A pseudonym used by Gladys Mitchell for a series of six mystery novels written from 1966-1971, featuring philanthropist Timothy Herring and his work for the architectural preservationist society PHISBE. The Torrie novels were written in alternation with (rather than in place of) the six Mrs. Bradley novels published under Mitchell's own name during these years. All six Herring novels were published by Michael Joseph, Mitchell's sole publisher at this time, until the line was abandoned after 1971's Bismarck Herrings. In 2014, five of the six Herring novels were released as eBooks by Amazon's Thomas & Mercer / Kindle imprint in the United States (omitting, for no clear reason, the fourth book, Churchyard Salad). ...more
