Top Fiction Books on Indietribe – as at 20th July

The Top Fiction Books is based on the number of sales and click-throughs from INDIETRIBE to Amazon in the last week. Whilst every click through does not lead to a sale, it is certainly evidence of a high level of interest, so the 10 authors should be justly proud that their books are being noticed and look forward to them being best selling books. We monitor click-throughs and do not count multiple click-throughs from one computer.

One great way to get in to the Top 10 and stay there is to make sure that you attract readers who are surfing the Amazon site on a 24/7 basis.

DANGEROUS TIMES by Phillip H Frey

51N13JY58UL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA278_PIkin4,BottomRight,-64,22_AA300_SH20_OU01_DANGEROUS TIMES is a contemporary noir crime-thriller with strong women characters, dark humor and the pull of the unpredictable. This book is not for the squeamish. It begins as a creepy slow burner that leads to sex, violence, and murder.

Frank Moore is a diabolical criminal who has come up with an outrageous, malevolent plan. After a frustrating search he has finally found the key to its success. Frank has found his look-alike, a close-enough double: John Kirk. In the harbor city of San Pedro, John Kirk leads a troublesome life, common troubles that escalate to the dreadful when Frank Moore comes to town. John Kirk, hunted down and pegged for death without knowing why.

“Dangerous Times” is a well-written crime-thriller. The plot is fast-paced and filled with surprise turns, betrayal, violence and murder, and a bit of sex. The story line includes multiple characters with their own problems and circumstances, but Frey pulls them all in and makes them work very well. I recommend this book to anyone who likes crime thrillers. You won’t be disappointed.  5 stars - Reviewed by Gloria: readersfavorite.com/review/7578

Phillip Frey wrote, directed, and edited 3 short films, all of which had international showings, including The New York Film Festival. He then became become a produced screenwriter.  And now more recently, “Dangerous Times” and “Hym and Hur” are Phillip Frey’s first works of narrative fiction.

In the next 48 hours, Sheriff Dove Connelly will peel back the layers of intrigue beneath the tranquil camaraderie of his mountain enclave and find that nothing is what it seems.

______________________

As Dove sets his investigation in motion, Tessa Bradley, a hard assed Texas gal, faces off with her abductors. Her rangy beauty doesn’t mean a damn thing to the foreign men holding her at gunpoint. Just as one of them pulls the trigger, Tessa lashes out. Wounded but alive, she escapes her captors only to find greater peril lies ahead. As her life flashes before her eyes, Tessa struggles to stay alive, prays for rescue and fights for her soul’s salvation.

She marketed a world-class spa when it was still called a gym, did business in China before there were western toilettes at the Great Wall and mucked around with the sheep to find out exactly how her client’s fine wool clothing was manufactured.   Then Rebecca wrote her first book and found her passion.

Now, over twenty-five books later, she is a USA Today and Amazon best selling author and writes full time, penning thrillers that explore the emotional impact of the justice system.

Sheriff Charles Matthews is frustrated by the town’s silence. He isn’t planning to arrest anyone for a murder more than fifty years old, but he does want to bury the soldier’s remains with a name other than John Doe. One of the local oldster’s must know that name, but no one, not even his spinster dispatcher, Miss Poole, will talk. Whoever John Doe was, he still frightens Crawford County’s senior citizens fifty years after his death.

A fan of mysteries since a childhood obsession with Agatha Christie and Rex Stout, D. R. Meredith has written three mystery series set in the Texas Panhandle, a little-known area of the state even to other Texans.

She arrives at the shore just in time to see the teenager pulled from the water, battered and near death. Ready to kill Billy’s selfish, neglectful mother, Josie rushes to the Zuni house only to find someone has beaten her to it. Two men lie dead downstairs and Billy’s mother clings to life on the floor above. Spurred on by Hannah’s fear that Billy will be framed for the murders, Josie takes up his defense. But Billy is evasive, physical evidence points to his guilt, and the county counsel wants him committed to the state. With the clock ticking, Archer and Josie set out to find the mysterious man who can vouch for Billy’s whereabouts at the time of the murders. What they find instead is a web of intrigue and deceit that stretches half way around the world and an eyewitness who is blinded by a justice Josie cannot understand.

