Taking Angels #Review @CSYelle

Britt Anderson went along with everything the doctors said for nearly four years, but she was still dying at eighteen. The cancer had won leaving her without a future, without any options, and without control. No control, except for how she would leave this world. As Britt tries to end her life by going into the frigid waters she realizes her mistake. She struggles to get back to shore, to cry out for help, but her atrophied muscles are useless and the frigid water steals the breath from her chemo-scarred lungs. Despite her father’s attempts to reach her, she flies over the waterfall.
When Allister Parks finds Britt’s fragile body on the riverbank something calls out to him. Ignoring the warnings of his sister, Allister brings Britt back from the edge of death. The only problem is that an Eternal like Allister isn’t allowed to touch those who have already passed from this world. It is forbidden; an infraction punishable by death.

As Britt relishes her new cancer-free life and senior year of high school, her very existence threatens Allister’s place in this world. Allister struggles to keep Britt a secret from the Eternal Council and out of the hands of the only Eternal who already knows the truth: the one who stole her guardian angel. Britt is eighteen years old and dying of cancer. A trip to the lake with her parents and a crazy "accident" lead her to a whole different death experience. Suddenly, she is in the hospital - uninjured and cancer free. On top of that, she can heal others. But that is just the tip of the iceberg, as she discovers she is indeed different than she has ever been. She comes across two new siblings in town, Allister and Angelina, and she is certain that they have something to do with her miraculous healing at the lake. They are now all connected in a wondrous way, and they, along with some others, must stick together to ensure that bad triumphs over evil.

This book had so much going on. The action never stopped. I particularly liked the fact that Britt was connected to Kendal and could see his actions through her dreams. It gave the word creepy a whole new meaning. Whether they were plotting against the bad guys or trying to avoid capture, it was a constant thrill ride. I loved the Guardian Angel/Eternal theme, and the relationship between Britt and Allister was great. They were so dedicated to each other. All of the characters were so real. C.S. Yelle does it again for me..and I love it!

I give Taking Angels by C.S. Yelle 5 Stars. Awesome read!

“Gather ‘round people and you shall hear about a bunch of bullshit that is clear. Of riders and horses and monsters too; your parents lied - they can still get you. Hardly anyone who was there is aliveto dispel the rumor, uncover the lies, but there was more than one man who rode that dayand more than just Redcoats who got in their way.”
Along the way, Longfellow lost something in his translation it seems.
Everyone has heard of the French and Indian War and the American Revolution. However, they have not heard about them this way! The American founding fathers had a lot more to deal with at the end of the 18th century than tariffs and tea; avoiding hurled trees from Wendigos and gargoyles falling from the sky took a lot of patience. How is Samuel Prescott supposed to hunt the leader of the Rippers when the British keep infringing upon the colonists’ rights?

Boone was sure he heard Revere scream as the zombie Forbes charged at them. On his way, Forbes took a nice hearty bite out of an off duty soldier who happened to be nearby. “Grullarrk,” the soldier said clearly before falling to the ground.

Forbes Zombie was fast. A hell of a lot faster than Forbes was in real life. How the heck did that work out, Boone wondered. Oh well. He unslung his double-barreled reverse musket, an invention of Revere; the guy was good for something, thought Boone as he fired and turned his former commanding officer’s head into a floating cloud of red mist. He then flipped the release on his musket, spun the barrels so that the fired barrel faced back and the loaded faced forward, and he vaporized the downed soldier’s head as well just to be sure. He wasn’t about to let any zombies rise on his watch.

“Everybody to the wall,” Fraser ordered. It seemed that Boone’s gunfire and the shrieking had alerted the remaining werewolves, who were apparently done feasting on the French and wanted to upgrade to a little English breakfast.

“Zombies and werewolves,” whined Revere. “I sure hope no vampires show up.”

“Vampires?” Boone countered. “What are you, a child? Vampires aren’t real.”

“They’re not?” asked Revere.

“No - vampires are just a myth. But dragons, dragons will fuck your shit up,” said George Washington.

