Veteran's Day Craft Ideas for Kids

When is Veteran's Day?

Veteran's Day is November 11. Looking for activities and crafts for Veteran's Day? These Veteran's Day Patriotic craft ideas for kids are easy to make, especially when you make traceables for preschool and elementary students. Enjoy!

Have you heard of the Hug a Hero Project? Every town needs to start one! The non-profit organization raises money to help local heroes in need. Do you know a Veteran? How can you help?

Hug a hero project for Veteran's Day.
Give a hug for the Hug a Hero Project for Veteran's Day.

A simple way to help, is to remember your local heroes on Veteran's Day. Visit a Veteran's Hospital or a local retirement community and share a hug! We made these cards to share with our local Veterans. You can also make a bunch of cards and hand them out at a Veteran's Day Parade or celebration.

When is Veteran's Day?

When is Veteran's Day?

Another way to get children involved in Veteran's Day activities, is to light a candle in honor of a hero. Discuss any family or friends who are Veterans. Explain what it means to be a Veteran, and tell them that you are lighting the candle for a fallen soldier.

Make Veteran's Day Crafts at Home

To make the Veteran's Day cards shown above, we drew the jacket and other features and then cut them into pieces to give the the card a 3D effect when glued back together.

Make one Soldier as a Traceable Pattern:

To do this so that if fits within the card, fold a piece of paper in half to form a card. Then, draw half of a soldier with the arm reaching toward the open flap of the folded paper. Glue the soldier into the crease of the card. Important: Do not glue down his arms!

When a Veteran opens the card, they'll be surprised with a Thank You hug!

To Make a Votive Candle to Light for a fallen Soldier, visit the local Dollar Store. Get some votive cups in patriotic colors, battery powered votives, and glitter glue. Use the glue to paint a flag onto the votive cup. We just drew some silver lines and a blue square to represent the United State's Flag. Easy Peasy!

You can make several votives to give as gifts to families of fallen soldiers. Whatever you do to celebrate, be sure to remember our hereos on Veteran's Day.

Seasonal Books for Kindergarten 2015

Winter Holiday Books for Preschoolers and Kindergartners

The weather is getting colder. Children are dreaming of snow and the holiday season, and teachers and caregivers are looking for fun, new books to share with their students. These 2015 seasonal books are great for preschoolers and Kindergarten too. Enjoy!

We were given two adorable children's books for review, and they are perfect seasonal books for your little ones. One focuses on the joys of snow, while the other focuses on Hanukkah... and Santa.

Winter Holiday Books for Preschoolers and Kindergartners
Dear Santa, Love Rachel Rosenstein is a cute book to teach about holiday traditions.

Dear Santa, Love Rachel Rosenstein is written by the actress, Amanda Peet and her friend, Andrea Troyer, with illustrations by Christine Davenier. This is a Santa story with a twist. Rachel Rosenstein's family doesn't celebrate Christmas

Published by Double Day, this picture book is full of vibrant illustrations that small children will love. It is cute, funny, and it describes some Jewish traditions. However, be prepared to explain why Santa doesn't visit all children- that can be a tricky subject.

If you want to have a multi-cultural discussion with companion craft activities this book is a great launching point. Little Rachel runs into some friends who also don't celebrate Christmas. They celebrate Diwali and Chinese New Year.

Max and Marla take many adventures. In this latest Peguin Young Readers picture book, by Alexandra Boiger, Max and his pet owl, Marla, are hopeful Olympians. The limited palette illustrations are primarily beautiful shades of blue that don't even need words. Children of all ages will enjoy the story, but the target audience is for preschoolers ages 3-5.

Life is always about the journey, not the destination!

Chicken Nugget Ghosts Recipe

How to Make Chicken Nugget Ghosts
We've discovered lots of fun things to do with chicken nuggets for Halloween and beyond. When Tyson® and Sam's Club asked us to share a Chicken Nugget Recipe, we we're happy to oblige. These Chicken Nugget Ghosts are easy to make, and they taste delicous. Enjoy!

Chicken Nugget Ghosts Recipe
Aren't these little chicken nugget ghosts bootiful?

When I was a kid, the classic Peanuts cartoons meant family time. My mom would make cinnamon rolls, and we'd gather around the television. I wanted to have a similar tradition with my kids- something simple and delicious that the whole family loves. So, we decide on Tyson® Nuggets and Crispy Strips as we anxiously await the new Peanuts Movie!

What better way to watch your favorite Halloween special than with some cute, trick or treating chicken nuggets. Scroll down for the recipe!

Tyson® is an official partner with the new Peanuts Movie, releasing November 6th. When you shop at Sam's Club, you can get a 5 lb. bag of nuggets or a 3 lb. bag strips. That is big enough to feed the whole gang!

Tyson® Chicken is made with 100% all natural ingredients and fully cooked with 12-15 grams of protein. They make a great snack, finger food for kids, or even a go to meal for the whole family.

You can watch The Peanuts Movie Trailer here.

First, you will need to stock up on supplies from Sam's Club. The kids love shopping there! They like all of the taste testing stations and being able to get their favorite foods in bulk.

Bake the nuggets in the oven according to package directions. Baked Nuggets are better than microwaved ones, though, they all taste good.

Now, dress your chicken nuggets up for Halloween! These cute, chicken nugget ghosts are easy to make too. Just cover your nugget with a slice of White American Cheese, using a straw- poke two holes for eyes and pop them in the Microwave oven for 15 seconds or less. When done, they look like the Peanuts in the classic holiday cartoon. The kids don't like Provolone Cheese, but it works too.

