While we’re enjoying our family and freedom,we’re going to pause, remember, and say thanks to those who have fought for, and in some cases died in defense of, our country. For without them and their families sacrifices, we wouldn’t have our freedom.

Truth Be Told by Marsha R West

Truth-Be-Told-300dpi1-200x300

In TRUTH BE TOLD, SWAT member Meg Bourland, home in Fort Worth for Christmas, discovers someone is blackmailing her father. His odd refusal to contact authorities forces Meg to enlist the help of her brother and his former LA homicide detective partner, Scott McClaine, to unravel the mystery.

Meg’s attracted to Scott, who’s recovering from a serious injury and must accept he’ll never return to police work. In spite of his desire for Meg, he’s convinced his disability makes a relationship with her out of the question. He wants to protect, but isn’t physically able to, and she doesn’t think she needs protecting.

Will the truth they uncover ruin her father’s career as mayor and destroy the family Meg holds dear? Will Scott & Meg be willing to make the sacrifices real love requires?

EXCERPT

“Dad, glad it’s just you.” Meg’s voice wasn’t as strong as she intended. Her father didn’t respond. Didn’t he hear her? He threw a crumpled paper across the room, and then he sank into the chair behind his desk. His head cradled between his hands.

Adrenalin kicked through her system shooting lightning spikes down her arms. “Dad, is something wrong?” Again, no response. Meg moved further into the study. The pipe smoke smell dimly registered. Was he having a heart attack? She stopped in front of his desk. “Dad?” Almost shouted the word.

“What?” He raised his head, but his gaze darted around the room.

Didn’t he recognize her?

“Meg?” He shoved his hair off his forehead and dragged in a breath. “When did you arrive?” He asked in a voice tight with strain. His gaze never connected with hers.

Not a heart attack. Thank God. She let out a huff of air. “A while ago. Are you all right?”

Her father placed his hands on the desk and straightened into the ramrod posture she’d seen all her life.

“Everything’s fine.”

He used the same word Meg did when things were the opposite of all right.

LettingEvilIn_ByEllieEden-800x1200

Blurb:

When Michael goes on a photographic assignment to Brazil and fails to
return, Kristi and her son fly to Rio de Janeiro, desperate to find him.
Instead she finds that during the cold New Jersey winter, her husband has
spent his time in steamy chat rooms with Nara, a young woman desperate for
attention and involved in the Rio drug world.

As she searches for Michael in exotic but crime-ridden Rio, Kristy finds
herself way out of her league. She turns to Italian-Brazilian Federal Agent
Tony Lamazzo for help. As the harsh truth of her marriage brings a dose of
reality to her life, she finds the temptation of getting closer to the
strong, capable—and totally hot—Tony difficult to resist. She’s in Brazil
on the Day of Dead, a day when Brazilians go wild. Why shouldn’t she go
wild with Tony, for just one night, before returning home to start the new
life alone she’ll have to learn to make for herself?

But when her son vanishes too, Kristi doesn’t know where to turn. Michael’s
affair with drug-dealing Nara has exposed them all to the murderous wrath
of a ruthless drug lord, and while she longs to trust Tony, she can’t trust
his powerful and politically corrupt family. in the dangerous slums and
rainforests of Brazil, the danger mounts for both Kristi and her son, and a
cold-blooded enemy has an agenda of his own. If she trusts Tony, she might
save her son. Or it might just get them all killed…

Excerpt:

Almost unconsciously she turned her head to look at him. As he was sitting
on the step below her, they were almost eye to eye. His half-smile was
sweet. Sexy. It made a shiver run through her. She jerked her gaze away.
Suddenly she felt lost. What was she doing on the beach on a tropical night
with this good-looking stranger? It would be fun to be single, to flirt
with no worries or complications. Was Michael doing that somewhere close
by? Was he having an affair? Maybe her whole family was about to be
shattered, like hers had been when she was not much younger than Josh.
Tears filled her eyes. She dashed [A1] them
away. Then without meaning to, she gave a loud sob. She forced herself to
stop. She hiccuped. Some tourists passed by, carefully looking the other
way. Oh God. What was she doing!

