by Victoria DanannGenre: Paranormal Romance

CRAP IN A CAULDRON

What if you woke up to find you're no longer human?

New York Times bestseller, Victoria Danann, author of Best Paranormal Romance Series the past four years in a row, continues the fast paced and breathlessly sexy adventures of D.I.T.

Rosie hired Irish elf twins, Sheridan and Shivaun O'Malley for the newly formed Department of Interdimensional Trespass. They were wild and nearly feral, raised in the New Forest Preserve with no contact with the modern world until Black Swan made them the only female hunters other than Lady Elora Laiken.

When Sher was assigned as Finngarick's partner, they were both stunned to find they weren't only partners, but fated mates. Blissful fated mates who enjoyed each other for the span of less than a month before Sher was abducted by one of the very demons they hunted.

Meanwhile, the "Wild Bunch", Black Swan's new nickname for Rosie's hunters, has its own problems.

Find out why readers are calling this series "addictive", "tantalizing", and "sooooo"elfing" good".

Sizzle with suspense, Victoria's signature humor, kick ass heroines and gorgeous sexy ex-vampire hunting elves. Grab your copy and an oxygen tank! 'Cause you're gonna be breathless. Get it TODAY!

“I brought you food. Why aren’t you eating?”

“No’ hungry.”

“Of course you are. Elves must consume food for fuel. It’s part of the inferiority of your species.” She glared at him. “Oh, sorry. I keep forgetting that you’re sensitive about that.”

“I can no’ be sensitive about somethin’ that is no’ true. I simply think ‘tis rude for you to insist on repeatin’ the shite.”

He laughed. “You are inferior, but it’s so adorable when your color changes. Kind of chameleon-like.”

“There’s nothin’ chameleon-like about it. I have fair skin…”

“And you anger easily.”

She ignored that. “Chameleons change colors to match the environment. Do you see anythin’ pink in here?”

He smiled. “Just you.”

“Exactly. So I ask you. Would a superior bein’ get somethin’ so simple so wrong?” He shrugged, smiling and completely undeterred. “Annnnnnd, I do no’ anger easily.”

“Seems so to me.”

“Well, it seems you’re wrong about that, too, then.”

He laughed. “I’ll bet your sister is not so much trouble.”

She barked out a laugh. “Oh, demon, you have no idea. I’m a clump of clotted cream compared to Shivaun.”

“Shivaun.” Lyric turned the name over in his mouth like he liked the taste of it. “It’s more musical than Sheridan.”

“So what?”

The question dripped with suspicion and suddenly she was eager to steer the conversation in another direction. It was killing her to be separated from Torn, little by little, every day. But that was preferable to having her sister fall into the hands of the demon. She could have slapped herself for saying Shivaun’s name out loud.

Even if he was astonishingly beautiful with the sexiest voice imaginable and also good at jigsaw puzzles, she was sure his windowless den was not the future Shivaun dreamed about. Although, since they’d promised each other to be celibate and unmated, they’d never allowed themselves to fantasize about lovers. Or, if they had, they’d never shared with each other. Even twins keep some secrets to themselves.

“Eat. I’m trying to take care of you.”

She glared. “I’m no’ a pet, demon.”

He chuckled. “Well, you kind of are, elfess.”

“Do no’ call me that.”

“What? Elfess?” He chuckled. “Why not? I rather like it. Makes me want to sing ‘Jailhouse rock’.”

“What?” It was clear that she didn’t follow the reference.

“Never mind. But let me just say that, if I did sing ‘Jailhouse Rock’, you’d like it. A lot.”

“Sure.” She flopped onto one of the long divans and drummed her fingers on her thigh.

He cocked his head and studied her in that I-can-see-through-you way of his. “Did you sleep while I was gone?”

“What’s it to you?”

That was ignored because he’d become distracted with a thought. He strode down the hallway that was defined by archways so smoothly curved they looked like beach art made from wet sand.

In a few seconds he was back. “You haven’t used the facilities either.”

“Now you’ve crossed a line. Bathroom usage is personal. Way personal.”

“Whatever. What was the point of having me add a bathroom if you weren’t going to use it?”

