Guest Author: Sid Love – Let It Go; Blog Tour And Giveaway

My friend Sid is stopping by to talk about his new release, Let It Go. (One hopes parents looking for something related to the very very popular kids song of the same name from the movie Frozen realize this is not the same :P ) Read on to learn more about what makes him tick and be sure to enter the contest at the end of the interview.

Guest Author: Sid Love
Welcome back Sid, it’s been a while since you’ve last been here. So much so that I know a few things have changed for you so start by telling everyone a bit about yourself.

CM BadgeHi Andrew *hugs* It’s true I haven’t been here as a guest author, but I am a frequent visitor to your blog as a reader. This is one of my favorite places to come and get updates on you and other authors you host. :)

Things have definitely changed for me. So let me introduce the new me to you all – I am Sid Love, a successful blogger, reader, an ex-reviewer, an author of M/M fiction and now, a virtual promotion business owner. As of today, I’ve got two published books – one under the DSP banner and the other self-published. Creative Minds – Book & Author Promotions, is the new venture I have begun to help fellow authors promote their books. Currently, through CM, I work as a personal assistant for the authors Sue Brown & Lou Sylvre.

I know you’ve been writing for a while, how long would you say you’ve been writing seriously?

I wrote my first story back in 2007, but I have to admit – it sucked. :P It wasn’t until 2009 that I started to write more meaningful stories and the serious writing that I did with all the research and all was in the month of November that year. Yes, a NaNoWriMo story. A lot of people liked that story and suggested that I get it published – which I haven’t done yet – but that made me think that maybe I did have some potential to satisfy the readers through my writing.

What was your first story?

Okay, without going into details, it was a Halloween story that I wrote in 2007 (the one that sucked). It was M/M.

What was your first published story?

HHoldingontoHopeFSolding on to Hope – the book that came out from Dreamspinner Press on the Valentine’s Day. Here’s the blurb and the link for it if anyone is interested –

Bradley Parker has waited twenty years for Mr. Right, and on Valentine’s Day, he finally finds him. It’s love at first sight, and Brad even loses his virginity to the man of his dreams. But when he wakes up the next morning unable to remember anything—even what the man looked like—his best friend, Leslie, is convinced he imagined the whole thing. Brad knows he didn’t make up the best night of his life, but he has no idea of the danger he’s putting himself in as he struggles to recall the details of his perfect man. His search may lead him to parts of New York City he never dreamed existed and a war being waged in the shadows.

Your latest book is Let It Go. You do realize that is the title to a song from the movie Frozen that all the eight and under girls sing non-stop right?

Hey! Are you calling me a girl?? :P

Yes, I know that and if you check out the dedication page of my book, it says –

To Idina, simply because you are an inspiration…

I’ll assume Idina is a young girl who sings it non-stop like my daughter does.
Talk a bit about your book?

let-it-go-coverLet It Go is the story of Damon O’Neil – a guy from California, USA and an Indian man named Virat Panchal, who happen to meet in Goa by fate.

Goa isn’t supposed to be one of the stops Damon O’Neil was taking while in India. It becomes a mere substitution to his big plans of visiting his sister in Paris for holidays. Because his boss, Mr. Boyles, ruins it all for him. He arranges an urgent visit for Damon to tend to all the system upgrades they needed for the company’s offshore units and Damon is too good to say no.

When a situation arises in a restaurant, a handsome Indian guy named Virat comes to his rescue. Damon is instantly smitten with his looks and especially, with his cute smile. Soon, he realizes that Virat is very much out of his league when the guy introduces him to his new wife.

However, there might just be a chance that Virat isn’t all what he pretends to be …

Your book is set in India. That’s not a common setting for a book. Why use Goa for the location?

calangute-beach-goaThat’s easy. Goa is one of the most beautiful places in India. The story takes place in December during the holidays and everyone – in India and around the world – make plans to visit Goa. The hotels there are booked solid at this time of the year and it’s almost impossible to get any last minute bookings done.

I have been there multiple times and I simply love spending time on the beaches – there are several. Calangute beach is the most popular one and the hotel Damon and Virat are staying at is mentioned to be near it. Let me tell you, it’s not just the beaches but Goa has got some beautiful tourist spots too. The Portugese heritage that the place has possessed for centuries is what makes the place so distinct.

India isn’t know for its tolerance of the LGBTQ community, can you talk about that for a bit?

