On the eve of the #ironmanatlanticcity703 I wanted to give a shout out for failure. I discovered about three weeks ago that I had miscalculated and my “just finish” approach is doomed because the cut offs are so tight—meaning there is a 90% chance that I will get physically pulled off the course tomorrow before finishing and after 6 months of painful training. That even if I CAN finish, I won’t be allowed to because I’m too slow. I didn’t know this was a thing. (The NYC Marathon for example is way more generous with time). But it’s a thing. Briefly, I seriously considered backing out—after all, the whole point was for me to finish. But then, I decided screw that. If I’m gonna go down, I’m gonna go down swinging. So here’s to all of you—fighting the good fight.
