By Readers' Request: List of Characters, Plus Questions
Recently a number of readers have requested a list of characters, and perhaps in the second edition of the book that list will be included. But for now, let me redirect you to this post.
It's been a pleasure to answer emails from readers – your interest in the novel and the fact you took time to write is flattering. I had no idea how SOUL'D OUT would be received, and it's been wonderful to hear people have been affected by it in the way I hoped. Most writers have a blindness when it comes to their work. At about a third of the way through the manuscript I showed it to my editor, Gay Walley, unsure whether to continue. It was because of her encouragement that I did. So hearing from readers is very nice, whether through personal emails or reviews online - no matter what they say. Getting another view on the material illuminates one useful thing or another, even if it's to show the kind of reader who doesn't like my writing. Frankly I would be more concerned if there wasn't at least a few people who hated SOUL'D OUT.
So thank you for your kind words and interest. I'm excited to post about the progress of the film adaptation, but it's still a little too early to write about the details. I'll just say so far everything is going better than dreamed possible, mainly because of the the excellent people supporting the project.
Back to reader emails. Most of the questions I've been getting deal with details, symbolism and typology in the story, and I haven't found a way to address the common questions without giving away spoilers, so these emails are answered personally, rather than here on the blog. I can be reached through the book's website. I try to respond as promptly as possible.
It has been a joy to shine a little authorial light on readers' treasure hunting. I enjoy stories that are rich in metaphorical and symbolic language, that make me dig, and I wanted to create a narrative that would yield more of itself on subsequent readings. Maybe I should be embarrassed to say I tend to re-read my favorite books over new ones because I still get something out of them – most of them since high school and almost to the point of memorization. Maybe the story stays the same and it's me as a lens who has changed.
Either way, my reading list appears rather short and static, though not to my mind. The Essential Writings of Ralph Waldo Emerson, A Confederacy of Dunces, and The King James Bible represent a large part of my library. I remember finishing Dunces for the first time and immediately starting it again. I skipped the forward by Percy Walker both times, and it wasn't until I came up for air after the second reading that I began to read Walker's message. My intention was to find more books to consume by John Kennedy Toole, and I sat on the bus and cried right there when I read he had killed himself in his thirties because he thought he failed as a writer. Of course, that book went on to win the Pulitzer Prize the year it was posthumously published in the 1960's.
Please keep your notes coming.
My best,
G.E. Butler

Vigilant Citizen on MK ULTRA Programming Breakdowns
The always excellent Vigilant Citizen examines the case of Amanda Bynes. He writes:
"Bynes began her acting career at the age of ten and quickly obtained her own show at Nickelodeon. From there, she followed the unfortunate pattern of going from a star admired by children to a “barely-legal” sex bomb to then turn into a bizarre tabloid celebrity with erratic behavior. Is that pattern familiar? Look at the paths taken by other products of Hollywood Mind Control such as Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan and see if you see similarities."
Read the entire article here:VC's Article on Amanda Bynes

We are shown Bynes with the key symbol of Monarch Mind Control and MK Ultra. It is a symbolically rich image and one that perfectly mirrors the process of the creation of a mind control slave.
From an earlier post:
"In order for the change from a caterpillar to a butterfly to take place within the pupa, the caterpillar begins releasing enzymes that literally digest nearly all of its own body. What’s left inside the chrysalis is mostly just a nutrient rich soup from which the butterfly will begin to form...
Once the process is complete, nearly every part of the dissolved caterpillar’s body [is replaced] with the exception of...memory storing neurons. Although how these survive and are incorporated into the new, more complex butterfly brain is not a process science understands…"

A mind control slave's mind is fractured through severe trauma, causing it to "honeycomb" so that the core personality of the victim, as well as their alters, are compartmentalized. These personalities are isolated from each other and emerge depending on which situation the victim is in and needs to get through. The most common situation that is openly discussed is performers talking about their stage personas "taking over."
In the case of a breakdown in programming - which typically occurs when the victim is in their late twenties/early thirties - the walls separating the core personality and alters shatter, resulting in behavior that is often attributed to drug abuse. The victims are then sent to "rehab."
When a celebrity victim cannot be reeled back in from their break, they are sacrificed or written off as insane or incorrigible addicts and then forgotten by the industry and world that used them.
Read this superb article about Whitney Houston, Clive Davis, and Brandy
Unfortunately, we may be seeing an instance of predictive programming in the case of Amanda Bynes. Her publicist released a statement:
"I had a mental image of her in a bathtub, wanting to hurt herself. Then I saw a photo of her in her bathroom that she’d posted on Twitter."
Beyonce, who refers to herself as a queen bee of her own beehive, whether to invoke NWO and sex cult symbolism, honeycombs, or both, displayed the key symbols associated with MK Ultra in her recent Pepsi commercial, aptly titled "Mirrors." Here we have the realistically represented alters and shattered mirrors representing the fracturing of the mind.
Both the Bynes' Got Milk and Beyonce Pepsi ads serve the same end: to normalize and further indoctrinate the masses into the language of mind control.

