Giveaway for Anticipation of the Penitent ends in 2 days

Last minute giveaway of Anticipation of the Penitent available at B00k R3vi3ws. Ends on Wednesday, so hurry! (I'm so sorry. I hadn't realized that the giveaway is only for participants of the Indie-Fever Challenge. Please feel free to learn more about Anticipation of the Penitent anyway and let me know whether it interests you.)

Synopsis:
When Alezea is trapped by the Devil, she bears him a son and knows her life will never be her own. She is the mother of Thomas, a man reared by Satan to be a killer of life’s most innocent – little girls. Alezea lives detached from the horrors committed by her son and from her domination by the entity who uses her as he pleases. Until she meets Martha who shows her a way out. Now Alezea will risk her very soul to free Thomas from his father. The fight to save her son will either redeem Alezea or destroy her forever.
Rachel knows Thomas’ history, yet she believes her presence can transform him. Her belief in Thomas might send her fully into the Devil’s realm or provide an opening for God’s miracles in both of their lives. In a scheme to continue his father’s line, Thomas may ruin his alliance with Rachel or rend himself from the dominion he was born to hold. The impulse to contrive his future takes Thomas to new heights in his lifework as a killer, pushes him toward maturity, and forces him to encounter the astonishing truth of his heritage.
Anticipation of the Penitent depicts the battle between good and evil in one family until it is rendered to its destined completion. Only then will it be known whether Alezea succeeds in her struggle for a life free from Satan’s control.

Excerpt:

For the first time in twenty-seven years, Alezea looked at Thomas as a part of herself. He was human, not a pliant slave for the devil’s use and pleasure. A rivulet of shame started to stream its way into her heart for the actions she partook in with her son.
Her son. Tears manifested their way from within her soul and overflowed onto her cheeks. He was her son, not Satan’s. He lived in her world, not the underworld of the devil. Her formidable, strong, handsome son had the choice to not be the devil’s heir, just as she had the choice not to be the devil’s maiden.
It was late when Alezea finally completed her story to Martha. Alezea was amazed that Martha did not send her away forever or call the police to her home. Instead, Martha told her to go home. She told Alezea to not worry and that she would help.
Alezea reached out in the darkened room and touched her son gently on the arm, not with the initiation of demanded sexual perversion, but with the care and worry of a mother for her only child who was lost. That rivulet of shame slowly began to transform into a prospect of hope. Could her son, who had no guidance or teachings of goodness, be turned around?
This phenomenon of love for Thomas was in its infancy. But Thomas was a man in his twenties. Could he begin to see Alezea as his mother, to be respected and trusted? The immediate answer to herself was a blatant “No!” Rather or not she reached out to God previously, she knew that God was stronger than her shame, her doubts and the devil himself. She would fight for him. She would fight for her son.
She covered Thomas’ shoulders with his sheet and left his bedroom, closing the door quietly. Alezea stood, leaning gently against his door, still enjoying the emotional impasse welling inside her. For the first time ever, feeling something other than trapped, fear and shame, enabled Alezea to feel relief.

The Beauty of a Skeuomorph

When I came across this word on Dictionary.com, I just had to use it for Save-A-Word Saturday, because it truly made NO sense to me! My writing actually clarified it for me.
Today's theme isroses
My word today is: skeuomorph: [skew-uh-morph] (noun) an ornament or design on an object copied from a form of the object when made from another material or by other techniques, as an imitation metal rivet mark found on handles of prehistoric pottery.
And here's my writing for this word
“Come stand next to me Maggie. Right here, next to those wire roses. And be sure you smile this time.”
“Those aren’t wire roses, mom. That’s a skeuomorph design. Again you’re not looking at the big picture. See, if you back up, you’ll see that the roses are welded into the wrought-iron gate. You can tell that the roses are actually made of silver, but somehow aged to look almost exactly like wrought-iron. It’s quite amazi...“
“Alright, who cares? Just get over here and take this picture. Dancing With the Stars is about to start!”

This weekly word lovers and prompt writers blog hop goes like this:

1. Create a lovely blog post that links back to The Feather and The Rose blog - our host.

2. Pick an old word you want to save from extinction to feature in your blog post. It really must be an old word, not just a big one. We are trying to save lovely archaisms, not ugly giants (for example, "Dihydrogen Monoxide" is not an acceptable choice). Luciferous Logolepsy is a great database of lovely words if you're having trouble coming up with something on your own.
3. Provide a definition of your word. Use your word in a sentence (or even a short paragraph) vaguely related to the theme we have chosen this week. You may also add visual or musical interpretations of your word or your sentence. In fact, add anything that moves your creative spirit.
4. Add your post to the linky list below (sometimes I add it later in the day). Then hop to as many other blogs as you can in search of as many wonderful words as possible!
5. Use as many of the words as you can on the people in your life. Do leave us a note or add something to your own post to let us all know what wonderful old word you whipped out to befuddle your friends and relations.

