We Are All Connected

We Are All Connected
I feel we are all connected and when one of us is hurting, we are all hurting. So, I try to live my life in a way that helps us connect all over the world and help make everyone’s lives better.
Since, I have been a certified, licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Texas for many years; I am interested in other wildlife rehabilitation facilities around the world.
I contacted Cathrine Nyquist, who is the founder of Panthera Africa, a 2-year old “exotic cat” rescue in South Africa, because I was going to South Africa this month to research plants for my new book on health, healing and sustainable, organic growing methods.
Even though she had left for Norway by the time I arrived at the Big Cat Sanctuary, her volunteer Nina was so kind to show me around their facility, and tell me about their rescued cats. Most of the people who work at Panthera are volunteers.
What I’ve learned from meeting with rehabilitators in Africa, is that there is an appalling problem with “breeders” who are deceptive about what they do, and also about what they do with the animals. I think it can be compared to the “puppy mills” we have in the US, (even though puppy mills mainly sell their puppies to people who want a certain breed, or to manufacturers who want to test their toxic products on animals).
Because there is such a market for these “exotic cats”, they are being bred for their babies, and these rare, beautiful animals are often kept in unbelievably cruel conditions. Most of them die from malnutrition, mistreatment, or they are sent to “shooting” camps, where people pay money to shoot these drugged-up, ill, fenced in, mistreated animals.
I bet we all know people who participate in this kind of atrocity. There is a “Safari Club” in just about every major city in the US. I’m certainly not saying everyone in a Safari Club does this kind of thing, but I am aware, that there are those who do participate in this kind of “sport.” (I would argue with the use of the word “sport” hunters frequently use when referring to hunting.)
Panthera was able to rescue some of these fortunate animals, many of which had eyesight problems (or were blind), or had horrible health problems stemming from the mistreatment, disgusting food and water they were given, and many other things.
Although, there are exceptions to how Panthera Africa receives their animals. Please make a note of this fact. Some of the animals do come from people who do have good intentions, loving hearts and simply can’t maintain their care any longer for various reasons.
Two of their lionesses (the youngest two, Lei-ah and Elsa) at Panthera Africa were raised at a game lodge. The owners of this game lodge really did have their hearts in the right place. They cared for the animals the best way they knew how, but they just didn’t have the knowledge that they needed to keep them healthy. The owners of the game lodge loved these girls very much, but they realized they didn’t have the necessary space needed to give these girls a safe home forever; so Panthera Africa stepped in and has taken the girls into their care. It really makes my heart so happy to know there are such wonderful people in this world.
The leopards, cheetahs, lions, tigers, etc. at this facility are in much better shape now than when they arrived. (The tigers are not from Africa, but they are imported and bred illegally for their body parts to sell for Chinese medicine. This rescue has some rescued tigers as well.)
Please share this story, so we can help stop the abuse of these animals.
It costs quite a bit of money to rescue these marvelous creatures, help them to heal and provide safe, life long homes. I hope in this way, we can begin to be a part of the solution.
One thing that strikes me as important, is that this place was started because the founder was “volunteering at a large cat breeding facility”. She thought she was doing a good and positive thing for the animals. However, when they shipped off her little lion cub without telling her, to be used (she found out later by investigation) at a fenced-in shooting facility for people who just wanted to kill them for trophies, she was overwhelmed with sadness.
After realizing the little lion cub that she had just worked with and grew to love was sent to this place, she became determined to help save these lovely animals. She created Panthera Africa, a fabulous facility to save them, provide medical attention, and homes. But a big part of Panthera Africa is to help educate people about these magnificent cats, what is going on in the world in regards to these animals and how they can help.
Please share this story.

