The show, curated by Los Angeles based art critic, writer and curator Peter Frank, features work by 32 artists with studios in the complex, spanning multiple disciplines.

"A few enticing examples to highlight as a sort of teaser to the forthcoming show include: Gregg Chadwick’s narrative paintings that chronicle today’s history-in-the-making events;" - Liam Otero in Whitehot Magazine

Genie Davis writes in Diversions LA - "Gregg Chadwick’s “Arrivals and Departures” is a softly impressionistic blur of motion with an army helicopter hovering over the White House, an image that speaks to our time while also being quite lovely and mysterious in a wash of golden light. Is someone fleeing the scene? Is someone being protected?"

In an excerpt from the essay for the show and catalog, Peter Frank writes, “The artists currently gathered in the Santa Monica Airport Art Studios – like all the artists who have occupied the rooms in the complex – plough their own fields, work their own magic, exemplify states of mind and matter as diverse as there are modes of art available to them… The Western world brims with such intimate multiple workshops; artists carve themselves workplaces wherever they need to, and usually do it as a cooperative production. Less usually, the studio cluster is made official and permanent, in contrast to the inherently experimental nature of such clusters but welcome anyway in the relative stability provided.”

About Perceive Me:
“100+ artists have made portraits of my fat, middle-aged body over the past decade. Each one sees something completely different. Each interpretation is valid. This is what body liberation actually looks like - not theory, actual practice.
The exhibition fills the room with paintings, photographs, drawings, sculptures showing how one body can be perceived in infinite ways.” - Kristine Schomaker

Liberty Worth
12”x9.5” color pencil, pastel, and wash on toned paper 2024
At the Startup Art Fair, Gregg Chadwick will be drawing fairgoers as part of Community Nude Portrait Sessions which runs all weekend. Anyone can sign up onsite to pose nude for professional artists. 20-minute sessions. Private space. No judgment. Just the experience of being truly seen.
Artist Liberty Worth posed for Gregg Chadwick at our last sessions and wrote: "I felt seen in a way that I have never felt seen before... For the first time in a long time, I felt beautiful."
This work changes people. Models buy the "unflattering" angles because artists render them with tenderness. They realize they see themselves much harsher than others do.

The rare murals in the Cohen Federal Building celebrate vital American values of dignity and community. Now they could meet the same fate as the White House’s East Wing.

Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Minneapolis (Official Lyric Video)
From @springsteen :I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.Stay free, Bruce Springsteen
Lyrics:Through the winter’s ice and coldDown Nicollet AvenueA city aflame fought fire and ice‘Neath an occupier’s bootsKing Trump’s private army from the DHSGuns belted to their coatsCame to Minneapolis to enforce the lawOr so their story goesAgainst smoke and rubber bulletsBy the dawn’s early lightCitizens stood for justiceTheir voices ringing through the nightAnd there were bloody footprintsWhere mercy should have stoodAnd two dead left to die on snow-filled streetsAlex Pretti and Renee GoodOh our Minneapolis, I hear your voiceSinging through the bloody mistWe’ll take our stand for this landAnd the stranger in our midstHere in our home they killed and roamedIn the winter of ’26We’ll remember the names of those who diedOn the streets of MinneapolisTrump’s federal thugs beat up onHis face and his chestThen we heard the gunshotsAnd Alex Pretti lay in the snow, deadTheir claim was self defense, sirJust don’t believe your eyesIt’s our blood and bonesAnd these whistles and phonesAgainst Miller and Noem’s dirty liesOh our Minneapolis, I hear your voiceCrying through the bloody mistWe’ll remember the names of those who diedOn the streets of MinneapolisNow they say they’re here to uphold the lawBut they trample on our rightsIf your skin is black or brown my friendYou can be questioned or deported on sightIn chants of ICE out nowOur city’s heart and soul persistsThrough broken glass and bloody tearsOn the streets of MinneapolisOh our Minneapolis, I hear your voiceSinging through the bloody mistHere in our home they killed and roamedIn the winter of ’26We’ll take our stand for this landAnd the stranger in our midstWe’ll remember the names of those who diedOn the streets of MinneapolisWe’ll remember the names of those who diedOn the streets of Minneapolis

Exhibition Tour— Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck
Join Dita Amory, Robert Lehman Curator in Charge, Lehman Collection, and Max Hollein, Marina Kellen French Director and CEO, to virtually explore Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck.
Beloved in Nordic countries for her highly original style, Finnish painter Helene Schjerfbeck (1862–1946) is relatively unknown to the rest of the world. Overcoming immense personal struggles and working in a remote location for decades, she produced a powerful body of work through sheer force of will. This exhibition affirms her rightful place in the story of modern art.
Following Schjerfbeck’s journey from art school in Paris to her final days in Sweden, the exhibition illustrates her shift from traditional and realistic subjects to a simplified, spare style. In the early 1900s, using her mother and neighbors as models, she painted abstractly, paring down her subjects in form and color and developing a bold, new language. Seeing Silence: The Paintings of Helene Schjerfbeck is the first exhibition to showcase the work of the artist in a major United States museum. Featuring nearly 60 works—including generous loans from the Finnish National Gallery / Ateneum Art Museum, other Finnish museums, and private collections in Finland and Sweden—Seeing Silence illuminates Schjerfbeck as a valuable voice of modernism.