Real Life Coincidences: Music from the Novel
I'm sorry to say that today the world has a new song strikingly similar to one from the novel.
"I Just Wanna" via DListed.com
SOUL'D OUT was written to be a realistic depiction of culture and the music industry – something critics and readers agree has been done.
In the novel, the most outrageous performer has a hit song called "I Wanna F***." The song is uncensored on the radio and when it's written about in the media.
A sample of the lyrics:
"Don't care how I get off
Look out world, I wanna f***"
In writing this story, I attempted to avoid dating the material, and instead projected what I thought we could be expecting from the music industry in the near to distant future.
I'm shocked but not surprised something I thought would take a few years to come onto the scene has arrived.

Question From a Reader: Who's in the Dream Cast for the Film?
Now that the film version of SOUL'D OUT seems imminent, the rather fun conversation about which actors could play the roles the best is happening not only with my friends, but actual producers and agents.
Not to give too much away, but when a novel like SOUL'D OUT gets adapted to a screenplay, it has to be stripped down a great deal. In this case, almost five hundred pages and approximately seventy-five characters had to squeeze into a hundred twenty pages. Characters and plotlines had to be edited out of the film version to make it work.
These are the actors I personally like - with the caveat that I'm sure whomever ends up in the roles will be wonderful. I'm not a casting agent or someone plugged in with the up-and-comers, which is always exciting to see - when someone comes out of nowhere and crushes a role.
The one character I couldn't think of anybody for is the key role of Devin Boaz, which I think is a juicy part and requires someone extra special.
Keke Palmer as Beatrice Ball
Angela Bassett as Tammy Ball
Deray Davis as Mezziah
Rihanna as Vanessa Card
Idris Elba as Michael Bishop
Bryan Greenberg or Eminem as William Mitchell
Catherine Zeta Jones as Mylita Crescent
Robert DeNiro as Charlie Pindar
Cissy Houston (left)orCicely Tyson (right)as Elie James
Robert Downey Junior as Thadeus Rawls
Tyler Perry as Otis Asio
Jerry Ferrara as Nic Webster
Cassie as Cybelline

Boston Bombing Facebook Page Created 2 Days Prior to Event
"Thoughts Go Out to All Involved in the Boston Explosions" is the name of the page created on April 13, 2013. The bombings took place on the 15th.

"[The runner] noticed a lot more security before the marathon, much more than he's seen than at other marathons, including bomb-sniffing dogs, spotters on the roofs, and loudspeaker announcements that it was just a training drill."
"I've been running in some of the biggest marathons in the world…I've never seen [security] like that before."

Jay-Z, Backmasking and Satanism
So don't believe everything your earlobe captures; It's mostly backwards
Unless it happens to be as accurate as me
And everything said in song you happen to see
Then, actually, believe half of what you see
None of what you hear, even if it's spat by me
--"Ignorant Shit" by Jay-Z
Jay-Z's Grey Album has a musical interlude. Below are the messages that have been engineered into the song and are audible when the song is played backwards. There are no vocal tracks on the song. Clearly, they were planted there on purpose.
Murder, Murder Jesus
Six Six Six
I can introduce you to evil
Leave Niggas on death's door
Catholics so I gotta murder them

"Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law." - Aleister Crowley, famous Satanist, self-proclaimed “Wickedest Man in the World” and the “Great Beast 666.”
“I bind my blood in Satan,
All that lieth betwixt my hands
To thee, the Beast, and thy control,
I pledge me; body, mind and soul.”
~ Aleister Crowley (Satanic Extracts)
“I swear to work my Work abhorred,
Careless of all but one reward,
The pleasure of the Devil our Lord.”
~ Aleister Crowley (Satanic Extracts)

