July 2012 Review

First of all July is a special month as it is Smashword's Summer Winter Promotion. For one month only, July 1st to the 31st, thousands of Smashwords authors and publishers will provide readers with deep discounts on ebooks, with coupon code levels for 25%-off, 50%-off, 75%-off and FREE. So in addition to my two already free ebooks, all of my other ebooks will be 50% off the regular price for one month during the Smashword's Summer Winter Promotion using coupon code SSW50 at the check out. You can find my books on Smashwords here at my profile, and the promotion in general here at the Smashword's Summer Winter Promotion. It's worth taking a look at the many ebooks on sale as you never know what you might find.

Amazon.com is now matching the zero price for “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” as well as “A Fine Woman”. So although both books are still displayed in the Kindle Store with the standard list price they are in fact now both available for free.

Last month featured my Question and Answer event at the Romance Readers Reading Challenges Group on Goodreads. So thanks to all of you who took part, or just visited and read the posts. At the end of the event I gave away four free copies of “The Look of Love”, so I hope those who received them enjoy the read.

See you next month!

June 2012 Review

Amazon.com began matching the zero price for “A Fine Woman” during last month, although the book is still displayed in their Kindle Store with the standard list price. I assume this changes when you opt to buy it as quite a few have already been downloaded as a result. “A Fine Woman” is currently ranked at about 2,000 in Free in the Kindle Store on Amazon.com and is ranked 38 in Romantic Suspense.

Having said all that, downloads, or zero price purchases I suppose, are highest for “A Fine Woman” at Barne & Noble, which is interesting as many Indie Authors have gone for the KDP Select option with its exclusivity to Amazon and with only limited zero price days in return. I now have books on sale at zero cost permanently and at multiple sites. This seems to be a better option for me. Amazon haven't yet price matched “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End”, but this is also having multiple downloads at Barnes & Noble. And more significantly it has also generated actual sales of the other three parts of “The Friendly Ambassador Series” at Barnes & Noble. Both free books are also being picking up on the Sony and Apple iTunes stores. It will be interesting to see if any of my other books begin to see sales as well.

On the review front, both “A Fine Woman” and “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” have begun to see one or two, so this is also a good development. Several of my books have now received a review or two, so that is pleasing to see.

Since last month I have also now managed to arrange for both “A Fine Woman” and “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” to be made available for free at Google Play. So that makes them free nearly everywhere so far.

Following my involvement in the Free eBook Fridays promotion at the World Literary Cafe on the 4th of May when “An Affair of the Heart” was available for free, I am now doing a promotion here on Goodreads. On June 19th and 20th I will be doing a Question and Answer session as part of the Ask An Author, Win A Book Corner events in the Romance Readers Reading Challenges Group. The book in question will be “The Look of Love”, so I hope you pop along to the discussion and take a look on June 19th and 20th and maybe ask me a question.

In a strange twist of fate, now that I have published “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” in the UK in trade paperback with Feed A Read, CreateSpace are now making their trade paperback books available on Amazon.co.uk and elsewhere in Europe on the other Amazon websites. This is a turnaround as they told me when I contacted them about publishing with Feed A Read that the situation had not changed and they had no intention of publishing outside of the US. Now I am not sure whether to continue publishing my other books with Feed A Read or not. The only reason I am now still thinking about it is because I had considered combining some of my shorter works into a larger volume. I might still do this, but it will be interesting to see how things develop on Amazon.co.uk.

And that's it! See you next month!

May 2012 Review

All of my books are now up and available on all the online retail sites currently supplied by Smashwords. And the zero price for “A Fine Woman” and “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” are also filtering through. I am still waiting for Amazon to price match them, but that might take a while yet. I am not sure if I can make them free at Google or if they price match as well, but I will let you know if I find out.

Since I made them available for free last month I have begun to see some downloads of “A Fine Woman” and “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” at Smashwords and at some of the other retail sites. In fact Sony and Barnes & Noble have been quick to introduce the free price and have both seen significant downloads. Whether this will lead to some word of mouth promotion, and whether I see any reviews from these downloads, only time will tell. I currently have two reviews for “A Fine Woman,” one of which is down to the free offer. A few of my other titles have also picked up some reviews recently, so the free offer might be helping to improve my visibility. I hope so.

