STEAMPUNK CTHULHU Now Available for Pre-order
Steampunk Cthulhu, the newest Lovecraftian anthology from Chaosium, is now available for pre-order. My contribution, “Mr. Brass and the City of Devils”, is included alongside stories by William Meikle, Edward Erdelac, and Thana Niveau, among others.
From the blurb:
Mythos Terror in the Age of Steam
We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the deadly light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.
So said H.P. Lovecraft in the first chapter of his most famous story, “The Call of Cthulhu” (1926). This is also the perfect introduction to Steampunk Cthulhu, for within these stories mankind has indeed voyaged too far, and scientific innovations have opened terrifying vistas of reality, with insanity and worse as the only reward.
The Steampunk genre has always incorporated elements of science fiction, fantasy, horror and alternative history, and certainly the Cthulhu Mythos has not been a stranger to Steampunk. But until now there has never been a Steampunk Cthulhu collection, so here are 18 tales unbound from the tethers of mere airships, goggles, clockwork, and tightly bound corsets; stories of horror, sci-fi, fantasy and alternative realities tainted with the Lovecraftian and the Cthulhu Mythos. Here you will discover Victorian Britain, the Wild West era United States, and many other varied locations filled with anachronistic and sometimes alien technology, airships, submersibles and Babbage engines. But the Victorian era here is not only one of innovation and exploration, but of destruction and dread…
My contribution, “Mr. Brass and the City of Devils” sees Mr. Brass, the American Automaton, engaged in a hunt for criminal cult leader Enoch Bowen which leads him to a certain Nameless City… Steampunk Cthulhu is available for pre-order via Chaosium and Amazon.com. It’s due to be released in mid-June.

COVER ART SNEAK PEEK
Emby Press has released a sneak peek of the cover art for The Jade Suit of Death, the follow up to my 2013 novel, The Whitechapel Demon. For a look at the demonically delightful cover art, and a brief blurb, read on.
And here’s the blurb:
Formed during the reign of Elizabeth I, the post of the Royal Occultist was created to safeguard the British Empire against threats occult, otherworldly, infernal and divine.
It is now 1920, and the title and offices have fallen to Charles St. Cyprian. Accompanied by his apprentice Ebe Gallowglass, they defend the battered empire from the forces of darkness.
Evil prowls the docks of Limehouse and a priceless artifact is stolen. St. Cyprian is contacted by an old acquaintance to find it, but what he and Gallowglass discover is far more than anyone bargained for.
London’s most notorious occultists gather in secret as St. Cyprian and Gallowglass battle assassins, elementals and a demon older than mankind. But that is nothing compared to what awaits them when a thousands-year-old spirit is released to unleash a plague that will feast upon humanity…
In the tradition of William Hope Hodgson’s Carnacki the Ghost-Finder, Josh Reynolds presents the Adventures of the Royal Occultist. Join St. Cyprian and Gallowglass as they race to solve the deadly mystery of THE JADE SUIT OF DEATH!
Sounds pretty great, right? In my humble opinion, The Jade Suit… really ups the ante for St. Cyprian and Gallowglass, introducing new allies as well as new enemies, and throws in some harrowing implications for everyone’s favorite Royal Occultist and his plucky (yet murderous) assistant. If The Whitechapel Demon was a monster-of-the-week episode, then The Jade Suit of Death is part of the myth arc.
Why yes, the series does, in fact, have a myth arc. And oh buddy, is it a good one.

MONSTER HUNTER: BLOOD TRAILS NOW AVAILABLE
Emby Press‘ newest anthology, Monster Hunter: Blood Trails, is now available for the Kindle. Edited by Miles Boothe, it includes stories by authors such as Amanda Roberts, John M. Whalen and myself.
My contribution, “Hochmuller’s Hound”, sees the Royal Occultist, Thomas Carnacki, and his assistant, Charles St. Cyprian, face off against the monstrous Hound of Mons in the opening months of the Great War.
If the above description doesn’t clue you in, “Hochmuller’s Hound” is something of a prequel to the Royal Occultist series as it stands. If you’re interested in knowing where it falls in the sequence, check out this handy-dandy Royal Occultist Chronology.