It’s very hard being part of an LGBTQ community in India and I’m not just saying that. People here have got a very conservative mindset. If you are even a bit different, you’ll become the laughing stock of the society. I see a guy on a street wearing heavy eye-liners and there’ll be people around pointing fingers, whispering and laughing looking at him. It makes me sad that even after years this is how you are treated in India.

Can you believe there’s a law in India that makes homosexuality a crime?

But we’ve got support groups, not that we are totally helpless. Even among the conservative Indian minds, we have people who understand us and are ready to voice out their opinions. Celebrities have started to come forth and stand by the people protesting against that one law that criminalizes love between two men. But I still say we have got a long way to go!

Is this going to be part of a Series?

No, I believe Damon and Virat have got a good, satisfactory ending to their story.

What part of the book was the most fun to write and why?

It has to be the beginning of the story, the part where my two MCs meet. India is known for its spicy foodstuff and when Damon orders one, he isn’t able to eat it. That’s when Virat comes over to help him. The interaction between them is quite interesting.

What part made you struggle them most?

Virat’s dilemma of being attracted to a man while he is still married to a woman. Alongwith him and Damon, I struggled through the pain they both were in being apart.

Tell us something interesting that is not in the blurb?

There’s a very intense love scene in the book that I am quite proud of. That scene is packed with a lot of emotions and I have taken my time writing it.

What’s your favorite part of the writing process?

Picking my characters and studying them. It is really amazing how well you can get to know a character as if he is a real person. To be honest, Damon became my best friend by the time I ended the story. So, it was really hard letting him go.

What’s your least favorite?

Rewriting something I do not like! I rewrote the love scene in Let It Go thrice in order to perfect it.

Since there is always another story to tell, what are you working on now?

My current WIP is a romance fiction based on the idea of second chances. Timothy Collins, a filthy rich Harvard student and Blake Perkins, an erotic dancer are my main characters. I had planned to write it out for NaNoWriMo last year (2014) but unfortunately, it didn’t happen. So, it’s still a WIP.

What have you read lately that most people haven’t read but should?

Being Sue’s PA, I get to pre-read a lot of her books! So, I recently had a chance of reading The Next Call from her and I really liked it. It comes out next month from Dreamspinner Press and everyone definitely should to read that book, I believe. It will be up for pre-order soon.

If you could meet any writer, alive or dead, who would it be and why?

Oh there’s this author in the M/M genre, I’d really really like to meet. He’s such a sweetheart and a very good friend :D Andrew Q. Gordon? You know him by any chance? I am a big fan plus I wanna meet him so that I can demand those sequels out of him which I’ve been dying to read. :D

I’d like to meet Sue Brown, Leighton Rose and Susan Mac Nicol in person too because they’re simply awesome and good friends to me. Also, I would have loved to meet Agatha Christie and Jane Austen because they have inspired me to write!

Don’t know that Gordon guy, but Susan Mac Nicol I know a fair bit and she’s also high on my list of people to meet.
What’s a fun – non-writing – day for you?

Do you really get those fun non-writing days?? Seriously? My EDJ usually keeps me from having any kinda fun :P Finding time to write itself becomes a struggle.

Besides reading and writing, what else do you enjoy?

Listening to music, catching up on my favorite TV shows. I hardly get time for that anymore.

Last question is all yours – feel free to talk about anything you want your readers to know about you, your book, anything at all.

I just want to thank everyone for their love and support. Thank you Danielle, Sue, Lisa, Chris and Alex for making Let It Go possible. I had given up on it but you motivated me to go ahead, finish it and publish it. J And thank you Andrew for having me here today. It’s always nice to talk to you!

BLURB:

let-it-go-cover“Everyone tells me to stay away from him. But if only I knew how to resist him…”

Goa isn’t supposed to be on Damon O’Neil’s list of places to stay while working in India. It’s merely a substitute for his planned trip to visit his sister in Paris for Christmas and the New Year. His boss had other ideas. He’s sent Damon to carry out urgent upgrades to the company’s offshore units and Damon can’t say no.

When Damon encounters an extra-spicy curry, a handsome Indian guy named Virat comes to his rescue. Damon is instantly smitten with his looks, and especially with his cute smile. But Damon soon realizes he is very much out of his league when Virat introduces his new wife.

