Poll: 71% believe mass shootings are now just a normal part of American life

mostlysignssomeportents:

A new national NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll found that a whopping 71% of Americans surveyed believe the many shootings and other acts of mass violence in we’ve seen in 2015 are now a permanent part of life in our country.

I think that’s more terrifying than anything Muslim extremists have managed so far.

I love how they respond to him, as if he is actually a captain, even more.

Nasa confirmed for huge fucking nerds

This is awesome and priceless and people that work on space stuff are the best people of all time.

Honestly this just about brings me to tears.

Roddenberry, Shatner, Nimoy, Nichols and all the rest of the original Star Trek cast and crew had no small role in making the moon landing as important as it was.  A few years before they set that lunar module down, this little TV show came along and fanned the dream into wildfire with an image of what humanity in space could actually look like—not only peaceful on our own world, endlessly curious, and prosperous enough to pursue it, but an active force for good in the greater universe.  Carrying not what’s most toxic about us, but what’s best about us out to the stars.

Everybody who has worked at NASA or any other space agency for the past 50 years is waiting for the day when that unmanned probe doing a flyby on a comet can be controlled from the bridge of a space-faring vessel.  When we’re not just looking at that comet through a color-coded sonar map, but we can look out a porthole and see it tumbling by with our own eyes.  When as a species we can finally outgrow hate and fear and violence, and turn our faces with joy toward all the beauties and wonders that lie waiting to be discovered.

And every time he does this, Shatner is reminding them of what that hope feels like.

This was too great to not repost.

For two, or maybe three, generations of space scientists and astrophysicists he is one of the reasons they are there, exploring strange new worlds, seeking new life, and new civilisations, he gave them the damn orders, they should at least call him Captain, if not Admiral!

queenanunnaki:

“I think most dramatic are the physical marks on people’s bodies after these experiences. They fall into various types, but one very common one is what we call a scoop mark, which is a little round depression about the size of my thumb nail or a little smaller. As if a little—some sort of object or some sort of tool has just removed a layer of cells.

Another type is just a straight like surgical cut that can be any where from oh, a small inch or so, but down to maybe three and a half, four inches long. And there is very rarely any bleeding that results from these. And, another set of these marks can be simply large bruises, especially on the insides of the thighs, as if some kind of gynecological stirrups had been used or something of that sort. Again, if this happens during the night, the person goes to bed unmarked and wakes up with these various cuts or whatever I’ve described. And some of them are extremely dramatic in appearance.” -Budd Hopkins

sizzlesizzlemyshizzle:

This is the blue dragon sea slug, also known as Glaucus atlanticus.

Not only is the blue dragon immune to its sting, it’s able to process the Man o’ War’s nematocysts, the cells that allow for that creature’s deadly sting, and store them in its own extremities.

Those venomous cells can be used by the blue dragon later on, and in a higher concentration, making their sting even more deadly.

@sixpenceee

Another weird sea creature for the collection.