Pete Clark likes writing, animals, potato chips, and cheese. Thunderstruck Book Blitz @authorldeluca

 Title: Thunderstruck
Author: Laura DeLuca
Genre: Paranormal Romace
Blitz Host: Lady Amber's Tours
Taranis, the Celtic god of Thunder, has spent an eternity longing for the touch of a single mortal woman. He has followed her through incarnations, but always his powers were too much for her to bear.
Tara is a deaf woman, struggling to fit in the hearing world. She hides a gentle heart behind a tough exterior. Will she let down her defenses when a handsome mute tries to win her heart?
And even if she does, can Taranis’ love come without a death sentence?

Taranis watched Tara climb onto her moped. She ran her fingers through her short black hair before pulling on her helmet. Mortals would never have been able to see so clearly, but even from across the street he could make out every detail of the art that was etched across her muscular yet feminine arms. They were drenched in color from the corner of her shoulder to the tips of her elbows. On one arm he saw a frog and a crow alongside the Puerto Rican flag, which was the heritage she had chosen in this new life. There was even a flamenco dancer adorned in a pink and green gown, forever frozen in her graceful dance. The other arm displayed a garden of colorful flowers— roses and lilies in blue, black and orange. Taranis imagined the fragrance of those flowers would be more intoxicating than any within the earth because they were drenched in her natural scent. He also noticed that mixed in among the tattoos that spoke of her Latino heritage; there was also a Celtic tribal band wrapped around her left ankle. Taranis knew it was a sign that a part of her was still drawn to the life she had lived before—the life he had been a brief but traumatic part of.

Taranis pushed the negative memories away. This was a new era. A new world. One where anything was possible. There were times when the magic of technology seemed to dwarf the powers of the gods themselves. First sign language and then computers with their artificial voices had made it much easier for Taranis to blend in among the mortals. Taranis especially loved the women of the twenty-first century. They were so bold and fearless, unafraid of demanding equality from their male counterparts. Tara was a prime example of that feminist drive. It seemed in each life time, she grew even stronger and more durable. He admired her strength and perseverance, but he also saw the sad and lonely woman she hid beneath the tough and snarky façade.

For two years he had watched her, yearned for her, but he was biding his time and building her trust. He had interacted with her in his human guise. Yet, he hadn’t given into the temptation to pursue anything more than a casual friendship, even though her smile insinuated she was open to more. He knew it was fear that restrained him. Each time he thought about romantic innuendos, he remembered Calista lying dead in his arms with blood dripping down her pale neck. Still, he hungered for Tara with a passion unlike anything he had ever known. He had waited centuries for her to return to him after his failure with Calista. He was sure that in this new world where their paths had finally crossed again, he would find a way to make her love him. He didn’t want to risk her life, but Taranis had a secret hope. He believed the very characteristic that she considered her greatest flaw would be the one thing that ensured their happiness in this life and all that followed.

“I'm Jesca. I have intense nightmares nightly and hallucinations of dark auras closing in on me daily. Strangers’ faces distort before my eyes and I hear voices in my head. All symptoms of insanity, ‘illusions in reality’, right? Wrong. This is my reality and it has been set askew.”
Jesca Gershon Sera discovers that she is part of a legacy and a fellowship of guardians destined to protect the human race from a galactic event that will invade and evolve our world.

I recently read both Piercing the Fold and Surfacing the Rim by Venessa Kimball. I really liked how in depth her characters were. I also like the twist that you learned with the main character and not in advance of the main character. There are plenty of plot lines left to follow to lead to many more books in the series. I would like to see more action in the battle especially the EPIC Battle. I give this 4 stars because I see so much potential in future books and look forward to reading them.

Starving Blades #Review @NatashaAWetzel

Intoxicated, depressed, cynical and alone. Sounds like an ending rather than a beginning and Angelique Le'Count thought so too. Until rash thinking sends him in pursuit of his ex girlfriend and spirals him into a chain of events that all point to disaster. Can he remember how to be the man he once was, battle his inner demons, and make the sacrifices to stop it? Considering that there are angry werewolves, crazed demons and snippy spirits, it would seem the world is giving Angelique a run for his money. But this is just the beginning of an Otherworldly Prophecy...