“Kristi,” he said, softly. “Whatever it is, we can figure it out. My
brother, Rafael, is working on finding your husband. He is Deputy Chief of
Civil Police. He’ll do everything anyone could possibly do. We’ll find your
husband.”

Embarrassed, she nodded.

“Come on. Let’s get you back to your hotel,” he said, sounding awkward as
he helped her up.

“I’m sorry I cried like that. I didn’t mean to.”

“It’s OK.”

“I got an email yesterday. It was from Michael. It showed him hugging a
local girl. They were at the beach right here in Copacabana. They looked as
if they were having a ball. I don’t know why he sent it to me.” Again, her
eyes filled with tears. She blinked hard to hide them. “I don’t know what
he thinks he’s doing. How can I ever take him back? I don’t even want him
back. I don’t feel the same way about him. He’s been unfaithful to me for
heaven knows how long. I was an idiot for not noticing. I think my marriage
is over. But what about Josh and the twins?” Now she’d told him all her
problems again. What was wrong with her!

He sighed. “Oh Kristi.” Reaching out, he took her hand tentatively as if
taking hands was not something he normally did. His fingers were hard and
his palm callused. She liked hands like that. A hot quiver ran through her.
She pulled her hand away. Where was she going with this? Was she crazy? A
pang of guilt ran through her. But then she thought about the photo of
Michael and that girl. It seemed her marriage was over. Maybe it had been
over for longer than she thought. She felt as if she hardly knew Michael.
Her husband was a stranger to her.

Of its own accord it seemed, her body leaned toward him. She slipped her
hand back into his. The feel of his hand comforted her. Holding hands was
underrated. She really, really wanted to hold his hand. She could feel the
heat of his body where it touched hers. She longed for him to hold her. She
longed to be able to rely on his strength, to feel safe again. “You’ve been
really nice to Josh and me,” she said. “I feel so strange. What if nothing
was the way I thought it was for all these years?”

“Don’t judge anything now.”

“I didn’t know you did marriage counseling.”

He shrugged. “I only know it from the worst case scenario. If anything good
happens, don’t consult me.”

“Are you married?”

“I was. She left me. It was my fault.”

She was about to ask what happened, when the first big drops of rain pelted
down.

“Want to make a dash for it?” He pulled her to her feet. Fingers locked,
they ran through the drizzle. As they reached the hotel foyer, he let go of
her hand. They stood apart in the brightly lit elevator. Without meaning
to, she again leaned closer to him until her shoulder touched his warm arm.
Self-consciously, she moved away, noticing the muscles of his arms and
chest outlined by his damp T-shirt. Rain pasted her wet T-shirt to her
body. Wondering if he could see her nipples, she pulled the clinging fabric
away from her damp bikini top.

She unlocked the door and walked into the room. They were both wet. For a
moment they just stood, looking at each. Then Tony laughed. “We’d be better
on the balcony. We’re dripping on the carpet.”

“Would you like a hot shower?”

“Not much point. I don’t have anything to change into.”

“Well, at least we can dry off a bit.” She grabbed two of the big, white
towels and followed him out into the night. The air outside was balmy, much
warmer than the air-conditioned room. Steam rose from the wet tiles, but
the patio furniture was dry, protected from the rain by the balcony above.
Tony crossed over to the railing and stood looking at the view, which
Kristi noted was meltingly beautiful; white waves crashing, reflections of
car lights shimmering on rain drenched Avenida Atlantica, the glittering
lights of the favelas on the slopes of the hills and hunched above it all,
the dark, high, jungle-covered mountains.

