Have You Googled Yourself? (or the Idiots Guide to How SEO Tags Work)
Go Google Yourself! :)
One of the best ways to determine how large of a web presence you have is to Google your name. Take a second and do it….Done?
What did you see? How many times does your name come up on the first page? If you’re connected to the major social networking platforms –Facebook, Twitter- or have a fairly active blog that receives views with content people comment on, then you should see your website listed, too.
For example, Google ‘M.J. Kane’ and this is what you get:
M.J. Kane- Stay at home mom turned Bestseller….authormjkanebooks.wordpress.com (my old website)
This Writer’s Life…thiswriterslife-mjkane.blogspot (my very first website)
M.J.Kane (Author of A Heart Not Easily Broken)- Goodreads Author page
Amazon.com: M.J.Kane: Books, Biography,Blog – Amazon Author Profile
M.j. Kane- Facebook account
M.J. Kane Books- Facebook Author Page
M.J. Kane (MJKaneBooks) on Twitter
The Butterfly Memoirs – thebutterflymemoirs.blogspot.com (website/blog dedicated to The Butterfly Memoirs Series, haven’t used that since 2013! All post have been linked to my new site, mjkanemedia.com)
M.J. Kane- AUTHORSdB – Authors Data Base profile page
Nine out of ten results were linked to me…and that was page one. Check each page after that and you will find something about M.J. Kane (including several businesses and another person who isn’t an author) until you reach page fourteen. Whew! But how did I get there and better yet, how can YOU get there?
The Importance of Tags.
If you have a Twitter or Instagram account, chances are you use hashtags to draw attention to what you’ve shared. How does it work? If you check Twitters home page, you’ll see the ever changing trending hashtags for the day. If your tweet has one of those tags (with relevant content) viewers who search that hashtag on Twitter will likely run across your tweet, retweet it, favor it, or comment on it, or follow you, which of course is one way to build Twitter followers.
The same can be said for major search engine sites…accept hashtags and tags are completely different.
Did you know….
#Hashtags: a word or un-spaced phrase prefixed with the hashtag symbol. – Wikipedia- click for more information
SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Tag : The process of getting traffic from the free, organic, editorial, or natural listings on search engines. – Search Engine Land –click for more information
In the world blogging, those who tag are king. Tagging, or imputing key words that describe the content of your blog post, make it easier for readers to find it. Search engines such as Google, Bing, and Yahoo use SEO to find articles that relate to the key words put into the search bar. Thus the reason why ‘M.J. Kane’, when entered into a search engine, will pull up anything it can find that has the tag, ‘M.J.Kane.’
How to make Tags Work for You
It’s simple. If you blog, before hitting the post button, search out the feature that allows you to impute key tag words regarding the subject matter for your post. Review the content of your post and select major keywords to use as your tag. For example, think of what key words you would type into the search engine to find the results you are looking for. For this post, I will use the key words: M.J. Kane, Blogging, Tag Words, Hash Tags, SEO, Google, Search Engines. When you found this blog (unless you’re here because you subscribe to my website), did it happen because you had typed any of those key words into the search bar? If so, then my use of tagging was a success!
Other Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Site
Other useful ways of driving traffic to your website come from the simple use of share buttons. Have you ever read an article and wanted to share it on your social networking sites? Have you looked for the ever familiar Facebook, Tweet, or Pinterest button, but have come up empty because the website owner has not installed it? I have, and I hate it. It’s one thing to discover useful information, and another to have to work hard to share it. We live in an age of one-click lovers. We want it now, we’ll share it now, and if it takes more than a minute, you’re screwed. So, if you want your blog visitors to push your website, you must have those sharing options in place. Every post, share, tweet, and pin done by unique blog visitors (other than yourself) will push your content up higher in search engines.
So, now that you’ve been armed with this information, GO TAG YOURSELF!

#8Sunday Sample: New Release!!!! LONELY HEART (Book 3 of The Butterfly Memoirs) –Antonio’s Dreams…
This week’s #8SundaySample introduces you to a new character voice in Lonely Heart, the hero, Antonio Rodriguez. You had a chance to meet him through Kaitlyn’s POV when she took her car to the shop. Now, get to know the man…
Excerpt:
My cousins had no clue what type of goldmine their family owned. Some people looked down at auto mechanics…until their car broke down. No matter how much money you made, eventually your car needed to be serviced.
I made it a point from a young age to learn everything my uncle would teach me about cars. While my cousins played the latest video games, I made two dollars an hour sweeping up the shop and organizing tools. Many days after school and summer vacations were spent getting a free education.
I graduated high school, then earned my master mechanic’s license. Working for my uncle was satisfying, but I wanted a shop of my own.

