Library Stuff

I've lived in my town for over a decade now, and this week I finally signed up for a library card. Now, I have two ebooks borrowed, both of which seem to be popular with the book clubs my local friends belong to.

One, The Book Thief, I borrowed simply because it was available right away on the Library Catalog. I'm 4% in, and I think the thing I like most is the unique use of the language and the perspective from which the story is told. My friend had already described the book to me, so I knew who the storyteller was, though I'm pretty sure I would have figured it out pretty quickly.

The other, The Goldfinch, is one I put a request for because I actually did join a book club, at work, which is meeting next week. This is the book they've selected for this month. My friend also told me about this one and I looked at a ton of reviews. I pretty much decided I definitely wasn't going to fork over money to read it (it's rather expensive, even as an ebook), so it was either land a copy from the library or show up to the meeting without having read it. Anyway, so far it's pretty good, though it definitely is one of those that takes its time, not one you'd want to read if you're in the hurry or just want to get to the point. I like how it opens up with the main character hiding out after having obviously done something bad. It kind of blew my mind that it took 5% of the 700 page book to describe how his mother dies, though. Wow. But I must say that the attention to detail did bring it to life in my mind.

Anyway, that is all. Yay library cards! I'll probably borrow a few more later on, but I have to get through these two first.
