Book Giveaway Winners!
A very special thank you to all those who participated in my recent book giveaway. I hosted the giveaway in honor of National Adoption Month and 273 members requested the book. There are five winners; Diana from Tennesee, Susan from Texas, Anthony from Washington, Steven from Pittsburgh, and Maryjo from West Virginia. Congratulations to all of you. Your signed books went out in the mail this morning and you should receive them in 7 -10 days.
Some of you racing fans may be aware that the Indianapolis 500 Speedway has the unique distinction of being the largest sports stadium in the world. It can be seen from outer space. The Speedway boasts stadium seating for an astounding 250,000+ people. The Indianapolis 500 Speedway also has designated areas track side and on the infield that combined with the stadium space will hold 500,000 persons.
Why am I giving you details about the seating capacity of the Indianapolis 500 Speedway? Imagine this mammoth stadium devoid of cheering racing fans, and filled instead with foster children ages newborn through 18 years old. Many thousands of these children are now available for adoption. Too many will age out of foster care without the support of a family. Currently in the United States, there are enough displaced children to fill this stadium and more.
Incredible? Haven't thought much about these children until now? That is part of the reason I wrote my book.That is why I inscribe the words, "Let the soul searching begin," whenever I autograph my book. I want more people to think about these children, and to do it in a new way. I want to help prospective parents and guardians, adoptive relatives, teachers, and other caregivers of these children to see life from the child's perspective and their experience. When you can do this sincerely, without being threatened, and understand the broad implications of adoption, attachment, family, and of loss and hope, you will be able to help these children regain life and safety, trust and love.
