Mae Clair: The Sunshine Award
Hey, everyone and happy Thursday! I’m skipping my maybe-might-become-weekly-haven’t-decided-yetThursday Thirteenbecause I’m excited to say Kathleen Doyle nominated me for the Sunshine Award. Wow! If you haven’t figured it out by now, I tend to get jazzed about these things. Kathleen, thanks so much for thinking of me and my humble blogging haunt.
So how does the Sunshine Award work? ‘Tis fairly simple:
Thank the blogger who nominated you *waving to Kathleen again*
Post the award icon (see above...

Mae Clair: My Shameful Addiction
It began at an early age. My parents made several attempts to intervene and steer me onto the straight and narrow. I believe they thought I‘d grow out of it given time. Later, my husband tried to help me break the habit, suggesting I go cold turkey. Instead, I ended up corrupting him and introducing him to the dark side. You see…I am a chipaholic.
Yes, you heard correctly. Those innocent crisps of potato and salt are my downfall. Before you roll your eyes and reach for an Utz,allow meto put th...

Mae Clair’s Mythical Monday: The Banshee
Earthworms and thistles are gathered for portents,
a funeral of the fallen is a soul to collect,
bound to the river by a fragile, pale vision,
are the shards of a life fate failed to protect.
The keening wail of a banshee is said to herald death. The name comes from the Irish “bean sidhe” (or Scottish Gaelic “bean sith”) which relates to a woman of faerie blood. Blessed with foresight, the banshee would often know of a loved one’s demise prior to their passage, and loudly lamented their departure...

Hi, friends! It’s Six Sentence Sunday time.

Mae Clair’s 13 Heroines: From Lady Marian to Clary Fray
Welcome to another Thursday Thirteen! Last week I blogged a list of my thirteen favorite male characters, so it’s only fair this week is devoted to the ladies. In the process of putting this post together, I discovered something interesting.
It was effortless to come up with thirteen heroes (I could have easily added more without difficulty) but, when it came time to pick heroines, I had to do some digging. I even poked around in my bookcase, and realized that while there were titles I could l...

Mae Clair: The Problem WIP…Phoenix or Pyre?
What do you do with the story that refuses to settle into a niche? Resurrect it in a new form, or toss it onto the pyre of works that won’tever see the light of day?Case in point: I’ve been nurturing a manuscript for over twenty years that has been throughmetamorphosis upon metamorphosis.
Back ‘in the day’ I wrote a novella called HERALD OF THE STORM. Today, it would classify as urban fantasy. Back then, I viewed it as magical realism (though that line is still blurry to me). It had a seventee...

Mae Clair’s Mythical Monday: Faerie Rings
Wild Magic, Twilight Magic,
fey your folk were named,
but I bequeath the Elfin Lords,
a rekindling of their flame.
Did you ever happen upon afaerie ring?
When I was a kid, living at home, we had a beautiful mushroom ring that sprouted in the front yard. It was fairly large, but only two-thirds of the way formed as if the faerieshad beeninterrupted before they could finish building their gateway between worlds. I remember waking up and going outside, thrilled to discover that arc of pale mushrooms...

Author Spotlight: Donna Cummings
Hello, and welcome to another Author Spotlight. Today, I’m welcoming author, Donna Cummings, to my blog. I first discovered Donna’s writing when she did a guest post on another blog discussing LORD MIDNIGHT, a wonderful romantic escapade with a dashing highwayman and a feisty, yet beguilingly innocent heroine. When I finished reading Donna’s post about the book, I immediately jumped over to Amazon and purchased it. Donna has a wonderfully engaging style of writing but I’ll let her tell you ab...

Thursday 13: Aloysius Who?
Happy Thursday, friends! I recently discovered a new reason to be excited about this particular day,a weekly meme called Thursday Thirteen. Each week you blog a list of thirteen items – - any items – - of your choice. Imagine! So many topics, so many possibilities! For my first Thursday 13, I thought I’d start with a subject everyone can easily relate to,thirteen favorite male literary characters. Yes, male, because I’m dividing them in two weekly sessions.
So, here’s my list of my thirteen in...

Ambush Attack!
It happens when you least expect it. In my case, it was a beautiful sunny day with a sliver of breeze and low humidity, perfect for lazily floating on a raft in the pool. Blissfully unaware that danger lurked, I reached for the gate when it happened – - zap! I still don’t know what stung me (I never saw the nasty little insectoid) but it left a marked impression as I danced around like a cartoon character, holding my hand and cursing. Ouch, ouch, ouch! My husband had the foresight to tell me...
