February 2013 Marvel Drunk Cover Solicits In Three Sentences Or Less…
Here are the “rules“.
If you’d like to see the full Marvel February Cover Solicits head on over to CBR.
Honestly, yet again these are more good than bad, and thus, not particularly funny…but I’ll try my best.
AVENGERS ARENA 4 RUBIO VARIANT. Well now, this is a good damn start. What a great and unexpected cover! Full of energy and emotion, plus great composition, and a cool desaturated color palette. I’m all over this.
AVENGERS ARENA 4. And this is awesome too. I love the style and the word choice...

2012 Wrap Up!

Image from THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING hardcover illustrated edition. Illustration by Stephanie Hans
So I already gave you guys some DC Drunk Solicits to help ring in the New Year (look for Marvel to show up on January 1st – it’s the way to start the year off right! Or at least help you nurse that hangover).
I also already gave you my comics Best and Worsts for 2012 over on She Has No Head!
And I promised to stop ignoring the blog…so what else is there to say?
Well, I’d love to give some love to a...

ACTION COMICS 17. Ick. Off to a rocky start. Is this the cover of a book or a really shitty interior page that makes no sense? Also, while I hate Supes new costume it still beats the hell out of the t-shirt and jeans. And is one of those panels a close up on a fucking knee patch? WTF?
ALL-STAR WESTERN 17. The desaturation on this one is great. Composition is nice too, great positive and negative s...
She Has No Head! – Best (and a few worsts) of 2012!
A new She Has No Head! is up. That’s right, kids, it’s my “Bests (and a few worsts) of 2012″
Head on over to check it out. And here’s a hint…it’s Hawkeye/Saga-rific!

The Triumphant Return of 1979 Semi-Finalist?
So, apologies are in order for how dark the blog has been. There has been a ton going on for me, both good and bad, though in general I have to say that December was a hell of a good month – as I got all the Kickstarter packages out (a herculean task), picked up a wonderful new agent, got back great notes for my new book (unrelated to TGWWBK), have had strong sales for TGWWBK both via Amazon (etc.) and on my own store, have gotten AMAZING feedback on TGWWBK (and what comes next – hint hint!),...
The Girl Who Would Be King Fan Art…submit yours now!

Lola and Bonnie by Emily Carroll
I’ve finally got the The Girl Who Would Be King FAN ART section up on the website.
There are a few awesome pieces up already thanks to the brilliant Emily Carroll, a pair of sketches I commissioned from Kaylie McDougal, and absolutely awesome reader Rachael Stephen (@mythicflux).
As a comic fan I’m also a huge fan of seeing artist interpretations of characters, so I encourage any of you that read and liked the book to send in your submissions.
You can submit direc...

The Girl Who Would Be King Store is OPEN!

Bonnie vs Lola #2 by Stephanie Hans
Head on over to THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING STORE to get limited edition signed copies of the illustrated book, and plenty of swag including “the blue envelope” and VERY limited edition signed prints.
You can also buy the paperback on either Amazon or Lulu (for what it’s worth the Lulu copy is slightly superior in my opinion – even though the jpg color is off on the site).
And of course the digital copy remains on sale at Amazon (for the crazy low price of $2.9...

Why Superhero Prose?

Photo by Eric Smith via Eric Smith Rocks Blog
So why write about superheroes as prose when they’re so visual?
Those who were familiar with me before I published THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING are less curious since they know about my love of comics, and superheroes specifically. They also know I crave strong and complicated women in my fiction, I can’t get enough of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, and love nothing more than sassy chicks that kick a lot of ass (hence, Buffy!), but even those familiar with...

Nano 2012 Scrapped. Aww.
So some things are going on with my job – hello unemployment – and so I need to concentrate on the revision my current project needs, instead of getting another one done. Thus, with a heavy heart, I have to stop with Pariahs and move back to this project, getting it finished up so I can start trying to proactively get a new agent.
Also, for those of you that got TGWWBK packages at the $50 and up level (or will be getting them soon) you know thanks to the secret blue envelope that I’ve got a l...

Nano 2012 – Day 12
So. I think I just have to accept that I’m not going to get the daily counts I need on this project until I’ve finished the mailings for TGWWBK. Which is fair. So I’m going to put less pressure on myself and focus on getting through. I’m hoping to mail everything for TGWWBK (except a few stragglers I’m sure) before the Thanksgiving holiday, so I guess I’ll just try to push through on word count over the Thanksgiving holiday and hope I can make it. Still going to do the daily word count, and s...