“Oh yeah! It was so much work. Was that your fourth finger that you crooked or your fifth?”

“Don’t hate me because I can make things happen at will and you’re a…”

She gave him a look that said, “If you finish that sentence, you’re going to wish you were someplace else.”

“Are you cold?” he asked.

With a flick of his wrist four arched fireplaces carved into smooth walls jumped to life. Even though there was no evidence of fuel, flames crackled and danced over glowing embers.

“Nice trick. No. I’m no’ cold. I’m from the New Forest. ‘Tis very far north which means we do no’ get cold easily.”

“No?”

“No.”

“Even without vodka?”

Faint lines formed between her brows. “By now you should be gettin’ the idea that I’m no’ amusin’ in any way. I’m plain and borin’ and excruciatingly unentertainin’. So let. Me. Go.”

He sat down on the divan across from where she sat. “You so underestimate yourself. I find you more fascinating than anything that’s happened to me… well, maybe ever.”

“’Tis ludicrous. Maybe I’ll call you Ludicrous.”

He shook his head. “My name is Lyric. And there’s already a musician named, well, he doesn’t know how to spell, but still, the idea is taken.” Sher slapped both palms to her face in exasperation. “What was that?”

“This?” She did it again.

“Yes. That.”

“It means I would run from the buildin’ screamin’ at this point if only I could run from the buildin’.”

“I can exchange you for Shi…”

“Do no’ say her name.”

“The interrupting is becoming tedious. Why not?”

“Because you get this funny look on your face like you’re thinkin’ about masturbatin’. And I just do no’ want to see that.”

He laughed out loud. “I can’t imagine why you think you’re not amusing.” His eyes drifted to the Chinese takeout cartons that sat on the large low table between them. “Is it that you don’t like Chinese?”

She looked down at the little white cartons with wire handles and red calligraphy symbols on the sides. Sheridan was a recent convert, since she’d never had Chinese until a few weeks before, but she liked it. Of course. Everybody likes some kind of Chinese and it looked like Lyric had brought a variety buffet.

She did like Chinese. And she hadn’t eaten for what was probably… “How long have I been here?”

“In Loti time? Two weeks.”

“I think that’s impossible,” she said, just realizing that she hadn’t been eating or sleeping or using the new bath facilities.

As if Lyric really could read her mind, he said, “I’m not an expert, but I believe it’s not possible for elves to go so long without food, drink, sleep, and…” He glanced toward the hall that led to the bath, but didn’t want to offend unnecessarily by bringing up such a sensitive subject. Again.

SIMON SAYS
Simon Tvelgar wasn’t always the staid and steady director of the Order of the Black Swan headquarters in Edinburgh who manages the most unruly congregation of talented misfits ever assembled into one organization.

No. He was once a young, beautiful, athletically gifted knight, wild and lustful as any, until he fell in love with a Scottish fae girl who on bereavement leave. He lost her to the stones of the Orkneys as they picnicked there on Lammas twenty years before. She was swallowed up and faded from view, a look of panic on her face as she reached for him while her mouth silently formed his name. He lunged to grab her, but she was simply gone.

Year after year he traveled back to the Orkney Islands and talked to locals, but Shivaun was never seen again. Simon channeled his sorrow and loneliness into work until he eventually rose to the highest position open to an ex Black Swan knight.

Now, for the first time, he thinks there might be someone who could find Shivaun. Rosie Storm.

Finngarick
“When it came to my attention that D.I.T. was going to Dublin, I thought of Torn Finngarick. After all he knew the culture and could, perhaps, be useful. I confess to the ulterior motive of wanting to see all the floaters brought in from the cold. He was one of the remaining few. And everybody deserves another chance. Right?

As I mentioned earlier, my wife was working for Black Swan setting up a unit called Department of Interdimensional Trespass. It seemed that creatures coming and going at will were causing havoc that had, until recently, been unexplained, believed to be fiction of the myth or folklore variety, or dismissed as interplanetary visitations. Rosie was busy hiring and training people who were going to function as police.

