Interviewed at The Torontoist
The Torontoist has a nice "coming soon" book feature, and they threw some questions my way, what with IN THE MEAN TIME coming in a few weeks.
Come read about the collection, the icky of NyQuil, and the secret to co-writing.
Cue tease:

Breakfast of Champions, Larry Bird, and My Untimely Demise?
Upon my most recent visit to my father's house, he tells me he bought me something at a church flea market. If those three words aren't enough to send you running screaming for the hills, I don't know what are. But I stood my ground. I said, "Lay it on me." (or I didn't, but same drift).
He gave me this:
It's not exactly this box. On my box there's only a shot of Larry dribbling, no floating-smiling bust of him like there is on this box.
I can understand that my father thinks I'm still the 12...

Tony Burgess's PEOPLE LIVE STILL IN CASHTOWN CORNERS
I first heard of Canadian author Tony Burgess because of the movie PONTYPOOL, a movie I very much enjoyed.
In October, CZP is releasing Burgess's novella PEOPLE LIVE STILL IN CASHTOWN CORNERS. Boiled down to basics, the premise sounds simple: the book's narrator, Bob Clark, owns a gas station in Cashtown Corners (and he's the only resident of the no-horse town). The book is told from his first person POV, picking up a month after 9/11 and on a day Bob becomes a mass murder, one that eludes...

Limited HC cover and my box o' ITMTs!
The limited edition hardcover of IN THE MEAN TIME has a different cover design than the trade. Mainly because there's a 900 word story printed on the covers. Erik, as usual, did an amazing design job.
This next image is the foil stamp (and it's from Mara's illustration for the new story "Growing Things"
The trade paperback won't be available until mid-to-late October, but I got my copies yesterday. You'll note that the title text is sparkly. Sparkles! I am not on team Jacob however. My...

Back from vacation round up
I was gone 8 days. Sis's beautiful wedding (where I said I promised myself I wasn't going to cry…) followed by a week in Dennisport (cape cod). The first 4 days were nor'easter wind and rain. 7-9 of us (depending upon the day) were stuck in the house. Still we had fun.
I was only gone for a week, but it feels longer, in some ways. So, a mishmash of stuff to announce, or things to just point at and blab about:
–Dave Zeltserman's new novel (his best to date, I think), THE CARETAKER OF LORNE...

Jon Armstrong podcast interview with me
Jon Armstrong (author of the very cool novel GREY, and forthcoming YARN) just posted our podcast interview. It's here!
I talk about my books, but also blood, uvula surgery, nostril openers, my irrational hatred of Jon, and how as fiction editor of a magazine, I once rejected my father. Good times had by all!

Dover Library Reading and limited ITMT update
–Wednesday, August 18th, I'll be appearing (poof!) at the Dover Library with my reading/signing buddy, Dave Zeltserman.
–Last night I signed the signature sheets for the limited edition of IN THE MEAN TIME. I ended up writing a one-line story on each sheet too. Something along the lines of "There once was a boy who had a terrible, horrible hand."

Chinese Translation of THE LITTLE SLEEP: pictures!
Look at what that crazy mailman left me today. Five copies of the chinese translation of The Little Sleep. Check it out:
The front cover. The book comes with a little wrap around cardboard thingy with a pic (relating to the plot, of course!) and text. One pic with the wrap, one without.
The back cover. Camera went all sepia tone of this photo, not sure why. Dig the groovy tree turning to birds. Very dreamy. It's not in the novel, but it's very dreamy.
There looks to be some sort of written...
