Book Description:

In Vranthia, The Wasting has claimed the lives of women, children, and warriors alike; many have fallen to this great plague. No one is safe from its darkness. Recklessness and subterfuge walk hand and hand amongst the Elders, as they seek a means to rule. With ferocity they intend to control the meek, with gluttony they will bleed the docile; destroying all who stand in their way.

But The Wasting can no longer be contained. What began as a dark elixir, stoked in the veins of hatred and revenge, from an enemy long thought dead, has spread beyond the great halls of the Vranthian Kingdom. And no one is certain when or where its darkness will end. Is the mystery and magic of the trion enough to save this great nation?

Kantella Balacjek is a lot of things, but a traitor to his people he is not. He needs to find the source of the darkness to prove his innocence, but the evidence against him grows almost daily. Lies told and enemies made have a way of shielding the truth from the light, even when the truth rages in the blood. Death and her harbinger await him. Will he succumb, or will The Wasting consume them all?

The Darengy grave-warriors have always walked in the shadows. But even they have their outcasts, the creatures that they fear. Onya knows what it is to be different, to be alone with the dying. The shadows and darkness hold their whispers and their pleas. Only she has the power to choose who crosses over. Enslaved by the resistance, she has learned the capacity for evil. Does her blood hold the power to seal the fate of many nations? Does she the courage to change that fate?

Mercenary, loner, wanderer – Traegar is one of the first among the Elders. He is a maker and destroyer of life. Time has jaded him. His people’s level of debauchery and power disgusts him. When the Great Wars ended he chose to walk away and hunt what he despises and loves the most; burying the pieces within him instead. Now his kindred are dying in droves. The Elders have grown unruly, and unstable in their bid for domination. In his dreams the whispers of the ancients fire his blood with the heat of the mating.

Will finding his trion redeem his faith in his people? Will their belief in each other be enough to set them all free?

Strong are the Binds of Love, Faith and Magic.

Warning: Contains menage.

Excerpt:

They found her standing at the balcony entry, the golden light of Vranthia’s three moons silhouetting her figure in the shimmering folds of her long, sheer gown. Her room was lit by firelight and moonlight only, the effect stunning against her pale skin and impish figure. When she turned her blue eyes on them, each were lost to her sultry, knowing gaze.

Their twin growls of hunger reached her, and Onya couldn’t help the laugh that escaped.

“You toy with danger unlike you’ve known, my sweet,” Traegar gruffly warned.

“I am braver than you think, mercenary.”

Kantella reached her first, his quick strides and firm strength encompassing her against his length. He folded her against his body, the warm heat of his lips brushing her neck as he whispered, “One of the bravest.”

“Only the bravest to be our mate,” Traegar agreed, tipping her head, stealing her sigh of pleasure with his insistent lips.

Surrounded and encompassed by them, Onya had never felt more safe and secure in her life. Desire burned through her limbs, need quivering in her belly. She clung to Traegar, the wet heat of his tongue delving, tasting, and consuming her. All the while, Kantella wove his own brand of magic against her flesh. His hands cupped her breasts, his erection rubbing against her; pressing her tightly against Traegar’s eager flesh.

They turned her in their arms so that she faced Kantella, making quick work of removing her gown. She stood between them, naked but for her low sandals, her skin glowing in the moonlight. Her long, pale hair flowed to her waist.

“So beautiful,” Kantella rasped, his lips swallowing her gasp.

Book Description:

Magic Changes Everything When Loves Claims The Soul

On Vranthia, The Wasting is spreading, mutating, claiming not only the women of this fierce, warrior race, but stealing the lives of men, children, warriors, and now, some say, even the Elders among their race.

Rumors of the trion – the ancient joining of Vranthian, Darengy and Outworlder blood and magic as a cure – is growing beyond the halls of Prince Kuthar’s court. With his brother, Prince Draven’s recent joining, there is the first glimmer of hope for their people. But with hope comes lies and growing subterfuge. The Elders demand a rightful ruler and some will stop at nothing to get it.

