Peek at IN HIS HANDS by Adriana Anders

  The rules are simple:

Never speak to outsiders.

Never yearn for something more.

[image error]Abby Merkley has been a member of the Church of the Apocalyptic Faith since she was a child, and there’s no way out…until her darkly handsome, brooding neighbor defies the rules and takes her into the safety of his arms.

He should frighten her, but everything inside Abby thrills at Luc Stanek’s rough manners and shockingly gentle touch. He excites her, ignites her, leaves her shaken and wanting more. But evil men follow in her footsteps, and it may take more than one fierce beauty to defend her loving beast.

[image error]EXCERPT:

“Kiss me,” she whispered, full of the knowledge that this could well be the end. What if he doesn’t want this?

She watched as he reached out to graze her dress with his fingers. Just the fabric, not the body beneath, but even that was heady, different. New.

“You want this.” It wasn’t quite a question. If anything, the words came out disbelieving.

“I want you.”

That did it. Whatever it was. Like they’d busted through their shell, only it was more like a dam had blown, and the man she’d known until this moment—quiet, contained, restrained—transformed into something wild. Unleashed.

Several feet away one moment, the next they collided.

It felt like falling, inside and out, a fatalistic succumbing. She could barely contain a sob when his skin finally touched hers, his lips moved to her neck, his hands on her shoulders. One hand went to her nape, cupping, cradling, but firm as well. And his face, as it made its way from the hollow beneath her ear, up and over her jaw, her cheek, to her mouth… Gracious, the man was drinking her in, learning her, smelling her.

And she wanted to do the same to him.

By the time his lips made it to hers, she thought she’d be ready for it. She was wet between her legs like she’d never been in her life, and heavy, too heavy to move.

Only somehow, her hips were doing a dance all on their own, tilting toward him.

He stopped right before her mouth. “You want this, Abby?” His whispered words felt wrenched from his massive frame, each one a hot little brand against her face.

“I’m afraid,” she whispered in his ear.

He stilled. “Of me?”

“Goodness, no.” She almost laughed. “I’m afraid of what God’ll think.”

“Of this?” He pulled back and frowned. “A kiss?”

It might sound absurd when he said it like that, but they couldn’t all be wrong, could they? Mama and Isaiah, Hamish and the other folks?

And was this really just a kiss? That hardly seemed possible.

She couldn’t think straight with the smell of him so close. Like nothing she’d experienced, it was heady and intriguing, and all she could think was This is what a real man smells like.

“What happens, over there, if you do something sinful?”

“You’re punished.”

“By who? God or the man who leads the Church?”

Weren’t they one and the same? “Guess I’m not sure anymore.”

“We shouldn’t do this, then,” he said, running the back of his hand over her cheek and behind her ear, where his fingers sifted through her hair. “I don’t want to hurt you, Abby.” He sounded tortured. Was this the punishment—this strange, frenzied fluttering, this agony of need? “I’ve never…I’ve never been with someone like you.”

“Someone like me?”

“Innocente.” The word, his accent, the strain of his voice—all of it built and built until she could barely breathe. Her lungs were so full, she’d die if something didn’t ease the pressure.

Tell me it’s wrong, she prayed. Show me a sign.

“Just ’cause I haven’t done things doesn’t mean I haven’t thought of them.”

Girl’s Guide to Top Ten Adorable Cult Films

by Madeline Iva

It’s August! Time to make with the grabby hands before the slow, relaxed days of summer give way to the hustle of September. Grab a peach smoothie and your favorite guy, and let all your worries go while you enjoy these 10 Adorable Cult Movies — each is it’s own funky mix of whimsy and romance, sprinkled throughout with subversive feminist tropes, and SFF joy.

Here are some films that subverted the 80’s ethos.

Desperately Seeking Susan:

80’s fashion deliciousness and the essence of Madonna distilled.  She was a free-spirit, a mooch, a not-just-one-man kinda woman–the definition of a woman who didn’t draw inside the lines.  You couldn’t be her, but you sure as shit think she’s cool.[image error]Note the subtle Alice in Wonderland devices, as Susan steps through her sliding door (i.e. The Looking Glass) into a new world.[image error]

Earth Girls are Easy:

Jeff Goldblum is hot.  Okay–geek-hot, but this movie recognized that!   [image error]EGAE is a movie that rolls around in sexual objectification, even as it rejects old skool values for 3rd wave feminism and a hard core ‘whatevs” attitude.  The iconic song “I Want ‘Em Big and Stupid” was a cry from the heart back in a time when erom didn’t even exist.  When this movie came out, Jeff and Gina were married, and no one knew who Jim Carey and Damon Wayans were.  Seriously.[image error]

Clueless:

America was clueless when this film came on the scene that it was a clever remake of Jane Austen’s Emma.  (Not me! I watched it the first time thinking “Elton? Elton.  Why is that name so familiar?” [image error]And blurted out “Oh My GOD, it’s EMMA!” in the movie theatre when she got out of the car. With great styling, this story of valley-girl redemption is fluffy and fun –but also a solidly crafted movie.  R.I.P. Brittany Murphy, before you went blonde & skinny and you know, died.  Props to Alicia Silverstone for holding onto her vegan ethics in Hollywood.[image error]

The Adventures of Buckaroo Bonzai:

Peter Weller, you may teach art history now at Syracuse University, but once you were an 80’s cult legend.  Pre-Robo Cop, pre-Naked Lunch, here was a role in which you showed what a movie star you could be.  The film had a very interesting low-budget SFF style we’ve never seen before or since.  Alas, Ellen almost ruins the movie with her overwrought acting, but then again, she has to go eye to eye with an evil slug that’s going to sting her face to death, so.[image error]The classic quote from this movie shouldn’t be “Remember: where ever you go, there you are.” It should be, “Hey, hey, hey.  Don’t be mean.” The film is a cult legend, but also is everything the 80’s wasn’t about–which is why I lurv it so hard.

Then the 90’s came: sigh. We finally got to look back at the 80’s and shudder.

Romy & Michelle’s High School Adventure:

I was the Janeane Garofalo character in this movie–minus the cigarettes.  At least that’s what it felt like on the inside. (I’d still rather stick a cigarette in my eye than go to my own high school reunion.) You might be surprised that I would hail a movie which in turn celebrates Pretty Women (shudder), but this movie was groundbreaking as it planted a flag in the quivering flesh of America, advocating female friendship first.  Fromance–you never looked so good.[image error]

More recently:

Bend It Like Beckham:

Yes, you get John Rhys-Meyers.  Yes, you get a fabulous multi-cultural feminism that will carry you away, and YES, you get to cheer the idea that women can have what they want — but it doesn’t have to be the same thing for every woman.  Huzzah![image error]

Life After Beth:

You just won’t know just exactly where this movie is going.  A shout out to Matthew Gubler in his supporting role.  This is a small film about a guy’s big problems with his girlfriend–which we ultimately realize really are HIS issues…and symbolic.  Audrey Plaza stars in this film — which is reason enough to watch it in my book.[image error]

Warm Bodies:

R is Nick Hoult, and Nick Hoult is hot.  Nuff said. [image error]

Maleficent:

Oh, this film did not go where I thought it would.  It was FABULOUS! Have you seen it? You gotta check it out. How I wish this film had been around when I was a little girl.[image error]

Austenland:

The one…the only.  I’m sorry, but J.J. Fields is the *best* Darcy evah!!!!!!! I’ll just confess here: we watch this film allllllll the time.  I could quote the lines to you by now.  This is the film to watch if you’re having a sad day–it will make you feel better.  Our heroine finally decides to take charge of her narrative—you’ll want to as well, after you see this film.[image error]

Take the Lead for a Hot Summer Fling! Passing Through Is Live!

By Alexa Day

Party people! I’ve just returned to the ranch from RWA Nationals, four days of revelry in Orlando surrounded by some of my favorite authors and in the company of my favorite reader — my mom. I just got back to town yesterday, and I will probably need a few days to recover from all the fun. In the meantime, why not have a look at my new release? It’s an expanded, revised version of Passing Through, the novella I had in last year’s Hero to Obey box set. If you’re looking for some femdom-themed fun with a military hero and a dollop of workplace inappropriate, after-hours contact, this might be just the thing for you.

Take just a tiny lick here:

OMG, what? A blurb? You bet your bippie!

The summer’s brought two surprises to bar owner Gigi Dean: the former Army Ranger she hired is the perfect barback, and he pleases her in bed as much as he does at work. Gigi swore long ago never to let a man come between her and her business, so allowing herself to succumb to her intense attraction to her employee for more than one night is a definite no-no. But for how long can she resist the desire to seduce this powerful alpha male?

Right from the start, Noah Monroe told his boss that he was just passing through on the way to a more permanent job. He hasn’t told her that his hunger for her keeps him awake at night. He won’t have more than this summer with the gorgeous woman who is his perfect match. Can he coax her into his arms for a summer fling? Or will acting on instinct cost him everything he’s begun to love?

Want a handful of that? Of course you do. Get to clicking! It’s free just now if you’re in Kindle Unlimited.

And follow Lady Smut.

Heart-Clenching Male/Male Love Stories: Q&A with Kindle Alexander

Click to buy….

Kris Michaels: When Lady Smut asked me to do a series of interviews highlighting the dynamic authors of gay romance, my first thought was Kindle Alexander. If you love a well written, heart-clenching love story, this author duo is for you. I was fortunate to meet the dynamic duo of Kindle Alexander early on in my writing career. The ladies that comprise this team are fabulous people who are kind, giving, and so much fun.