However, there might just be a chance Virat isn’t all he pretends to be …

About the Author:

Sid Love grew up in one of busiest cities in the world, Mumbai, listening to the excerpts of Indian epics from his father every night. While it served as an inspiration back in time, he has always had an ambitious mind. In 2007, when he had just turned sixteen, he decided that he would make his lifelong dream come true—to become a well-known, respected author some day.

Ask him and he would refuse to accept that he is obsessed with books. Or movies. Or TV shows. Addicted may even be the right word. He is a die-hard fan of Jane Austen’s romance novels and loves to reread them time and again.

Second Shot – The Senior Year: Chapter 41

It’s been a hot minute (hour??) since my last Free Fiction Friday post. Since one of my 2015 goals is to post more consistently and to keep up with my FFF posts, it seemed right that I start the year off right.  That said, many of you probably have no recollection of what’s going on—so before I post the next chapter here are the links of the last five chapters (If you like having the last five chapters at the top of the newest one, leave a comment and I’ll make it a regular feature):

Blake noticed his roommate had the deer in a headlight look on his face. It took a moment, but Brett finally blinked.

“Hi.” Brett hesitated for a second then held out his hand. “Nice to meet you.”

Expecting Ethan to come back with something snarky, Blake crossed in front of his boyfriend. “We’ll be gone in a few. I just need my heating pad and some extra clothes.”

Brett nodded and his lips twisted in the way they did when Brett didn’t know what to say. When no one said anything, Blake ducked back into the closet to get what he’d come for. He all but tossed everything out of his way so he could quickly get the pad and get ‘back’ to the conversation before it turned ugly.

“Um…do you have a minute?” Brett asked, keeping his attention away from Ethan. “I wanted to talk to you.”

The words sent a chill down Blake’s back. He’d expected to have this conversation soon, but not this soon. And certainly not with Ethan present. If he said no, Ethan would be all over him for not standing up for himself, but if he said yes, he worried what Ethan would do.

He glanced over at Ethan and saw the muscles in his face twitch. “Um…yeah, sure.”

Sneaking a quick glimpse at Ethan, Brett quickly turned his gaze toward the floor. “It’s about…you know… what we talked about yesterday.”

“You can’t even—” Ethan stopped when Blake put his hand on his boyfriend’s arm.

“Ethan, please don’t.” He stared at Ethan to try to convey how much he wanted to handle this himself.

“Fine.” Ice dripped from the word. “Do you want me to wait outside?”

“No, but getting angry won’t help.”

The fiery spark winked out and Ethan’s body unclenched. “Okay.”

Blake didn’t have the time to decipher what just happened, but he smiled and rubbed Ethan’s back gently. “Thanks, Eth.”

He turned his attention back to Brett and raised an eyebrow. “What’s up?”

“Well, I’ve been thinking about what you said. You know, about not having changed, and while that’s true, things are different.”

“Not between us.” Blake crossed his arms across his chest.

“That’s true, too. And that’s what I meant to say. I wasn’t expecting you to tell me you…you’re…you’re….”

“You can say gay. It’s not contagious, you know.” Ethan sat in Blake’s chair and refused to look at either of them.

“Look, Brett.” Blake wanted to get away from his room before Ethan escalated things further. “Just say it. I’m already offended by what happened, I doubt you can make it worse.”

“That’s just it, I don’t like that you feel that way. I don’t want that.” He played with the strap to his backpack. “I’m sorry for that.”

“Which part? That I’m offended or by what you did?” Although he’d tried to keep Ethan calm, hearing his roommates lame apology wore away at his control.

“I’m sorry I offended you.” He finally met Blake’s gaze. “I’m not sure what happened. I’m not homophobic and I’m not mad at you. I know I acted weird, but to be honest, I’m not entirely sure why.”

A snort from his left made Blake scowl, but when he looked over, Ethan held up both hands. “Sorry.”

“I get that sounds stupid, but it’s true.” Brett shifted his bag off his back and sat on the end of his bed. “Everything you said made sense, and I was still arguing with you. I guess I’m not as good as I thought I’d be if someone close to me came out.”

Hearing that Brett thought of them as having been close once, stung. “Where does that leave us?”

“I don’t know.” Brett shrugged. “But I know I don’t want you to move out. I…we’re good friends, or at least we were til I fucked it up. I get this is on me to fix, and I can’t say I won’t act still weird now and then, but I want a chance to get back to where we were.”

His roommate’s decision shocked Blake. Ethan looked equally surprised. He turned his attention back to Brett. “Um…That’s cool. I can work with that if you can.”