Kuthar Balacjek – leader, warrior, and vampire is first in line to be the rightful king. Bred to rule from an early age, he has learned Vranthian laws, and their ancient history. He has studied their past, and fought their battles with the blood, sweat and ferocity, that only a true ruler can comprehend. But The Wasting is an enemy that even he is uncertain how to conquer. Will he find the answers he seeks in the ones whose fate he now controls? Or have they laid claim to his soul?

Cynthiana Rue – Cyn – has never been more irritated in her life. Space-napped by her best-friend and a misfit crew of alien vampires she is swept up in Vranthian legend, war and her captors’ unbridled passions. Will she fight for her freedom or give in to the unknown?

Ooen has known slavery his entire life. Bound since youth to guard the Elder, Vogeth, he has known a life of deception. And now, The Wasting has changed everything. Accused of Vogeth’s death, his fate now lies in the hands of the Vranthian ruler – something his human captive can comprehend. Will he too rebel, or will his magic help to set them all free?

Character Interview with Aijyn, from Lotus Petals by Brantwijn Serrah

tourbanner

Today on the blog we have Aijyn, from Lotus Petals by Brantwijn Serrah for an interview. So sit back and relax,

character

Character Name: Aijyn

Character Bio: Aijyn is quiet and fearfully obedient to her vampire master, Daimyo Gohachiro. One of his human courtesans, she has learned to survive through being virtually invisible, masking and controlling her emotions in the face of the demons around her. When Rhiannon comes into her life, though, Aijyn finds it nearly impossible to keep her suddenly unruly feelings at bay. Aijyn

Describe yourself what is your worst and best quality?

I expect my worst quality would be the cowardice I have lived with up until now. I allowed the winds of fate to carry me and never believed I might change my own course. I regret the willingness to obey my Lord out of fear of retribution, and, since Rhiannon has come here to his temple, the Blood Lotus, I have urged her to also obey. I see now that doing so only dishonors her strength, and any strength I might wish to call my own.

My best quality? I think, my gentleness. It may seem strange to choose such a quality, when I have been raised in a temple of demons and demons are anything but gentle... one might expect I would have adopted a hardness to protect myself more adequately. If I have anything to be proud of in my years here, though, it must be that I have remained soft. Perhaps it has helped me to escape too much notice from the vampires, and therefore spared my life from their capricious hungers. What I know, though, is that it brought Rhiannon to me, made me trustworthy to her, and made me her friend.

What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?

I would like the world to know that, given the choice, I would never have sought this life, the life of a vampire's courtesan and slave. There are others among the Daimyo's human pets who dream of being brought into his fold and even plot to win favor with him or his vampires, hoping they will be changed...I can think of nothing more horrible.

What is your biggest secret, something no one knows about?

It has been my principle not to be one who keeps secrets, and I have very little I would even wish to keep. Vampires are impeccably good at knowing when a human is lying to them, and lying can enrage them or incite them to bite. Besides that, temple life has afforded me very little privacy anyway; my life has belonged to Daimyo Gohachiro, and he has access to everything. So until Rhiannon arrived, I had no real secrets to keep.

What are you most afraid of?

My master the Daimyo, and his harem of vampire ladies. They can be notoriously jealous. It is not often a human companion such as I will survive this long.

What do you want more than anything?

My freedom, and Rhiannon's, so we might finally be together.

What is your relationship status?

Quite complicated, unfortunately. I am one of the Daimyo's mortal possessions, so I belong to him. My heart, however, loves another...and she is his intended vampire bride.

How would you describe your sense of fashion?

I am quite well-trained in the art and wearing of kimono, and I know the proper place and time for a more casual yukata, a business-like homongi, or a stunning and elaborate suzohiki. I have a particular liking for kanzashi hair accessories, as well: my favorites are those which dangle like petals or snowflakes from one's hair.

How much of a rebel are you?

Oh, I am not one at all. I am a servant, a slave and a prisoner... I have never found the courage to rebel, nor would I know how to even manage it. Rhiannon is the one with the courage of a rebel.

What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?

My life at the Blood Lotus Temple began as the result a choice to submit myself to the vampires, in order to ensure my mother's other children would never be taken. By coming here, I have spared the lives of my brothers and sister. I feel saving them from these demons is the greatest achievement of my life.

