Review of Innocent Monsters by Barbara Doherty

Review of Innocent Monsters by Barbara Doherty

Review Rating:
[image error] Due to the content of this story it is an adult fiction book, not for young adults.
The author of this book contacted me via my Facebook page and asked if I would read the first chapter of this book, with a view to reviewing the book itself. The first chapter, albeit hard to read due to its content, made me agree instantly to read the book.
Jessica Lynch is an author, she writes about what she knows, which doesn't make for easy reading. Her sister Kaitlyn dies suddenly, and Jessica's life is thrown upside down.
Jessica is struggling with her sisters death when along comes William Blaise, seemingly out of the blue, with an offer she cannot refuse. Is the meeting a coincidence though, or something more?
Jessica and William become friends, leading to them becoming lovers. But both are damaged, both have secrets.
The reader learns a little more about the childhood stories these two went through, but Jessica and William themselves are not aware of quite how similar their early lives were.
Throw into the mix Jessica's editor, Roger Wither, and a policeman looking into Kaitlyn's death, Charles Brown.
Jessica and William struggle through, spending more and more time together. However, on meeting Jessica's friend Lisa, William pulls away a bit, puts distance between them, and stays away.
Lisa speaks to Jessica about William, and from then on in the revelations as to what exactly happened to Kaitlyn shocked me. I honestly didn't see it coming, had no clue as to where the story would go. The author did very well hiding it until the precise moment she shared it.
This author first wrote the story when she was just 16, and she wrote it in Italian, which is her first language. Later she decided to translate it, and Innocent Monsters was born!
This isn't an easy book to read, not for the book itself, but due to the type of story it is, and the previous lives of the main characters. But it is a well written, well put together story which comes together extremely well.
It is not the kind of story you can pick up and read a little at a time. It is a story which draws you in, makes you want to know what will happen to the characters.
I am impressed that this is a first novel from someone who wrote it when she was so young, and whose first language isn't even English! Grammar is very important to me, and I could find no problems whatsoever in her writing within this book.
I look forward to seeing more from this author, one to look out for in the future.

Medusa Birthday Bash @sashawrites #MedusaBB #LovesofOlympus

“Medusa” Birthday Bash TourBy Sasha SummersBlog Tour Media KitApril 19 – May 12
[image error] It's said love can change a person. Medusa wasn't always a monster...
Medusa is ruled by duty, to her Titan father and the Goddess Athena. She's no room for the tenderness her warrior guard, Ariston, stirs. When Olympus frees her from service, her heart leads her into the arms of the guard she loves... and curses her as the creature with serpent locks.
Ariston goes to war with a full heart... and dreadful foreboding. He learns too late of the danger Medusa faces, alone, and a Persian blade sends him into the Underworld. But death, curses, nor the wrath of the Gods will keep him from returning to her.
Poseidon will use Greece's war to get what he wants: Medusa. He does not care that she belongs to another. He does not care that she will be damned. He is a God, an Olympian, and she will be his.

He pulled the wet fabric from her, pressing her to him. As their skin touched, a hoarse gasp caught in her throat. The sound pleased him. “I would hear you, wife, and know that I bring you pleasure.” He regarded her face as her eyes found his. “There are no words…” her voice trembled, the faintest of whispers. He clasped her face and kissed her, losing himself to the feel of her. His hand grasped her hip while his body tightened. Her legs parted in invitation and he moved between them. She moaned as he joined her body, making them one. Once again, his attempt at a gentle union was lost. He pushed into her, sliding deep. Her cry caused him a moment’s hesitation. But the look on her face showed him the truth of it. Pleasure was teasing his lady. And he would help her find it. Her hands clung to his back as he lifted her hips and fit her more firmly against him. He moved, watching her tremble and flush beneath him. Her breathing tore from her, her breasts shuddering as her chest rose and fell with her rampant breathing. When her eyes opened and met his, a cry tore from her lips. Her body tightened and convulsed, and still she cried out. He felt each quiver, each spasm, buried as he was deep within her. And her release forced him over the edge. He moaned as his body stiffened – one long heated contraction of ecstasy – as he filled his wife. His passion left him trembling upon her. He lifted himself, to lessen her burden, but her leg tightened about his hips. “I’ll crush you, love,” he whispered in her ear. “I won’t mind,” she assured him, breathing heavily still. He looked down at her with a smile on his face. “I would mind. I would keep you safe and happy.” “Keep me here as I am…joined with you,” her voice was husky as her eyes met his. Her love for him sparkled in her huge blue eyes, dazzling him with its simple truth. His voice was raw, “I am favored by the Gods, my lady, to have you.” “As am I, to have you as my lord and husband.” Her fingers traced his jaw. “I please you, then?” he teased softly. He shifted, sliding from her to lie at her side. She frowned at him, making him laugh. He could not tear his eyes from her, but watched as she tilted her face towards him and let her leg slip down, as if exhausted. “You do… I did not know such pleasure existed.” His hand found hers and he lifted it. He kissed the tip of each of her fine white fingers before pressing another to her palm. “What would my lady wife want of this day?” She smiled at him. “This. Only this.”