Anyway, I had served with Sir Finngarick when I was first knighted as the fourth member of the infamous Z Team and came to know him quite well. Most believed he was irredeemable. I did not.”Glendennon Catch, Sovereign, Jefferson Unit

Magic of Books Promotions hosted its first tour during the month of November three years ago.

The company was created from the passion and desire of its owner, Tami Adams, because of her experiences as an author. From her struggles to have her books viewed and appreciated she knew there had to be another way.

Three years later Tami no longer writes but is determined to show the world the magic that lies within the pages of all books.

The following authors are helping Magic of Books to celebrate its birthday. Enjoy.

Message from Tami:

The last three years have been an incredible journey. I've made so many friends who began as bloggers, readers, and authors. I have been privileged to present and showcase new and old books from seasoned and new authors. I've learned so much I didn't even realize I should know prior to getting into this business. And after three years I can honestly say I'm still learning, I'm still growing, and I'm still making friends. I love and appreciate all of you who have supported my little slice of heaven. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.

RELEASE TOUR: All For Him by E.M. Denning

ALL FOR HIMby E.M. DenningPublisher: PGP Liquid Gold
Genre: Romance (older woman, younger man)

Ashley Hartman has always been child free by choice. It’s a decision her first husband knew about when they met and it’s the same decision that tore them apart years later. Now a thirty-six-year-old divorcee with an overly opinionated best friend and a career she no longer wants, Ashley is trying to move on with her life.

Liam White swaggers his way up her driveway and into her life a year after her swift and brutal divorce. Though he’s twelve years younger than her, their friendship is instantaneous and it’s not long before she hires him to finish the renovations on her house.

Their relationship quickly explodes into something neither of them expected. As Ashley starts to let herself believe she could have a second chance at happiness, everything goes sideways.

Ashley woke before Liam the next morning, or at least she thought she did. When she went to slide out of bed, an arm shot out and wrapped around her and he pulled her in close to him. He breathed in deeply, inhaling her scent as she relaxed against him.

“What time is it?” He mumbled as his hand started to roam her body.

“It’s a little after eight.” She grabbed his hand and held it still, then brought it to her lips and she kissed his knuckles. “I’m too sore, Liam.” She whispered, then laughed as he heaved a sigh and relaxed.

“Damn. There go my plans for the morning.”

“You already had plans for the morning.”

“Did I?” Liam buried his face in the back of her neck and sighed. “I think I’d like to stay here all day, just like this.”

“As nice as that would be, don’t we have some renovations to finish?”

Liam groaned. “Can’t I call in sick?”

“Your boss would find out.”

“Do you think she’d fire me?”

“Not likely.”

“Do you think she’d spank me?”

Ashley’s cheeks flushed, and she grinned. “Maybe.”

“Mmm. Calling in sick is sounding better and better. I won’t get fired and I might get a spanking.”

Ashley scooted to the edge of the bed, but yelped, then giggled when Liam quickly recaptured her. She struggled for a moment, but soon Liam had slid on top of her and had her wrists pinned to the mattress.

“We need to get to work, Liam. There’s so much to do.”

“Are you sure you’re too sore? Because you’re sort of hot when you wake up naked in my bed. I can’t help it.” He bent down and kissed the side of her neck.

Despite how sore she was, her body responded to his touch, to the way his hands pinned her wrists. He was powerful, yet gentle. His kisses were soft and his cock was stiff as it pressed against her. The only part of her body that wanted nothing to do with him was her stomach, which chose that moment to growl.

Liam laughed and let her go. He flopped down onto his back and shut his eyes. “Okay. Give me ten minutes to grab a cold shower and we’ll grab breakfast before we start.”

“Do you mind if I borrow something to wear?”

Liam sat up and climbed out of bed. “My clothes will be a little big on you.”

“Yes, but I don’t want to go home wearing my dress from last night, and you still have my thong.”

“I’m not giving it back, either.” Liam reached into his dresser and pulled out a T-shirt and a pair of flannel pajama pants and tossed them to Ashley. “Here. You’ll look hot in these.”