When Kaitlyn’s car breaks down, though, Antonio goes beyond auto repairs to take care of her needs. An unexpected friendship begins, allowing them a glimpse of happiness…until the father of Kaitlyn’s child returns, ready to offer her marriage and a future. But at what cost?

#GuestPost: What to Look for in a Publisher…Tips from Author Yvette Allen Tatum
There are many ways to have your novel published. Today, Yvetter Allen Tatum, author of I Didn’t Know drops by This Writer’s Life during her Virtual Blog Tour to share some tips on what to look for when searching for a publisher.
****
What to Look for in a Publisher…
Key Ingredients:
Find a publisher that fits your budget – begin by doing your research. Check with friends and/or colleagues in the industry to find out pricing and available amenities offered in publishing packages by a variety of publishers they have worked with before and who they are working with now. Check out industry statistics via research on Yahoo, Google or Bing about industry trends. This will help you to establish some pricing benchmarks and from there you need to determine how much you want to spend (your budget). Now that you know the affordability, what publishing options are important to you? By doing your research ahead of time you will also become acquainted with the industry lingo so that you can “talk shop” intelligently.
Find a publisher that can capture your vision – “Where there is no vision the people perish,” (Proverbs 29:18). You must have a vision for your project. Moreover, you have to: (1) believe in your vision. You want to avoid anyone trying to talk you out of your vision; never let anyone sell you or your vision short; and (2) be able to clearly articulate your vision. Ask yourself, who can sell your vision better than you? The answer should be no one! If the publisher can get on board with your dreams and visions and be able to communicate them back to you, then they have captured your vision and can flow with you in turning your project (dream) into a reality. Moreover, a good publisher should be able to “enhance” your vision or provoke your vision by causing you to see or think of things you might not have. Again, this is because this is their area of expertise. If they cannot “add value,” then they probably are not the right publisher for you.
Find a publisher who can offer you world-wide distribution – from conception to print “distribution” is everything. Some book stores will not offer your book for sale because they do not want the risk of offering shelf space to an unknown author. However, if you are connected to a large or world-wide distributor, some or all the following may be available to you:
Availability – guaranteed availability of your book; very important to retailers and your potential customers (fans).
Buy-backs – guaranteed buy-back of all unsold books; another important feature for retailers.
Connections – a world-wide distributor already has established relationships with large chain retailers so your book(s) potentially get in front of more people, as opposed to just being showcased in your local non-chain book store(s).
Marketing/Promotions – a world-wide distributor has cost advantages (economies of scale) due to the size and scale of their operations and therefore, can market and promote your product on a much larger scale than you can/could potentially do for yourself.
Find a publisher who offers additional amenities – besides publishing your book, what other services are available to you? Does the publisher offer “grooming” services to aid you in preparing you to sell yourself? Even if your publisher does not offer these services they should be able to direct you in the right place for these connections. For example, public speaking classes, how to develop a sound public relations campaign, how to put together a portfolio or press kit, just to mention a few.