Sasha is part gypsy. Born June 9, 1974, stories have always played an important role in her life. Her passions have always been storytelling, Hollywood, history, and travel. It’s no surprise that her books include a little of each. Her first play, ‘Greek Gods and Goddesses’ was written for her Girl Scout troupe. She’s been writing ever since. She loves getting lost in the worlds and characters she creates; even if she frequently forgets to run the dishwasher or wash socks when she’s doing so. Luckily, her four brilliant children and hero-inspiring hubby are super understanding and supportive.

Review of Pawn (The Nightmares Trilogy #1) by Sophie Davis

Review of Pawn ( The Nightmares Trilogy #1) by Sophie Davis

Rating: [image error] I have previously read, and reviewed, the Talented series by this author. I wasn't sure what to expect from this book when I stared it as it was so different to the Talented books. Even after a few chapters I still wasn't sure about it. To say I'm glad I stuck with it is an understatement. This book is the start of a trilogy which is shaping up to be one I will definitely be recommending.
Endora Lee has just turned 18. She is having a surprise get together with her friends when something happens, and she sees things she can't explain. She also meets Kannon, who appears as if from thin air.
Kannon seems to know things about her, and he begins to appear to Endora in her dreams.
Endora starts to have visions, some of which come true. She also has dreams, which become nightmares, and has a sense that something is going to happen, something bad.
Endora's dad has been away from the family for years, but always calls on her birthday. This year is different though, and in trying to find out what has happened to her father she meets the owner of a local eaterie, Henry Haverty, who knows him.
Through this chance encounter Endora eventually finds out a lot more about her father, herself, and what it was that made him leave. She delves deeper into her background, and her father's life as well, and discovers a lot more than she dreamed of. What she finds out about herself shocks her, but she tries to accept it and find out more.
She has help, along the way, from her best friend Devon and Kannon, who she becomes much closer to.
I liked that this story was different to others of the same genre I have read. The mythology behind the story is good and drew me in. The writing is good, as I have come to expect from this author. It is also totally different to the authors other series. This is a story about destiny, and in particular the ability to change a predetermined destiny.
Endora and Kannon have quite a journey ahead of them, and I cannot wait to see what happens to them. I was already a fan of Sophie Davis and this series looks set to strengthen my love of her stories.

Morrigan took out a white candle and a stick of dragon blood incense, and set them up in the corner of the room. She sat cross-legged, and leaned forward to light them. No matches were necessary. No lighter either. She simply touched her finger to the end of the wick, and with an iridescent spark, the candle flickered to life. It shone at first with a bright blue flame that gradually settled into a more normal orange. It was the same with the incense—another reason why she preferred not to have an audience. She stared into the candle for a moment, and took a few deep breaths to clear her mind of all thoughts but those of the magic she intended to perform. Danu and Dagda sat on either side of her, instantly falling into silence, as though they knew she needed her complete concentration. Their energy beside her only seemed to add to the growing sense of power that charged the room.Morrigan closed her eyes and began to shuffle the cards. As she did, she allowed her breathing to become more even. A silence filled the room as the rest of the mortal world fell away. Soon the only sound she heard was the light thump of her own heartbeat, echoed by the quicker, fast paced beat of the cats’ hearts. She wasn’t sure how much time passed as the cards slipped through her fingers. It might have been minutes. It might have been hours. When she allowed herself to fall into a trance, time became insubstantial, irrelevant.

