basic Architecture of Music

Famed violinist Jascha Heifetz was known for his incredible technical precision, which made him the perfect subject for a series of light paintings by the photographer Gjon Mili.
For his series with Heifetz, Mili attached a light to the violinist's bow and had him play in Mili's darkened studio, letting the camera record the bow's movement through a variety of pieces and styles. –via i09

Praise for SOUL'D OUT
"I am in awe of the complexity of the characterization and plotting in this story. All threads lead out and, eventually, all lead back in. We see varied characters at stages in their lives and development in great detail. We know why luxury is important to Tammy, why God is important to Elie, why Mezziah is motivated to success and not overly bothered with ethics. There are so many examples that I could give potential readers but all of them feel spoilerish because this is an author where just about everything is relative to the advancing story-line There are few wasted scenes......In a lot of cases, the narrative is disturbingly graphic. The opening scenes involve a party highlighting the worst of Hollywood excess. Sex and drug use is graphic and perhaps a little shocking but not gratuitous... ...Soul’d Out is not for the faint of heart. If you don’t mind graphic descriptions and grit, this is a great story. Well written and expertly crafted...Normally I would suggest it for fans of a certain author but if this novel has a peer, I haven’t read it..." Link to Full Rabid Readers Review

Dark Source Material
German documentary focusing on three cases involving pedophile networks similar to the Casa Pia case in Portugal, The Franklin affair in the USA and the Zandvoort affair in the Netherlands. All of these cases have involved serious allegations of cover-ups, with the investigations deteriorating into nothing and "lost files."
Interestingly, all of these networks point to funding and involvement by the upper echelons of society. The amount of money that is involved worldwide in child abuse films is estimated at 300 bilion euros. In Germany alone it's 1 billion. People pay 25,000 to a million euros for these films.
"I have to admit I couldn't imagine something that bad happening to my own son. I have always ignored the problem of pedophilia like most people do. I think you have to experience it firsthand before you can understand what it is."
"What was very disconcerting was Robert told me about evenings at his father's with dressed-up grownups with robes and masks. He mentioned animal and child sacrifices and explained a lot of things through gestures. He said they made the children bleed until they died and mentioned cameras present."
Noemi's father revealed his big secret to her: an underground cellar complex where he kept children in cages. "The children who were locked in these cages wouldn't stay alive for long. They were kept alive to torture and rape them. Then the children were murdered. These children were all alone down there. There was no way to escape. Because they were beaten black and blue, constantly raped, and kept drugged. Or they were already dead."
"I went in. The curtains were closed. It was dark. They told me to sit down, so I sat at a table. There was a table the priests were standing at. They were wearing dark red robes, almost black. They were chanting around the table. There was something covered in cloth, the same color as their robes. They took it to the table. It was a child. My grandfather took it in his arms. My brother Pierre was standing next to him. My grandfather then showed my brother how to kill the child. Then he did. Obviously the child started screaming. Then they said some prayers and sent us out. After 45 minutes or an hour, I don't remember exactly, they came out themselves. The ceremonies would always end the same way - after it there was a feast on the terrace. There were two large plates with meat. I now know this was human meat."
"These aren't just amateurs making videos or some isolated lunatics kidnapping children and killing them to satisfy their own perverted desires. Rather it is a professionally organized network that works for a vast pedophile market, with a great supply of videos, child pornographic photos and snuff movies. My father belonged to this network."

Excerpt
In his autobiography The Mos' High Mezziah recounts his first meeting with William "Juvenill" Mitchell at Calvary Records:
It was one of the wildest experiences of my life. This young white dude in a t-shirt and jeans comes right up to me in my office like he knew me or some shit. Straight at me, total eye contact, not saying nothing. At first I thought, did I need to reach for my piece, who is this nigga? People don’t just roll up on me, especially in my own damn building — I have layers of screens between me and the front door — I’m thinking, who do I need to fire for this shit? But a voice in my head said very clearly that I needed to listen to him.
Then he just handed me his disc and sat down on one of my couches, waiting for me to play it, bold as fuck. William has this way about him that you understand once you listen to his music; I call him Good Will Hunting, he don’t need to front. Let me tell you, no one else could do what he did because his shit is that real. I tell people the President of this country don’t hold himself like William did that day, and the POTUS is a pretty relaxed nigga.
So I listened to his demo right there – it was practically an album. Played the whole damn thing, had it on my system and people were sticking their heads in my office saying “Yo, who dat?” Pretty soon my office was filled with people nodding their heads, concentrating on his lyrics and getting hyped. The more noise they made, the more people came in – secretaries and everything – we never heard an MC spit like that before. He was so clever and deep — I can’t describe what it was like hearing Juvenill for the first time, but I know I’ll never forget it. No one does. It was crazy, people would hear a lyric and hold their heads shouting “I don’t believe that!” and “Did you hear what he just did?!” And here’s William, sitting quietly on the couch in the middle of all this, head down, not saying a word. When it was over and everyone was like “Who the fuck was that?!” you could’ve heard a pin drop when I pointed to William. “DIS NIGGA?” people said. I knew I had to lock William down before anyone else tried to steal him.