Full Disclosure: my disclosure, not their book by the same name, which by the way is freaking amazing…anyway, my favorite ugly cry book, the one that had me purchasing stock in a popular tissue company, is Always, by Kindle Alexander. The book wrecked me in the best possible way. Welcome Kindle Alexander!

Kindle Alexander: Thank you for letting us be here today. Big hugs.

Kris Michaels: What people may not realize is that Kindle Alexander is the pen name for a writing duo. How did you meet?

Kindle Alexander: We were cheerleading moms. Our daughters were competitive cheerleaders. We became close friends after an accident that involved my middle daughter. My writing partner was very sweet to me at that time. I call her the sympathy whispers, she’s really good at being there for people. I can say that she’s less sweet to me now. (I can’t wait for her to read this. 😊 )

Kris Michaels: What was the impetus to say, “Hey, let’s write a book?”

Kindle Alexander: It started after my daughter’s accident. It was in the Twilight craze time-frame. That’s when we found adult vampires through JR Ward. We couldn’t read fast enough to get our fill. About that time, Facebook opened to the public. We found Role Playing/fanfiction of JR Wards characters and we somehow got involved. I weirdly became Blay, she was Saxton on Facebook. We fell in love with MM Romance. Loved it. The stories in my head turned to guy on guy. It was actually a little shocking how completely all of the girls in my head and in the stories I was reading turned to guys.

It was right about the time the e-reader was invented. We didn’t know about the MM Romance world so we started writing these scenes online in fanfiction and developed a following. I remember the day I was in my writing partner’s kitchen and I said, “I think we should take these scenes and write a book.” She looked at me shocked and appalled and said, “But I failed English.” (We believed authors were a gift from a higher power, we weren’t worthy. We still believe that and still believe we’re not worthy.)

Kris Michaels: Do you write full time?

Kindle Alexander: Yes, even though we’re very slow. As an Indie Author, there is so much work outside of the writing process. It takes a lot to keep our books in front of people.

Kris Michaels: How many books do you currently have on your backlist?

Kindle Alexander: 8, 9, or 10. Something like that. I’m excited to say that Painted On My Heart won the Gold award in both the LGBT category and the Romance category for the eLit Awards. We’re proud of that accomplishment. No other LGBT book has ever won the Romance award.

Kris Michaels: Tell me what the process is for writing together. Do you swap scenes or do you each write a main character? Do you physically meet to write together or do you write separately and marry the efforts on line?

Click to buy.

Kindle Alexander: Yes. We write all over each other and send the file back and forth. She’s a diva. She likes Word, so we don’t use a shared online version, its one file shared back and worth, broken up into sections. The best thing about writing together is the pre-planning. We talk about guys kissing all of the time. Its great fun.

Kris Michaels: I know authors hate to say one character is their favorite, but if you two had to pick one character each (and don’t worry, we won’t tell your other guys) who would you pick and why?

Kindle Alexander: She picks Aaron from Full Domain. Aaron is a lot like her, they share the same personality. I pick Kane from Always. I connect with his personality. Always was a healing book for me, and Kane is a lot like I see myself.

Kris Michaels: What story was the absolute hardest to write? Was an emotional or technical difficulty?

Kindle Alexander: Well, that’s hard. Always was healing but the whole book was written nine months before I could actually finish the last few chapters. I cried and cried and cried and cried. So I appreciate that book.

Full Domain really took us to the next level of writing. Pulling the mystery and intrigue together as new writers was a challenge to get right.

Painted On My Heart is probably the one story that helped in my understanding of the true world of a gay man, especially ones with any age on them. We touched on things we thought we understood and learned quickly that we didn’t. In return, we met some of the very best people in the world because of that story. The research alone put us in a situation that’s changed the way we see life. Spoiler alert – Painted touches on HIV. We spent days talking to the Department of Health, then taking that knowledge out to gay men with this disease. Some of those men are now close personal friends. My life is far better off because of their willingness to get involved with our story before and after it was written. Painted kind of turned into a statement book. I’m not sure we’ll ever get as much out of a book as we did that one.

Kris Michaels: What story flew off your fingertips and took you both by surprise?

Kindle Alexander: Double Full. It was written insanely fast for us. Such a letdown to learn it was an anomaly. We’re painfully slow writers deleting at least as many words as we write. I just chopped 35,000 words off this story we’re working on.

Kris Michaels: If you had a walk on song, you know the song that baseball players have blaring from speakers when they come up to bat, what would the songs be for you?

Kindle Alexander: What’s a song with lots of pain and crying?

Interviewer Note: Bon Jovi anything is what I hear when I imagine the Kindles walking toward home plate

Kris Michaels: Do you write full time?

Yee-ha! Click to buy.

Kindle Alexander: Is this some sort of preconceived question based on the answers you think we’ll give? Are you suggesting I should stop and get a day job? 😊

Interviewer Note : I may have written these questions after my second whiskey for the evening, but I loved the answer!