“I Didn’t Know” is for more than just an audience of one. If you look to your left, look to your right, or directly in the mirror, you will see or know someone who has been sexually abused… even if you look in the mirror, and the person is YOU! More than the tragedy of sexual abuse is the tragedy of the silence of sexual abuse. It must be talked about. Our stories have to be shared; someone’s life is literally depending upon YOU to BREAK THE IGNORANCE OF SILENCE! “I Didn’t Know” brings to the forefront the many hidden faces of child sexual abuse. The author, Yvette L. Allen-Tatum, shares not only her story, but the compelling testimonies of others–everyone from the actual victim, to the offender, to those who standby by in disbelief and allow these heinous crimes against our children to continue. Our voices have to be heard, our children must be free or freed to tell the TRUTH: that someone touched them. Who can they run to? Will it be you?
About the Author:
Author, Teacher, Conference Host, Public Speaker, Encourager, Motivator, Ordained & licensed Minister of The Gospel, Radical for Christ, undercover Comedian and the list goes on…
Yvette is a graduate of Grace Christian College where she earned her Masters of Divinity and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology. She is also a graduate of University of Richmond, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Concentration in Finance and a Minor in Leadership Studies. In addition, she has 30 plus years of experience in income tax preparation and bookkeeping.
As the Founder of Surrounded by Faith Ministries, Yvette has had the opportunity to touch and transform the lives of many women with the Word of God. This mighty Woman of God has a prophetic teaching anointing which has enabled her to cross many boundaries. As such, the Call of God on her life has broadened from transforming the lives of women to transforming LIVES with the Word of God. While she still holds a passion to train and equip women in the life study and application of the Bible, her ultimate goal is to strengthen families. To do so her platform is geared to men, women and children.
From The Author
I Didn’t Know – Identifying, Confronting & Overcoming Child Sexual Abuse – the title is indicative of the subject matter. In this book the author brings to the forefront the many faces of child sexual abuse; those of the victims and the abusers. Yvette Allen-Tatum boldly confronts her past of child sexual abuse to demonstrate that TRUE deliverance is possible. Yvette believes that we ALL (victims, abusers, enablers, nay-sayers, etc.) can OVERCOME the horrible effects of child sexual abuse.
This book proves that true healing is possible and necessary for us to become more than CONQUERORS through Christ Jesus.
As a community, we have to:
Identify Child Sexual Abuse –
We have to talk about it (raise public awareness)
Know the signs & symptoms
Confront Child Sexual Abuse –
Error on the side of caution – THE CHILD
Be quick to BELIEVE the victim and make all necessary inquiries
Studies show people are more apt to believe the innocence of the accused; this has to END
Overcome Child Sexual Abuse –
We overcome by the Blood of the Lamb and the WORD of OUR TESTIMONY

Tia Kelly’s Taste for Love Blog Tour Stops Here! And guess what? There’s Chocolate!
Hi MJ! Hello to all of MJ Kane’s awesome readers!
Before I get started… what did you all think of Lonely Heart? Loved it! I simply adored Antonio… *swoon*
Thanks MJ for inviting me so I can share what has me so excited these days. I just released my latest novel Taste for Love (and I’m pleased to announce it’s a romantic story). Taste for Love also continues the story about the Wilkerson family and touches on one theme, in particular – blended families.
In Taste for Love, we get to know Rochelle “Shelly” Gauthier even more. We caught a glimpse of her in Playing for Love and the view wasn’t always a pleasant one. In fact, Shelly managed to do some unthinkable – and potentially unforgivable – things. In hurting the ones she loved the most she also alienated her surrogate family. The Wilkersons took Shelly in after Hurricane Katrina, proving that sometimes family is about more than just blood.
Then we have Carlos Ortiz. Carlos, as Nia Forrester mentioned during the first Taste for Love Blog Tour stop, was an enigma in Playing for Love. His relationship with Paige Scott tested the one she had with Kenneth Wilkerson, but the one that was the core of their bond happened to be his role as a father to Paige’s daughter.
In each book, we meet a couple of families… and they are all blended ones. I was inspired to write about blended families after my own children inspired me. Of course we all wish to have a perfect, traditional household, but sometimes life throws us curveballs and things change. That’s what happened to us… and that’s what you’ll find sprinkled throughout the series.
Taste for Love takes us further into Shelly’s relationship with the Wilkersons and Carlos’s bond with Melody.
Here’s a little snippet from Taste for Love. I also encourage you to enter my Taste for Love Sweet Tooth Contest for your chance to win $100 worth of my favorite chocolates!
Thanks for having me M.J. Kane! I look forward to seeing you all at the next stop with The Black tomorrow!