Giving Praise while Celebrating the Small Things

In celebrating VikLit's Celebrate the Small Things, I want to give praise for the stellar direction things seem to be heading. I believe I am making progress in realigning myself as a writer, building a base, creating more works, and following the flow of this stream. There are still things I'm learning and risks I'm taking, but I am holding on to the faith that even if mistakes happen, I am under the protection of God who will make all things well for those who believe.
May you all have a wonderful weekend and a celebratory Memorial Day!

I Proudly Accept These Awards :)

S.K. Anthony has decided to spoil me with being able to choose from several awards. Not to be too greedy or starve myself, I’d chosen two of the three awards offered. But then Simply Sarah awarded me with the other one as well, and I received another from three other folks, Entertaining InterestsBetty Alark and Queendsheena.
To not overwhelm you folks with TMI about me (and scare most of you away forever), I’ve condensed some of the awards as much as possible. My nominees are at the bottom, and I'm giving them the choice to take any or all of these.
Awarded to me from S.K. Anthony

Saw the new Star Trek with my mom, and it was a great movie.4. I've been missing church lately. Must feel I need a break after going pretty much nonstop for nearly 10 years. 5. An actor I had a crush on when I was little, and kinda still do, is Jason Bateman.6. I'm looking forward to watching After Earth in IMAX 3D7. That's enough for this award!

My Speech:As I stand here, I know in my heart that this would not be possible without my mom who is always proud. She would tell you that Anticipation of the Penitent would win the Pulitzer Prize if it were up to her. But neither could this have come about without my brother Anthony or my niece Celeste, who have both read and edited my book (although neither of them is Christian), and helped me to bring out the good story from within. Above all, I thank all my blogger friends and visitors who have taken the time to listen (read) this most amazingly horrid speech.

Journal Past Blast blog hop ~ Staying on track

The more I look into my old journals, the more nervous I become about these Tuesday postings. But, it's been decided and I plan to stay on track! I invite any brave souls to join in as a blog hop and post old journal entries or any old writings. Just snag the above button and join in using the Linky below.
Today’s posting is from my most eclectic journal, one I’m sure I’ll use the most. I hate that so many of my entries are not dated, and I don't remember writing this one. But I know I wrote this sometime in college, where I was at from 1986 to 1990:
Before setting the lit match on the gasoline soaked house, Edward knelt down and kissed the first step of the porch. He looked up and saw the child’s eyes gazing down at him from the upstairs bedroom. Already the flames brushed just under the open window.
The child was smiling because it knew the end was coming. Edward was crying for he knew his life would begin. Unleashed were the wondrous cries of a man set free of the pained desires of dependency.
The murder was done, and Edward’s soul was set free. Death brought life for those caught in the middle
First the long hair of the child caught on fire until its whole body was enveloped. Edward felt the two fiery spheres of its eyes piercing his soul until the last sparkle dimmed black with lavish death. And Edward became Edwin, with a new beginning and end. The treacherous child inside was no more, its charred face crumbled down into its bowels, excreting out into nothingness.
The house turned into another form, drenched with birthing water in a pond of nourishing liquid for Edwin’s new life.
This entry ended with this:
How is one supposed to write a story when confusion reeks in every part of her soul?

What's Your Bibelot? Save-A-Word-Saturday

Today's theme isexhaustion
My word today is: bibelot: [bib-loh] (noun) a small object of curiosity, beauty or rarity
And here's my writing for this word:

It was finally the end of the week and I could barely keep my eyelids raised enough to see what George placed on the table. He lifted the lid of a small box, and the diminutive artifact inside baffled my eyes wide open. I wondered how George knew that only a trinket of this magnitude and pristine beauty could make my mouth water with desire and my imagination soar to unreachable heights.
“A bibelot of temptation I knew you could not resist,” George said.
I looked at him in horror. He’s found it. Not only does he own me, he now has my life’s blood in his hands!

1. Create a lovely blog post that links back to The Feather and The Rose blog - our host.

I'm Celebrating!

Thanks again to VikLit'sCelebrate the Small Things weekly blog hop, I get to shout, "Hallelujah!"
I've finished the very first draft of my short book called Salted With Fire. It has flash fiction stories and poetry that show my growth as a child of God. At the end of each story, is a short discussion on Biblical themes that relate to the story, even if the story is not Biblical in nature.
I've got to slow my-usual-rushing-self down to reread, reread, reread, edit, have people read through, edit and edit again. And then I'll upload it to CreateSpace and design a cover. Or maybe I'll upload it, design the cover and then reread and edit and get input. :)
I'm excited because I told myself I wanted the first draft done by May, then extended it to June, and was still afraid I wouldn't reach my deadline.
My main concern now is a Popeye fan fiction piece I wrote for it. I'm having trouble getting permission to publish it. I've left a voicemail and emailed King Features, who I believe owns Popeye, but have not heard back. Hopefully that will be worked out soon. Maybe it's enough to detail the history of the creators and owners of Popeye? Any advice? Also, is anyone willing to be my critique partner?
Either way, I'm celebrating!
