Unwrapping a Marriage

I’m excited to introduce you to a friend I met a few years ago at a conference in Colorado. I was suffering from a case of altitude sickness and Michel Prince was kind enough to hep me out more than once! Terrific woman and author!

Blurb

What do you do when the love that once set you free, feels like it’s holding you prisoner?

Sterling and Elizabeth Jackson have built a life most would envy. A beautiful home, two wonderful children and a very comfortable lifestyle. Yet something is tearing them apart. With divorce looming, they are trying to make it through the holiday season for their family.

With clashing schedules, demands from employers and two busy kids, the former lovers have managed to stay out of each other’s orbit, at least for a while. But Fate, or maybe their well-meaning family, has set them up on a collision course.

Past memories bubble up to the surface and there’s nothing to stem the flow. What once was amazing has turned hurtful and full of pain. But is that the real story? Is it too late for a couple who once lived and breathed for each other to find their way back?

There’s a thin line between love and hate. Will Sterling and Elizabeth be able to mend a love that seems broken and lost, or will the final pull on the holiday ribbon unwrap their last chance to save their marriage.

Excerpt

The woman who’d been twitching, smiled broadly and walked out with Elizabeth back into the auditorium. “Thank you so much, I’m Nicole, I haven’t seen you around at the studio.”

Although the woman wasn’t trying to be hurtful, Elizabeth didn’t need the reminder she’d missed ninety-seven percent of Molly’s dancing career.

“You must be Sterling’s wife.”

“Yes, that obvious?”

“Well, walking in with Molly didn’t hurt, but he’s dressed that woman down more than once.”

“And she’s still acting that way?”

“Not to Sterling.” The woman found a spot and stopped. “Plus, when I asked about Molly’s mom he described a no holds barred sexy red head that fools only cross once.”

“He said that?”

“He also said he was a fool who loved crossing you.”

Elizabeth sat by her mother who’d finally arrived and kept her coat over the chair next to her. The curtain moved on the edge and she saw Molly peeking out and scanning the audience. Elizabeth gave her a reassuring smile, but could see the disappointment on her face. A sharp pain stabbed at Elizabeth’s heart as her daughter put on a brave face. How many more moments was Sterling willing to miss in her life? Turning her head, she searched for Sterling in hopes of finding him for Molly, but no—once again, work takes priority.

The lights lowered in the auditorium and Elizabeth looked back at her daughter who’s face lit up like a Christmas tree before going back behind the curtain.

“Here you go,” Sterling said as he picked up Elizabeth’s jacket and passed it to her before sitting down and resting his carry-on next to his seat. “Beth.”

The music started and Elizabeth turned to hear what Sterling was saying. Heat surged through her body. She’d leaned in closer than expected and she ended up brushing her lips against his. Both former lovers froze. Their eyes locked for a moment. Elizabeth held her breath and Sterling’s eyelids became hooded.

“You need something?” she asked in a hushed whisper pulling back just enough to avoid the contact, but not so far she couldn’t still smell his cologne; dark and manly she’d forgotten how warm it made her feel.

He moved to her ear, this time she knew the graze of his lips wasn’t an accident. “I do,” he replied.

For the first time in longer than she could remember, Elizabeth felt desired. “What would that be?”

“It can wait,” Sterling whispered. “Our baby is coming out.”

Elizabeth’s eyes fluttered as she tried to come back down from the rush of hormones she forgot she had. Sterling drew out the word our and memories of being part of a couple made tears pinprick her eyes. All she needed was contact with Sterling and she’d become overwhelmed by conflicting emotions. Turning her head, she looked down the aisle of seats filled with their parents and son wondering if there was a possibility they could save their marriage. One thing she knew for certain, is they would have to do it. A marriage was between two people, but was the ‘our’ too far gone to save?

He knocked on death’s door, but she refused to let him walk in…

Ty Beckinsale was a dead man…until an angel in red lace saved him and disappeared into the night. Tortured with memories but unable to pursue leads to determine her identity until after he recovers, Ty seeks the assistance of the experts at Achilles HeAl, a private physical rehab facility for the rich and famous. Or in his case, the infamous—an ex-Secret Service Agent hell-bent on avoiding the media. His road to recovery, however, leads him straight to the woman he can’t forget—a woman he vows to protect from a past he can’t leave behind.

Fear consumes her, drives her to build walls no one can penetrate…

Secrets and lies have driven Faith Artino to turn her business into a compound. She’s secure, safe and satisfied with life. Until Ty Beckinsale walks in and knocks down all her barriers with a chemistry she can’t deny. But her fear of betrayal stops her from seizing the moment and from taking what she wants more than anything else—a passion so strong, it can’t be destroyed.

A life-time sentence of loneliness awaits, unless Faith opens her door to the one man who’s stolen her heart.

Here’s the blurb to whet your appetite:

There is no such thing as accident; it is fate misnamed.
Napoleon Bonaparte

Elle Reagan isn’t about to stand by and let a con-artist get away with stealing her grandmother’s life savings. While the legal system moves at a snail’s pace, Elle promises to bring him to justice. She follows him to a ski resort in Colorado, where she hopes to get the evidence needed to put him away for good. But she didn’t count on her roommate being a distraction, because he wasn’t supposed to be her brother’s best friend.
Detective Logan Ford has denied his desire to take Elle into his arms since they were teenagers, but when his partner asks him to follow her to Castle Alainn to keep her out of trouble, Logan finds himself unable to refuse her. He agrees to help catch a thief instead of convincing her to pack her bags and go home. To make matters worse, he can’t seem to remember why he should keep his distance from the delectable, infuriating, independent Elle.
Elle and Logan surrender to their attraction, but as their passion ignites, her plot is discovered. A killer will do whatever it takes to silence her and destroy a love that was destined to last a lifetime.