Kris Michaels: If I stranded you on a mountain top and only allowed you access to three books to read until the spring thaw (three total, not each…shakes finger at Kindle, I’m watching you) what three books would they be?

Kindle Alexander: A heavy book to kill bugs and mosquitoes. Another should be how to cook in the wilderness and probably another on how to construct a house with only rocks and my girlie attitude as tools. If I get a fourth one, something that teaches me how to make vodka out of pine trees.

Kris Michaels: What is your favorite thing about writing in the M/M genre?

Kindle Alexander: At different times I’ve had different answers, but my honest answer is everything. I love guy with guy. I tend to watch shows with MM involvement, I volunteer my time and money for LGBT causes, I’ve transitioned all my real-life friends into people that agree with equality for all, I love this world. I love the open mindedness that so many readers have who read gay fiction. My life is better on so many levels than ever before. We’ve gotten lots of hate from both inside and outside the genre, but even factoring that in, nothing is as good being a part of this world.

Kris Michaels: Tell us about the latest book you are working on. Date of anticipated release? Is it part of a series or the beginning of a series?

Kindle Alexander: We’ve stopped doing series. We have a huge cast of characters. We’ve decided to let our characters work together as needed. This next book is tentatively called Reservations, and will be out sometime late fall. Arik and Kellus as well as Tristan and Dylan are involved in this story. I believe we have names for our characters. This time it was hard to come up with both their names. Wanna know? I haven’t said this before. Levi and Thane. Thane’s name has special meaning. You’ll have to read the story to learn why. 😊

Kris Michaels: Do you still get butterflies before you hit publish?

Kindle Alexander: Oh my god -sick as a dog. We get an insane amount of hate when we publish – lots and lots of love and friendship and community, but hate too. It’s the anticipation of it all, but I can say, our friends and readers are great at building us up and standing beside us. For that, I sincerely thank each one. Kris is really good at that for us. So we’re blessed and that has to remain the focus.

Kris Michaels: If each of you had a magic wand and could change only one thing each about the world today to make it a better place, what would you change?

Kindle Alexander: For both of us, it’s the level of discord and hate spewing so freely in today’s world. It’s too much. Our world has gotten sincerely mean. Next would be healthcare.

Here’s more about Rogue Desire, which came out earlier in July and is a perfect romance read for these politically charged times:

When all else fails, find love.

Eight brand new romances for fans of the West Wing, fired-up #resistance fighters, and everyone who ever had a crush on that guy at a protest…

GRASSROOTS

by Adriana Anders

Veronica Cruz is in the fight of her life for a seat on the city council. Meeting reclusive finance genius Zach Hubler should be a stroke of good luck—he has the power to sway public opinion. But when Election Day comes around and things don’t go as expected, Veronica has to know: just how shady is the man of her dreams?

DEEP THROAT

by Dakota Gray

He’s an escort, but that’s not his biggest secret. She’s a maid at the hotel he uses “for business.” When their worlds collide, everything is put on the line. But indulging every secret desire comes at a cost, and the sins of the past won’t be forgotten.

RESISTANCE

by Amy Jo Cousins

All Kaz Shamsi wanted to do was get his college students to and from the DC protest without losing any of them. Getting caught up in the fringes of anarchist violence was not on the agenda. Neither was a motorcycle escape, messing around with a bandanna-masked antifa protestor, or figuring out that guy was one of the students he was supposed to be chaperoning.

Now he’s got a ten-hour bus ride back to campus ahead of him, with a stupidly cute student who makes terrible decisions trying to talk Kaz into making one more.

KISSING AND OTHER FORMS OF SEDITION

by Emma Barry

When a global crisis threatens to go nuclear, the world tips upside down and spills out Graham Wilcox’s unspoken feelings for Cadence Martel. Cadence is equal parts shocked and delighted by his confession, but one night of passion isn’t enough. So the new lovers set out on a road trip to save the world.

TRUTH, LOVE AND SUSHI

by Stacey Agdern

When First Daughter Caroline Crosby finds herself in possession of the one document that can bring her father and his administration down, she turns to a real life social justice warrior for help. Max Wilcox isn’t sure what to make of Caroline: is this an elaborate hookup or a political conspiracy? But he has to make up his mind fast because the information and their chemistry could change the world—or break their hearts.

MY DELIGHT IS IN HER

by Jane Lee Blair

When Leonard West chose the pastorate, his college girlfriend chose a life without him. But not wanting to be a pastor’s wife didn’t mean Kim Jones didn’t want to work for the greater good. Now, her resistance work has led her back to Leonard, and they must grapple with their old pain. Can they trust God and each other enough to try again?

PERSONAL DISASTER

by Ainsley Booth

Marcus Dane left the tech world and joined the National Park Service a decade ago. Now an intrepid reporter has tracked down the park ranger-who-could-have-been-a-billionaire and, even worse, she has a theory that could blow his quiet life to smithereens. He needs to send her packing. But he’s already tumbled head-over-heels in insta-lust with her flippy ponytail and smart mouth, and he just can’t seem to let her go.

