Hybrid Earth: Volume 2 is now available!

That's right folks...Hybrid Earth has another volume up and ready to read. And for $.99. Just a dollar! Can't beat that. Tell your friends. Share with your family. Let's make Hybrid Earth a household name. :D Care to help me out? In this volume of Hybrid Earth, we see Xander Hastings fighting to help protect his charge, Cameron Abbott. She's the sister of a missing Hybrid and during an interview with her, a psycho, machine-gun-wielding Hybrid comes to crash the party. Now he has to fight to keep both himself and Cameron alive. I will keep this short and sweet. As always, if you do pick up a copy of Volume 2, make sure to leave a review (especially on Amazon). I would greatly appreciate it. See you next time!

Get Dragon As An Audiobook

I am excited to announce that the audiobook that I and Jeremy Tully have been working on these last few months has been completed, approved, and is now available for sale via Audible. It was a great experience to work with Jeremy and he is a talented narrator and voice actor. He has agreed to narrate Roc also and is getting to work on that soon. Go, grab a copy of Dragon's audiobook. Let me know what you think. And just to give you a sample of Jeremy's talent, here are the first two chapters, free of charge. Chapter 1 Chapter 2 I hope everyone enjoys! Leave a comment or like the videos on YouTube (also subscribe). Thank you, Rustin Petrae

RP Graphic Design - Now Open (Officially)

Well, after going from one lousy job to a new and different lousy job where I was underpaid and underappreciated, I have decided to go out on my own and start up my graphic design firm for real. This is the first time that I have ventured out on my own and to be honest, it is very terrifying. The sense of not knowing is hard to deal with, for sure, but I would rather face that then keep going to a workplace that neither appreciates what I can do (and my loyalty) and undervalues my abilities I am hopeful that I can grow this business so if anyone reading this needs graphic design projects created or knows someone that does, I hope that you will consider me. I have over 10 years of experience and can create whatever you may need. Thank you, Rustin

New - Hybrid Earth Shorts

Hello friends and readers. I have some exciting news. I have published two Hybrid Earth Shorts to Amazon.com. And (this is the best part), each one is only $.99. You are not hallucinating. I said $.99. It's just as good as a McDonald's value menu. So get comfy, go to Amazon.com, and get yourself a copy of Hybrid Earth - Volume 1 and Hybrid Earth: Phoenix, Volume 1. Hybrid Earth: Volume 1 Hybrid Earth is set in a future where most of the planet's population has been merged with machines. These half-machine/half-human creatures are called Hybrids. In December of 2023, a coordinated terrorist attack on most of the world's nuclear power plants created a devastating fallout environment across 63% of the globe. Millions were killed but the survivors gathered in "safe zones" and went about the process of rebuilding the world. They started with trying to find a way to decontaminate the fall out. They put together a team of the most brilliant minds the world had to offer and came up with a solution. Nanobots. Billions of these microscopic robots were made to absorb radioactive particles which would, in turn, make the areas destroyed by fallout habitable again. The scientists ran hundreds of tests and simulations, all with excellent outcomes, and decided that the project was ready to implement. The nanobots were released into the areas effected by radiation and did what they were supposed to do. They absorbed it. After the absorption phase, however, things didn't go according to plan. Instead of heading back to a safely secured site for decontamination, the nanos dispersed themselves over the entire Earth. When they fell back down, they merged humans with whatever machine or metal they happened to be touching at the time. Hybrid Earth follows the story of Officer Xander Hastings and his Orb, Link. Together they try to keep track of the chaos and make sure innocent people aren't caught in the crossfire. It's a tough job, especially in a world where nearly everyone has abilities and he has none. Even though he is constantly outmatched by beings more powerful than himself, he still finds a way to get the job done. Hybrid Earth: Phoenix - Volume 1 Hybrid Earth is set in a future where most of the planet's population has been merged with machines. These half-machine/half-human creatures are called Hybrids. In December of 2023, a coordinated terrorist attack on most of the world's nuclear power plants created a devastating fallout environment across 63% of the globe. When they fell back down, they merged humans with whatever machine or metal they happened to be touching at the time. Hybrid Earth: Phoenix follows criminals, Ira Kelly, Ty Wilson, and Victor “VID” Daniels, as they are recruited in to a secret, HEA sanctioned agenda called the Phoenix Program. Their mission is to go undercover in New Genesis City’s shady crime groups and bring down the criminals from the inside. It’s either that or go back to the Null. Is there really a choice here? Remember to rate and review! It's very helpful and I love hearing from you guys and what your thoughts are. Also, if you like Hybrid Earth, share with your friends and family. Thank you, Rusitn Petrae

