Feeling Like I Need Some Color
Have you ever thought of your everyday “usage” of color in your wardrobe? Glance in the mirror once you’ve added a splash of color and odds are your mood will be a little brighter too.
I’m embarrassed to tell you the amount of gray clothes I have in my closet. With Spring in the air, it’s the perfect time to give all of our wintry wardrobes a boost of color and vibrancy.
For me, adding a massive dose of color is simply too much. My solution: add dashes of color. It still has a positive effect on our moods and it makes Springtime feel closer. Here’s my list of suggestions:
Ten Easy Ways to Give Your Wardrobe a Boost of Color
Earrings: Earrings are a great way to add a bit of bold color without being overwhelming. Wear colorful, jeweled studs for a simple, elegant pop of color. Try: Emerald green. It was dubbed Color of the Year by the world’s color authority Pantone. This “it” color was chosen for its lively, radiant and lush hue…a color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well-being, balance and harmony."
Purses: Even if you feel like a big, bright purse is too much for the workplace, incorporate it into your weekend or night wear. Try: A beautiful solid or a pattern you love. It makes for a practical, but fun statement piece.
Shoes: Add a splash of color by pairing a bright shoe with a neutral dress. Try: Yellow shoes with a gray dress or red shoes with a black dress. If you’re uncomfortable with bold-colored heels or wedges, try flats. They tend to feel more practical and less intimidating. A neutral flat with a colored toe is also a good way to sneak in some color.
Dresses: Colorful dresses are usually a breath of fresh air after a long winter wardrobe. Try: A colorful or print dress balanced out with a black cardigan or a navy blazer. These are good “anchor” pieces to balance out a bold dress.
Blouses: A blouse is a great way to incorporate color, when you’re not up to wearing a dress. Adding color doesn’t mean you have to go bold. Try a blush- or peach-colored blouse under a gray, tweed blazer. Try: Putting a patterned or floral camisole under a cardigan paired with jeans for a more casual look.
Belts: A belt can add shape and a nice contrast of color. Try: Adding a skinny belt at your waistline over a black dress or over a blouse and cardigan. The layering effect of neutrals makes the vibrant-colored belt feel stylish. Also try a metallic belt.
Cardigans: A colorful cardigan can transform an entire outfit and it’s easier to pull off because it feels comfortable. Try: Cobalt blue, kelly green or mustard yellow. These are bright, but sophisticated hues that are easier to incorporate into everyday wear rather than hot pinks or vibrant oranges.
Necklaces: A necklace is a great way to dress up any outfit. Try: A turquoise necklace with a white, camel or gray sweater. It’s truly a piece that can hold its own against an entire outfit.
Scarves: A beautiful scarf has a way of making someone look pulled together and trendy. It draws attention to your face and smile. Try: A soft, lightweight scarf. It won’t feel or look so bulky.
Colored Jeans: You see them everywhere and they are a big trend right now. Try: Pairing them up with a striped top, such as a blue and white shirt. This gives you a more polished look and helps to balance out the solid color of the jeans.
This list is pretty easy to experiment with. And, quite honestly, it makes me feel less frumpy around other moms. Do you have any other tips or color-infusing suggestions?