Ashley examined the oversize shirt that was covered in swear words. He’d paired it with a pair of pajama pants that were covered in ninja turtles. “I’m not sure hot is the right word to describe this outfit.”

“Are you kidding me? When girls wear their man’s clothing, it makes them ten times more fuckable. It’s hot. Trust me.”

PreORDER TOUR: Curveball Baby by J.M. Maurer #GIVEAWAY

CURVEBALL BABYby J.M. MaurerGenre: A Contemporary New Adult Romance (with Baseball, Baby & Christmas themes)

Most of Addison’s days start the same. She walks to work, brushes off the townsfolks’ disapproval, and fixes any-and-all local catastrophes. But there’s not a single resident in Willow Run who doesn’t know that’s all about to change.

For MLB pitching phenom Ben Peterson, returning to Willow Run is like stepping into another world. Back in town, he’s poised to do more than merely get his head on straight. For the last six months, his thoughts have been centered around one thing—the beautiful small-town girl who taught him there’s more to life than hurling a baseball.

BENReturning to Willow Run is like stepping into another world.

I turn the key and slip into the foyer of the vacation home owned by my general manager, Mike Messmer. The heavy wooden door closes behind me, the noise a reminder that I’m here to shut the door on my old life and enter a new one. Mike thinks I’m back to once again pull myself together, to find my head. But that’s far from why I’ve returned. There’s one simple explanation.

A woman. An innocent. Not at all the kind of woman who’d have anything to do with a professional baseball player like me.

But like a foul ball hitting an unsuspecting fan in the stands, she bounced off my chest, mouthed a mesmerizing “I’m sorry,” and shot me with a blue-eyed gaze that made my heart skip a beat and my brain forget why I’d been sent to Willow Run in the first place. The smell of beer-battered fish and the long line I was standing in reentered my mind but only after she finished lifting her full pink lips and tossed me a genuine smile that kick-started my senses.

“Fish out of water.” Her perky tone lifted toward me through a grin. “Didn’t mean to flop into you. Every spring fish fest is packed like this, yet every year I manage to lose my best friend. I should put her on a leash.”

I immediately wanted to be that best friend of hers, not just for the day, but also for the entire week I’d be staying in Willow Run. Heck, she could put me on a leash. I’d happily kneel at her feet, look up at all that radiant beauty, and flash my puppy-dog eyes at her.

She lifted a hand in greeting. “I’m Addison. I see you’ve found the right line for the best fish fry in Southern Indiana.”

I held her warm hand in mine. Couldn’t let go.

L@@K at ME! Iridia by T.Y. Carew and Ella Medler

IRIDIAAdamanta, Season 1 Episode 5
by T.Y. Carew & Ella MedlerGenre: Sci-Fi

A team of humans is willing to face almost insurmountable odds to save the human race from annihilation.

The search for Adamanta sends Xander's team to a planet locked in ice. But what else lurks under the surface?

With the Beltine starting to realize the humans are using their precious metal in similar ways, they know they have to up their game. But how far will they go?

Join the Adamanta team as they save some human refugees from a life of slavery and control.

"There is metal in the rock you took from the human?" The Anassos blinked slowly, waiting for the Kyraos who'd just returned from the surface of Iridia to elucidate.

"Yes, Your Highness," he answered as he bowed. "But there is more density of the metal within the human."

"How so?" The Anassos turned her head and focused all her eyes on the shivering human girl who had been pushed to her knees by the Dairos holding the chain to her bound hands. "How did you acquire the polydinite in your body, human girl?" the queen asked, turning her fierce glare to her. "Answer me!"

The girl shivered more violently, shook her head feebly, and suddenly shrieked in agony. Her body convulsed a few times, then went limp at the feet of her guard, barely stirring. The queen huffed with impatience and turned to the Kyraos who had been giving his report.

"We cannot tell without more research."

"Investigate!"

"Your Highness," said another Kyraos with the crest of research staff on his uniform, "it is impossible to tell where the polydinite is stored within the human's body. It seems to come from everywhere. It could be in her blood, or flesh, or bones—"

"Then cut her to pieces and find out!" screeched the Anassos. She swept around to her throne and settled down, dismissing them with one quick flick of her three-fingered hand.