She handed him a towel and stood watching while he pulled off his damp
shirt and began to dry himself off. He looked so good. He was just so
indescribably hot, and her husband was such an indescribable jerk. As he
turned toward her, she pulled her gaze away from his athletic body and
found herself looking at his mouth. He had a beautiful mouth, lips tilted
slightly up as if he’d never be able to look really angry. She wondered
what it would be like to kiss him. There just seemed to be too much space
between them and she had to close it.

She moved toward him. His eyes, thick lashes still wet with raindrops,
looked into hers. She closed her eyes and turned her face up to his. His
lips touched hers. She knew she hadn’t left him much choice. His mouth was
gentle, his lips warm and firm. She’d imagined a passionate kiss. She
didn’t quite know what to do with a gentle one. His kiss was almost shy.
Warmth throbbed through her. She was hot enough to melt. She longed for him
to kiss her more. She wondered what it would be like to make love with Tony.

He pulled away slightly, his hands holding her upper arms. “You’re so
beautiful.” He stroked a tendril of wet hair back from her cheek. “Your
husband is an idiot.” His eyes were filled with an emotion that sent a
thrill through her. It was so good to feel appreciated, to feel again that
someone thought she was beautiful. He looked at her quizzically. “I should
leave.”

“I don’t want you to leave. I want you to stay.” Unable to resist any
longer, she buried her face in the warm place between his neck and broad
shoulders. She felt so shattered, so lost. Nothing was at it seemed. All
she wanted to do was cling to him, escape from all the bad things that were
happening to her.

“You’d regret it tomorrow,” he said. “There are things you don’t know about
me. I come from a very different world.”

“Rubbish,” she giggled. “You went to Berklee College in Boston. How
different can that be?” Then she shivered, knowing the shiver was because
of him and not the weather.

He took the towel and wrapped it around her shoulders, making a cocoon for
her against his warm body. Without meaning to, she gave a soft moan of
appreciation. She looked up to see if he heard. What if he thought she was
trying to sound sexy? He lifted her long, wet hair, using the nearest end
of the towel to dry the dripping strands.

She looked up at him. “You were right. I shouldn’t have come to Rio. I’ve
landed in such a mess, I...”

Before she could finish the sentence, his lips touched the corner of her
mouth. For a second he hesitated, then his lips closed over hers, warm and
sweet. She clung to him, kissing him passionately, drawing from his
strength, escaping into the feeling of someone caring about her just for
now. She pressed up close against him. Everything about him felt good—his
strong arms around her, his broad shoulders, his hard, lean body.

He responded by holding her tighter and kissing her with more urgency, his
breath quickening. The heat of the kiss and the feel of his body chased
every thought from her head. She could feel the hardness of his groin and
she throbbed with wanting him.
Was she really going to do this? She pulled away. They stood for a
second just looking at each other. His eyes were dark with arousal. How
could she do this? How could she not? The Moroccan-style outdoor sofa
looked incredibly inviting and she sank down into the pillows pulling him
down beside her.

Blurb:

Charlotte Lightwood has one season to find a husband or she’ll be forced to marry her guardian’s loathsome cousin. With no title or dowry, she doesn’t have much hope of making a good match. Sebastian Wilkinson, the Earl of Marley, has been the most eligible bachelor on the marriage mart for more years than he cares to count and is very aware of his duty to marry a woman who will add to the wealth and stature of his title. Sebastian makes Charlotte an offer she can’t refuse: he will pretend to court her to help her attract more suitors in exchange for her advice about which ladies he should pursue. As they work together, their mutual attraction grows. When they realize they just might be perfect for one another, they must decide whether to bow to the dictates of society or follow their hearts.

Excerpt:

Charlotte studied the man standing next to Elizabeth. Something about him instantly drew her to him, something in his confident bearing and the way a mischievous smile played across his lips. Laughter danced in his eyes.

Elizabeth smiled brightly. “Lord Marley, may I present Miss Charlotte Lightwood.” She gestured to Charlotte. “Charlotte, this is Lord Marley.”

