archiemcphee:

If we had to learn our ABCs all over again we’d do it using this awesome Bestiary Alphabetum by Michigan-based concept artist and illustrator Nathan Anderson. Each letter of the alphabet has been paired with a corresponding mythological creature. A is for Ammit and and everything in between is equally fantastic and beautifully illustrated.

nathanandersonart:

They’re all here! I took it upon myself to create an illustration of a Mythological creature or character for every letter of the alphabet, trying to span across a multitude of cultures and creature-types. Another thing I wanted to accomplish with this project was to find some the more unusual and/or obscure creatures that don’t get as much representation in artwork. Individual Tumblr Posts with said creatures’ descriptions are below.

Again, I’ll be making this into a small run of books as a way to test the waters. If there’s more demand for a larger run, I’ll definitely be looking into it!

All REBLOGS are appreciated!

Blobtastic ferrofluid display

mostlysignssomeportents:

Ferrolic is a prototype ferrofluid display that draws blobby, weird,

awesome imprecise bitmaps by manipulating magnetic particles suspended

in liquid.

Designer Zelf Koelman is selling 24 early versions for €7500 each (more

if you go for extras), and plans to use the proceeds to fund further

development of the display.

Another way to present the 9 types of intelligence as exemplified by my How Do We Measure Intelligence post.

The basic idea is that different people are good at different things. These 9 probably don’t cover the wide range of smarts we all possess, but it’s a start.

As Albert Einstein said, "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.”

Definitely missing Emotional Intelligence, deductive intelligence, inductive intelligence, academic intelligence and common sense…

Why does everyone miss common sense?

Bionic Bird: a cat-foolin’, smartphone-controlled ornithopter

mostlysignssomeportents:

Kyosho’s $150 Bionic Bird is a smartphone-controlled ornithopter that is birdlike enough to fool a cat (or at least, the cat is pretending to be fooled).

The Red Ferret review says that the bird’s controls are “very sensitive and easy to use…like you’re directing the bird with your bare hands.”

It’s cute that the charge-station is an egg that the “bird” perches on, and the manufacturer claims it’s the only drone that doesn’t frighten animals.
