Books Needed for Review

I'm looking for books to review on my book blog http://www.lunarisen.com/alltheotherb...

If you'd like an honest review please contact me at mlweaver@lunarisen.com. You can also message me here on Goodreads, but it might take a little longer to hear back.

I much prefer paperbacks as e-readers give me headaches, but am willing to review a limited number of Kindle books.

Thanks,

Matt

I’m wonderful! Thanks so much for inviting me to visit your blog today. It’s an honor to be here!

Tell us about yourself—outside the world of writing.

I am the mom to four kids between the ages of one and twelve. I live at the Jersey Shore, and my family owns a seasonal restaurant on a little island called Wildwood. My spirituality is also an important part of my life. I have been studying Wicca and other pagan paths for close to ten years.

What does writing mean to you?

Enjoy the rest of my interview with Laura DeLuca, author of Morrigan, at http://www.lunarisen.com/alltheotherb...

I’m an Executive Producer for a leading UK video games developer. Video games along with writing has been a passion for too many years, it’s great that I get to do both.

What does writing mean to you?

Review of Laura DeLuca's Morrigan

I’ve read books in most genres. Fantasy, sci-fi, historical, romance, textbooks…you name it. I must admit that before reading Laura DeLuca’s Morrigan I hadn’t read a YA book in decades, if ever. And I’m glad I did!
DeLuca weaves the teen angst and yearning for adulthood that we’ve all felt into the tale of Morrigan’s search for her identity and roots. For Morrigan the experience is different than it was for me, but that’s to be expected as I was never a teenaged girl! Early on, Morrigan tells the reader, “…the people around me seemed just as confused and even disturbed by me as I was by them.” This is the sentence that hooked me; the words might have been snatched from the deep past of my own teenage brain!

What I've Learned From Writing #1

Your book will never be finished, but at some point you just have to publish it. This is a lesson I learned before I began writing my first novel. In fact, I learned this in grad school while writing my first research paper for submission to a peer-reviewed journal (accepted and published, by the way!).
I started by preparing the figures (images and graphs) that I thought best represented my results. Next came writing the abstract, which is printed before the full text and which serves much the same purpose as the back-cover blurb of a novel: to explain to a potential reader the important points of a story. Abstract complete, the author’s next task is to write the full-text article.
The author (of a scientific paper as well as of a novel) must obey three rules:

Library Books

While sitting at my desk and daydreaming I noticed just how many of my books are from the library. Over the years my wife and I have visited dozens of library fundraisers and scooped up hundreds of books that were removed from circulation.

While we have many, many books that we purchased new, our favorites are library discards. It may be the faint smell of vanilla, or the thicker paper used years ago. But I like to think that it's the history locked in those old pages that continues to attract us.

How many people, young and old, male or female, touched those pages? How many hours of enjoyment...what distant worlds...sorrows and joys?

First Giveaway Completed

My first giveaway ended last night! I have the names and addresses of the 5 winners; I would like to express my gratitude to all entrants here.

I wanted to get the books mailed out today but there are apparently zero post offices within 50 miles that are open on Saturday. So...will mail them Monday.

What I found most interesting was that over half of the entrants signed up in the last 48 hours of the 30 days that the giveaway was open. Has anyone else experienced this?

After this success, I am considering another giveaway. This first one I restricted to US members. I think for the next one I will focus on non-US members.

Again, my thanks to all who entered!