OPEN HOUSE: Aristocrats, Squatters and Ghosts Share a Castle by Charlie Bray

No wonder they are smiling as they scuttle away. He sees his lordship order a Thai bride and use the watch tower to conduct a clandestine relationship with the mother of his son-in-law.Barnes also sees activists, led by his lordship’s wayward granddaughter, laying claim to the adjoining woods, his other granddaughter cavorting naked in the moat with her friends, and a sinister man in black flitting around weirdly. He sees his great grandson, the unlikely named, Che Guevara unfurling banners from the turrets and running around the castle like a ninja warrior.
Used to a more Downton Abbey type of existence, the butler decides he has to intervene.

A visit to Cove Castle will remind you of Wodehouse’s Blandings Castle and show you what Downton Abbey could be like in the 21st CenturyScale the castle walls and come along for the ride. Enjoy this side-splitting farce from the moment feisty aristocrat, Lady Caroline enters Cove Castle airspace, right up to the final scene when…Well, you’ll just have to read it to find out.

To Sheriff Charles Matthews that’s eight thousand chances for a gun-related accident. But when the most hated man in the county, banker Rich Hansford, turns up with his face removed by a shotgun blast, it’s no accident; it’s murder. To Crawford County folk, it’s a public service killing, and no one, not even the sheriff’s staff, are much interested in seeing anyone arrested. Certainly no one will inform on his neighbor; in fact, no one will talk at all. It’s up to the sheriff to break through the wall of silence and arrest the murderer.

A fan of mysteries since a childhood obsession with Agatha Christie and Rex Stout, D. R. Meredith has written three mystery series set in the Texas Panhandle, a little-known area of the state even to other Texans.

It was inspired by a true story, and the difficulties this woman faced came from the dangers of trying to infiltrate the drug ring while working with a drug task force as well as the problems it caused because she couldn’t tell anyone what she was doing. She bullied her way on to the task force after her son had been killed in a car accident and drugs were found at the scene. It was a great act of courage to channel her grief over losing her son into being so proactive about the drug problems in her town. So often we talk about the problems around us, but how many have the guts to step out and do something?

Maryann Miller, a best-selling author of books, screenplays and stage plays, has won numerous awards for her screenplays and short fiction, including the Page Edwards Short Fiction Award, the New York Library Best Books for Teens Award, and first place in the screenwriting competition at the Houston Writer’s Conference. One Small Victory was the first of her novels to be published in hardback by Five Star Cengage/Gale

ONE CHANCE FOR GLORY by Edward Heikell and Robert L Heikell

Heikell mix history with some fiction to create a well-rounded view of lesser known pilot Clyde Pangborn in “One Chance for Glory: First nonstop flight across the Pacific” (ISBN 1468006088). Pangborn was the first pilot to successfully cross the Pacific Ocean nonstop, but his accomplishment was lost in the shuttle of other pilots who accomplished great things and became household names. The Heikell brothers contacted sources who were associated with Pangborn during the time of his flight, and all questioned why Pangborn’s incredible feat was never advertised in history books. During the era of pilots like Amelia Earhart, Charles Lindbergh and Jimmy Doolittle, Pangborn was overlooked; however, some suspect it was a result of a gag order placed on him by the sponsors of his trip. The Heikells use emotions and fictitious conversations to piece together what sketchy historical information existed about the flight and link the emotional stresses that must have existed between Pangborn and his loved ones. “The book is based on history, but some of it had to be fiction,” Edward Heikell says. “Actual pictures of the event have been included, but all of the conversations, emotions, some people and sub stories were made up to make a complete story out of the fragmented history trail.” Pangborn and his co-pilot Hugh Herndon Jr. ventured on their trip to save the barnstorming business and make a name for themselves. A dangerous journey within itself, Pangborn was shocked when he discovered Herndon was not the flyer he appeared to be, thus nearly killing them on numerous occasions. The discovery of situations like this prompted the Heikells to add in made-up emotions that would present a complete story of Pangborn.