And now…more about the rest of the stories!

The Noble Pass Affaire books are standalone novellas that take place in beautiful Noble Pass, Colorado. When five different couples meet in an isolated mountain resort for a blind date contest, the sparks–and fun–fly! Romance and passion in five different and wonderful stories!

Here are the rest of the books if you’re so inclined to check them out. And this is a link to our Chick Swagger page with all the book descriptions.

Fun time with MEMEs for promos!

Learning how to create a MEME ( an idea, behavior, or style that spreads from person to person within a culture) has been great fun. Especially since my sixteen year old granddaughter was my teacher! Her mastery of Photoshop is amazing. I can see now why she’s chosen Advertising as her career.

Vicki Batman Shares A Few of her Purse Collection

My Love for all Things Handbags

When Jerrie and I exchanged emails about my guest post on her blog, she asked me to write about my favorite subject—handbags.

Handbags, purses, pocketbooks—sigh. I’ve loved them for a long time. Some people like jewelry. Some sweaters. A lot like shoes. I like shoes, but have a hard time finding some that fit because I wear a 7 narrow. Yeah, baby feet for a five-foot, eight gal.

As a young single girl, I went to flea markets and antique malls with my roomie. We picked up handbags for next to nothing. I took a hiatus on buying them when I was a young married with two kiddoes. Every cent saved was a good thing.

Eventually, I had a little to spend on luxuries, like handbags. Again, my former roomie and I went to our favorite haunts and I found inexpensive bags.

Like most collections, I’ve tossed some over the years and continued to add to it. Jerrie asked me to show my favorites. It was really hard and these by no means are all of mine.

Last year, I became possessed with wanting a turquoise bag in the style of the Kelly bag. I perused ETSY and eBay, but nothing. I went to Amazon and found this Kate Spade in my new favorite color. Originally, the long handle didn’t detach. I took it to the shoe store and they added toggles.

Many years ago, my girlfriends and I went to a craft fair and I found a whole booth of totes made from record album covers. But when I saw Frosty, my heart pounded! He is so joyous. Many people have said they had this album.

12 23 13 Mary frances bag

Isn’t this a beauty? Lots of ribbons, beads, a jeweled clasp. My sisters and I traveled to Las Vegas to celebrate a sissie’s birthday. I found this purse in a shoe shop and actually had to justify buying it. I was sold on the larger size as most Mary Frances bags are small.

An adorable white wicker clutch. Doesn’t hold much and has the palest pink glove leather inside. I spent $3.00 and love carrying it on summer outings.

poinsettia handbag finished

My latest! I adore needlepoint. One year for Christmas, my sister gave me a needlepoint handbag we’d found in an antique mall. My interest grew in needlepoint bags and I bought more. Then I had to make one for myself, which I did. Then I discovered vintage canvases. The poinsettias were already stitched in wool. I filled in the black background in silk. A local shop finished it. Christmas here I come!

Enid Collins began making these box bags in the sixties and Neiman Marcus sold them. They were a huge sensation. This “cock o’ walk” is a great size and actually holds quite a bit. The drawback is the wooden box can be easily damaged and jewels pop off. Nevertheless, it catches the eye.

Many of you might wonder if my heroine, Hattie Cooks, from my romantic comedy mystery, Temporarily Employed, carries handbags. She does!

Tell me about your favorite accessory and if you leave your email address, we can have a giveaway of a handbag!

Excerpt:
“Yuck.”
Pretty much covered the whole freakin’ day.
A blinding red-white, red-white strobe, reflected in my brand new Wrangler’s rearview mirror, seized my attention. The police. I tossed my hands skyward, ready to surrender. I shouldn’t have been too surprised. Like I’d commented this a.m. to my roommate, Jenny, “Today, anything’s possible.”
My Bad Day checklist included:
- Crappy job interview, one which might have provided desperately needed income.
- Wore gut-busting panty hose on a hot day which had now worked past my waist and strangled my diaphragm.
- A barely blowing air conditioner indicated something had malfunctioned in my new, fun car.
I stole another glance in the mirror, and with great reluctance, flipped the right turn indicator. My vehicle coasted to a stop on the shoulder of Boston Avenue in my hometown of Sommerville, a nice suburb located between two large cities. Four lanes of cars and trucks zipped by as I sat there where every single one of my family, friends, friends’ friends, and their friends—including Rat Fink Suzanne—would see a police vehicle positioned right behind mine. Gleefully, drivers would chant the “Ha-ha, got you, not me” ditty.
How embarrassing.
After killing the engine, I flopped back in the seat. Shooting the morons the finger was an idea. Nah. I’m too exhausted to care.
A litany of: “No, not hiring.” “Just filled the position.” “You’re over qualified.” “You’re under qualified…” tornadoed through my head. Coupled with the intense job search through various outlets like the internet and completing numerous online employment applications, no wonder my body had been depleted of all life force.
Not even a breeze blew to take the edge off the unbearable summertime heat. Tangled wild trees and dry scrubby bushes banked the roadside. The grass had taken on a scorched look. Rolling down the driver’s window, I surveyed my surroundings. Nothing great. Nothing new.
I stole a glance in the side mirror at the policeman who strode purposefully along the shoulder. The gravel crunched under his boots. He looked huge, probably because his uniform, which appeared to be bulked with a bullet-proof vest, made him resemble a buffed-up superhero in size. Exceedingly intimidating.
Sigh. When things went wrong, they were really wrong.
