What's Not So Hot?
You know what I would love? The ability to train the Google+ relevance algorithm by providing a little negative feedback on posts I don't like. This would be in addition to the positive feedback I give through plusses and other engagement, of course.
Personally, I don't like the way that this "negative" feedback is done on Reddit with a minus button. The point here isn't to determine popularity or some semblance of quality by subtracting minuses from plusses, but instead to help me tune my stream for my tastes.
That's why I'd love to see something akin to "Show fewer posts like this" as a drop down option available from posts when I view them via my main stream on Google+.
This isn't a simple fix, mind you. Adding the menu item is trivial. The hard part is all the behind-the-scenes work to detect patterns amongst posts, so that Google+ knows that post A is similar to post B, which is a post I said I want to see fewer of.
Make no mistake though, this level of semantic understanding is where Google is headed. Google+ is already good at recognizing potential hashtags in a post. That's quite a trick, actually, especially doing that on the fly and at this kind of scale. Google is getting better and better at categorizing images too.
The main point is that to be useful, the algorithms need to be trained, and we need a better way to provide direct, negative feedback on what we don't like as well as what we do. We also need to do that in a way that doesn't change the culture of this place. Something like the "show fewer posts like this" approach wouldn't show your negative feedback to the person behind the post (or anyone else, for that matter), which I think is good and fits with the way people work here.
I think little ocelot and white tiger cubs are adorable, but honestly, I don't want to see them in my stream. So how do I teach the algorithm that?

Know Your Craft Beer Server #9
This is Dana Lucenta, holding my second or third (I forget) Two Hearted Ale by +Bell's Brewery, Inc.. I've had the pleasure of knowing Dana for at least a couple of years and have seen him move from gopher to bartender.
He knows me, knows the beer I want and is always up for a good chat. Find him pouring your favorites at The Handlebar in Tempe. I'll probably be there, too.

Another Modern Indie Author's Guide book launched!
Our third book in the Modern Indie Author's Guide collection is now available on all major online marketplaces.
In a little over 13,000 words Jeff shows authors how to properly set up a Facebook page, and how to fill it with engaging content that turns their page into a place for their fans to connect and share. It's not a marketing book. It's targeted specifically at indie authors who want to get started on Facebook but don't want to spend lots of time wading through a million ways to set things up when they should be writing their next book instead!
Know someone who needs it? Send them to http://bit.ly/184MX7n with our compliments! (or check it out yourself for a free copy of the accompanying content worksheet!)

Author tip of the day: Link to your books in your G+ profile!
This will take you less than five minutes and help prove you're an author.
1. Go to your Profile
2. Click the "About" link
3. Scroll down to "Links"
4. Click edit
5. Type in the name of your book
6. Add the link to Amazon
7. Rinse and repeat for all -- yes all -- of your books
You can link to whatever marketplace you want, or even a landing page if you made one. But I like the branding the "a" provides, clearly showing the link as a book for sale.

Jeff's Publishing Adventure - Facebook for Authors | Books and Beer
This week on the Books & Beer Hangout, we celebrated the publishing of +Jeff Moriarty's first book! Even with all that prep work, things still didn't go as planned every step of the way.
Getting an ebook formated should be easier. But it's not. Going through the process of listing an ebook on an online marketplace should be easier. But it's not. Heck, being an indie author should be easier. But it's not. The good news is that the challenges are surmountable. Just a little maddening.
See the full show notes at http://goo.gl/uMutCA and to subscribe to the RSS feed and never miss an episode.
Books & Beer is recorded and broadcast live as a Google+ Hangout On Air and on YouTube Live! Want the schedule for our live broadcast? Visit http://booksandbeer.com

Recipe for my award-winning Greeberizo dip!
Yes, I know it's customary to share a photo of the final preparation. But this is so simple -- and it just won me $50 -- I wanted to share the simplicity with you!
- 20 oz. chorizo, cooked in a skillet until done. You'll know when
- 1 packet of greek cream cheese, added and mixed into the hot skillet
- 1/3 can of Ska Mexican Logger beer, stirred in and simmered for 1 minute.
Eat with whatever you want. I found some amazing beer porter chips at Whole Foods that were the perfect compliment.
And if you're wondering what to do with the remaining 2/3rd can of beer, call me when you're ready to make it and I'll show you.
