Marketing, Direct Sales and Evil Cultures

I did my first X (formerly Twitter) led advertisement online as I’ve done multiple online book tours and I’m not seeing much return. They’re fun but at the end of the day I don’t have endless hours to figure this stuff out. Promotion is necessary and I’m learning, my emphasis was always learn to write well and tell a story people would want to read. I think I’m 50% there as most people agree my prose is for the most part consistent, (and taste is subjective) it’s usually more along the lines wha...

Amoral or…?

Normally I would be chatting up New Projects but I failed to finish the second Puppeteer Book by the end of October. Blame the beautiful weather if you’d like, honestly it’s a combination of burnout and me focusing on getting the edits to Titan’s Ascent up to snuff.

It’s going fine I’ll likely be starting that swashbuckling project by the end of the year or early January. I’ve burned myself out physically before, but this is the first mental burnout where it’s taken a time for me to get over ...

Marketing, Minor Update

I am doing really well in the sequel to Puppetmaster 2, though I am tempted to veer hard right and do a completely different ending than the one I wrote oh, a year ago. I know: Shouldn’t take this long to write a sequel but I was editing the first book and MG so fixing/writing book 2 took a little longer. I may have a really rough draft done by the end of the month; I kind of like doing more editing in the winter and enjoying the weather while it’s nice out.

Kind of been a grey week so depres...

End of Summer, Thoughts on Noblebright

Summer always goes by too fast in Manitoba – I’m seeing pictures of freak snowstorms in Montana, so our weather is never guaranteed but it looks like it’ll be a beautiful first week in September at least locally. I started a new position doing the same thing only with On Call associated with it. I’ve been burnt out and dealing with some personal stuff – I’m doing better but it seems like I get one thing under control and something else starts coming off the rails.

Got two new pretty print boo...

My first Medieval Festival / Ren Faire

Thanks to COVID Cook’s Creek wasn’t able to put on a Ren Faire for the past few years and, let’s just say we had a great turn out. It was hot, my nieces raided my costume pile, and I put in a vendor application to sell my books, and I was joined by three other authors. I never went before last time they had an event (2018?) I went kayaking instead, but my aunt and grandpa went in addition to Ron, and they all said, “You should sell books there!” so I said, “Okay”.

How was it? I’ll level with ...

The Long Haul / Adventures with Vistaprint

Super excited, print copies of A Fable of Wood and String and additional ones of The Mermaid and the Unicorns should just make it before the Cook’s Creek Medieval festival (should, hahahaha). I won’t have copies of Magus Gambit but, I made some other promotional material, so ebook readers there will have a little something something so they can remember there’s an ebook after a solid day of watching jousting and chucking axes and at least find Champagne’s Website.

Ordering copies of Fable onl...

Cooks Creek, Review for the Windfeather Saga Season 2

Cook’s Creek Medieval Festival is a Go – I cannot promise A Fable of Wood and String will be ready at that time with copies in my little paws, but so far so good on my end. I can’t depend on the courier system but I’m optimistic. Ron and Maureen will be there, as well as another author who’s like me trying to get a project in under the wire. So if you’re coming to the event or the jousting or just to enjoy a day out with the family, swing by the merchant’s area and say hi, I’ll have other approp...

Science Fiction & Fantasy: Elitism Pt 1

Sorry I haven’t updated in a while. Busy editing and planning for summer markets. Kinda burnt out and need to sharpen my axe before I go cut down more trees so to speak, so I figured I’d talk about something that’s been on my mind. Final paragraph is about where I’m going for shows.

At the very first C4 Lit Fest I met an artist and bought some of her prints and kept her business card. I love the cover artist I’m working with who made Fables’ cover as well as some bookmarks, but I like seeing ...

Thoughts on The Jude Trilogy from Folk of the Air by Holly Black

I wasn’t going to review this series until I’ve read more of the overall series; there’s another duology and a comic and another standalone based in the same universe I haven’t gotten to yet but, my niece absolutely adores this series and is a little annoyed I have only given it 4 stars. Personally I love it when the author expands on the world and focuses on different characters or settings, so will I read more: Probably.

Jude is seven when a stranger appears, having similar cat eyes and...