More Katt Williams: "Hatred is Coming Your Way"
"Some of us are against the Illuminati and we're against the Illuminati at our own detriment. When people are against the Illuminati then they get punched in the face all the time...
It's not necessary for us to stir up that hornets nest unless we intend to get stung a million times. I didn't understand that, they had to sting me a million times. I'm still not gonna join, but I respect it a little more."
"I know if your mouth is really really big and you like to tell the truth for a living and you like to air people out, hatred is coming your way. I didn't know it was going to be this type of hatred, but I'm concrete in all things because of He who strengthens me. That doesn't mean I always make the right decisions, but I'm going to stand by what I stand for. And I'm only continuing to do it because I was looking for somebody who was doing it instead of me and I just must have just missed them. At some point you have to figure out what example are you trying to be. If it's just gonna be you're gonna make it and live happily ever after and go off into the sunset then that's what that is, otherwise you're on the frontline of this battle. And those of us who understand that understand that this is a part of what comes with it."

Predictive Programming: Elysium the Film, The Haves and Have-Nots of the Future
"Predictive programming is a subtle form of psychological conditioning provided by the media to acquaint the public with planned societal changes to be implemented by our leaders. If and when these changes are put through, the public will already be familiarized with them and will accept them as natural progressions, thus lessening possible public resistance and commotion.
Things or ideas which would otherwise be seen as bizarre, vulgar, undesirable, or impossible are inserted into films in the realm of fantasy. When the viewer watches these films, his or her mind if left open to suggestion and the conditioning process begins. These same movies which are designed to program the average person can give the discerning viewer a better understanding of the workings and the plan of the world agenda." – Alan Watt
"Matt Damon and Jodie Foster are starring in the movie which depicts a future (year 2154, to be exact) in which the rich inhabit a dream world called Elysium, while the rest of humanity is desperate to leave Earth, which is ravaged by crime and poverty...The new trailer reveals a lot more about the film and really shows both the beauty of Elysium, a haven for the privileged, and the harsh reality of future Earth." – Stan Schroeder

You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit on the mount of assembly on the heights of Zaphon; I will ascend to the tops of the clouds, I will make myself like the Most High." Real Life Coincidences: Beyonce, Pepsi, and MK Ultra Images
Since the completion and publication of SOUL'D OUT, certain incredible coincidences between the events in the book and reality have come to pass and have been discussed here on the blog. This post concerns another: Beatrice Ball's endorsement for Pepsi and Beyonce's for the same.
Mirrors, particularly fractured ones, are a major symbol in MK Ultra Mind Control. Beyonce's "Mirrors" commercial says it all: she looks into a wall of mirrors and sees several alters looking back at her, with Sasha Fierce being the strongest, of course. The commercial ends with Beyonce saying "Embrace your past, but live for now" while the mirrors she stands in front of completely shatter.
Beyonce's endorsement of a soda is socially irresponsible, but that's not even the biggest problem here. The continued normalization of dark symbology relating to mass mind control is the real issue.
I expect Vigilant Citizen to do one of his brilliant essays on this commercial shortly.

The Truth May Scare You: Know The Truth Studio X
This Youtube channel has been shut down before, but keeps coming back. I highly recommend all the videos, but am posting the most recent one here. Note all of the symbols on blatant display in the various music video clips.
"We're living in a virtual reality, in a totally controlled environment. Very few people realize the extent to which we're all manipulated and controlled by unseen forces...our society is the most manipulated and controlled society in history because of the programming and conditioning we all undergo through both mass media and public education."
"We're seeing a society of not only a lot more people of lower IQ but a lot fewer people of higher IQ...in other words a dumbing down, a chemical dumbing down of society so everyone is mediocre. That leaves them dependent on government because they can't excel. People with lower IQ are totally dependent and we have this mass of people who will believe anything they're told because they can't think clearly. And very few people with high IQ and good cognitive function who can figure all this out. Which is how they want it. You can piece it together as to why they're so insistent on spending hundreds of millions in propaganda money to dumb down society."
"Music is a whole other area that employs these [mind control] techniques...all popular culture...it's not just entertainment...it's not value free - it has ideological content...presents a world view that influences people who are watching and listening...we have a disconnect thinking entertainment is harmless when it's the most important delivery system of propaganda...because it influences people without their conscious awareness, which is the ultimate in controlling people in society - to do it without them being aware of it."