DARK REDEMPTION by Peter Ubtrent

5146zcrgfyL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_“Dark Redemption” by R Peter Ubtrent is the fifth book in the stunning ‘Dark Pilgrim’ series. And still the author keeps us mesmerized and surprised as events in the galaxy continue to twist and turn in directions we could never have foreseen. The universe seems to be crumbling into chaos. The F’gat Ynos are slowly but surely destroying every planet they come across, intent on wiping out the human race. There is general chaos as the hyper-gates normally allowing galactic travel are closed as a defensive measure. Only a few vessels are able to create their own pirate gate to travel through. Ailanthus, the Emperor, is still trying to unite the Imperium, the Noble Houses within which are being challenged by The Restoration, whose members are growing more and more desperate. Someone else is after the Imperial throne too. The Dei Glorium, Ailanthus’ intended spouse, has vengeance up her sleeve with potentially devastating effects. And Anolis, working with two bounty hunters and a Kroor, still wants to repay his brother’s death, brought about by Ailanthus’ actions in the past. The action doesn’t stop.

In contrast to the enormity of the crisis facing the galaxy, emotions on a personal level play an important part in this novel. Love and loyalty emerge strongly, although there is also deception, hatred and dishonesty. The characters, many of whom are now very familiar to us this far along in the series, continue to develop. Each is as complex as the universe they inhabit. Ubtrent has created yet another absorbing novel that is impossible to put down.

Top Fiction Books on Indietribe – as at 6th July

The Top Fiction Books is based on the number of sales and click-throughs from INDIETRIBE to Amazon in the last week. Whilst every click through does not lead to a sale, it is certainly evidence of a high level of interest, so the 10 authors should be justly proud that their books are being noticed and look forward to them being best selling books. We monitor click-throughs and do not count multiple click-throughs from one computer.

One great way to get in to the Top 10 and stay there is to make sure that you attract readers who are surfing the Amazon site on a 24/7 basis.

Check out our AMAZON MAGNET

INDIETRIBE’S AMAZON MAGNET can enhance ebook sales

If you’re looking to increase your ebook sales and join the ranks of best selling books, you need to study every aspect of book marketing. Consider this:

Fact: A lot of the  books bought on Amazon are found from within Amazon by readers visiting their website.

Fact: Many visitors to the site do not know what book they want prior to making their purchasing decision.

Fantasy: Authors can dangle magnets into Amazon and attract readers like fishing rods can attract fish.

images

Well actually, the third point listed above is kind of fact. We can supply you with a kind of magnet to catch readers whilst they’re hell bent on spending money. “I’ll have some of that!” I hear you shout.

Well you can do, but first of all let’s get inside the mind of a reader when he enters Amazon looking for a book that he has never heard of. What is the first thing he does?

He clicks on Kindle, clicks on the categories that he’s interested in and browses the top selling books on the first page. Now if your book is not on that page, there’s no point dangling a magnet into it, he’s spoilt for choice already.

But what does he do if he doesn’t fancy the books there?

He puts words and phrases into the Amazon search box that reflect the kind of book he’s looking for.

Let’s say he’s read Brigitte Jones Diary and wants something similar. He’ll probably type in Brigitte Jones, laugh out loud, funny person’s diary.

Now, let’s say you’ve written a laugh out loud funny book, similar to Brigitte Jones Diary that tells the tale of a funny person through his diary.

BINGO! You’ve made a sale. Er, sorry – probably not. Not unless the seven search words or phrases you submitted to Amazon matched his search request and were featured in your book title and book description.

What, they weren’t? Well now is the time to get out the magnets because this is the pool to dangle them in.

If you rank high on Amazon’s search engine, more people will buy more of your books, your books will climb up the Amazon Sales Rankings and appear on Page One in your chosen categories. Then it’s time to shout BINGO! So how do we get them into that exalted position? Bring out our Amazon Magnet.

INDIETRIBE’S AMAZON MAGNET is based on four distinct steps:

1. It second-guesses potential readers by climbing inside their heads. If you wanted a book like yours, what words and phrases would you put in Amazon’s search box. Time to brainstorm. Think carefully about your book, think carefully about the words and phrases that describe it. Create a list.

