"May I have this dance?"

Kelly turned at the sound of Jonah's voice behind her. Dinner had ended. All three of the boys had given best man speeches and Eve had even given a very creditable matron of honor speech, considering she had only known Marilyn and Caleb a short time. Lots of toasts had been raised and finally the live band had struck up the music. Caleb led his bride onto the floor for a foxtrot—a dance more than half of the guests had no idea how to do, including her.

Facing Jonah she sighed inwardly at how scrumptious he looked. Sure, his face was pretty much displayed on his brothers' heads, too, but there was something different about Jonah. His nose was just a little crooked from when Bobby Hendricks had broken it in ninth grade and his eyes held an especially bright sparkle when he smiled. Maybe… Well, she didn't know what caused the difference between Jonah and his brothers. Whatever it was, she had never been fooled by the so-called identical nature of the identical triplets. She'd wanted to be his girl since elementary school. Thought she would be in high school. And then she’d forced every last thought of him from her mind from senior year on.

Until now.

"I don't know how to foxtrot."

He shrugged. "Who does except those over fifty?" He glanced at his folks, still alone on the dancefloor, although a few couples were wandering out to join them now. "We can pretend."

She mentally compared standing on the sidelines alone now that Mama Rio left the party, or being held in Jonah's arms. Smiling, Kelly held out her hands. "Just don't step on my toes, Jonah Goodman, or there'll be hell to pay."

"Yes, ma'am." Together they walked onto the dancefloor. He took her right hand in his left and placed his right hand on her waist. Fortunately for them, the music changed to a slow tempo. Kelly laid her head on Jonah's shoulder, and he tugged her closer as they swayed to the music.

"This is nice," he murmured.

"Yes it is," she replied. So very nice. He smelled good. Beneath the light citrus fragrance of his aftershave was a slight whiff of pure man with maybe a twinge of motor oil or something so Jonah it brought tears to her eyes.

He rubbed a path up to her shoulder blades and gave a squeeze. "You fit me perfectly, Kelly."

"I do?"

"You sure do. I think our hearts can feel each other beat."

Kelly chuckled. "Smooth talker. Face to face like this our hearts are on opposite sides."

"Hey! I'm trying to be romantic here."

She sighed. "Keep on. It's appreciated."

"You smell…good."

She felt his smile. Raising her head she gave him a mock glare. "Watch it with those pregnant pauses, buster."

He used his hand to press her head back to his shoulder. "You do smell good, though. This isn't the same perfume you wore in high school. That was—"

"Lilac," they said at the same time. Once more she raised her head to look at him. "How did you remember that?"

"I remember much more than you might think." He turned her and moved her closer to the door onto the patio. "Each spring when lilacs are in bloom memories come flooding back. Does that surprise you?"

"More like shocks me," she said, grinning. And then she laid her head on his shoulder once more, finding she liked it more and more there in his arms. She stepped slightly closer and his arm tightened about her.

"Well, after a while I thought lilac seemed too girlish. I like the vintage scents, so in college I wore Wind Song. Then Shalimar was the scent Brad liked me to wear." She felt Jonah stiffen when she mentioned her ex, and really she didn't blame him. "But when I grew up enough finally to take charge of my own life, I started wearing Chanel No 5. A complex fragrance for what I hope is a complex woman."

"It suits you. Complex and beautiful." He kissed her temple. "Want to step outside for a minute?"

"Sure. It is a little warm in here."

On the patio, they could hear the sounds of the people from the television networks packing up equipment, chatting and laughing. Stars shone brightly in the clear night sky. Wood smoke from someone's fireplace wafted through the air and static electricity fairly crackled in the crispness of the autumn air.

"This is my favorite time of year," Kelly said. "The heat of summer is gone and winter nights curled up with a hot drink and blazing fire are ahead."

"Not me. I'm a summer boy all the way."

"A hothead you mean?" she teased.

"Oh, I'm hot all right." He waggled his brows at her. Kelly laughed.

"I do seem to remember that about you."

"You used to be pretty hot yourself. Still are." He leaned in. His eyes flicked down to her lips. Kelly sucked in a breath. She should stop him, she really should.

As soon as she breached the threshold of the main room, loud moans resonated through the music, and the meaning of the sign on the door to the basement entrance became clear. They were at a swinger’s party. There were only about fifteen to twenty other people in the room besides her and her husbands, and many of them were in various stages of undress. A table close to the entrance held a large bowl of condoms and a collection of sex toys. A mattress on the floor made-up with red silk sheets and lots of pillows served as a hotbed of sexual activity. Trisha’s first instinct was to grab her men and run out of there but curiosity and her desire not to look like an idiot who lives with two men but bolts like a frightened rabbit at the first sign of an erotic display, kept her feet planted.

“The bar is over there.” Sophie pointed out the obvious. “We have draft beer and bottles, wine or the bartender can make you a cocktail if you prefer. He’s a member too.”

“Here.” Trisha looked around with wide eyes as she absently held up the bag containing the bottle of wine. “This is for you.”

“How sweet! Thank you.” Sophie accepted the gift. “I want to introduce you to some of my friends.” The redhead turned her attention to Trisha’s husbands, who were practically cowering by the condom bowl. “You guys can mingle a minute, right. I’m going to steal her for a bit. Have fun!”

As she allowed the mother of her daughter’s friend to drag her along, Trisha tossed a look back at Ken and Thomas she hoped they’d recognize as: Don’t you dare.

Sophie brought her over to a round table where a candle burning in the middle added some extra visibility, illuminating the faces of the two women seated there. One of the ladies, a tall, middle-aged brunette sat sideways, showing off her long, shapely legs as she crossed one over the other. She had a great body, but her countenance suffered due to the pucker lines around her mouth and her pronounced crow’s feet. Trisha couldn’t place her, but she recognized her from somewhere.

