EXCERPT FROM NOVEL: TO BE HEARD
She asked me under her breath, which turned out to be the only way she spoke, “Do you believe in love at first sight?”
“Believe in it? I believe that it’s the only real love there actually is.” Even though I was just trying to be witty, as I said those sentimental words, it actually made sense. I didn’t really believe that, but I believed that for me at the time.
Then there was a crack of thunder. Then there was a bolt of lightening that struck down over Manhattan. Then the downpour came. We ran till finding shelter under the door overhang of the Levee bar. The rain came down on our feet as we made-out until the drops subsided. By the time we got back to 99 the downpour had started again. I went to unlock the door, but it was already open. We stepped up inside out of the rain and the downstairs open space was filled with gypsy squatters.
“Who are all these people?” She asked me.
“You want the long or short version?”