about Taste for Love
Rochelle “Shelly” Gauthier is no stranger to loss. Hurricane Katrina taught her that in the blink of an eye, you can lose everything and everyone who matters most to you. So being cast out of the Wilkerson clan for betraying her cousin Kenneth, his fiancée Paige and their best friend Carlos only resulted in her being exactly how she always knew she would wind up anyway: alone.
Carlos Ortiz, on the other hand is alone by choice. Or so he tells himself. When Shelly makes an unexpected request for help from the Wilkersons, Carlos recalls a time when fate put him in a position where he had no choice but to accept Shelly’s assistance.
Now he must decide whether what he feels for her is a sense of obligation, or something else.
Taste for Love is the third novel from the Wilkersons in Love series.
Tia Kelly invites you to come meet the Wilkersons and get ready to fall in love.
an excerpt from ‘Taste for Love’
After finding a nice patch of grass under the shade of a tree, Shelly reached into her backpack to pull out a notebook while nibbling on a lavender macaron with chocolate ganache. Every day, she jotted down notes about Creates, referencing impromptu lessons she knew would be helpful when she opened her own shop one day. Today, she scribbled everything she could recall about baking the daily batch of fresh chocolate chip cookies.
A familiar voice carried in the wind and the pen she held onto suddenly stilled midair.
Rochelle looked up and saw Carlos Ortiz pushing his daughter on a swing, while he held a phone up to his ear. Carlos was saying something in Spanish while laughing between sentences. His back was to Rochelle as she watched him, she was mesmerized as usual from his presence, but knew she needed to instead turn away. Carlos stood in front of Melody pushing her once again before returning the phone to his pocket, and then he reached to grab the chains to still the swing before leaning forward to kiss the top of his little girl’s head. After this display of affection, Carlos gave the swing another push and released Melody back into the wind.
It was the middle of another baseball season, and almost a year since Carlos Ortiz played in a game, but he still looked like he lived and breathed the sport. The expanse of his broad shoulders filled out a stark white shirt. Even more than a hundred feet away, Shelly could see the defined muscles of his calves peeking below his dark shorts. What she also noticed was his hair; a trademark ponytail of thick, dark hair was gathered at the nape of his neck and appeared a little longer now.
Long hair and all, Carlos Ortiz was rugged, raw and sexy, a fact Shelly fought against admitting for years.
Every other swing toward him, Carlos would reach out for the chains and give Melody another shove. Periodically, he would speak and move his hands. His daughter would laugh and nod her head, then he would push so the swing would go a little higher than before.
The scene would have been sweet, except it made Rochelle’s eyes burn from the moisture building up behind them. She fought crying as she looked at the collateral damage her choice had caused – an innocent child suffered because Shelly shared memories about her mother’s past with a well-known blogger.
Just as Shelly tried to look away and collect her belongings to leave, she caught Melody waving and pointing her way. Rochelle couldn’t help but smile and wave back at the little girl, but hoped to escape without Melody’s father noticing her, too.
Unfortunately, Carlos turned and looked in Shelly’s direction soon after the brief exchange. Shelly couldn’t miss the scowl marring his face or how the air around her had grown thick with tension. Unable to now turn and look away, she absently watched Carlos as he signed with his hands, something for his daughter to understand, and then walked toward Shelly.
Shelly felt her shoulders brace and grip tighten on the strap of her backpack while she stood, frozen in place. There was no escaping a man that angry, especially when his senses locked in the intended target of his open hostility toward her.
The towering presence she recognized on his approach should have made her step back, but Shelly stood her ground. She was not running anymore; she wanted to own up to what she did so she could move on with self-forgiveness. Everyone else was moving on—the wedding taking place that weekend was proof of it; and now it was her turn. This was her chance to acknowledge her wrongdoings.
“Why are you here?” he asked. She didn’t mistake the lethal tone behind his calm question. “I told you that I don’t want you anywhere near my daughter.”
While awaiting her answer, she noticed he was staring at her like she was a stalker, as if she didn’t belong on the public street, or coincidently in the same breathing space as him.
The glare of his dark, narrowed eyes suddenly made her forget what she wanted to say. Shelly spent nights rehearsing how she would apologize if the opportunity ever presented itself, but now the words escaped her. How could she explain that her actions were not about the people she hurt, but was merely an act of self-preservation? The more she felt like a part of the Wilkerson family, the greater the risk there was of them hurting her. Shelly honestly believed they would one day hurt her, abandoning the love they declared for her just like her parents had done when they chose to die.
It didn’t matter that she was at a loss for words for Carlos at the moment, because in Shelly’s peripheral vision she spotted Melody climbing on the jungle gym. The excited child was moving quickly and reaching for a bar that Shelly instantly knew would be out of the girl’s reach.
“Melody!” Shelly shouted, shoving Carlos aside as she sprinted toward the center of the playground.

About Tia Kelly
Tia Kelly may be witty and feisty on the outside, but she is a die hard romantic at heart. She likes to bring ‘life moments… one character at a time’ in the contemporary fiction and is the author of nine books.
In addition to her love for writing, reading, playing chef in her own kitchen and traveling, Tia loves to kick back with a glass of wine and a good game on her television screen. And if it’s baseball season, you will probably hear Tia shouting the loudest (or checking out the cuties in the dugout)!