OSU Assignment - 3D Modeling: Biophilic Design

Assignment: Biophilic Design - To create an object that uses the principles of Biophilic design and is 2D printed and or laser cut or printed on a 3D prototyping machine, as the final output. Includes 5-renders fully lit and placed in the appropriate context, for presentation during the final crit on your blog. For our final assignment, the choice that most resonated with me was the principle of biophilic design. I like the idea of merging human concepts with nature. The inspiration for my concept comes from my personal belief that instead of humanity/technology constantly being at war with nature, I believe it is more likely that in the future technology and nature will have a symbiotic relationship (with each one benefiting the other). To highlight this concept, I chose to create a pod with a humanoid figure inside. This is a birthing pod, if you will. The figure is growing and as we all know, to grow, the human body needs nutrients. The nutrients the human figure in my piece needs is coming from both the limbs of a tree and the cables of a technological machine (not pictured). I feel that this concept is very reminiscent of a womb and umbilical cord. The umbilical cord delivers nutrients to the fetus. In my scene, the nutrients are carried to the "fetus" by technology and nature simultaneously as if the figure cannot grow without both. This womb/pod symbolizes the symbiotic relationship humanity and technology will have with nature. I feel this will be the case because humanity evolves and adapts. In my mind, we cannot live without the Earth, therefore we will adapt our technology to incorporate nature and the Earth instead of directly assaulting it. OSU Assignment - 3D Modeling: Blobject Fabrication

Assignment: Blobject - A blob figure must interact with a cube. The way in which our blabs interact with the cube is up to us. For the final part of our Blobject assignment, we were instructed to fabricate our blobjects that we rendered. To fabricate my blobject project, I used a combination of my 3D rendered blob and a laser cut 3"x3" cube made of wood. Getting the pieces together was the simplest part. The 3D printer I used printed a great physical copy of my blob. Since I used a laser cutter in my last semester of school, I didn't have any trouble creating the 3"x3" box. The challenges I faced with the fabrication process was assembling the various pieces. While not physically challenging to put them together, I did find it somewhat irritating to figure out what adhesive to use to bond the box and blob together tightly enough to where it would not immediately fall apart. In the end, I used a mix of wood glue and a hot glue gun. I used wood glue to bond the blog to the cube and I used hot glue to bond the tentacles to the box. All in all, the overall project is very close to the 3D render I created. I am definitely happy with the end result. Thank you, Rustin Petrae #columbus #ohiiostate #osu #art #3D #3Dart #homework

OSU Assignment - 3D Renders: Remix Renders

Assignment: Remix Renders - Collect 5 junk objects of any kind from the street, trash can or at a thrift store. After collecting the objects, render them as 3D models. For this assignment, we had to find 5 objects which were mass produced and either trash, junk, or no longer used. We first rendered our objects as part B of this assignment. The next part was to take those objects and remix them into a scene. I chose to do an environment that I first envisioned in a story I wrote. This environment is from a specific setting in that story called the Road of Kings. It is a road lined on both sides by statues of past kings. The road leads to the Citadel (the stronghold of the governing King of that race of people). I used the objects that I rendered along with some other objects and turned them into skyscrapers and buildings. Overall, I like the way it turned out and am very happy with it. OSU Assignment - 3D Renders: Found Objects

Assignment: Found Objects Render - Collect 5 junk objects of any kind from the street, trash can or at a thrift store. After collecting the objects, render them as 3D models. For this assignment, we had to find 5 objects which were mass produced and either trash, junk, or no longer used. The objects I chose was a toy stick figure that I got for my son and was abandoned shortly after, a Christmas ornament that is no longer up, a pencil lead case that hasn't been used since it was bought, a contact case that's a spare and not been used, and an old cologne bottle. I used several techniques which I learned in class to achieve these 3D renders. I am personally happy with the way they came out and I feel that they will work well with the next phase of this assignment. Thank you, Rustin Petrae #3D #art #columbus #ohiostate #renders

OSU Assignment - 3D Modeling: Blobject Renders

Assignment: Blobject - A blob figure must interact with a cube. The way in which our blobs interact with the cube is up to us. For this assignment, I went to my roots and designed a character. Designing characters or creatures comes naturally to me and this project was no exception. A blob type creature was, of course, what first came to my mind. I started with the sketches shown in my blog post before this one. While the final renders are not exact to my sketches, they are pretty close. I decided to take creative liberties with the 3D modeling software to give it more of a blob monster look. Once I learned and became a little bit more familiar with the software, I was able to get an image that was, more or less, what I originally envisioned when this project was assigned to us. Hope everyone likes it! Thank you, Rustin Petrae #columbus #ohiostate #art #3D #sculpture #blob #monster #blobject
