Mythical Monday: The Ghosts of the Drish House by Mae Clair
A federal style edifice located in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, the Drish House was constructed in 1839 for Dr. John Drish. An affluent physician, Drish moved there with his second wife and his daughter, Katherine, from a previous marriage. Like many old homes, the Drish House is not without its share of legends, a few on the spookier side. One of the home’s most striking features is a large central tower added in the early 1860s—a tower many claim becomes engulfed byflame inthe middle of the night.

Guest Blogger C. S. Boyack on Pre-Research
Not that long ago I stumbled across a blog called “Entertaining Stories,” written by fellow blogger and author, C. S. Boyack. Needless to say, I found CraigBoyack’s observations highly entertaining, and in no time added his blog to my list of regular haunts. Trust me—you need to check it out. He shares interesting reflections, writerly thoughts and slice-of-life stuff. It’s kind of like sitting around in a writer’s café and chatting with the group. You can find Entertaining Stories here.

Mythical Monday: The Burnt Swamp Monster by Mae Clair
Swamps just naturally seem to attract legends of monsters, and the Great Cypress Swamp of the Delmarva Peninsula is no exception. Locals tell countless tales of bizarre events associated with the swamp, dating as far back as the 1920s. According to folklore, two coon hunters were out with their dogs when they heard a horrible inhuman scream. The sound terrified them so much, they ran rather than fire, and were pursued by a large, lumbering creature. They never actually saw the beast, but hear...

Book Tour: Eclipse Lake by Mae Clair #mystery #romance
It’s a new month, thus a perfect time to kick start a new event. Although my novel, ECLIPSE LAKE, was released last summer, I never ushered the release in with any fanfare. As a result, I thought it was high time to take it on a blog tour, and introduce others to Dane, Ellie, Jesse, and Jonah (among the colorful characters who populate my small rural town of Onyx, PA).
Today I am visiting Long and Short Reviews where I’m sharing a post on the importance of setting and what inspired me to creat...

Mythical Monday: Satyrs, From the Old Testament to UFOs, by Mae Clair
In Greek mythology, Satyrs were considered forest Gods, creatures who were half man and half beast. Most commonly depicted as having the upper body of a man with the lower body and legs of a horse, the Satyr has long been a familiar figure in myth and legend.
But is it possible this creature actually existed?
Satyrs are mentioned twice by name in the Old Testament, in the book of Isaiah (Isaiah 13:21 and Isaiah 34:14). Isaiah 13:21 tells us “But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and th...

Are You a POV Snob? by Mae Clair
I’ve resisted writing this post for a long time because I kept deluding myself into thinking the title didn’t apply to me. But I can’t deny the truth any longer.
Yes, friends, I have shameful confession to make: I am a POV snob.
So, what exactly does this wretched trait imply?
I’ve come to realize there is a standard set of guidelines I follow when choosing what to read. At first I wasn’t even aware I was doing it. Then a nasty little light bulb pinged on in my head, and I realized I rarely, if...

Mythical Monday: The Montauk Monster by Mae Clair
If you have even a passing interest in cryptozoology—the pseudo-science devoted to the study of animals that may exist but haven’t been proven to exist—you know that cryptids come in many varieties. From the aquatic Loch Ness Monster to the forest-loving Bigfoot and beings such as the Mothman that lurk around abandoned sites, cryptids haunt different terrains and habitats. Their knack for elusiveness is extraordinary, a testament as to why we only have grainy images, breathless onlooker accou...