The Liar
"[Robert Johnson's songs] are the bedrock upon which modern blues and rock and roll are built. He stands at the crossroads of American music much as a popular folk legend has it, he once stood at a Mississippi crossroads and sold his soul to the Devil in exchange for guitar playing powers."
– Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Blues master and Johnson's mentor, Son House, said of him before Johnson's transformation:
"He'd sit at our feet and play during the break and such another racket you never heard." Son House said Johnson made the audiences "mad" with his racket, and that he was a talentless and irritating guitar player.
"But he'd follow me and Willie around on Saturday night, me and Willie Brown, and every time we stopped to rest and set a guitar over on the corner or somehing to go out and catch some air, you know, [he'd] get the guitar and be trying to play it and be just noisin' the people. And the folks they would come out and say, 'Why don't you all, some ya all, go in there and make that boy put that thing down. He's runnin' us crazy.' Finally he left and ran off from his father and mother and he went over in Arkansas someplace, gone about six to eight months."
It is said that during this time he made his pact with Satan at the crossroads of Highways 49 and 61 in Clarksdale Mississippi. Many musicians who knew him are on record saying he told them this.
Son House said Johnson came back completely transformed. "So then he came back. When he came back, me and Willie Brown was playing and he walked in. He said 'Can I hit a lick or two.' I said now don't come back with that Robert, I said, you know that people don't all want to hear that racket. He said, 'Let them say what they want to say, I want you to see what I learned.'"
"When he finished all our mouths were standing open. He sold his soul to the Devil to play like that."
Incredibly, Johnson went from being a guitarist who couldn't play a lick in a matter of months to a guitarist who didn't even have to practice, who – like a medium – could channel music from the spirit world.
Fellow musician Johnny Shines said, "I never seen him have to practice, anything like that. Never had to sit down and write a song, he already knew it."
Me and the Devil Blues by Robert Johnson
Early this mornin'
when you knocked upon my door
And I said "Hello Satan, I believe it's time to go."
Me and the Devil was walking side by side.
Me and the Devil ooh...was walkin' side by side
and I'm goin' to beat my woman until I get satisfied.
Hell Hound on My Trail by Robert Johnson
I got to keep movin'
I got to keep movin'
and the day keeps on worryin' me.
It's a hell hound on my trail
it's a hell hound on my trail
it's a hell hound on my trail.

There's Nothing New Under the Sun
"It’s hard to imagine that a whole generation chain-smoked cigarettes without having any idea how harmful they are, but the same thing is happening today with online pornography." —Brian McDougal, Author of "Porned Out"
Children as young as 11 are being given “unrealistic expectations” of sex after being exposed to Internet pornography, according to research in Britain.Academics warned that it was “common practice” for schoolchildren to become desensitized to sexual images after accessing hardcore images at an early age. Some young people are becoming “hooked” on Internet pornography before they become sexually active, leading to problems in later life, it was disclosed.Phippen said: “It’s common practice for kids today to watch Internet porn. One thing that clearly came out of it was issues around desensitization.“Some people are getting hooked on the porn and then are not able to perform in the real world. It can give people unrealistic expectations. It can be very damaging for some people.”The research surveyed 1,000 young people, with some saying they first watched pornography “aged 11 or 12.”One secondary school pupil, aged 14, told researchers he “couldn’t believe there was anyone in his year who hadn’t seen it.”Phippen added: “If this is how you first come across this sort of thing, that is a concern. If you have someone accessing hardcore porn from the age of 12, what’s that going to do to them?”He said the government and schools needed to realize that pornography was not just for “deviant” youngsters, adding that issues had to be tackled in the classroom.“The information gathered will now be used to look at how our education system addresses this issue in schools,” he said.“Pupils have told me that this sort of stuff isn’t covered in their sex education lessons and they want it to be.“But how do members of staff go about something that is this difficult to approach? That’s something that can hopefully be tackled in the future.”The research found that a third of people aged 16 to 24 found sex with partners difficult because of what they had seen online.Sharon Chapman, from Relate, one of the largest providers of counselling for children, said that pornography distorted a person’s view of what a “normal sex life could and should be like.”– Calgary Herald