What is your idea of happiness?

A normal life, freedom from these walls and the looming presence of vampires.

What is your most treasured possession?

As I have said, there is almost nothing which I can truly call mine, as my life belongs to Gohachiro. However, all the courtesans of his court carry a small knife, called a kaiken, for defense and protection. I guard mine very carefully, as one day my life may surely depend on it.

What is your most marked characteristic?

Perhaps my complexion. My skin is very smooth and unblemished, except for the slight scars of vampire bites... which I suspect is something of an attraction to the Daimyo, anyway. I have been told I am quite 'tempting' to the demons when I blush, or when I reveal tenderer portions of skin such as my wrist, my neck, or even my ankles.

What is it that you most dislike?

I am not a fan of crude language or uncouth behavior. Of course, even more than these, I hate monsters, but those I have to live with every day.

Which living person do you most despise?

She does not count among 'the living'. She is one of them, a vampire: Rhiannon's Viking bodyguard, Sölva. I have never believed I could hate anyone so deeply, but she is a truly despicable beast.

What is your greatest regret?

I have tried not to allow myself selfish thoughts, but deep in my heart, I do wish somehow I could have escaped the tithe which culled me from my village and brought me here. I sometimes wish it could have been any other girl besides me... that I could have lived out a normal human's life and never known the existence of vampires at all.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Kindness.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Strength and courage. I suppose both these answers could be true of either sex, really.

Which living person do you most admire?

I've lived in a temple of demons all my life. The only living people I know are the other human slaves... and we all make the best attempt not to be noticeable or overstep our bounds.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

I would wish to be stronger of heart, like Rhiannon.

If you would like to know more about Aijyn check out today’s book blast.

Without waiting for them to move, she strode boldly across the little space to come eye-to-eye with the captain himself as he struggled to come to his feet. At first they were so stunned by the mortal’s appearance none of the three knew what to do: Kazuo, the captain, finally registered her shrill accusations. "You would poison the daimyo’s honored guest?" she shouted at him. "You would drug her with octopus venom and then humiliate her?" Coming to his senses—they were slower in the daytime, vampires—Kazuo brought his hands down on her shoulders and lifted her off her feet. The sudden movement reminded her she had stepped into a tiger’s den—she stiffened in his grasp and sucked in a fearful breath. "Since when does the human come into my rooms uninvited?" he snarled. Fear shook her—she fully expected he would hurt her, and rightfully so—but she did not give off. "Rhiannon Donovan has drunk the venom of the blue-ring octopus," she said, her voice quavering but still strong. "Your huntsmen use it to paralyze and kill—one of them drugged the human she hunted, and she swallowed it with his blood!" "You dare charge my men with such a disgraceful act? And for a gaijin slut?" "What’s going on here?" Kazuo looked up; his two servants followed his glance. In the doorway stood Nagisa, tall and elegant, wrapped in the gauzy silk of her azure sleeper’s yukata—she, too, must have been roused by the sound of Aijyn’s screams. Her cold eyes regarded each of them carefully. "Aijyn," she said, the curiosity in her tone edged with danger. "What do you mean by disturbing the captain during his daytime rest?" Kazuo shot a dangerous and warning glare at the human oiran, but Aijyn ignored it, desperate with fear. "Nagisa-sama, the Councilwoman’s noble emissary was betrayed last night during the hunt," she said quickly; she’d never imagined one day it might be Nagisa, of all people, to save her from the fangs of an angry vampire. "Rhiannon drank the blood of a human poisoned with octopus venom, and now she lies in her rooms injured and sick. They took her hair, Nagisa-sama! They’ve shorn her like a...like a rag boy!" Nagisa’s poisonous eyes narrowed, her lips pressing into a thin line like the blade of a knife. "Kazuo," she said, the word like a stone dropping into an empty well. "Put Aijyn down." Kazuo stared, incredulous, at the graceful tayu. When he did not immediately comply, Nagisa strode into the room and grabbed him by the throat. "Why, Kazuo-san," she growled sweetly. "I had no idea you had already become so bored with immortality. Seventy-three years, if I recall, and already you wish for our master to release your soulless carcass into oblivion." Amazingly, Kazuo slowly backed down, quietly letting Aijyn go while his eyes remained furiously on Nagisa. His servants watched with silent awe as Nagisa continued, never breaking her hold on the captain’s neck. "Aijyn-chan, you are surely aware you will suffer greatly, should this accusation prove false," the tayu said. "I am quite sure of it, Nagisa-sama," Aijyn replied, bowing low. "I have heard the captain and his hunting party speak of the blow-darts they use to sting their human prey with the toxin. Kazuo-san has said the poison stings kin-born vampires as well; I am quite sure Rhiannon has swallowed it, and what reduced her to helplessness while her clothes were torn and her hair cut off." "Please return to the rooms of our guest. Attend to her carefully—be sure these men did not force themselves on her body, as well. I will deal with Kazuo, and send word to the daimyo of this dishonorable conduct." Aijyn felt cold all through her, and a dizzy giddiness swept through her mind. She had not even considered what she did—storming into one of the vampire’s nests!—and now she felt weak in the stomach. How had she even survived it? Nagisa’s words echoed in her head: make sure the men had not forced themselves on Rhiannon’s body. How could she not have considered it or checked for signs of it, to see if Rhiannon had also been raped by these monsters? "Aijyn-chan," Nagisa said again. Shaken from her daze, she nodded. Then she slipped quickly out of the room and found herself running, again, for Rhiannon.