LIFE, LIBERTY AND WORSHIP

by Tamsen Parker

Paige Robinson has been working out her angst about the new administration in spin class, until a handsome stranger with maddening politics harshes her mellow. Now she’s determined to get even…in the bedroom. Always awkward Carter Cox is shocked when his crush propositions him, but there’s no way he’s turning her down. Will their filthy assignation provide the catharsis Paige has in mind, or can they truly cross the aisle to find more?

And this hot scene is from “Life, Liberty and Worship” by Tamsen Parker.

Paige Robinson didn’t hate people. Disliked them, yes. Disagreed with them, certainly. Could live a long, happy life without ever seeing or speaking to certain people, of course.

But the man she’d come to think of as Dick? She loathed him. Also wanted to f**k him into next week, but that was beside the point. Mostly she hated him. A lot.

Spin class was supposed to be her three times a week respite from the pressures of her busy job, her demanding boss, and her never-ebbing tension of working for an administration that would be delighted to put her out of a job and destroy everything she and her colleagues had busted their collective a**es to build. It was supposed to be an hour of nothing but sweating through her clothes, letting the pounding music beats silence her worries, and following her drill sergeant of an instructor’s orders. That’s what spin class had been, until about two months ago when he had showed up.

Wearing the dude spinner’s uniform of cycling shoes, commuter shorts, and a T-shirt, he’d walked in, set up at the bike in front of her, and never left. It would have been fine. Better than fine, really, because he was just Paige’s type with his casually in-shape body—slightly veined forearms, muscular calves, and, okay, an a** to die for—and his beginning-to-thin-at-his-crown sandy hair. There was one thing that had transformed him from three-times-a-week eye candy and potential date to nemesis.

His goddamn T-shirts.

Why the man had to use himself as a walking billboard for his politics, she didn’t know. It’s not like she walked around wearing her Bartlet for President tee. Often anyway. At the farmer’s market? Sure. Doing laundry or chilling at her apartment on a quiet Sunday night? She’d have her HOPE shirt on, or one of her A Woman’s Place Is in the Resistance tanks. But here where it felt as though they were almost a captive audience, she wouldn’t shove her politics in other people’s faces.

Dick felt no such compunction. Today it was Stop the War on Small Business. Monday it had been Keep Calm and Fight Socialism. God knows what he’d be wearing to make her blood boil on Friday.

Paige could’ve moved, but this was her bike, dammit. It was the perfect distance from the speakers and the fans, she could see the instructor, and still beat the rest of the class to the showers when the sweat-fest was over so she wouldn’t be late getting to work. No way was she ceding ground to Dick.

She’d take the rage that still lingered from last week’s What Would Milton Friedman Do? shirt, and channel it into a hell of a workout while she fantasized about grabbing him after class, dragging him into a broom closet and making him service her on his knees, his curly hair between her fingers, face pressed between her legs, and explained to him why he was so very, very wrong about everything he believed.

If she wasn’t careful, she’d come on the bike.

Sexy Sunday Snippet: Jared, The Kings of Guardian series, by Kris Michaels

This week we have a hot bit from Book 5 of Kris Michaels’ The Kings of Guardian series.

About the book:

The jagged line between love and hate is paper thin and razor sharp. Pushing Christian across that line severs him from Jared’s life…until fate steps in giving Jared one last chance.

Jared King had endured more than the normal amount of danger in his life.

He’d jumped from planes into hot landing zones, been shot at, almost blown up—twice, damn near killed more times than he cared to remember. Yet, nothing in his past compared to the danger of admitting his feelings for Christian Koehler. When Jared pushed Christian away too hard, once too often, the young man finally left and took Jared’s heart with him.

Once upon a time, Christian Koehler had idolized Jared King. But after two years of the arrogant man’s hot and cold mind games, Christian avoided the sexy Guardian like the plague. The jagged line between love and hate was paper thin and razor sharp, and Jared had pushed Christian across that line, with prejudice.

When Christian discovers what he believes is a common thread in several disappearances of the homeless and at-risk teens in his area, he immediately tells his superiors. But neither his employer nor the D.C. cops believe the missing children are connected. Desperate to find out the truth, Christian swallows his pride and returns to the Kings and Guardian for help.

Jared seizes the opportunity to investigate the missing children and the unexpected chance to once again be part of Christian’s life. What he finds leads to a tempest of deceit, danger and intrigue that pulls Christian back into Jared’s world.

This time, Jared vows to fight to keep Christian with him forever—no matter the cost.

