Hullo, my lambs.

For some reason the Newsarama preview is too small/low res to read, so I’ve extracted the pages from the review PDF and am re-posting them here. Unfortunately they have the “advanced review PDF IDW watermark” but at least they’re readable.

Enjoy! And don’t forget to pick up Jem #22 next week 1 / 4 / 17!

I REALLY LOVE YOUR PASSENGERS FIXIT POST but im also kinda sad bc what we Actually got seems disappointing and im not willing to watch it to find out bc im getting to where i cant stand jlaw

We might get it one day!  I mean, I’ve seen a lot of really thoughtful writers on tumblr and surely at least a few of them will be able to sneak into the movie-making business eventually.

In the meantime, a few people wrote me back to say that the book COYOTE by Allen Steele has some pretty close parallels to what I suggested.  I’ve not had the fortune of reading it myself, but it might be worth looking into.

Thank you!

And Scotty kills again.

ST:TNS S2.14 A Wolf in the Fold is a companion episode to the ST: TOS episode of the same name. Watch them alongside one another. It’s better that way.

This is parody.
We do not own Star Trek.

{From Star Wars: Poe Dameron drawn by Phil Noto and (I believe) written by Charles Soule . I don’t know which issue}

This exchange changed my entire perception of C3PO.

C3PO is the butt of a lot of the fandom’s jokes.  This usually comes from them being characterized as stuffy and because they are effeminate (

But C3PO is the Mother Hen of STAR WARS.

And no, C3PO is not going to pick up a blaster or copilot an X-Wing.  But I think we all KNOW for a FACT that C3PO was the one who made the soup when someone had a cold.

-

I can imagine C3PO fretting over Luke on Hoth like:

‘Please,

Please,

PLEASE,

Wear a thicker coat, Master Luke. You will die.’

-

And I imagine the throughout the interim up until THE FORCE AWAKENS, C3PO was the one making sure the Rebellion had clean underwear.

-

C3PO is a caretaker figure in a wartime effort and that is a traditionally underappreciated contribution in times of conflict.  So props to C3PO.  Trying to look after a cadre of rebels with really poor domestic skills.

—–

Also, it’s worth pointing out that of all the characters, C3PO was the most vocal about being fearful of the situations the group was finding themselves in.  Their lives were never NOT in danger and C3PO vocally acknowledged that this scared them.  But regardless, C3PO still stuck it out to the end.

—–

(Some people have also suggested that Poe is the new de facto Mother Hen of
STAR WARS and I agree with their logic. So this is one Mother Hen
recognizing another Mother Hen for being worthy of respect. And I like that.)

You know, some of the most interesting proposals people have given about how one could tackle the PASSENGERS fix it I wrote has been in developing it as a video game.  Which is not a medium I am well familiar with (I suck at video games guys.  Truly.  This is not an exaggeration) and so hadn’t considered as a story-telling format.  But the minute it was proposed it seemed like the most effective route to tell a story like this.

And I just want to say that: iamnoonewhoareyouiamnoonewhoareyou.tumblr.com made what I thought was a really novel suggestion in that one person must play as Protagonist. Eventually die. And then hand off their game history to another player so that Player 2 can continue the narrative.

There’s a creative writing group exercise wherein a person puts down an line in a story and then passes it on to the next person to add to it.  And it sort of reminds me of that.

And as I am so poorly acquainted with video games I don’t know if anyone’s done a thing like that.  But it is a really interesting idea in encouraging collaborative gameplay.  And I wanted to share.

Part of why I decided to put the post out there was to see how others would add on to.

I’m really awe-struck.

You’re all a clever bunch.

so you've probably gotten these before but that passengers alternate plot post you wrote was amazing and i would read/watch the crap out of a book/movie like that so if you're a writer i would really really like to see your available works if that's ok and

I write and draw comic books.

My only long form comic to date is HINGES and you should really be aware that the book has been a huge learning curve as far as writing.  So, like, not to down play it, just be aware that my writing skills are a work in progress and that book started a looong time ago.  And I look forward to a lifetime improving.

I’m really uplifted by the enthusiasm people have shown for the idea I put forth and it gives me a significant boost in my story-telling confidence.  Enough that I won’t put the idea of pursuing this story off the table.

However there is another story I want to focus on at the moment that I feel is important to today’s social climate. And that puts this one on the back burner.

A couple of people have suggested that the premise I put forth is similar to COYOTE by Allen Steele.  So there might already be something out there for people who’d enjoy a story along these lines. (I haven’t had the fortune of reading it myself tho.)

Thank you thank you thank you for being so kind and so thoughtful in reaching out to me.  It’s always really nice to know that something I produce resonates with people.