So, who is your favorite Peanuts character? Share with us in the comment section. You might say I am a bird lady- okay, a crazy bird lady. I currently have 6 chickens, 1 rooster, 1 drake, 1 duck, and a Cockatiel. Yep, Woodstock has always been my favorite! Can't wait to see the movie.

Chicken Nuggets Pasta Skeleton Recipe

Fun Things to do With Chicken Nuggets: Make a Pasta Skeleton
What fun things do you do with chicken nuggets for Halloween? The kids love pasta and chicken nuggets, so we decided to combine the two into a pasta skeleton with a chicken nugget skull. Enjoy!

We played around with food to decide what food would make the best face and still taste good with the chicken nuggets. We settled on pickle faces. Nothing goes better with nuggets than ketchup and pickles- at least that's what the kids say.

10 Fall Play Date Ideas

Keep Busy with Fun, Fall Play Date Ideas

It is fall, y'all. Fall is our favorite season of the year. No matter the season, we make time to get outside and play every day. Are you stuck inside? Bored? Get out and try some of these Fall Play Date Ideas. Enjoy!

Fall Play Date Ideas
Fall play date ideas don't have to be fancy... Just play!

The Voice of Play is an education and advocacy initiative of the non-profit membership association, IPEMA, formed to educate and promote the benefits of children’s free outdoor play and playgrounds. They encourage the scientifically proven physical, social, emotional, and cognitive benefits of play.

Outdoor play is free! Once a week, we visit a different local park and have unstructured play dates with a local homeschool group.

We are fortunate in that we have been able to live our dream life on a beautifully wooded, five-acre property. Everyday, we go for a walk, visit the fish and ducks on our pond, take a paddle boat ride, check out the creatures of the creek, and just play in the yard.

The best part about fall, of course, is the changing leaves. What fun to scoop some up and let them flow through the air! Rake up a pile and jump. It is simple. It is sensory. And, it couldn't be more fun if it cost money.

We wanted to share some pictures of how we play at home. For more fall play date ideas, keep scrolling down.

Little ones enjoy the sensory aspect of leaves. They crunch, they crumble, and crack.

Adam Rubin Author Books

Books by Adam Rubin, Author
Who is Adam Rubin? He is an author who writes fun books for kids. You might remember his story, Those Darn Squirrels . With the release of his most recent children's book, Robo-Sauce , Mr. Rubin has quit his day job to become a full-time author. Jealous. His other jobs were pretty cool too. He once pitched interactive games, t.v. commercials, and brands. Now, he is just awesome sauce. Enjoy this review of his newest book releasing October 20, 2015.

Adam Rubin Author Books
Adam Rubin Author Books: Robo-Sauce.

Robo-Sauce is the perfect book for boys who don't like to read. Tweens and Teens alike will enjoy the flourescent orange graphics and lively illustrations by Daniel Salmieri. The book is interactive and takes a fun twist at the end.

You mustn't just read the story. You'll want to become a robot too. What's a squishy human boy to do? Create your own recipe for robo-sauce, of course. Robo-sauce will turn you into the exact robot you've dreamed of becoming, but Mr. Rubin's recipe ingredients are hard to find. Good luck, trying to make that sauce!

Eating Robo-Sauce preparing to turn into a robot.

Since, it is all about pretending, we've come up with the best robo-sauce recipe for kids who love to eat sweets. Just in time for Halloween too! So, grab your treat bucket with all that ooey-gooey candy and create a recipe that is sure to activate your robot resources.

Halloween Candy Leftover Robo-Sauce:

1 Pint of Vanilla Ice Cream or Yogurt

1 batch of M and M's or 1 batch of Halloween Candy Bars

1 batch of Smarties or Skittles Candies

1/2 C. Fruit

Chocolate or Caramel Syrup

1/2 C. Almond Milk

Plastic Sandwich Bags

Orange Food Coloring Gel

Remove ice cream from Fridge.

Unwrap your favorite candies and place in sealed plastic sandwich bag. To become a robot you need to show superior strength. You might want to pound the candy flat with your robo fists.

Get ice cream. Take a plastic butter knife and run it around the edge of the container to make it easier to pour or scoop out.

Pour or Place into a large bowl. Use a wooden spoon or plastic spatula to mush up the ice cream.

Stir in Almond Milk.

Add three-five drops of orange food coloring gel.

Yellow plus Red makes Orange.

Looking like Robo-Sauce.

Fold in (Add) Robo squishy candies

Stir gently with spoon or spatula.

Your Robo-Sauce is ready to eat and share with friends! Once you take the first bite- start moving like a robot. As you eat more of the cold sauce, notice how it feels when you eat it. Your body is getting colder- just like a metal robot. Now, walk and talk like a robot for the rest of the day.

Want to win your own copy of the book? Leave a comment by October 31, 2015. We'll choose one person to win!

Day of the Dead Facts, Costumes, and Activities

Looking for Activities for Day of the Dead?
What is Day of the Dead? When is Day of the Dead? Day of the Dead or  Día de los Muertos is November 1 in America. In Mexico, the holiday takes place over the first two days of November. It is a celebration to honor the dead. Today, we often associate the activities with Halloween, but the two holidays are not related except that they both derived from All Saints Day and All Souls Day. We've got some fun activities and costumes to help celebrate Day of the Dead. Enjoy!

Day of the Dead Facts

Oriental Trading Company donated items for this post. We got to choose items from their website. So, we picked out skeletons, costumes, and craft activities for the Day of the Dead.