“Do you have a kid at East Elementary?” The woman asked before Sophie got around to introducing them, being too busy retrieving a corkscrew to open the wine Trisha brought.

Trisha could feel her cheeks growing warm and red. The last thing Trisha wanted to do was discuss her kids at a sex party. “Why?”

“Sherry, ixnay on the ids-a,” The other dark-haired woman at the table tried her hand at pig Latin, “You know the rules—no talk of the little ones. It kills the mood.”

“Sorry, I know. It’s just, you look familiar. I’m the cafeteria manager there.” Sherry looked Trisha up and down as she spoke, her eyes lingering on her breasts. Trisha smiled and nodded at the woman’s explanation without commenting on her own family.

“Now don’t go frightening my girl away, Sherry.” Sophie chuckled as she slipped a necklace of red beds around Trisha’s neck. “Red means stop. No one will go after you until you take them off.” After placing an arm around Trisha, Sophie rubbed her hip. Trisha tensed, her tummy turning a flip.

“This beauty is Trisha, and both of those two hotties over there are hers.” Sophie’s thick eyebrows lifted way up on her forehead as she gestured to Ken and Thomas at the bar.

A dark-haired woman whistled in admiration. She was an exotic-looking beauty, likely Hispanic, with a tan skin tone and big, brown eyes. Her features were perfectly spaced with high cheekbones and full lips. Her unbuttoned blouse revealed a red, lace bra, and her messy hair radiated an aura screaming she’d recently been fucked.

“I’m Regina.” The beautiful lady held Trisha in her gaze as Sophie filled her glass with her free hand. Trisha extended her hand and her new acquaintance shook it firmly.

“Regina’s a personal trainer.” Sophie’s voice resonated in Trisha’s ear as she waited for Regina to let go of her. “Her boyfriend is my husband’s law partner.” Regina began to caress Trisha’s fingers with her thumb.

“So how does it work? Do you alternate nights or does one of them travel a lot?” Sherry jumped right in with the invasive questions, ready to settle her curiosity.

“Um, well,” Trisha removed her hand from Regina’s grasp as she attempted to control her nerves while adjusting to the uncomfortable situation. The blunt question had thrown her off guard. Just breath. Just breath. What do you care? You’re not ashamed. She took a deep breath, clutching her hands together. “Tommy travels quite a bit, but it’s not like that.”

“Well…how is it?” Sherry leaned forward her irises fully visible as she fixed her attention on Trisha while biting down on her bottom lip. Trisha glanced at Sophie for help, but judging by her expression, she was dying to know as well.

“You can’t leave,” he objected.

I sighed. “Why does it matter so much?”

“You know you mean a lot to me, Paige.” Benjamin ‘Ben’ Beckett ran his hand through his silver-toned hair.

“My body is important to you, nothing more than that. My father left me their old house in Riverbend. I’m going to turn it into a bed and breakfast. This law shit has never been for me, I’m not lawyer material.” I faced the window.

The sun had begun to hide behind the horizon, painting the sky in shades of pink, purple, orange and blue. The end-of-the-workday whiskey I sipped burned a path down my throat into my empty stomach.

Ben grabbed me, spun me around and deposited my ass onto my desk.

“What the fuck?” I sputtered.

He pulled my skirt up my thighs and stepped between my legs.

I opened my mouth to object to the rough handling but stopped when our gazes collided. Heat smoldered deep in the depths of his blue eyes. “Look,” I said finally. “We had a lot of fun with each other, a lot of great sex. But you knew that was all it could ever be…just sex.”

Who was I kidding? I’d been head over heels in love with the man for three years, but we could never be more than what we were. I wasn’t lawyer material. I never would be. Staying on with the company after my father had passed wasn’t in the cards and I’d known for the last two and a half years that I wouldn’t stay here.

The blue of his eyes deepened in color, something I couldn’t read reflecting back at me. Lust pooled low in my belly, sending a wave of liquid heat through my core, dampening my panties. “What?” I finally questioned when I found my voice.

“Is that all I am to you, Paige? A good fuck?” He grasped my hand and placed it over his erection. “See what you do to me?”

“No, Ben. You aren’t just a ‘fuck’, as you so eloquently put it. But it can’t be more than that. It can’t.” I shrugged my shoulders.

He glared at me before crushing my body against his. “Fuck it.” He captured my lips, robbing my mind of sanity. My blood whooshed in my ears as passion flared to life. “Let me have you one last time.”

“Yes. Come to my place tonight,” I murmured between kisses.

Stepping back, he allowed me to slide off the desk and readjust my skirt.

“See you later,” I said over my shoulder.

With that, I walked away, fighting the urge to run. What have I done? I’d just invited the hottest man I’d ever known to my place this evening for what I hoped would be a marathon of sex.

I entered the ladies’ room, moved to the sink and stared at my reflection in the mirror. My doe-round blue gaze stared back, my pupils dilated. Pink flushed my pale cheeks. My chest rose and fell as my breaths came rushed.

My appearance matched my mood…horny.

I live close to the Maryland border in South Central Pennsylvania. My husband is wonderfully supportive of me in all aspects of my life. I have a son who is currently serving our country in the U.S. Navy. My daughter is still in school. I’m blessed to have the three of them in my life.

From a young age, I remember burying my nose in a book. A love that my mother and father passed onto my brother and myself. From my passion for reading sprang my love of writing. My mind is so often full of story ideas from the wildly paranormal to contemporary. I have notebooks lying about with story outlines and character descriptions. A song or TV show can spark an idea which circles my mind until I put the idea on paper.