Tests Reveal That High Levels Of Weed Killer Is In Food, Including Baby Food.
Tests Reveal That High Levels Of Weed Killer Is In Our Food Supply, Including Baby Food!
Why Aren’t We Hearing Or Reading About This In The News?
An FDA-registered Food Safety Testing Laboratory recently found extremely high levels of the pesticide glyphosate (the active ingredient in round-up weed killer made by Monsanto) in some popular foods, including Cheerios, Oreos, Doritos, and Ritz Crackers! (1) Scientific evidence demonstrates that levels as low as 0.1 part per billion (ppb) can cause extreme harm to one’s health. Cheerios measured as much as 1.125.3 ppb! (2)
Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto’s Roundup, is the most heavily used chemical weed-killer in history. “U.S. regulators allow a very high level of daily glyphosate residue in America’s food. The acceptable daily intake (ADI) limit is set at 1.75 milligrams per kilogram of bodyweight per day (written 1.75 mg/kg bw/day) in the U.S., versus a more cautious 0.3 mg/kg bw/day in the European Union.
Tolerances have been set through the submission of corporate-sponsored studies and industry influence on the regulatory process. New research shows that Roundup causes liver and kidney damage in rats, as reflected in changes in the functions of 4,000 genes at only 0.05 parts per billion (ppb) glyphosate equivalent, indicating damage.” (3)
Recent studies on the Toxicity of Glyphosate (Roundup) found this herbicide carcinogenic.[4]
They found glyphosate:
Causes cell cycle dysregulation, which is a hallmark of tumor cells and human cancers. It’s deemed a carcinogen by the World Health Organization’s team of international cancer experts. Strong evidence from animal studies has linked the chemical to various forms of cancer, and “limited evidence” from human studies has linked it to non-Hodgkins lymphoma in particular. (5)
Inhibits DNA synthesis in certain parts of the cell cycle—the cells’ reproductive process, which underlies the growth and development of all living organisms. It disrupts hormones and leads to reproductive problems, early onset puberty, obesity, diabetes, and some cancers. (6)
Impedes the hatchings of sea urchins. (Sea urchins were used because they constitute an appropriate model for the identification of undesirable cellular and molecular targets of pollutants.) The delay was found to be dose dependent on the concentration of Roundup. The surfactant polyoxyethylene amine (POEA), another major component of Roundup, was also found to be highly toxic to the embryos when tested alone, and could therefore be a contributing factor. [7)
I would like to let our voices be heard, so that the news will report these findings, and so that the FDA and the USDA will put a ban on this chemical that is leaching into our water and our environment, and is poisoning our food supply.
If we do nothing, they assume we do not care.
The only way they will listen is if we demand they listen. Please share this story with your friends, family, etc. The only way this injustice will be corrected is if enough of us stand up and demand that something be done to stop the poisoning of our food supply.
Here is a detailed list from Food Democracy Now, showing the test results. (8)

Why is this weed killer in non-GMO and organic food?
It’s because the widespread use of this chemical has seeped into the water supply, the soils, and the air. Glyphosate is not just used on GMO crops, even though most GMO crops were developed to withstand huge amounts of this chemical herbicide to be dumped on them in the field. There are quite a few farmers, who are not organic farmers, who use it to help dry their oat and wheat crops. In all of these types of crops, the round-up is then in the food, and is not able to be washed off.
They also use these toxic herbicides, containing glyphosate, extensively in public areas like parks. They are neurotoxins and can cause nerve damage. They can go right through the skin and directly into the blood stream. Think of your baby crawling on the grass or your pet’s nose sniffing it. Look at the rise in cancer in pets and children in the US. I find this incredibly alarming.
The American Cancer Society states on their website that Cancer is the second leading cause of death in children aged 1 to 14 in 2016.
Likewise, the Veterinary Cancer Society states that cancer is the leading cause of death in 47% of dogs.
Everyone seems to act as if this is something that is normal, but I firmly believe it to be a direct result of the toxins (like carcinogens such as glyphosate) in our environment, food and water.
Pollinators travel all over the place gathering food from flowers. Even though “there is no legal tolerance level for glyphosate in honey in the United States,” (10) Glyphosate is used so extensively, that the FDA found it in every single honey they tested. (11)
“Even though the FDA annually examines foods for residues of many pesticides, it has skipped testing for glyphosate residues for decades. It was only in February of this year that the FDA said it would start some glyphosate residues analysis…The government and Monsanto have maintained that any glyphosate residues in food would be minimal enough to be safe. But critics say without robust testing, glyphosate levels in food are not known. And they say that even trace amounts may be harmful because they are likely consumed so regularly in many foods.” (12)
Bees are so sensitive that these toxins are one of the reasons the bee population has declined by over 90% in the last few years, and those are only the hive bees that can be counted. We can’t effectively count the wild bees or other pollinators, who live singularly.
Can we even guess how many people have glyphosate-filled foods in their pantry? This can be one of the reasons half the men in the US have cancer. One third of women have cancer. The leading cause of death in the US of children is cancer.
So, my question is: why isn’t our government protecting our food supply from these cancer-causing chemical and herbicides?
Why isn’t this type of information being reported?
This is in my opinion the slow poisoning of Americans, and it’s being allowed by our own government.
I just wonder how much money is changing hands from Monsanto and other companies that manufacture these glyphosate herbicides, to these agencies or the people who are in charge of regulating the toxins in our environment and our food supply. I can’t imagine any other reason for them to allow this kind of continued use to happen, especially after being shown time and time again that they are harmful.
I feel we need to ban lobbyists, and also demand that our government regulators start protecting us from these harmful poisons that are saturating our food, our environment and our water supply.
According to EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) archives in the United States, it has been documented that Monsanto knew of the potential of glyphosate to cause cancer in mammals as long ago as 1981. (13)
Why would the EPA create a cover-up, or continue to allow Monsanto and other companies to use these documented cancer-causing herbicides on crops?
I personally am so disgusted with the regulations for our food in this country.
I think it’s disgraceful what our country’s regulatory agencies allow to happen to our food, (including baby food!), our environment and our water. (14)
I don’t think it will stop until we demand it.
We need to share this story and other ones like the Food Democracy Now’s documented studies, until they can’t deny it any longer, and must do something about it.
Just remember that you, your family and your friends’ health depends on what you ingest. Avoid the herbicide-laden foods by choosing certified organic foods. These toxic chemicals, including glyphosate, are prohibited on organic crops.
In closing, I’m asking for a call to action.
Please share this story on twitter, facebook, etc.
We need to demand that our food be safe.
The government should take action on this, because it’s the ethical thing to do.

