-- I write a weekly book column for my local newspaper.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Magnolia Market.

Avery Broussard is feeling optimistic as she plans to buy an upscale boutique. But her late husband's family is rich and powerful--and they have different plans for her.

As Avery takes over a rundown corner market, she finds second chances are possible--including a second chance at love.

What is it about Avery that will make your readers care about her?

Avery is somewhat uncertain about life, which I think many women are. She cares about people and tries to do the right thing.

If you were the casting director for the film version of your novel, who would play your lead role?

Mila Kunis.

What is the last book you read that you would recommend?

84, Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff. This is a wonderful book about letters between two book lovers; I just re-read it and think any reader will enjoy the affection between a bookseller and reader.

What are you working on now?

The second Wreath Willis novel, The Girl Who Paints Dogs, the follow-up story to Wreath, A Girl. It is due out this spring.

Please tell us three random things we might not know about you.

--My husband and I lived on a kibbutz in Israel for a year shortly after we were married.

--I always wear socks—except when I’m in the shower.

--When I was fourteen, I bought a Honda motorcycle with money I’d made babysitting.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Gabriel's Atonement.

Gabriel’s Atonement is set during the days surrounding the first Oklahoma land run (April 22, 1889).

Gabe is a gambler, but he is an ethical one who doesn’t cheat. He just reads people well. After he kills a man in self-defense, guilt riddles him. He decides to find the man’s wife and return the money her husband lost to him, hoping to free himself of his guilt.

But Lara Talbot doesn’t believe her derelict husband had any money. Gabe tries helping her in other ways, but Lara refuses his assistance. She has her hands full with her rebellious sixteen-year-old sister, an ailing grandfather, and her four-year-old son. One problem after another plagues her until she finds herself homeless. The land run is her only hope of getting property of her own.

A friendship slowly develops between Lara and Gabe, but she knows once the race starts, she will never see him again. She prays her grandpa will win land in the run—that they will finally have a place to call home.

What is it about Gabe that will make your readers care about him?

Though Gabe is a gambler who works in a saloon, he doesn’t drink or dally with the dancing girls. A promise he made to his godly ma has kept him from many things most men enjoy. He’s an honorable man who had a rough childhood. His noble and tenacious efforts to help Lara should win over readers.

If you were the casting director for the film version of your novel, who would play your lead roles?

This is always a hard question for me, but I found a couple that would work. I think James Franco might make a good Gabriel even though he’s older than Gabe,




and Brooke Butler for Lara.





What special effort do you want to make in 2015 to improve your writing?

I’d like to learn more about indie publishing—not sure if that counts as improving my writing. I’ve gotten the rights back on some of my novellas, and I’m hoping to get them put up as indie books by this fall.

I hear you on that, Vickie! I'm eager to learn that as well.

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

Big Sky Daddy by Linda Ford. It’s a historical set in Montana, and is a family feud story. It has some excellent conflict and a charming forbidden romance. The characters are very well developed, and there’s a little boy who will steal your heart.

What are you working on now?

Book 3 in my Land Rush Dreams series. It’s tentatively titled Sarah’s Emancipation, but that may change. On January 1st, I turned in Joline’s Redemption, book 2 in the series. It releases in November.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of A Match for Meghan.

Meghan wants all her friends to be happily matched in love and does her best to find a match for anyone she deems in need of help.

Unfortunately for Ben, a veterinarian in the clinic where she works, she has turned her matchmaking skills or lack thereof onto him. He wants nothing to do with her matchmaking and instead tells her she should focus on her own love life. When she tells him she’s never asked out more than once, he dares her to go out with him.

Not one to turn down a dare she accepts. ☺

She was raised by her father after her mother abandoned her at school. That male dominated upbringing took a toll on her self-image and social skills.

Patrick Dempsey would play Ben




and Rachel Bilson would make a great Meghan.




What special effort do you want to make in 2015 to improve your writing?