What a great way to start a story by jumping feet first right into the mix! A soldier of God without a purpose with a demon spirit who loves him. Kira, the love of his life has left him. What's a half-breed angel to do?? This is a great start to a new series. Can't wait for the next book. Great read.Reviewed by Bobbi the Book Monster

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. "Treacherous" by L. L. Hunter is a well written suspenseful romance. I couldn't put it down. Not knowing what was going to happen, who Charli was going to pick, this book pulled me in and wouldn't let me go. Full of deception, sex and some murder thrown in for good measure, "Treacherous" is sure to please.
I am giving "Treacherous" by L. L. Hunter four stars. I look forward to reading more by this author.

Protector of Ter Chadain series #Review @CSYelle

“If the true bloodline does not rule Ter Chadain, the Protector shall appear and reclaim the throne for the rightful Queen.”
King Englewood reads the prophecy every day since he murdered the royal family, all of them. Or so he thought. The three year old twins escaped that night thirteen years ago, but his men are closing in to finish the job before they can turn sixteen and activate the magic spell making his worst fears a reality. A Protector in Ter Chadain and a royal heir with claims to the throne he now held.
Logan and Teah Lassain witness the violent murder of their family and narrowly escape. They now find themselves not only thrust into the revolution, but the keys to the reunification of Ter Chadain.
Bestowed with the powers and spirits of past Protectors, Logan must learn to control both before their memories destroy him. Wrenched with anger and the desire for revenge on the man responsible for decimating his life, King Englewood, Logan must keep to the path of greater good and gather support for the revolution from the dukes and duchesses of Ter Chadain.
Teah is trained by the Zele Magus, an order of sorceresses, to control and accept her newly discovered magical powers enabling her to take the throne. Struggling, she must also ask the question…what happens when there are two Protectors of Ter Chadain? Two Protectors are not foretold in the prophecies…King Englewood is dead. Logan Lassain, the Protector of Ter Chadain, has cleared the way for his sister, Teah, to claim the throne as the rightful Queen of Ter Chadain and cast out the invading Caltorian forces.
But Teah cannot claim that throne. She is captive on a slave ship sailing to Caltoria with other magical slaves to have their fates decided by the evil Empress of Caltoria. With Logan in pursuit to free her, Teah must keep her identity as rightful Queen of Ter Chadain hidden until she can escape.
As a slave, Teah’s magical powers are withheld from her by an ancient gemstone placed on her forehead called a “soul stone”. The clear gem darkens in color once placed upon a magical’s forehead indicating the strength of their magic. Teah’s stone darkens to a deep black marking her as the strongest magical in Caltoria since her ancestor, the first Queen of Ter Chadain. This draws unwanted attention and puts her future in great peril.
Logan and his small band of rescuers must hurry. Their quest is difficult. The cost is high. New allies are found. Old friends are lost…forever. Risking death at every turn, they rush to rescue Teah. But the only way Logan can save Teah and keep Ter Chadain from falling under Caltorian rule is by not only risking death, but risking something more precious…his freedom.
I read Book 1 and 2 of the Protector of Ter Chadain series by C.S. Yelle. Since I read them one after the other, I will review them together.
In the first book of this series, Reclaiming Ter Chadain, we meet Logan and Teah, twin brother and sister. Life as they know it is quickly interrupted when they find out that they are actually very powerful members of the Lassain family, leaders of Ter Chadain. With Teah slated to become the next Queen of Ter Chadain, and both of them being Protectors, these teenagers are forced into positions of power that they never expected. They are being sought by the current King, Englewood, and his Magical Advisor, Caldora. There is so much build-up and excitement in this book with both Teah and Logan's new positions and all that it entails. There is such a vast group of characters, and we get to know them well. They are all so entertaining in their own way. I was absolutely sucked into this story and was shocked at how it ended. I was thankful that I had Book 2 at hand.
In the second book, the story continues with Teah and her friends in the clutches of an unexpected enemy. Logan's goal to get his sister to the the throne is now intensified. He must first save her and bring her back. Unfortunately, they are all headed to Caltoria, where magicals, such as they are, are used as slaves to the Empress. I thought this book was even more action packed then the first. There were even more people introduced as the plot continued to unfold. Both books were wonderfully written and very descriptive. I cannot wait to get my hands on Book 3.
I give Reclaiming Ter Chadain and Black Stones of Ter Chadain by C.S. Yelle 5 STARS...excellent books!