Book excerpt:

Christian woke to a heavy muscled arm over his hip. Jared’s hot breath tickled his shoulder.  His body ached with the echoes of last night’s reality-bending sex. He always knew they had chemistry, but what they shared last night had gone beyond the limits of Christian’s imagination. Jared was a considerate lover.  The man’s girth would wreck anyone, but he was gentle, careful and deliberate with his preparation.  Before he’d let exhaustion claim him, Jared had ensured Christian was clean and comfortable. This side of Jared fascinated him. The man was a myriad of personalities, but the whole of the man laid Christian’s heart and soul bare. He’d never be able to walk away from Jared King. He belonged to this man. It was as if it was written in his genetic code.  He wasn’t whole unless he was with the man.

Christian took a deep breath and contemplated that shocking thought.  He knew who he was. He was the product of a fucked up childhood, true, but he was a fighter and a survivor. He worked at a job he loved, but in every aspect of his life, some part of him was missing. Jared filled those misshapen, oddly formed holes. Christian ran his fingers up and down Jared’s arm.  Even after all the shit during the last three years, right now…well, hell, Jared made him happy. Damn, he never thought he’d say that, especially after the fucked up way they started.

“You’re thinking too hard.”  Jared tightened his arm and pulled Christian back into his chest.

Christian chuckled and pushed back on the semi-hard cock growing between his butt cheeks. “Did you say hard?”

Jared laughed and kissed his shoulder where it joined his neck. Gooseflesh formed at the scrape of his morning beard and a shiver ran down his spine. That earned a growl from his lover. “Don’t move, babe.”

Babe. Christian’s mind stopped functioning for a minute at both the command and the endearment. He fell into those words and soaked in the intimacy that watered a place in his soul he’d thought would always be parched.  The seed of hope that Jared had sewn when he begged for a chance had taken hold and was growing.

Jared pulled away. A rush of cooler air chilled Christian’s back. The bed dipped again, and Jared’s warmth returned. He heard the crinkle of a condom packet and then the snick of the lube bottle. Jared tucked up behind him again and resumed his position wrapped around Christian before he whispered, “Lift this leg toward your chest.”  He tapped the thigh of his top leg.

He lay on his side with Jared’s upper arm under his head. He grasped at the muscled forearm that held him to Jared’s chest and lifted into the position Jared requested.  Fingers worked his body, coaxing and relaxing him as Jared’s mouth, and tongue danced over his skin in a barrage of feather light kisses and caresses.

He was tender from last night and the pressure of Jared’s hard cock hurt when the wide shaft pushed through the tight ring of muscles. At his hiss of discomfort, Jared froze his advance and once again began kissing Christian wherever he could reach him—his back, shoulders, and neck. The warmth and attention of Jared’s tongue and lips pulled him away from the pain and gave his body the time it needed to once again accept Jared’s size.  He pushed back and moaned when the pain eased. Intense pressure filled him when Jared thrust forward and seated inside him in one slow, languid motion.

“Fuck, you feel so good.”  Jared exhaled the words, pushing in as deep as he could go.

Jared’s cock slid up against Christian’s prostate, and his world dimmed to the feeling of just the two of them…to the sensations and emotions that swirled and combined taking a firm hold inside him.  Jared’s gentle caresses teased and slowly stoked the fire he’d started deep within.  Fingertips teased his hardened nipples and sent rivulets of pleasure to every fiber of his body. His cock strained with each firm push of Jared’s hips, each soft caress of his lover’s lips or scrape of Jared’s beard.  Christian reached down to stroke himself, but Jared’s hand blocked him.

“No, I want you to come from just me inside you.”  Oh. Fuck.

Jared’s hips continued in the slow slide and retreat. Christian grasped Jared’s hand and threaded their fingers together.  He needed the connection, the reassurance.  This wasn’t just sex and the depth of the emotions he felt slammed into him with the force of a wrecking ball.  He closed his eyes and relaxed back into Jared’s embrace.  He felt wrapped up in the man that was making love to him. He knew he couldn’t extradite himself from the almost overwhelming experience.

“I love you.”  His words fell like a prayer—reverent and honest.  Jared’s lips sought his. The kiss was sideways and sloppy, but stripped bare and genuine. The passion that built between them was no less than last night, but the intensity brought on by the slow burn Jared currently stoked, ramped Christian’s need to an unprecedented fervor.

Jared slowed the kiss and pulled away barely separating their lips. “You’re mine, Christian. I’ll never let you go. You’re my heart, and I’ll cherish the chance you’ve given me. Forever.”

The Great Female Rewrite Where Life Will Never Be The Same Again

By Elizabeth SaFleur

Lovelies! There’s a new female in town and she just might be YOU. If only our grandmothers–those feminist trailblazers–knew what was in store for their progeny. It might just be me but has something changed this year around female empowerment? (Ick. I can’t believe I just wrote that.) Scratch empowerment. How about a female rewrite?

I made a great discovery recently, the concept of the Great Rewrite–a fundamental resetting of some facet of our lives, planet-wide, that will change everything. According to this concept, it’s possible to go beyond mere change. A rewrite is complete and total game-changer where Life Will Never Be The Same Again. Think penicillin. Think Internet. Think what’s happening around portrayals of women right now.