I am working on more showing and am trying to write a novel that is 85,000 words, so I need to take my plot deeper.

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

Dear Mr. Knightley , by Katherine Reay and Five Days in Skye , by Carla Laureano. These two books are unique reads and a little outside the box from what I normally read.

What are you working on now?

I am currently working on a couple of proposals. Since my publisher is no longer contracting books, I am expanding my genre and working on a romance with mystery.

Michelle Griep’s been writing since she first discovered blank wall space and Crayolas. She seeks to glorify God in all that she writes—except for that graffiti phase she went through as a teenager.

Residing in the frozen tundra of Minnesota, she teaches history and writing classes for a local high school co-op. An Anglophile at heart, she runs away to England every chance she gets, under the guise of research. Really, though, she’s plotting how she can move there.

-- I can dance a mean polka.

-- I hate fruit. Yes, really. No, I don’t even like strawberries.

-- I’m a recovering Trekkie. Old school, that is, none of this Next Generation nonsense.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Brentwood's Ward.

Think Sherlock Holmes meets Dickens and you’ll have a feel for the style. I got the idea from an old newspaper advertisement put out by Henry Fielding, the founder of the Bow Street Runners. It encouraged the public to send a note to Bow Street as soon as any serious crime occurred so that “a set of brave fellows could immediately be dispatched in pursuit of the villains.” I wondered about those “brave fellows” and what kind of villains they might come up against, and thus was born Nicholas Brentwood . . .

Place an unpolished lawman named Nicholas Brentwood as guardian over a spoiled, pompous beauty named Emily Payne and what do you get? More trouble than Brentwood bargains for. She is determined to find a husband this season. He just wants the large fee her father will pay him to help his ailing sister. After a series of dire mishaps, both their desires are thwarted, but each discovers that no matter what, God is in charge.

What is it about Nicholas that will make your readers care about him?

He’s crusty on the outside, squishy on the in. Nicholas Brentwood sometimes comes off as a demanding, no-nonsense kind of fellow, but look further and you’ll see a hugely compassionate heart—the kind that makes females buckle at the knees.

If you were the casting director for the film version of your novel, who would play your lead roles?

Gerard Butler is my inspiration for Nicholas Brentwood.




Rosamund Pike is heroine Emily Payne.





And the cad, Charles Henley, is really Alex Pettyfer.

The Secret of Pembrooke Park by Julie Klassen. The story is filled with intrigue and the characters stick with you long after you close the cover.

A sequel to Brentwood’s Ward. Officer Alexander Morton appears several times in connection with Nicholas Brentwood, but he was begging for a story of his own. Here’s a blurb:

And now let's meet novelists Neta and Dave Jackson, authors of Pound Foolish (Castle Rock Creative Inc, October 2014).

Neta and Dave Jackson are a husband and wife writing team, and are the authors or co-authors of more than 120 books that have sold over 2.5 million copies. They are best known for Neta’s Yada Yada Prayer Group series and their forty-volume Trailblazer series.

They both grew up on the west coast but settled in the Chicago area, which inspires many of the settings and characters for their novels. Their life-journey has included a passion for racial reconciliation and understanding what it truly means for the different parts of the Body of Christ to “need each other” (1 Cor. 12).

They raised two children who in turn rewarded them with four grandchildren who keep them hopping and young at heart.

Please tell us three random things we might not know about you.

--Dave is a farmer at heart and grows wonderful vegetables in our back yard.

--Neta had an imaginary horse and two imaginary dogs as pets while growing up.

--Dave and Neta have been married an amazing 48 years!

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Pound Foolish.

Greg Singer coordinates sports shows for powerboats, four wheelers, snowmobiles, and jet skis—macho toys for outdoor men like himself. But the job puts tremendous stress on his marriage with Nicole, who for the first time notices the handsome lawyer who lives at the end of their block. (“Greener pastures”?)