And then Gwyneth Paltrow said…
“Moms who work 9-5 have it easier”.
Have you seen this USA Today article? If not, check it out, then come back to read this post…..
Finished?
What did you think? Did you agree? Or are you like most working moms and think she lost her mind?
You’d think because of her financial status being a mother should be easy. So what, you work out of town and on set for hours on end, you can pay someone to clean up your house and cook dinner, right? What about babysitting? That’s in your budget too, right? If you decide to not take a job and sit at home or vacation with your family for weeks on end, that’s easy, you’ve got it made…..Right????
But then again, the grass always looks greener on the other side….
Personally? As a mother of four kids who has worked nine to five jobs- first and second shift- and been a stay-at- home -mom (or homemaker for all those politically correct ones out there!) who is now a work- at- home -mom/entrepreneur….I had to laugh. I think she has a valid point about the demands of her chosen career, but regardless of what you do for a living, being a wife and mother is a demanding, 24/7 job, regardless of whether you work full-time, part-time, or are a stay-at-home mom.
Let’s break it down… what are the responsibilities of a mother (married or single)?
Parent (obviously)
Doctor/Nurse- When everyone else is sick
Psychiatrist- When someone in the family is having a bad day
Chef/Nutritionist- Gotta feed them!
Taxi Driver- School, sports, sleepovers, etc.
Teacher- Home work!
Hairdresser- ponytails and haircuts!
Personal Shopper/Stylist- Clothes, personal hygiene
Entertainer- “Mom, I’m bored!!!”
Maid- Cleaning the house, washing clothes
Police Officer/Detective- “Alright, who did this????”
Money Manager- Gotta pay those bills!
Lover -(for dad if there’s one in the picture)- If you still have enough energy at the end of the day!
Friend….For everyone!
Did I miss any?
None of those jobs have cut off times. It doesn’t matter if you work a 9 to 5 (cell phones and text messages keep everyone a button push away), or if your home all day. The only time ANY mother gets a break is when the entire house is sleeping….or if the kids go to grandma’s or a sleepover….or you run out the house screaming mad!
In the end, it’s all about finding balance in your life, and I’d be lying if I said I’d found the perfect balance in mine. Things change, life changes, new responsibilities arise, deadlines, family schedules change… In the end, being flexible and realizing when it’s time to re-evaluate and revamp the schedule is key. Following that schedule, well, that can be a challenge!
If you’re blessed to have a partner who has your back when it comes to raising your kids and managing the household, you’ve got a one up on the situation. If your single and doing it alone- especially if you have more than one child to manage- it’s a struggle. Depending on the ages of your kids, you may be able to find a bit of relief and balance when it comes to managing some of the household task such as assigning chores like cleaning the kitchen, vacuuming, feeding the pets, washing clothes, and if you have one old enough to drive, take your siblings to school!!!
Regardless of what your work/at-home situation is, being a mother is a labor of love. It takes time, commitment, patience, perseverance, and yep…again, love. Every mother’s situation is different, and yes, it is easier for some than it is for others. Either way, it’s still a job, and instead of getting paid in dollars, we get paid in hugs and kisses! Priceless!

#8Sunday Sample: New Release!!!! LONELY HEART (Book 3 of The Butterfly Memoirs) –The Reality of the Situation…
After meeting Antonio, the mechanic, and being given an estimate of how much the car repair will be, Kaitlyn sits outside in a chair he provided to get her away from the nauseating shop fumes. She’s surprised by his consideration and even more by the fact he asked if her husband was on the way to pick her up. For the first time since her separation from Luke, Kaitlyn has to admit there is no man husband. The reality of her new life once again comes knocking at her door…
Excerpt:
“I’ll give you a call as soon as I know what the damage will be. Have a good evening,” he said, then walked towards my car. I watched him shut the hood, then park it on the other side of the lot.
I gulped the cold liquid. The fresh air helped ease the nausea. It dawned on me his simple act of kindness was more than Luke had done in months.
It would probably be the last nice thing a man did for me. After all, once I had my baby, looking for love would not be an option.

Coming from 5 Prince Publishing May 28, 2014!
Tyler Benson’s world was shaken with the news that he had a sister—one he never knew he had. Though he loves his sister, and his family remains a tightly woven unit, he simply can’t shake the feeling of betrayal from his mother. After a sabbatical from his family to find himself it is time to head back home and try to pick up the pieces of his life.
Courtney Fields has learned to deal with many tragedies. Losing her sight at eight-years-old was only a challenge that gave her many other skills. Now dealing with the loss of her brother in combat will no doubt teach her new lessons in life.
When Tyler meets Courtney on a South bound flight to Nashville he couldn’t possibly have expected that she’d be his lesson in accepting the things he cannot change or control. But can he reciprocate in helping her accept the loss of her brother when she learns the truth of his death?
