OSU Assignment - New Media: Arduino Tutorials 5
In this week's tutorials, we were dealing with several different components like the 4 segment display, humidity/temperature sensors, tilt switch, etc. We were also asked to think of a way to expand something that we learned into a full blown art project. I think that I would probably combine the tilt switch/buzzer with a 4 segment display. I would have a wearable sensor that has the tilt switch in it. The goal is to see how long the person can stand completely still. If they drop their arm, then the buzzer will sound (loudly and harshly). The 4 segment display will show the person's heart rate after they are scared from the very loud buzzer.

OSU Assignment - New Media: Arduino Tutorials 4
In this tutorial, our class was working on programming motors. There was supposed to be another series of videos with a DC motor and a DC motor with Relay but both wires to my motor came off and I was unable to set them up.

OSU Assignment - New Media: Final Project Concept/Materials

This is the concept for my final project in New Media. It is an enclosed box system with five icons on top that if the button is pressed, a random icon is "released" and springs up to showcase itself to the person pushing the button. At the same time, the tablet will display one of the above five screens that corresponds with whatever icon has flipped up. Programming wise, I would (hopefully) program the Arduino to respond to the button by picking a random number between 1 and 5. Each icon also has a number from 1 to 5 (going from left to right). If the random number generator picks a 2, then the corresponding 2 icon is "released". At the same time, the Arduino would be programmed to show the 2 display screen that corresponds with the icon that was released. When finished, the person would push the icon back to its original position which would reset the whole sculpture.
Materials: Arduino, wood, metal rods, springs (most likely), wires, tablet for monitor, cord to program tablet with Arduino or to connect to Arduino, metal to attach tablet to box, screws, nails, wood glue, etc.
To get the icons, I will use the laser cutter to inscribe the icon design onto a wood rectangle. Either that, or I will just laser cut the whole figure out of the wood and inscribe the detail work on the inside. I might also inscribe a pattern of some sort onto the wood for the box.

OSU Assignment - New Media: Arduino Tutorials 2
For this assignment, I had to complete an Arduino tutorial for a light being turned on by a button and then adjusted through a photosensor and a potentiometer (a dial).
OSU Assignment - New Media: Arduino Tutorials 1
For this assignment, I had to complete an Arduino tutorial for a blinking light and then an array of blinking lights. Then I had to alter the code to create my own, unique blinking patterns.

OSU Assignment - New Media

New Media - Project Concepts
Idea 1 - This idea features several bars that are outfitted with LCD lights. With this idea, I will program the lights using the Arduino to create different blinking patterns.
Idea 2 - This idea uses a mechanism that will randomly choose one of the five house sigils once a button is pushed. At the same time, a screen will depict that sigil with a description of the house it came from. This is based off characters for a trilogy series that I am currently writing.
Idea 3 - This idea uses a flexible screen that randomly slides through different art pieces that I have crated over the years.
Idea 4 - This idea uses several "skeletons" that will pop up when a person presses a button. My idea is to have some sort of cloth over the skeletons to give it the impression that it will morph from a man to these different animals and back again.