I’m serious.

It’s Femme Domme week at LadySmut, and if you’ve been catching our posts all week–heck, all month because check out Kiersten Halle Krum’s ode to Wonder Woman–you’ve seen evidence of the Great Female Rewrite everywhere.

Yesterday, Madeline Iva wrote about Atomic Blond, a new film starring the exceptional Charlize Theron, as an espionage agent who’s known for her hand-to-hand combat skills. No apologies, no woe-is-me backstory, just pure unadulterated kick-assness.

Then, this–THIS–crossed my feed the other day.

Proud Mary is a new film about an assassin with a completely different take on bad assery, and well, my friends, a tbought occurred.

I can’t imagine every giving up my love for the alpha male, but perhaps the alpha female has finally taken her place next to him. Femme Domme stories are on the rise–and nothing rises in romancelandia without an audience. In fact, I’ve been compelled to dip my toe into writing a Femdom novella out this September called The White House Gets A Spanking. (Stay tuned for more later.)

All this might be occurring because perhaps the old female archetype of “the weaker sex” has fallen by the wayside?  If art and entertainment reflects society (or is it the other way around? I can never remember), then has the mold of what women are and can be and what’s attractive finally been broken? Are we finally done with women being pidgeon-holed as the victim? The heroine that needs to be saved?

Channeling my best Carrie Bradshaw voice, are we finally the HERO?

Let us know in the comments because we want to hear from you on this rise of the Warrior Woman, the Alpha Female, the . . . give yourself your own name! Because apparently we can do that now. Because we are KICK ASS.

Speaking of strong women, Alexa Day’s Femdom novella, Passing Through is yet another example of how we are taking our place, which is wherever we want to be. (Did you read her interview the other day?)

About Passing Through

The summer’s brought two surprises to bar owner Gigi Dean: the former Army Ranger she hired is the perfect barback, and he pleases her in bed as much as he does at work. Gigi swore long ago never to let a man come between her and her business, so allowing herself to succumb to her intense attraction to her employee for more than one night is a definite no-no. But for how long can she resist the desire to seduce this powerful alpha male?

Right at the start, Noah Monroe told his boss that he is just passing through on the way to a more permanent job. He hasn’t told her that his hunger for her keeps him awake at night. He won’t have more than this summer with the gorgeous woman who is his perfect match. Can he coax her into his arms for a summer fling? Or will acting on instinct cost him everything he’s begun to love?

Hela Yes, I Want To Be A Goddess of Death!

I think I literally squealed watching this preview. The trailer for Thor: Ragnorak is *so* good.

Yes, we want more Loki–and look! It’s Jeff Goldblum! I’m add it to the pile of movies that I’m impatiently waiting for **cough** #WeWantAquaManNow **cough**

Hela Rad! Guess what we’re all going as for Halloween this year?

And then…she appeared. Kate Blanchet plays Hela: Goddess of Death.  It’s always the sign of a great actress if she can carry off wearing antlers. Just sayin’. Also, Blanchette looks GREAT with dark hair. (I always wanted dark hair).

Action figure anyone? Kate goes Goth. LURV!!!!

And mostly, you know, watching this I just am so massively, suddenly into the whole goddess of death thing.

I do love a great villain, I really do. I’ve talked about Circe Lannister before –as well as the actress who plays her, Lena Headey but now I have to confess: I just love powerful female characters. Show me a powerful, complex, intelligent leading female character and frankly, I don’t really frickin’ much care if she’s evil.

It’s not about being evil. It’s just that I want to relish a female character who walks around without excuses or apologies.

Let me amend that–

A woman of power who walks around without excuses or apologies –and that’s okay.  It’s okay with her — and with those around her. I confess I still inwardly roll my eyes at the otherwise wonderful Wonder Woman movie when at one point WW squeals: “Oooh! A baby!” I mean, it makes sense because she’d never seen a baby before, but I was relieved that she never seems to engage with one again. (Whew!)

Yes to these new powerful heroines and villains — Bring on the child free. Bring on the kick-ass. Bring on the women who aren’t trying to please, who don’t live for others, who live in their own skin and never cringe about it.

To sum up: I predict Hela turns a thousand little girls kinda gay.

While I have to wait all the way until November to see the new Thor movie (sob!) tonight is going to be a whole different kind of fun: my sweetie and I are going to see ATOMIC BLONDE.

Quotes: from Evan Narcisse of i09:

“What’s stuck with me after seeing Atomic Blonde is the portrait it paints of the emotional decay that happens to espionage agents.”

Excellent! I LURV emotional decay! It’s my favorite kind of decay ever.

[image error]“As Percival, McAvoy doesn’t get as much of a spotlight in the action department but makes up for it by making his character luridly indulgent and seductive.”