Laura “Luna” DeLuca lives at the beautiful Jersey shore with her husband and four children. She loves writing in the young adult genre because it keeps her young at heart. Broken Prince Cover Reveal @jen_wylie

Title: Broken Prince (Book 2 of The Broken Ones)Author: Jen WylieGenre: New Adult, FantasyReveal Host: Lady Amber's Tours
[image error] Sometimes, when you're broken, you can heal on your own. Sometimes, you need the help of your friends, your family, and the people you love. Keeping those pieces together when the world seems intent on ripping you apart is the greatest challenge of all. Especially when the ones you love, the ones who hold you together, start falling apart themselves.Arowyn and her family continue on their journey to return the Elven Prince, Shael, to his homeland before he fades and dies. A journey full of triumph and horror, love and sorrow, rips them apart with every fighting moment, and yet brings them together as a family. They don’t allow the prophecy to rule their lives. Some don’t believe, some don’t care.  Prophecies aren’t written in stone. Events can change. People can change. They are only words. From besieged cites, to the elusive Were and wild Fey, nothing quite prepares them to face their deadliest of enemies, one they didn't know existed.
Damon knelt before them."Will she get better? Will she…" Prince’s voice trailed off.Her eyes locked on Damon’s face as he regarded her thoughtfully. His hand came up and she flinched as it rested on the top of her head. No pain came. She felt…nothing. If he tried to speak to her, she couldn’t hear him."No," he said finally. "There has been damage to the brain. There is bleeding and swelling inside."Prince’s cry startled her, almost as much as the sudden clutching of his arms around her. "Can you do anything," he choked out. "Please, I am responsible. I can not…I will pay–"Damon chuckled. "It is not your life that needs saving." He stared at Prince for a long moment. "I see." He shook his head. "Perhaps I was wrong and she isn’t the one. I read so few pages of the book." He turned to Kei."No," the Fey said. "I don’t remember.""Pity.""Dragos, I beg of you," Prince began again."The Elven prince begs, and for a human. How very far you have fallen." He looked down at her again.Blinking up at him, she tried to get her scattered thoughts to work. She’d barely comprehended what he’d said past the inference she was dying. The words sent an icy chill through her body. Terror crawled through her, speeding her heart. Sweat broke out on her forehead and all she could hear was her increasingly frantic breathing.Kei startled her, leaning forward over her to press a kiss to her forehead. She tilted her head back, trying to see him."I’m with you."Damon’s fingers brushes her cheek, drawing her attention back to him. "Do you wish to live, young Arowyn?"Words refused to pass her lips. Somehow she managed to nod. She didn’t know what the cost would be, certainly there would be one. Right then, she didn’t care. Rot it all, she wanted to live!"Very well." He regarded her thoughtfully for a moment. "Dragos rarely heal others. I do know the magic, but it is difficult. Your story has barely begun. I find I would actually attempt it, just to see what you might become and how it will unfold."He sat back and gestured to the pile of furs next to him. "Lay her down. This will take some time and I’ll need no distractions."Prince carefully set her amongst the furs, arranging her arms so her hands rested on her chest, tucking stray locks of hair behind her ears. Leaning forward, he rested his forehead for a moment against hers."Get well, Arowyn."Bo appeared next, smoothing the hair back on the top of her head and squeezing one of her hands. "You can do this, pup."Garen pressed his wet nose against her temple. If he spoke, she didn’t hear him.Kei pushed the wolf aside and took her face in his hands. His eyes glowed with that strange orange inner light. Tears streaked down his cheeks. Despite the awkward position he leaned down and held her close for a moment. "Remember our promises," he whispered in her. "I’m always with you." He choked on a sob and squeezed her tightly again. "I love you," he whispered fiercely before quickly pulling away. She wished she could speak. More than anything, she wanted to tell him she loved him, too. She wanted to tell all of them she did. Tears filled her eyes and slid down her face.Damon knelt beside her and turned her head to look at him. "I will do what I can," he said. "However I can’t guarantee it will work. I have never tried to heal a human before. Understand?"She managed a faint nod and pressed her quivering lips together. He glanced up and gestured the others away. "Stand back and be silent." His eyes found hers again. "Don’t fight me this time, little one. Fall into my eyes…"Blinking once more to clear the tears away, she tried to do as he asked. Damon’s eyes were strange enough she found it not difficult to stare. They had vertical slits and no whites at all. The iridescent color was a wash of blue-green with streaks of gold and red. The colors began to swirl, making her dizzy as she tried to watch them. A comforting thrum emanated from his chest, soothing her as his power wrapped around her. Her thoughts drifted into nothing.