Another free offer has just closed. On Friday the 4th May “An Affair of the Heart” was one of the books on offer for free at the World Literary Cafe as part of their Free eBook Fridays promotion. They provided a Smashwords coupon to all who asked for one and I saw 38 downloads during that day. Not bad really. Hopefully I can do some more promotions with the WLC in the future. If you missed it and would like a free copy, email me and I will send you the coupon.

Following on from last month I have now published “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” in trade paperback with Feed A Read. There was no fee for publication and it will make the book available for purchase on Feed A Read and allow it to be ordered through UK retailers. If I want to get it up on Amazon.co.uk and actually in bookstores I do have to pay a fee, but at the moment I think I will just slowly work my way through my other titles and get them all published at Feed A Read first, and then see how things go.

Also on the trade paperback front, I have updated some of my titles at CreateSpace, one of them following feedback from a reader who referenced a typo in her review. It seems that no matter how often I go over them something always gets through. But at least they are getting rare, and this last reviewer only highlighted one, but that is enough for me to update the trade paperback, Kindle, Google and Smashwords editions. I do my best to respond to reviews and keep all editions of my work up to date.

And finally, May marks the 12th anniversary of my website. I am now into my 13th year. Lucky for some?

See you next month!

April 2012 Review

Following on from last month’s Read An E-Book Week when all my books were on offer at half price at Smashwords, I have now decided to offer two of my books for free for an indefinite period starting in April. So, from today you can download “A Fine Woman” and “The Friendly Ambassador: The Beginning of the End” at Smashwords for free. Hopefully this new zero price will eventually percolate through to the other online retail sites like Kobo, Diesel, Sony and the rest. Amazon may also price match in time. This is a no strings attached offer. You don’t have to post a review, say thank you or anything. All I want is for you to download the books, read and enjoy them.

All my books are now up and available at Smashwords, and most now also appear on all the online retail sites that Smashwords distributes to. As I said last month, there are still a few sites catching up as the books filter through, and I assume the new price change for two of them may also take a week or two to appear.

Moving over from ebooks to print books, I have learned from a fellow author on Goodreads of another independent publisher in the UK similar to CreateSpace. This is Feed A Read and it is supported by the Arts Council and a couple of mainstream publishing houses. You can publish with them for free and they can get your books listed in UK retailers. This is a good additional option as CreateSpace only really supplies books in the US and on Amazon.com. Although they can be ordered from abroad they don't even appear directly on Amazon.co.uk. With Feed A Read this gap can be filled. So I am investigating the options available with Feed A Read with the intention of publishing all my trade paperback books with them in the future. I will let you know how I get on.

See you next month!

March 2012 Review

As I have mentioned elsewhere, March 4th - 10th is Read An E-Book Week at ebookweek.com, and various retail and publishing websites are supporting the initiative by providing promotional deals during the week, with some continuing on for most of March. Smashwords is also taking part with their Read An E-Book Week Specials promotion. Books in the promotion are offered with coupon codes for 25% off (REW25), 50% off (REW50), 75% off (REW75) and free (RE100) for the week. I have enrolled all my books in the promotion for 50% off, so if you use the REW50 coupon at the checkout you can get all my books at half price from Smashwords from March 4th - 10th.

Following on from my revamp of the List Page on my website last month, I have now published the Smashwords edition of “The Friendly Ambassador: Walking with the Enemy.” This completes my publishing endeavours for the moment. The additional new links to all the various online retail websites that feature my books have also nearly all perculated through the system. With the exception of “Walking with the Enemy,” the missing links tend to be just the odd one or two on some of the websites that are still catching up. It has been fun seeing all the new links appear, but what has pleased me most is my small but gratefully received sales on Apple at the iTunes iBookstore. Mac users seem to like my books!

Another retail website that supports independent authors is EZRead. I came across EZRead here at Goodreads, and I have decided to add them to the growing list of publishers of my ebooks. So you can now find nearly all of my books under the INDIE AUTHOR MARKETPLACE at EZRead at the usual price of $2.99.

Finally a reminder to please visit my two Facebook Pages for Booksandstories.com and TheFriendlyAmbassador.com, both of which have been updated this month to the Timeline version.

And don’t forget to visit my Author Page and Author Interview at The Independent Author Network.

See you next month!