Hell's Phoenix Double #Review @GracenMiller

Hell’s become more than just a playground for the wicked…
Going to Hell was supposed to save Madison, but it didn't work. Knowing she’s dead because of his failure leaves Nix Birmingham only one thing to live for. Revenge. With Micah’s help, he learns to use his Messianic power. Anything for Mads becomes his mantra, even if it means killing innocents to gather the power he needs to succeed. A tsunami he unleashes on a Gulf Coast city is stopped with magical interference, and Nix is more than surprised to feel Madison in the opposing magic. If she’s alive, can he and Micah set a trap to lure her out?
Pandora’s Box…once you open it, there’s no turning back!
Madison has done the unthinkable. She opened Pandora’s Box to save Nix from Hell—and failed. She’s willing to risk her own life to rescue Nix, but she worries about the welfare of her accomplice in the mission, and leaving her son behind. Following up on a lead, she’s ambushed by Nix and Micah. Shocked and hurt to discover Nix has become a willing participant in Hell, she’s more certain than ever she won’t escape the demonic fate her husband outlined for her. While in Hell, she discovers that denying the emergence of her succubus is futile, which means getting Nix out of Hell after embracing her inner demon just became a very real dilemma…

Madison Weskott is going to hell just like her daddy said she would. Her demon King of Hell husband is trying his best to get control of Madison & their son Amos. She is fighting tooth & nail to keep that from happening while trying not to lose her humanity in the process. Very hot & steamy read. Good read.

Bobbi the Book Monster

I am at a stand still. I am not sure which book I have liked more, the first or this one. Sigh it seems that this book may have been more twisted, more mouth wateringly hot than the first. I wasn't even sure if that was possible. But oh boy, how I am so in love with this series.

So as you have already noticed Mad's life is a little chaotic. Yeah, you know she needs to go pay the bills, remember the dry cleaning and go save Nix from his fate in hell while keeping her son Amos safe. Nothing out of the ordinary for this suburban mom lol. I am telling you that I just love her. She is just so strong and deals with everything that life throws at her. She never backs down and is always giving herself for the ones shes loves. I think she is just great. And oh so yummy Nix, he may have a tarnished soul now and he may have done some serious(ok and maybe a couple of hot) hellish things but I can't help but admire him. He would do anything for the one woman that he has ever loved and he proves it over and over again. And I am so sorry, but I find myself crushing on Micah a little after this book. Yes, he did some seriously jacked up stuff but in his own way he did those things out of love. And the tiny tiny tender side you saw of him just melted me a little. But I am still so totally Team Nix. Hey Gracen, I may need a shirt that says that lol.
Yeppers, as you can see I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was defiantly a one sitter for me, I never even put it down. Like I pointed out this story was a little more twisted than the first, you found out all kinds of meat and ewwy things. I found myself sitting there with my mouth hanging open a a couple of times. And I also may have needed a fan and maybe a glass of ice water. Shiver me timbers, this was one steamy book. And yes, I just used a pirate saying, sorry. Once again fantastic writing, constantly kept me guessing and questioning everything. It all just flowed and I don't think there was ever a down time. I can not wait to read the next in this series.

My song for this book: Change by Deftones

Night Visions #Review @elena_gray

Plagued by visions and voices, Samantha Cade must be losing her mind. Until she realizes there's a hidden message waiting to be revealed. Just how, she'll have to figure out.

When Ian Behr reappears in her life, after three years, dormant longing awakens. To survive this turmoil, she'll need to guard her heart.
Will Ian be her doom...or her salvation?
This is a great story of shifters that quickly grabbed my interest! Samantha (Sam) Cade knows nothing about shifters or that they even exist but, she is about to! Good integration of characters. This is Book One of the Night Series. I am really looking forward to Book Two!!!