Brenda Sparks Double Whammy Blog Tour @brenda_sparks #giveaway

Title: Weaver of Dreams
Author: Brenda SparksGenre: Fantasy RomanceTour Host: Lady Amber's Tours
[image error] When guidance counselor Maggie O’Connell is plagued by terrible nightmares, she believes stress is the reason for her torment, but she couldn’t be more wrong. Unfortunately for Maggie, in the shadows of her dreams lurks a Dream Stalker who is addicted to the dark emotions produced by her night terrors.

Zane, a Dream Weaver from another dimension, visits Maggie in her nighttime fantasies to discover there is more than just a Dream Stalker after her. As the man of her fantasies becomes real, Maggie’s true nightmare begins.

US || UK

Zane glided over the tall grass, letting the tips brush the bottom of his energy as he floated through the warm air with ease. A pleasant sensation, the grass felt like something between a tickle and a massage as he went. Like all Dream Weavers, in this dimension he was pure energy that took the shape of a ball of light.
His essence flowed over the land, and he could not help but admire the scenery as he passed through. He noted the way the purple and burgundy flowers mixed with the royal blue florae to form colorful waves in the tall emerald-colored grass. Appreciating their beauty as he passed, he flowed through a copse of harlequin-patterned trees with black and white diamond-shaped leaves. The splendor of the nature around him went undisturbed until the breeze blew to send the plants swaying in a gentle rhythm and make the shiny leaves of the trees sparkle as they shook.
A tingling sensation stopped him. He recognized the sensation, had been exposed to this before; a long time ago, during his training to become a Peacemaker. This was the steady pulsing sensation created by negative energy.

Dream Weavers fed from the emotions of humans and negative reactions such as fear and anger fed them in a way unequaled by positive emotions. However, they discovered that those negative emotions were addictive, causing those of their kind who fed on them to become unstable. After only a few feedings, the Weavers developed an insatiable appetite for the negative feelings, abusing the human hosts they fed from.
His essence bobbed with anticipation. It had been decades since any of their kind defied their laws, especially the First Law which prohibited negative feedings. Their society considered it their most valued law, one meant to be obeyed above all others. As a Peacemaker, he was tasked with policing his fellow Dream Weavers, making sure they followed the laws set forth by the Ruling Council.
He needed to inform the Council about what he sensed, so they would know one of the Weavers turned rogue.

Daelyn never believed in things that went bump in the night but is more than willing to be seduced by the sexy vampire who marks both her body and soul. Will Ky be able to keep them both alive long enough to prove that vampires and demons can be so much more than friends?
US || UK

He ghosted behind the couple. Following them on silent feet, staying deep in the shadows of the buildings. Ky noted the way the woman walked as they made their way along the sidewalk. Her legs appeared unsteady, most of her weight supported by the male’s arm around her waist, which seemed strange because she had not consumed all that much alcohol at the bar. Only two glasses of wine, by his count. The agent heard her speaking throughout the night and she had enunciated clearly. Yet now she seemed unsteady, and her words slurred as they left her lips.
She stumbled. Catching on a bit of raised sidewalk, her shoe flew off behind her in Ky’s direction. She turned and looked over her shoulder. When her eyes met his, Ky’s heart hitched in his chest, time froze.
The bronzed skin of her heart-shaped face appeared flawless. Long dark haired flowed around her shoulders with the turn of her head. Her chocolate eyes captured his, holding his gaze. The fall of her lashes broke the spell, creating dark crescents on her delicate cheekbones. Her petite nose led to full, pouty lips that sent a surge of desire through his body. His sure strides faltered under the weight of her beauty. She was a goddess.
And she was in grave danger.

Just Horsin' Around

Today is a freebie day over here on the blog, so I'm just playing around. Honestly I'm posting this JUST so I can test some things on my NetworkedBlogs account (because I'm having some double posting issues on my Facebook author page).
I was thinking...why don't I make the most of this? I know I already have one giveaway running, but why not a second one? I have a Love During Death wifebeater that needs a home. I honestly don't remember off the top of my head what size it is (either L or XL). I've got some massive moving to do this weekend, so why don't we run this until midnight, Sunday night (the 28th)?
Here's what you gotta do. Send as many friends to my Facebook blog page as you can, and have them like it. Also - and this is the kicker - they HAVE to comment on the page, telling me who sent them! You only get credit for it IF they tell me you sent them!
Alright! Who's excited?! I'm always excited to give stuff away.

READY?????????????????????????????????????????GO!