2. Test your list by running each word and phrase through Google Adwords. This will tell you how popular each entry is on their search engine. In other words how many people regularly input it. It will also provide you with a list of alternative words and phrases together with the popularity of each item. Now is the time to delete some of your proposed entries and add a few. The total is still likely to be well over the seven that Amazon allows you to use.

3. Next it’s time to bring in Amazon’s Leading Indicators.Type in each of your words and phrases into Amazon’s search engine. Most of them will be answered by a drop down menu of choices – not in alphabetical order, but most likely in order of popularity amongst their searchers. This is the best indication yet of words and phrases to use within your allocation of seven. Settle on your list of seven and download into your Amazon’s book account.

4. Carefully integrate the seven keywords or phrases into your title and book description. You probably don’t want to change your title now, but you can always create a strap line to accommodate a limited number of your chosen words. There’s nothing to stop you totally recreating your book description and including as many of your chosen words as possible. Do it delicately though. Do not flood it. Writing your description is an art. Don’t make it obvious that you’re building it around your keywords. You’re not merely trying to attract potential readers, you’re trying to sell to them. Having attracted their attention, your book description is the key factor in closing the sale.

And that’s it. That’s the magnet. Now when potential readers type in search words that match your book’s search words – and that should be often now that you’ve researched them properly – Amazon’s robots will set off looking for matches and end up on your doorstep. Your book should start to pop up in front of more and more people and sales should start to improve.

There is no reason why you should not climb these four steps on your own, but I acknowledge that you may not have the time, confidence or inclination to commit to this task.

Don’t worry. Indietribe will be pleased to carry out all four steps on your behalf for a minimal fee of £65 (approx $97 U.S.Dollars) And as a Thank You for entrusting us with the job, we’ll showcase your book for free on Indietribe using your new and enhanced Book Description. That’s worth £15, so in real terms, our Amazon Magnet has cost you fifty quid. And that could prove to be a very lucrative little investment.

So it’s perhaps time to think about increasing the sales of your book by taking the four steps laid down in our Amazon Magnet. Start catching those readers!

So here we go with our 25th Showcase:

DARK ENLIGHTENMENT by Peter Ubtrent

51Oc24MSCwL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA300_SH20_OU01_It takes an excellent author to maintain a series successfully over four books but this is what R Peter Ubtrent does in this next novel in the absorbing and complex ‘Dark Pilgrim’ series. And if anything, the quality goes up. The excitement continues with the Restoration now thrown into the broiling mix, working to bring down the Church of the Blessed Prophets which it sees as an “infection”. Lord Comte Mishi continues her rebellion against the tatters of the Imperium. The virus is still having a fiercely negative impact on humanity, as are the Drek and the Ynos. And Ailanthus is still fighting his fate, with an ever-dwindling band of loyal supporters. He feels wholly inadequate for the responsibilities he will face as Emperor. All of the main characters reflect on what their status will be within the new order, if and when it finally comes.

This intricately constructed book has at its heart pain and relationships, and often the pain of relationships. There is torture, both physical and emotional, on a shocking scale. Trust too is an issue. It is described as being nothing but exploitation at one point and this seems true. Alliances are brittle and self-interest is served. The galaxy seems to be wading forward into darker times. The truth concerning the history of the Dark Ages of Human Bondage emerges but as Ailanthus declares sarcastically, “Now that we’ve been enlightened, we all know better.” There seems to be no end to the darkness in sight. There is still a lot more to come in this astounding series.

DEAR CROSSING by Marjorie Doering

51OKXgLQ6UL._AA160_A peaceful, lakeside summer home… A gruesome murder… Valerie Davis, wife of Paul Davis, a prominent Minneapolis executive, is dead. Very dead.

Personal demons in tow, Ray Schiller of the Widmer P.D. follows the evidence to the Twin Cities, joining forces with Minneapolis homicide detective Dick Waverly. They discover many are suspect, few are innocent. The widower has good reason to keep his personal life private, and he isn’t the only one–not by a long shot.

“Sweet nothings” become weapons in a war of words as intimates turn on one another. The case is turned on its head as ambition, love and hate result in lethal consequences.

