Antonio is worth the wait…

A quick update on Wrecked With You!As everyone in the world knows, things are crazy right now. Everyone is under a lot of stress and dealing with a variety of issues resulting from the global pandemic, some huge and some only minor inconveniences.Like everyone, my family and I have been dealing with the pandemic’s fallout, and unfortunately, that means also making some decisions I would never have been faced with in a pre-COVID world.I hate adding another inconvenience into your lives, but I would hate even more to deliver a book that is not the product that I want it to be. For that reason, in order to make sure you have the best reading experience possible, the release date for Wrecked With You is moving by one week to May 26.I absolutely love Emma and Antonio. Their story is hot and fun and it deserves to hit your devices and shelves exactly as I envision it. You deserve my best, and in order to make sure I deliver it, I need a few more days. Thanks for your patience!  (And the good news is that if you haven’t pre-ordered yet, you have one more week. Ha!)And here’s a sexy snippet  to tide you over!
She bit her lip and made the kind of whimpering sound that he wouldn’t have expected from a woman with the kind of hardened resume that Emma had.
The dichotomy of exceptional operative and needy woman made him want to sink inside her. To own her. It would be so easy. Just tug her onto his lap. Watch her eyes as she rode him.
Christ, he wanted that. But not yet, he told himself. Not just yet.
Instead, he wanted to make her melt. He wanted to take her to the edge.
He wanted her to beg, and not only because he knew that in the end the anticipation would make the pleasure that much more intense for her, but because he wanted the satisfaction of knowing that he could. She’d put herself in his hands. He intended to make very, very clear that she’d made the absolute right decision.

Outlander, Time Travel, and Escapism…

Graphic that reads

Raise your hand if you’re watching or planning to watch the newest season of Outlander. {{Thrusts hand into the air}}

via GIPHY

I haven’t started it yet—I’m weird about the whole book-to-movie/TV thing—and so even though I’ve read all of the books at least once (and Outlander itself at least five times), I’m compelled to re-read The Fiery Cross before diving into the new season. And in re-reading, I remembered how much I love time travel stories … and why Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber will always be my favorites, especially Dragonfly since it (spoiler alert) has so much of the time travel component. (Fortunately, I also love historical fiction, especially romance, so the entire Outlander series is a blast, even if no one is being flung through time, simply because of Claire, Roger, and Brianna’s perspective on the world.

Back around the turn of the millenium, I read a lot of Scottish time travel starting with one I still adore by Dee Davis—Everything In Its TimeWe were critique partners at the time, so I had the pleasure of reading it even before it was published. That book is what turned me on to Outlander, and from there I pretty much read all time travel romances I could find. (And any time travel or time-altering fiction, actually.)

ICYMI, I talk about Outlander, Time Travel, and Escapism in my most recent column over at Frolic!  Head on over and check it out!

Book Release Nerves…

Graphic that reads

I spent much of the weekend with butterflies in my stomach. Why? Because I just wrapped up the ARC (Advance Reader Copy) of the first book in a brand new trilogy that is launching in September.

My Fallen Saint by J. Kenner

Over a hundred published books under my belt, and still I’ve got those New Book Butterflies. Apparently, it never stops.

The thing is, it really doesn’t ever stop. Those butterflies are persistent little buggers, and they show up for each and every book I write. Sometimes, though, they’re not small, lazy little things. Sometimes it’s a hoard of bat-sized butterflies.

In this case, the butterflies are about the size of pterodactyls.

I love all by books and all my characters, but some books just have more riding on them, for whatever reason. My very first book, Nobody Does It Better, published twenty years ago by Harlequin Temptation had me more nervous than the first time I appeared in court to argue a summary judgment motion for my client. (Probably proving that, yes, leaving law to write full time was the right decision.)

The Hazards of Writing Sexy Books…

Graphic that reads

Writing sexy books is not for the faint of heart. And not even because of the inevitable questions about your research methods, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Since we can all use a few laughs these days, I thought I’d share some of my most memorable I write those books moments with you.

To this day, my favorite is when my daughter was in middle school about the time that I started writing as J. Kenner, a brand that is significantly steamier than my previous Julie Kenner books. Release Me had just come out, and Random House was marketing it as being very much in the vein of Fifty Shades of Grey.

Release Me by J. Kenner

This wasn’t something I’d directly told my then-sixth grader, but she’s a bright kid and had obviously picked up on that from conversations around the house. I should add that I live in a small Texas town that was much, much smaller seven years ago.

So …