clip_image014 Sometime in early 2009, Brantwijn Serrah ran across an erotic novel in her local Barnes and Noble, and fell in love with the gorgeous geisha pictured on the cover. Sad to say, the book didn't live up to expectations. After one too many iterations of the phrase "his most honorable penis", Brantwijn decided to write her own story instead. The idea for Lotus Petals, the tale of a geisha seduced into the world of vampires, was born. When she isn't visiting the worlds of immortals, demons, dragons and goblins, Brantwijn fills her time with artistic endeavors: sketching, painting, customizing My Little Ponies and sewing plushies for friends. She can't handle coffee unless there's enough cream and sugar to make it a milkshake, but try and sweeten her tea and she will never forgive you. She moonlights as a futon for four lazy cats, loves tabletop role-play games, and can spend hours watching Futurama, Claymore or Buffy the Vampire Slayer while she writes or draws. In addition to Lotus Petals, Brantwijn has had several stories published in anthologies by Breathless Press, including the 2013 Crimson Anthology and 2014 Ravaged Anthology. She's also had a short story published in the Cleiss Press Big Book of Orgasm, and hopes to have several more tales to tell as time goes on. Excerpt -

Ava’s eyes met mine, and the understanding there almost broke me.

“I can’t imagine what you’ve gone through, Karson. And I won’t pretend I can even begin to wrap my mind around how that would feel. I would never ask you to give up your hunt for me,” Ava said.

Emotions rolled over me—so fast and hard I couldn’t quite grasp them. My old familiar pain, and new pain for her. They built under my skin, threatening to burst free if I didn’t find an outlet.

I pushed the bathroom door open the rest of the way. Ava let out a soft squeak, but I pulled her into my arms and kissed her. Brutally, I punished her with my mouth. I needed an outlet for my emotion. No. Not just an outlet. I needed her.

Only a moment of hesitation, and she was kissing me back. One hand clutched my shoulder while the other held on to her towel. Wrapping my arms around her, I pulled her closer, anger completely drowned by the passion she elicited in me.

“This is such a bad idea,” I murmured against her lips.

“Shut the hell up and quit thinking for once.”

Still wet from the shower, she clung to me as I kissed her neck. I nibbled my way to her shoulders and then in one sweeping motion, picked her up—towel and all. Then I carried her out of the bathroom and set her on her feet next to the bed.

I tugged lightly on the towel she still clutched, but didn’t try to take it from her. This was her decision, and even if it killed me, I would stop if she wanted me to.

“We don’t have—”

“Didn’t I tell you to be quiet?” Her words were teasing, but her voice was full with emotion. With a jerk of quick movement, her posture stiffened, and then she tossed the towel to the floor.