Around her, heads bowed and silence echoed. The trembling of the human heap on the floor, now back to her knees, intensified. How the Anassos despised fear! Fear did nothing but lock up your senses. Fear would not save the girl. Nothing could save her.

She brought her spindly fingers to her chin, deep in thought.

Unless the girl could be made into a weapon.

RELEASE TOUR: Prince of Fools by Nancy Gideon #GIVEAWAY

PRINCE OF FOOLSHouse of Terriot, book 3
by Nancy GideonGenre: Dark Paranormal Romance

A dark prince to her Cinderella barmaid . . .

Rico . . . Prince in the shapeshifter House of Terriot

Reckless, hotheaded Rico Terriot seeks purpose and a sense of pride training the resentful guardians of New Orleans to defend a city besieged by a deadly outside force. Torn between his desire for his brother’s mate and the woman tied to the child of another, protecting their future happiness means denying his own on a dangerous path to redemption.

One night of stolen pleasure he didn’t remember and she couldn’t forget…

Amber . . . a single mother hiding a terrible past

Rico Terriot was the stuff of dreams . . . lately all of hers. But there’s no happily-ever-after for someone living in the shadows, protecting dangerous secrets that threaten her and her daughter. Dare she believe in a fairytale prince when he comes to her rescue, not knowing the price he’ll pay for making her troubles his own? From world’s so far apart, is love strong enough to hold them together . . . and keep them alive?

“Utterly captivating 5 Stars, Prince of Fools is intense, fast-paced, paranormal romance/suspense at its best - A stunningly raw, heart racing story that held me in a trance from cover to cover!”-Cross My Heart Reviews

Amber stood motionless in the kitchen, paralyzed by grief and fear and loss.

It was over. The dream, the desire, the hopes that they'd become more. Rico Terriot was a luxury she couldn't afford. She'd been kidding herself, lost in the fantasy that they'd ever become more than convenient lovers. He wasn't staying in New Orleans, and there wasn't the slightest chance he ever intended to take her—them—with him when he returned to his mountain. Terriots weren't accepting of those not of their clan.

Rico hadn't gone out of his way to seduce her, quite the other way around. She'd taken advantage of his broken heart, made herself available then invaluable, as his friend, as his pseudo-family, as his willing bedmate. He'd probably never considered taking their relationship beyond the sheets and certainly not beyond the perimeter of the Quarter. It was all a blissful interlude to him before being called back to his real life. Leaving her and Evie to face the ugliness of their own.

She stood panting in the center of her kitchen, her sense of security torn away by a single, paralyzing fact. They were still looking. How long before they found her? Was she putting Rico in greater danger by mere association?

They’d have to leave New Orleans. Every second from now on was borrowed time. She couldn’t just run, not with a child to consider. The time to plan for a quick escape started now, this minute, ticking down toward what could be their last.

From now until she went into work, she’d go over her savings, quietly see how much she could get for the house, and start creating a believable lie for leaving everyone she loved behind in a hurry. Then they’d disappear, both her and Evangeline. Or they’d be as good as dead.

The thought again flashed through heart and mind to go to Rico. He’d get them out of the city if she asked.

No. She couldn’t involve him, not while he was within reach of those who meant her harm. He was wrapped up in his own intrigues, and who knew if one spilled over into the other. But if she ran without explanation, he’d follow. She knew he would. So, she’d have to make sure he wouldn’t want to.

Survivor’s instincts that had kept her alive and Evie safe kicked into place, setting in motion the pattern of cool, sharp, unemotional thought that would carry them away from harm and all they’d ever desired.

Excerpt from the premiering story A Slow Awakening
Trapped, Unable to move, and all Alone…

All was quiet. The rain had ceased to fall. The winds died down. The only sound she could detect was the windup clock on the bedside table. She turned to look at the time. Nothing happened.

Again, she tried to turn her head. Her mind said turn, but her neck refused to obey. Something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong.

Afraid, Frances tried sitting up. The view remained the same. Just the ceiling. She stilled, assessing her whole body.

