Humble In Victory Gracious In Defeat

Never too high, never too low.

My new book They Play Hockey In Heaven has been out for over a month and has been met with great response. A BIG thank you to everyone that bought a copy and read the story. Your interest means the world to me. The rejection letters and emails continue to come in. Here’s a (nice) one hot off the press.

Read the first chapter of They Play Hockey In Heaven Here

“The great mistake is to anticipate the outcome of the engagement; you ought not be thinking of whether it ends in victory or in defeat. Let nature take its course, and your tools will strike at the right moment.”

- Bruce Lee

The Place Beyond The Pines

“Love is the ultimate outlaw. It just won’t adhere to any rules. The most any of us can do is sign on as its accomplice. ” – Tom Robbins

The Last Trees In The Salton Sea

“The essence of being human is that one does not seek perfection, that one is sometimes willing to commit sins for the sake of loyalty, that one does not push asceticism to the point where it makes friendly intercourse impossible, and that one is prepared in the end to be defeated and broken up by life, which is the inevitable price of fastening one’s love upon other human individuals.”

They Play Hockey In Heaven – Book Cover

THANK YOU to everyone who bought and supported my first published work Defenseless. I am so lucky to have such amazing friends and family. Defenseless was a dream realized. I received one special note from someone who had gone through a similar experience to that of the narrator and he said my story helped him through a tough recovery. I didn’t know and had never met this person.  I remember it sinking in at that moment that I had achieved what I wanted. I remember thinking in that instant that the work was worth it. That was success, connection.

I have chosen a less conventional path with my second work They Play Hockey In Heaven which set to be out at the beginning of March.  I am going to publish and distribute the book on my own.  I have decided on this for a number of reasons but the two biggest are creative control and time. I don’t want to wait on any more responses. I want to share it. I hope you like it.

Legendary Canadian musician Tom Cochrane read it and had this to say about it, “I read your book and was extremely moved, inspired and impressed. I am flattered that you used Big League quotes as an intro to each chapter. It should be a must read for any Canadian who is truly connected to their cultural roots in our country.” I don’t know how to get a better endorsement than that.

Here is the cover done by my great friend Jason Altilia.

Dear Oscar

“Myths and legends die hard… We love them for the extra dimension they provide, the illusion of near-infinite possibility to erase the narrow confines of most men’s reality. Weird heroes and mould-breaking champions exist as living proof to those who need it that the tyranny of  “the rat race” is not yet final.” – Hunter S. Thompson

Walk on through the wind

Walk on through the rain

Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart

And you’ll never walk alone
You’ll never walk alone.