SONG OF THE SATYRS NOW AVAILABLE
Song of the Satyrs, the newest anthology from Angelic Knight Press, is now available for the Kindle and in print. Edited by Aaron J. French, the anthology includes stories by authors such as WH Pugmire and Mark Valentine, as well as myself.
My contribution, “The Briggs Hill Path”, sees occult investigator Harley Warren and his assistant Randolph Carter, confront a monstrous, satyr-like manifestation of a certain black goat of the woods. The story had several sources of inspiration: the songs “Six Gun Gorgon Dynamo” by the Darkest of the Hillside Thickets and “Daughter of the Glade” by SJ Tucker, and ‘The Howler’, part of HP Lovecraft’s sonnet cycle, “Fungi from Yuggoth”.
And if you’ve been paying attention, you might have noticed that this’ll make Warren and Carter’s fourth outing by me. If you’d like to read the stories in something approaching chronological order, it goes thusways: “The Savage Dreamer”, “The Briggs Hill Path”, “Dead Man’s Tongue” and “The Bells of Northam”.

THE VRIL AGENDA NOW AVAILABLE
Some time ago, my friend and fellow raconteur Derrick Ferguson and I sat down to write a book together. You might recall Derrick talking about that over at his site. If not, you really should. It’s a good story. The book is also good, and, even better, it’s now available for you to buy, courtesy of Airship 27 and Pulpwork Press. The press release is below.
TWO LEGENDARY HEROES
COME TOGETHER TO DEFEAT
THE VRIL AGENDA
Airship 27 Productions & Pulp Work Press join forces for the very first time to announce the release of THE VRIL AGENDA, a fantastic, action packed pulp adventure by two of the finest writers in the New Pulp field, Joshua Reynolds and Derrick Ferguson.
Upon completing his training with the Warmasters of Shamballah, Dillon journeys back to America to begin the next phase of his training under tutelage of one of the greatest adventurers of all time, Jim Anthony – The Super Detective. But no sooner do they meet then one of Anthony’s most dangerous villains resurface from his past to once again threaten mankind, the superhuman Sun Koh – Prince of Atlantis.
Now the old warrior and his young student, aided by Anthony’s loyal family and allies, will take on this new threat, pitting their lives against powerful adversaries. From New York to Berlin and then on to a hidden civilization at the bottom of the world, the Super Detective and his two-fisted protégé must stop the fiendish Sun Koh before he can unlock the ages old secret of the Vril power.
“I’ve been a huge fan of Derrick’s Dillon from day one,” reports Airship 27 Managing Editor, Ron Fortier. “And of course Josh has done several Jim Anthony projects for us including a full length novel. So when they first proposed this team-up book, I was thrilled beyond words.”
Noted fantasy author, Charles Saunders, creator of the Imaro series, calls The Vril Agenda, “…a remarkable achievement.”
The book features interior illustrations by award winning artist Rob Davis, with a stunning, dynamic cover painting by Adam Shaw; his first work for Airship 27 Productions.
Writers Josh Reynold and Derrick Ferguson have whipped up a frenetically paced tale that never lets up for second, masterfully delivering old fashion pulp action in what is sure to become a New Pulp Classic!

THE DARK RITES OF CTHULHU
This week sees the release of April Moon Books freshman anthology, The Dark Rites of Cthulhu. Ably edited by Brian M. Sammons, and including authors such as William Meikle, Peter Rawlik, Dark Rites is a fantastic selection of stories of depravity, sorcery and madness. My contribution, “Dead Man’s Tongue”, includes all three!
From the blurb:
My story, “Dead Man’s Tongue”, sees the sinister Carolina mystic Harley Warren and the unfortunate dream-quester Randolph Carter investigating a locked room murder mystery centering around two corpses and an ancient Tibetan ritual. I’ve included an excerpt below, to whet your appetite for the horrors to come…
“Does he look like he’s been throttled to you?”
“Which—ah—which one are you referring to?” Carter asked. He plucked a handkerchief from his coat pocket and pressed it to his mouth and nose as he leaned over Warren and into the room. There were, as Warren had said, two bodies occupying the small square of space, one on the bed, and the other on the floor. The one on the floor was bad enough. He’d seen similar looking examples of mortality in the trenches of France; the dead man’s face was twisted in an expression of horror, his eyes bulging and his tongue sticking out of his mouth.
But it was the body on the bed that drew most of Carter’s disgust, and not a little worry. It was a shrivelled thing, it’s dried and cracked flesh was shrunken tight to its bones and its body was curled into a loose ball. It was nude, so far as Carter could see, and he could tell that it stunk strongly of strange spices and exotic unguents, even from a distance. There were rags and shreds of what looked like brown, decaying linens scattered over the bed and the floor, as well as on the body of the dead man.
For a moment, he fancied that it had moved, ever so slightly, when he leaned in. He heard nothing, saw nothing, but even so, he felt it. And he froze, the way a mouse might freeze, when it feels a snake watching it.
“The one that don’t look like jerky,” Warren said…
The anthology is available via Amazon and its international subsidiaries in both print and electronic format. Grab your copy today!