Wiggle your toes! she told herself. Nothing moved. There was no pain, no…nothing. She felt nothing, physically, at least. Inside, she was panicking.

She concentrated, focusing on moving any part of her body. Fingers, knees, shoulders. There was no response. Not even a twitch. She screamed, but no sound came forth. Her mouth did not open.

Dear God, I’ve had a stroke! What will I do? What can I do?

Panic took over, and fear engulfed her. She was paralyzed, with no way to call for help.

She tried to determine the exact time. It had been around 10:00 when she’d fallen asleep. Unsure how long she’d slept, she figured it couldn’t have been more than three or four hours, so it might be around one or two in the morning. Jack was supposed to come around to fix her leaking bathroom sink, sometime in the mid-morning hours. He had a key so she wasn’t worried he’d leave if she couldn’t get up to answer. It was good to know help would eventually arrive, but in the meantime, she was stuck in her bed, unable to rise if needed, to go to the bathroom, to shout for help.

She wanted to cry, but her body betrayed her yet again, refusing to shed a single tear. There was nothing for it except to wait, and see if perhaps her motor skills would return, even if just a little bit. It was the only hope she had besides being found by her son-in-law seven to eight hours from now. She let her mind drift.

COVER REVEAL & PreORDER: Life Without You by S.P. West

LIFE WITHOUT YOUby S.P. WestGenre: Contemporary RomancePublisher: Paper Gold PublishingCover Designer: Designs by DanaRe-release Date: Nov 15, 2017Note: previously released Oct 28, 2016. Re-edited

Once upon a time in a land not so far away, a man and a woman fell in love. They were very happy. Until one day they weren’t – their happily ever after disappeared.

This is their story.

SummerHave you ever been in love? The kind of love that leaves you breathless and makes you feel like you can fly? I have…. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I let him become my everything; my sun, moon and stars but that wasn’t enough for him. What he did nearly destroyed me.My husband’s betrayal taught me the hard way that once trust is gone, it can never be regained. He won’t ever be part of my life again.

AlexIf I could sum myself up in one word, just one, then personally I’d pick fool. Misguided, dumb fool.I made a mistake.A mistake so big that the future I had planned out with the love of my life vanished in the blink of an eye. I didn’t see it at the time. That would have been too easy, by the time I realized what I lost it was too late. It was my own fault; I can’t blame anyone else. Because of it I lost the one woman that meant everything to me.But I’m telling you now if fate ever gives me a second chance with her……I swear I’ll never let Summer slip away from me again.

“I love you Summer, I do, I’m just not in love with you anymore.” His voices hitches at the end.

My knees buckle under me and I double over in pain. He scoops me up in arms and holds me tight. For a moment, I feel at peace, closer to my husband than have been in ages and then it hits me.

“Nonononono.” I cry into his chest. “I love you Alex and I know you love me. I know you do.”

“Not in the way you want me to,” He says sadly, as he strokes my hair.

“You’re lying.”

“Sum I’m…”

“We can fix this, we’ll see a therapist,” I interrupt.

“No, we can’t Summer, I’m sorry.”

“Why? Why can’t we fix this? We were happy Alex... What’s changed so much that you want to leave me?”

He doesn’t say anything but gently pushes me off his lap and onto the bed. He grabs the suitcase off the floor and carries it to the door.

“You want to know why, Summer?” His face once again wearing the mask of indifference that I had grown used to, “you honestly want the truth?”

“Yes” I whisper.

“The truth is I don’t know. I only know I want out.” He looks at the floor before looking back at me. “I’ll get the rest of my stuff another day, when we’ve had time to cool down.”

I look at him in paralyzed horror, unable to utter a word. I swear my heart has shattered into a dust so fine that it will never be whole again.

“I didn’t mean for any of this to happen Sum. I’m... “

“Don’t you dare say you’re sorry!”

“I am Sum, I’m really, really sorry.” He stutters and turns and walks out the door, out of my life.

RELEASE TOUR: Unacquainted by Leigh Lennon #GIVEAWAY

UNACQUAINTEDby Leigh LennonGenre: Contemporary Romance

Rose

One night was all I could offer to a man I barely knew. I intended to return to my perfectly planned life, but now he is back, and with him the reminder of the irrefutable connection we shared.