Lord Marley took her hand, sending an unfamiliar sensation buzzing through her. They both froze for an instant before he bowed. “It is a pleasure to meet you. Lady Lightwood has assured me you are available for the next dance. Please soothe my nerves by confirming she is not mistaken.”

Elizabeth nudged her, and in a whisper that could surely be heard on the other side of the ballroom, said, “Lord Marley is one of the most eligible bachelors on the market this season. He requested the introduction, though I can’t imagine why.”

Heat rushed to her cheeks. “I am not engaged, my lord.” She surreptitiously glanced around them to see if anyone had heard Elizabeth.

Lord Marley clenched his jaw before leading her onto the dance floor. When the warmth of his touch penetrated the fabric of her gown, she inhaled the scent of sandalwood with a hint of citrus, and her pulse thrummed. She couldn’t prevent herself from flashing him a smile. The noise of the ballroom faded into a harmonious cacophony as they settled into the waltz.

Overly wealthy, overly charming, overly good-looking, he could have any woman he desired. As she lacked both title and dowry, she could think of no reason why Lord Marley would have any interest in her. She narrowed her eyes.

Lord Marley nodded to the couples surrounding them, but when he met her gaze, his serene countenance disappeared. “Why do you look at me with such abhorrence? I assure you I have no nefarious designs upon your person.”

“I’m certain you have no designs, nefarious or otherwise, upon my person.”

He smiled widely, but made no response.

She lifted her brows. “Which begs the question, my lord, why did you request to dance with me?”

He deftly swung her away from a collision with an encroaching couple. “Miss Lightwood, you are one of the most beautiful and sought-after ladies in attendance. I merely seek my turn to be the object of your attention. You must stop frowning at me or everyone shall think I’ve said something inappropriate.” His knee brushed against her leg through the thin silk of her gown, and the intimate touch sent a shiver through her.

Though she couldn’t discern what he might want from her, she knew she couldn’t afford to alienate one of the richest and most powerful men in London. She softened her expression and immediately became lost in his clear blue eyes.

His gaze captured and held hers for several heartbeats before he cleared his throat and spoke again. “I have a proposition for you.”

Her breath caught in her throat. She couldn’t fathom anything he might offer that would be proper for her to accept.

“I thought perhaps we could be of assistance to one another.” He studied her face as if waiting for a response.

Charlotte swallowed. “Please continue.”

“I have heard that you are coming out under less than ideal conditions.” He inclined his head, and she nodded in agreement. Less than ideal was certainly one way to put it. “I propose to show you my favor, which will attract the attention of other suitors.”

She stiffened. “They will think you are courting me.”

His smile widened. “Exactly, and they will view you as a potential match because of my regard.”

An image of Horace popped into her head. “I agree to your proposition.” She held her breath, hoping her quick response hadn’t made her appear desperate.

Lord Marley laughed, a sound as crisp and refreshing as the first autumn breeze. “Wait. I haven’t finished yet.”

Her stomach dropped, and she took a deep, steadying breath. “Of course there’s more. What do you expect from me in return?”

“You needn’t look at me with trepidation. I saw you speaking with Princess Tarasova earlier, and thought you might be willing to assist me with my plans to court her.”

His words left an indelible gash on her heart. Of course he couldn’t actually court her, and the princess was an obvious choice for him, but it still hurt to hear him say it so pragmatically. “What, precisely, do you expect me to do?”

He shrugged. “Give me some insight into her, what she likes and dislikes. Provide me with the type of information that will assist me in winning her hand. Information that other suitors won’t have.”

She studied him before responding. She would be foolish to refuse him, but she felt a pang of guilt over feeding him information about the princess, the only person who had made any attempt to show her friendship since she’d arrived in London. In fact, if it hadn’t been for her kindness, Charlotte would have run from the ball after those girls made such disparaging remarks about her. On the other hand, Lord Marley’s attention would attract the notice of other men and could be her only chance to avoid having to marry Horace. “I believe I shall need more time to consider your proposition.”