Yes please! McAvoy is an awesome actor, and makes every scene he’s in wiggle with life. You want to crawl up on the screen and hang out with him. This is a perfect role for him. And while I love watching a powerful woman, what I love even more is watching a powerful woman when she has a hot guy side-kick giving her support–of whatever kind. (Wink wink. Nudge nudge.)[image error]

“From the first, Broughton comes across as icily aloof, even as it’s shown that she had a romantic past with a murdered colleague.”

Or…um, maybe she’s just really into her job? Like Bond? You don’t see him needing an excuse to cold blood-edly kill—he’s just really really good at it.[image error]

Thank GOD she’s not another of those movie characters who we have to watch being beaten and raped.  Or someone who wants vengeance for some crazy form of abuse.  I have great empathy for damaged, traumatized, broken women–I really do.  But there are plenty of other excellent reasons to go out and kick ass–we don’t all have to be victims first. Enough broken women in movies – enough!

Talking of a female Bond – that franchise is so dead and old it’s mouldering in the grave, now that they’ve passed on Idris playing Bond.  I’m going to look forward to more movies like ATOMIC BLONDE instead– especially if they’re written and directed by women too.

Speaking of women who are the boss of you….

I absolutely loved this interview Alexa Day did Tuesday. Having read her short story “Passing Through” I advise you to hop on this new novella on Friday, July 28.  The whole fem-dom thing is hotting up, people.  Catch the rising wave:

Alexa J. Day Opens Up About Femdom and Her New Release

By Alexa Day

In just a few short days, an expanded version of my novella Passing Through will be released with Blushing Books. To celebrate the upcoming release, Lady Smut presents three days of femdom festivities in keeping with the alpha heroine’s personal proclivities.

For my part, I’m contributing an interview with author Alexa J. Day. We took a moment in both our intensely busy schedules to discuss the new Passing Through, femdom, and why a touch of the inappropriate can be a very good thing.

(Yes, I did interview myself. I do it fairly often. I suspect I’m not the only one here doing that, but that’s a story for another day. For right now, just go with it, okay?)

Coming soon: shirtlessness at work!

Alexa: So I read the original Passing Through, in last year’s Hero to Obey box set. Should I pick up the re-release when it comes out, too?

Also Alexa: Absolutely.

Alexa: Any particular reason?

Also Alexa: The best reason is that the new version is about 50% longer than the last version, which is no longer available for sale. So in the new edition, we get to spend more time with all the characters — out of bed and in bed as well. Seriously, I really enjoyed drawing the hero and heroine a little more out of their shells. Former Army Ranger and Superman of barbacks Noah Monroe and his employer, alpha female business owner Gigi Dean, spend more time center stage, revealing more of their histories and the facets of their personalities that bind them together. In a way, I feel like I’ve always known them, but this expansion made me want them together even more.

Alexa: There’s more sex in the new version, too, right?

Also Alexa: Indeed there is.

Alexa: What’s up with the femdom?

Also Alexa: So the heroine, Gigi, enjoys taking charge in bed, and Noah turns out to be an ideal partner for her. He’s all about delaying gratification, testing his body to its limits, and making sure Gigi gets everything she wants. I

All that, and a dominant black heroine, too? Click and get it today.

think romance fiction has any number of alpha male submissives. Joey W. Hill and Megan Hart write those characters brilliantly, and those guys match up incredibly well with their heroines. I’ve often said that Hill’s Natural Law is a seminal work, and her new book Truly Helpless is super hot. I wrote about Megan Hart’s Beg For It back when Passing Through first released, and I still think that heroine’s desire for genuine service for the sake of service from her partner echoes the desires of many a modern alpha woman. I do think that many readers are inclined to think that the male submissive can’t be alpha, which is unfortunate. I mean, if we think a man is reduced by his desire to meet a woman’s needs — to the letter — then I think we must examine the level of importance we assign to our own needs. Gigi’s desires are so important to her that she entrusts them to her most capable employee and leaves nothing open to interpretation. To me, the best part is that Noah agrees. Of course, that leads to more problems, but that’s what makes romance awesome.

Alexa: Gigi is Noah’s boss at work, too, which is kind of a complication for her. Is the notion of office romance still taboo?

Also Alexa: I think it is for Gigi. Her business has been in the family for a long time, and she’s still worried that

Another workplace inappropro romance. Click to see that guy in the suit on his knees.

she’ll let her family down if she makes a mistake. Something like this is a big risk for her. If office romance was universally accepted, and it’s kind of close these days, Gigi would probably still feel the same way. It’ll probably always be a taboo for her.

Alexa: So when can we get hold of your book?

Also Alexa: Passing Through will drop this Friday, July 28. The easiest way to keep track of it and future releases is to subscribe to my newsletter. You’ll get a short story for free, and I’ll let you know whenever something is out and ready for you. I’ll also have exclusive stuff you cannot get anywhere else.

Alexa: Thanks so much for joining me on Lady Smut!

Also Alexa: You bet. Thanks for having me.
