Good News, Me Hearties!
Woot! While working on The Rogue's Prize, I received an email from my editor, Jennifer Lawler at Crimson Romance. She wanted me to know an opening had come up and she wanted to place Lost Treasure, Captive Princess, my first contemporary romance, into that slot. The book was normally scheduled for July 2013. Of course, I said a resounding "Yes!" As a matter of fact, I'm doing the hempin jig, without the noose around my neck, of course. Heehee! (Pirate!)
But I digress...
Lost Treasure, Captive Princess began as a first chapter I submitted to the HQN Mills & Boon New Voices contest a year ago. I'd never written contemporary romance before. To be honest, I wasn't sure I had one in me. But once I started writing Gian-Paulo Montovanni and Carolina Beugre's story, I couldn't stop. (Must have been the rum...)
Now I will purposefully digress...
Moving wherever the Army sent us, my rogue and I were given a great opportunity to attend the Defensive Language Institute in Monterey, CA. Afterward, we lived in Italy for three years. (We even named our youngest daughter after one of our Italian teachers.) As a result, Italy has been, is, and always will be close to my heart. Why? Not just for the picturesque panorama and great food, but for the Italian people who are intensely passionate about life. I've never met a more courteous and giving people. ;)
Fast forward...
To honor my experiences in Italy, I wrote a story about an Italian prince in search of his mother's emerald necklace, a necklace every royal future bride-to-be has been presented on the last day of Carnivale. But our prince cannot marry and provide an heir because his people do not know the necklace is missing. That knowledge would draw questions about its disappearance. To prevent a scandal, his search for the necklace brings a jeweler from Atlanta to his attention. Carolina Beugre has somehow created a perfect replica. But how? Does this mean she knows where it is? Gian-Paulo's quest for the truth leads to more than any prince bargained for.
Lost Treasure, Captive Princess was written like a HQN Presents. Passion, intrigue, royal alpha, fiesty heroine, masquerade balls, yachts, and magnificent palaces— oh! the passion.
Da da daaaaa!!! Get ready for a March 4, 2013 release date, mi amici!!

My Cover for Lost Treasure, Captive Princess Arrived!
Good morning, me hearties!!! I'm in a great mood today!!! I bet you can guess why. I got my new book cover for Lost Treasure, Captive Princess, my first contemporary release yesterday. Woot!!!
Crimson Romance's art department has done a fantastic job capturing Carolina Beugre in her Carnivale masquerade costume, don't you think? The emeralds she copied are around her neck and Gian-Paolo is about to see her for the very first time, in person. (Goosebumps!!!)
I'm extremely lucky to have the wonderful people at Crimson behind this book. Having lived in Italy for three years, I had no other choice but to write a book which included everything Italian. Italian people are the most gracious, loving people in the world. And if I could go back and live in Italy, I'd do it in a heartbeat, me hearties.
Now, you may be wondering... What does this contemporary have to do with your other pirate series? Well, you see I'd like to be an author of many hats. But in all my books there will be adventure, treasure, mystery and the ever-present alpha male, exuding a heavy does of machismo. To counter the alpha spirit, enter in the woman strong enough to meet him face to face. Carolina may be not have been born a princess, but her spirit suggests she's more than capable of fulfilling the role.
Haven't we all dreamed of becoming a princess, of meeting the prince of our dreams? Fate provided that prince for Carolina. But will she accept the gift?

4 Days Until Lost Treasure, Captive Princess Arrives!
I'm celebrating today. Why? My debut contemporary Lost Treasure, Captive Princess via Crimson Romance will be released in 4 days, me hearties!!
Writing Gian-Paulo and Carolina's story was such a joy. But I'll tell you, my Italian prince, GP, could be quite demanding. There was a scene he insisted on taking part in that I didn't want to write. By jove, the devil blocked me for two weeks until I would write that scene for him. Once I broke down and did as he requested, he gave me no more trouble. Wily charmer! Passionate Italian!
How do characters become so vibrant for a writer? I've heard someone say that a writer controls the book. I've also been told that I'm an instinctive writer. For me, that means my characters lead the story, not the other way around. They materalize out of the nether, talk to me, sometimes badgering me until I give in, and urge me to help them find their HEA. Only when I agree to write their stories is it possible for them to become real. Writing books is a fabulous adventure, don't you agree?
I'm having the time of my life, dear readers. Here's a snippet from that scene:
“I want you, Carolina.”
Inches away now, he hesitated, drawing expectancy from her that both shocked and amazed her with its potency. Then, ever so slowly, he moved in to devour her lips, easing them apart with his tongue, instigating a battle of wills that somehow manifested itself into undeniable need.
Carolina wrapped her arms around him, clung to him, wanting him more than she’d ever wanted anything in her life. Their sexual encounter earlier in the day had only prepared her for this moment. She needed more of him and nearly fainted from the power of that need.
Thankfully, Gian-Paolo wasted no time. He lifted her into his arms. She moaned as he pressed against her and she welcomed the feel of his hard torso against her body. He set her down on the table and hiked her dress over her thighs, then deepened his kiss, thrusting his tongue inside her mouth, branding her with his heat, his taste.
He tore his lips from hers. She whined.
“I can’t wait for the dinner bell,” he said, sweeping his arm out, sending the expensive table setting careening against the wall. Glass shattered to the floor.
“Gian-Paolo — ” she admonished, before he took her lips again. He was mad! Crazy wild! But she matched his exuberance as she leaned back to give him better access against the polished table.
“Say my name again, Cara,” he implored.
“Gian-Paolo.”
Italians are passionate men, aren't they? I hope you'll enjoy Lost Treasure, Captive Princess as much as GP and I did, me hearties! Four days and counting...