“Naturally,” he agreed.

The music had stopped, and they were the only ones still standing on the dance floor. Lord Marley took a step back from her, tucking her arm through his and escorting her to Elizabeth.

“Until we meet again, Miss Lightwood.” He bowed and kissed her hand. Excitement fluttered in her stomach.

The moment he left her side, three other gentlemen approached Elizabeth for an introduction. After more than an hour of nonstop dancing, Charlotte had to acknowledge that Lord Marley’s plan could work.

A killer is closing in on the woman Marcus is supposed to protect. Guarding the beautiful Chris is his job—and he’s one of the best—but keeping her close without letting her inside, makes it hard to protect his heart.

EXCERPT

Chris parked in front of the office of Lost and Found, Inc. and debated whether this was a good idea or a waste of time. Why had Dalton thought she should talk to these people? Could they really help her? The police department hadn’t been able to. She got out of the car, still unsure. She turned, paced a few steps, and then reversed direction.

“If you need help, you’re at the right place.”

She jammed her hand inside her purse, locked her fingers around the butt of her Glock, and whirled toward the male voice.

A mountain of a man smiled down at her. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to surprise you.”

He stood too close, so Chris stepped backward. Something moved at her feet, and her gaze honed in on the dog looking up at her.

“Are you okay?” The tall stranger moved closer, reaching out as if to touch her arm.

“I’m fine.”

He dropped his hand, and she breathed a little easier. The beautiful dog lay down at her feet.

The man motioned with his hand. The dog immediately moved and stood at his master’s side. “Good dog.”

“Does he bite?” She kept a close eye on the animal.

“Not unless told to. Offer him the back of your hand and let him get your scent.” The man leaned down and scratched the dog’s ears. “Go ahead.”

Chris cautiously did as he suggested. The dog sniffed briefly and then rewarded her gesture with a lick. Her heart melted a little. “Aren’t you handsome with your bright red bandanna?” She sank her fingers into the brown and white scruff around his neck. “What’s his name?”

“Diablo. And you are?”

“Not sure I should go in.” Chris still had second thoughts about bringing strangers into her problem. She hoped Dalton was right about this organization.

“Well, Not Sure, you won’t know unless you go inside.”

Tall, tan, and broad-shouldered, he reached around her and pushed the door open. His muscles flexed, stretching his white shirt sleeve to the max. Cool air caressed her face. His scent, clean and masculine, filled her senses.

“Coming?” he asked. A smile lifted the corners of his mouth. Head and shoulders taller than Chris, he looked down at her with warm brown eyes. A lock of chestnut-colored hair fell onto his forehead, and he raked it back with a large hand.

“You work here?” She hoped his answer would be yes. His eyes projected a quiet confidence, and the way he carried himself left no doubt that he feared no man.

“Yes, ma’am.”

There was only one way to find out if Dalton had been right about Lost and Found, Inc. “Then let’s do this,” she said.

NoChanceInHell-1600x2400

BLURB

After a drunk driver killed Marcus Ricci’s wife while he was deployed in Afghanistan, he closed up emotionally. Working at Lost and Found, Inc., he lands a puzzling case with too many missing pieces. A killer is closing in on the woman Marcus is supposed to protect. Guarding the beautiful Chris is his job—and he’s one of the best—but keeping her close without letting her inside, makes it hard to protect his heart.

A murderer took the only family Chris Holland had left. When her sister’s killer comes after Chris, she turns to the Lost and Found agency for help. As she and Marcus Ricci dig into her background, they’ll discover surprises that shake everything she believes to be true about her past.

Forced together day and night, passion ignites, and Chris falls for Marcus. He’s a loner and not interested in a permanent relationship. When her case is over, he’ll go back to his solitary life. Just a man and his dog.
