The femme fatale, evil and Killing Daniel

IS GENRE CRIMINAL?

Sarah Dobbs

What's the point of genre? Perhaps the most immediate answer is that it helps agents, publishers and booksellers to get the book to the reader. In the past, I've liked it for its time-saving qualities. You want to read science fiction. You go to the small island wedged between vampires and travel guides. You pull out a decent Ian (M) Banks and you're on your way. An interesting aside on the apparent growth of the science fiction section - vampire books do not constitute sci-fi (well, not most of the time).

Initially, I was quite irked at the suggestion that my novel, Killing Daniel, belonged in the crime genre.

iPad and books etc

What a revelation the iPad is. After years of bemoaning such things as a waste of money and persevering with finger ache from, you know, all that writing I do, I can see how this will help. Just tap tapping away.

Also, I downloaded the snowman and snow dog app and was hooked. It's beautiful!

I also for the first time really enjoyed lounging back and reading on a reader. You can turn the contrast down, no real glare, can view it in sepia and change the font. This is all kind on my tired eyes.

Anyway, I've started reading Ali Shaw's The Girl with Glass Feet on it so will see how it goes.

Makes me appreciate the fact you can get, and hopefully enjoy, Killing Daniel on ebook.

Book of the year!

Happy new year everyone! I hope it's a lovely year of writing and reading. I had a quiet new year with family and some Banoffee Baileys. Always good. It involved rewatchingvThundercats at some point (not as good as first time round, suprisingly!)

In a nice way to finish out the year, I saw that Killing Daniel was listed as a book of the year on the Lancashire Writing Hub.

A lot of interesting books are listed there too, so have a little look.

Have a good start to the year!