It’s still there.

I crave him.

One night may unravel my perfect plans as I find myself at a crossroad between security and desire.

Brody

One night, that was all she could give me. Yet here I am back in her life as fate has intervened. When I first saw her in that form-fitting red silky dress, I was captivated.

She owns my heart.

As I set out to make her mine, she has to choose between her past and future. I don’t think I will survive if her choice isn't me.

Rose

As expected, my mom shows up with Pad Thai, my favorite. “Mom, I said I would cook.”

“I never get take out, I got used to it for years and now Nick has this policy of cooking each night, so indulge your mom,” she spouts off as the hurricane known as Justine Wallace arrives on my front porch. Hurrying past me, she makes her way to the kitchen and at home in my house.

Embracing her, she says, “So, I heard you had a visitor last night?” Her smile tells me to spill it all while she unpacks our dinner.

“What?” I ask.

“Kai told me he gave your mysteriously handsome guy you disappeared with the night of their wedding your phone number. So, one last fling before Jones gets back?”

My mom is not the normal mother. Growing up, we had luxuries afforded to us most kids didn’t. Basically, if we were honest with Mom, we were allowed to do most anything. We could go to parties, hell, Mom would drop us off and pick us up. After my mom finally approved of Jones, which was a long haul and a longer story, she made sure I was given all the resources necessary when we started having sex, though the first time, I did it behind her back. And when Jane would come up from Sacramento to see Kai, she stayed in his room. We were given a lot of leeway in life and for this reason, my mom really has become my best friend.

With a smile on, I say, “Mom, it isn’t quite the way you think. First off, technically I am back with Jones. We have talked about making a commitment. You know we took this year and a half away to see if we truly were meant for each other. Last week he’d said he was ready to move forward in the next step of our relationship.” I stop for a second to collect my thoughts. My mom really should be the easiest person I break this to, yet now the butterflies invading my stomach add company to the baby I’m now growing in there. “Well, we were going to try but something has changed. It's one of the reasons I had you come over tonight.”

Sensing the seriousness in my eyes, my mom leaves our food in the kitchen, leading me to the couch to sit down. With a small smirk on her face, she says, “Well, could it have something to do with the cute young man who came by last night?”

“Indirectly, sort of. I guess a product of…” I trail off as my mom stares me down.

“What? You have me confused, Rose,” I know Justine Wallace hates being confused.

Brody

When we stop a couple of hours up the road to fill up my tank, she asks me to get her a bag of Skittles. “Ah, you have a little sweet tooth about you,” I tease.

When we get back on the freeway, I notice she has poured all her Skittles out on her lap into a handkerchief I assume she had in her purse. “What in the world are you doing, Toots?” I ask.

Looking at me, she only smiles. “I have to eat my Skittles in color order,” she says as if this is common sense.

“And what is color order?” I ask, not knowing there is indeed an etiquette to eating Skittles.

“It’s rainbow order, silly. Red first, then orange, yellow, green, blue and purple.” She scoffs at me and I’m not sure how to even respond to her. My girl is a little quirky. Quirky has never bothered me before.

“Well, now that I know I’ve been doing it wrong all these years, I will be following suit, Toots,” I tease but she doesn’t say much, just smiles at me while she eats all the red Skittles, one at a time, before moving on to the next color.

After her Skittles are eaten, she falls asleep in my passenger seat. Being so beautiful, with full breasts, luscious lips and dark skin, there is no denying the looks make her attractive but there is a connection I can’t resist denying, not that I want to.

As she stirs, I say, “Well, we made good time so let’s stop.”

Rose stretches, looking at the hotel I have pulled into. “Wow, Brody. I didn’t think it was possible but this hotel matches your car.” The truth is money is tight, so I need something as inexpensive as possible. Plus, I feel I should pay for Rose’s room.

“Okay, now that hurts, Toots,” I say, trying to feign a look of shock. She has given me notice on my car, but it has been a good car that I wanted to keep for another year, though I understand her worries concerning our child.