When an unthinkable incident makes Ray the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation in the midst of the case, his personal and professional life are in the balance. He soon learns the devil is

in the details, and the details aren’t what anyone expected.

Marjorie Swift Doering enjoys writing in various genres. Currently, her focus is on the upcoming completion of the third in her series of “Ray Schiller” murder mysteries. In 2005, her first one-act play, Flight 419, was produced and performed by Darknight Theatrical Productions in Chicago, Illinois. Omega Publications, in 2009, published a number of her short stories in an anthology titled Mosaic, A Collection of Short Stories. In 2010, another of her short stories was published in Red Cedar, The University of Wisconsin Barron County’s journal of arts and literature. THE SHERIFF AND THE FOLSOM MAN MURDERS by D.R.Meredith

51zf9Ff3hUL._BO2,204,203,200_PIsitb-sticker-arrow-click,TopRight,35,-76_AA278_PIkin4,BottomRight,-52,22_AA300_SH20_OU02_Enrique Armijo, archaeologist, and in his own mind, the world’s authority on the Folsom Man culture, is spying on a ritual performed by the so-called Skin People in the crater of Capulin Mountain, an extinct volcano in northern New Mexico. He doesn’t expect to be murdered. He certainly doesn’t expect the weapon to be a prehistoric atl-atl. Back in Crawford County, Texas, Sheriff Charles Matthews doesn’t expect a call from his deputy, Raul Trujillo, about the archaeologist’s murder and the bizarre weapon used. He certainly doesn’t expect to hear that the atl-atl has been found in his deputy’s hotel room and that Raul is charged with murder. Knowing that no matter what the evidence says, Raul didn’t murder anyone, Charles leaves his badge behind in Texas and steps into New Mexican Sheriff Kit Lindman’s territory to prove his deputy and friend innocent.

A fan of mysteries since a childhood obsession with Agatha Christie and Rex Stout, D. R. Meredith has written three mystery series set in the Texas Panhandle, a little-known area of the state even to other Texans.

EXPERT WITNESS by Rebecca Forster

But Josie isn’t there. In fact, Josie isn’t anywhere. When her Jeep is found abandoned in a parking lot near the Redondo pier, the only clue to her whereabouts leads Archer to Daniel Young, an expert witness for the prosecution in the case that made Josie’s reputation as a defense attorney ten years earlier. Fighting to keep Hannah from being taken into custody by child protective services, racing against a clock ticking off the minutes of Josie’s life, Archer reluctantly partners with Daniel Young and a rogue Hermosa Beach detective, Liz Driscoll, to race down a winding road of intrigue. From the Hollywood Hills to the glitzy evangelical enclave of Orange County; the seedy side of Los Angeles to the pristine and remote California mountains, Archer bores into the past. What he finds is that the woman he loves was once a ruthless and hated defense attorney, that the system he believes in has released a double murderer, and that there is more than one person who would be happy if Josie Bates was never seen again.

Oh Holly, Stop Filling Your Own Boots and Give Others a Hand

Holly Willoughby-1753437On no, it’s happened again. Another ‘celebrity’ writer, who’s probably written very little in her life before, has launched a series of children’s books.

Holly Willoughby, the very upfront UK presenter of all things shallow and dumbed down, has joined forces with her equally talented sister to inflict her skills upon the unsuspecting pool of readers that we poor, impoverished self-published writers rely so heavily upon.

Now call me a cynic, but I’ll lay odds that her books, whether any good or not, will sell very nicely thank you. They should do because they’ve already been exposed to millions of viewers of various TV breakfast and chat shows. It’s quite a little club that they have going.

I apologise for spitting out vitriol like a geriatric, poisonous adder, but there’s something about this that seems a bit unfair.

Every time one of these well known and well off stars decides to become a ‘writer’ and cash in on a reputation that does not extend to any literary achievement whatsoever, I break out into a nasty rash.

I spend most of my waking hours promoting impoverished self published authors and feel as if we have once more been dumped on from a great height.Wouldn’t it be nice if Holly and the many, many others who have decided to cash in on their name, gave just a little nudge up the ladder to real aspiring authors, instead of continually feathering their own substantial nests.

Oh well, rant over, happy reading – but be careful what you buy