Healthy Foods For The New Year

Healthy Foods For The New Year
It is a new year and time to get healthy after our holiday food indulgences. So let’s get started on the path to cleansing and detoxifying our bodies!
The food we eat and the physical environment we live in causes us to accumulate toxins, which limits our physical stamina and impairs our immune system. If we are clogged up and holding toxins in our bodies, we can’t absorb nutrients properly and digestion is hindered.
This might lead to constipation, bloating, gas, headaches, bad breath, allergy symptoms, PMS, depression, frequent infections, dull skin, thinning hair, and weight gain. These are all good reasons to detoxify and cleanse ourselves!
There are a few different ways to do this, and one of the best ways is to add more fiber to our diets. The average American diet contains about 10 grams of fiber a day, but in reality, we need to consume about 25 to 35 grams a day. Why is this? Because fiber absorbs toxins and helps move them through and out of our bodies, cleaning us out.
Fifty percent of our immune system is located in and around our digestive system, especially the large intestines. Cleansing these is the first step to obtaining and maintaining good health. In addition, fiber helps our bodies sustain a healthy intestinal flora.
Once your body is cleansed, it can utilize nutrients much more efficiently, thus reducing your cravings for sweets and fatty foods. Furthermore, fiber helps lower blood sugar, which helps manage diabetes, and is linked to the prevention of colon and breast cancer.
Two of the most convenient and consistent ways to add more fiber to your daily routine are: first of all, eating more whole, raw organic vegetables and fruits in their natural form, and secondly, by consuming high-quality psyllium husks.
An easy way to add psyllium husks to your daily diet is to add them to your smoothie in the morning. The fiber swells quickly when wet, so you need to drink it quickly or add more liquid after it swells.
Here is a list of the top fiber foods you can add to your diet:
Apple 1 medium 2.2 grams fiber
Avocado 1 medium 11.84 grams fiber
Black beans 1 cup 14.92 grams fiber
Bran flakes 3/4 cup 5.1 grams fiber
Broccoli 1 cup cooked 10.97 grams fiber
Kale 1 cup cooked 7.20 grams fiber
Kidney beans 1 cup cooked 13.33 grams fiber
Lentils 1 cup 5.6 grams fiber
Oat Meal 1 cup 4 grams fiber
Orange 1 medium 3.40 grams fiber
Pear 1 medium 5.1 grams fiber
Raspberries 1 cup 8.34 grams fiber
Rice 1 cup uncooked 7.98 grams fiber
Spinach 1 cup cooked 4.32 grams fiber
Sweet potato 1 cup cooked 6.94 grams fiber
Whole-wheat spaghetti 1 cup 6.3 grams fiber
This year, add some fiber and nutrients to your diet.
Make this a lifestyle choice for a healthier new you!
