The Editing Process
Book #2, Four Winds, has a release date of May 24th- this year! As I work with an amazing editor on polishing it, I am being to understand the role of the editor. She can "fix" the technical "things", but where she is priceless is when she points out things only I can fix. I've had a difficult time starting Four Winds from the beginning and have rewritten the first three pages at least twenty (maybe more) times, and yet, as soon as my editor sent me suggestions, I knew what was wrong. I had to cut the first two pages and rewrite the third... and it worked! I was too close to the opening to see what needed to be sacrificed, and had my own idea of what needed to happen, but the other set of professional, non-judgemental eyes spotted the problem instantly. Four Winds is a much better book than it would be without her input, and yet, she is rarely recognized... so to my dear editor, I say "Thanks! Thanks for helping me tell the story I want to tell!"