When the recession hits Greg’s industry, he decides the crisis is merely an opportunity for God to bless him with unmatched prosperity—a promise he hears preached each Sunday at his megachurch—and he steps out in bold faith. But is he being “pound foolish”?

The fourth in the Windy City Neighbors series, Pound Foolish returns us to Beecham Street, a typical urban neighborhood. Intersecting with Penny Wise (book 3), the Jacksons employ the innovating storytelling technique of “parallel novels.” Though each book follows its own story arc, the characters lives become intertwined and affect one another—and brings new meaning to prosperity.

What is it about Greg that will make your readers care about him?

Greg is well-meaning but a little clueless about how to support his homeschooling wife. He plans surprises for her but they’re not what really matters to her. He’s not a bad guy—he’s faithful, loves his wife and kids, wants to do the right thing by his family—so you want him to succeed even though you want to shake some sense in his head when he goes off like the Lone Ranger, trying to make things work out on his own. As “head of the family,” he doesn’t want to burden her with how bad things really are when he loses his job—but in the process ends up leaving her out.

You can’t believe he keeps making bad decisions, each one supposedly destined to be “the” answer, the quick fix to all their problems. But knowing he really does love his wife and kids, you hang in there with him because you know he’s either going to crash and burn or he’s going to get a wakeup call that finally opens his eyes. And you want to be there when it happens.

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

Dave:   Wayfaring Stranger by James Lee Burke. He’s a superb artist of literary imagery that makes you feel the characters and settings of his stories..

Neta:   The Known World by Edward P. Jones. Amazing characterizations, painfully honest about the realities of slavery in the few years just before the Civil War, and yet many of the characters, both white and black, are complex, not all good, not all bad (though some are very very bad!). Won a Pulitzer Prize.

What are you working on now?

The fifth and final book in the Windy City Neighbors series, tentatively titled, Snowmaggedon. Projected release date: May 2015.

Martha Rogers is a free-lance writer and was named Writer of the Year at the Texas Christian Writers Conference in 2009 and writes a weekly devotional for ACFW.

Martha and her husband Rex live in Houston where they enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. A former English and Home Economics teacher, Martha loves to cook and experimenting with recipes and loves scrapbooking when she has time.

She has written three series, Winds Across the Prairie and Seasons of the Heart and The Homeward Journey. Book three in that series, Love Never Fails, released in November, 2014.

Please tell us three random things we might not know about you.

--I was a nursing student before I changed majors to become a Home Economics major in college.

--I took piano lessons for almost 4 years, but I don’t play the piano today.

--I busted my left knee when I was 14 playing football with the boys in my neighborhood.

Just shows how many of our plans "today" may not necessarily play out as we expect! 

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Love Never Fails.

When differences in beliefs about guns and violence drive Stefan and Molly apart, they can see no solution or compromise.

Then a hostage situation changes Molly’s mind, but it may be too late for a war injury has sent Stefan into retreat from life. It takes Molly’s faith and love for Stefan to show him God’s love never fails and will help Stefan overcome the injury that ended his military career.

What is it about Molly that will make your readers care about her?

Molly is headstrong and opinionated, but her faith in God drives her and teaches her that her opinions and attitudes are not always right, and she is willing to listen and make the changes.

If the sky were the limit, what is one writing-related gift you would love to receive for Christmas?

If money were no object, I would want an all expense paid conference, preferable the ACFW one or Mount Hermon.

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

The last novel I read was When Night Comes by Dan Walsh. I recommend it because it’s Dan and he’s a great writer. However, this is a departure from his usual stories, and I truly became caught up in the story and the plot that included twists and turns that kept me guessing.

What are you working on now?

I’m starting work on a new Christmas novel to be released in 2016. It will follow the family in my latest release for a Christmas in Stoney Creek.

What is it about David that will make your readers care about him?

David Stone is a retired Air Force pilot who heads up and donates his time to the Northern Frontier Search and Rescue Organization. Having come from the war zone, he is struggling to find a place for him outside the military and mend his relationship with his daughter.