“Yeah?” Brett lifted his gaze with a hopeful expression on his face.

“Totally.” The urge to laugh almost overwhelmed Blake. “But I kinda have plans for the weekend.”

“I’m sure you do.” Brett snorted. “Go, we can talk more on Monday.”

Ethan shot Brett a look that only Blake saw. Unsure what to do next, he grabbed his things and put them in a bag. “I’m…um…we’re staying at Jase’s.”

“Yeah I figured.” For the first time since he and Blake had the ‘talk’, Brett looked mostly relaxed. The way Blake remembered him from their freshman year. “If you need something, just come back. I’ll be in and out.”

He nodded, motioned to Ethan and started walking. Ethan stopped before they got to the door.

“Thanks for that.” He held out his hand. “I know it wasn’t for me, but I’m glad you did it. Blake was kinda stressin about he and you being on bad terms.”

“You’re welcome.” His words came out unsure, but he shook Ethan’s hand without hesitation.

“Yeah, and now that he’s not stressin, we might have better weekend.”

Blake could feel his cheeks turning red as Brett looked at him. He grabbed Ethan’s arm and yanked him toward the door. “We’re going now.”

He didn’t wait for a reply from his roommate before he hustled Ethan away. “Why did you say that?”

“What? It was perfectly innocent.” He wiggled his eyes and smiled.

“Right.” Shaking his head, Blake checked the hallway and seeing no one, he leaned in for a quick kiss. “If I didn’t think you’d enjoy it, I’d threaten to make you pay.”

“Oh yeah, baby.” He whispered. “I like the sound of that. Make me pay.”

Blake’s laugh echoed down the empty hall. “You’re too much.” Of course the idea of what making Ethan pay entailed threatened to embarrass him if gave it too much thought.

“I do what I can.”

Their mood leaving was nothing like how they entered the dorm. An enormous weigh felt gone. It wasn’t perfect and he knew it was bound to have some rough patches, but it was the start he’d hoped for but didn’t expect.

2015: A Look Ahead

As far as year went, 2014 was a pretty good one in the Gordon household. I didn’t win the lottery, write a best seller, buy a stock that went through the roof, discover the cure for war, sickness, poverty or any of the other things that plaque our lives, but still. I’m healthy,  employed at a job I don’t hate (I can’t go so far as to say I love my work, because, let’s be serious, if I won the lottery, I’d quit before the hour was out), ‘lil q is growing up happy, I’m married to the man I love, I have a great family and circle of friends and I’m content.1412060733_new_year_2015_hd_wallpaper

2015 however is upon us, so I’m going to take part in that time honored effort in futility and post some goals (some of you might call them resolutions though I shy away from that word) for the coming year. Some will be easy to complete, some will be long term projects, and others will fall under the, ‘boy, it would be nice to actually do this’ category. So with that here we go:

Write More: This is going to be a long term project, but I need to be more consistent and diligent about writing. If I can get into a groove, I think I can do more in ’15 than in ’14. As part of this I want to get back to doing a consistent weekly post on the Free Fiction Friday group. More to come on this in the days and weeks to come.

Lose 20 pounds: Okay, so I know more than a few of you are going to roll your eyes and say I don’t need to lose weight, but three things, 1) I’m well above what I weighted when I met Mike 20 years ago, 2) I’ve other goals to come where this will be helpful and 3) I want to be able to keep up with ‘lil q as she grows up. Being in shape will go a long way to keeping that goal.

Blog More Consistently: This is an area that was rather successful the last two years. I’ve gone from almost no visitors to averaging over 750 unique visitors a month. What I’ve not done so well this year is be as consistent as I could. I’m going to do more and be more organized. Starting Next week I’m going to start with weekly author interviews. Anyone interested in being part of it, shoot me an email.

Run a Race: I’m not going to shoot for a marathon, but I’d like to run at least one race this year. My hope is that as ‘lil q grows up, we can do these together. Wish me luck.

Celebrate 20 Years With Mike: Okay, so this is cheating as it’s not really a goal, but I’d like to find something special for us to do this year to celebrate twenty years together.

Read More: Since I started writing, I’ve not read near as much. Once ‘lil q arrived I’ve read even less. I miss it. Time to go back and do more.

Revamp My Website: As things move forward, I think I need a more professional look. DSP Publications is re-releasing The Last Grand Master in Feb ’15. In April they are going to publish Book II, The Eye and the Arm. DSP Publications is going to promote there books to a wider audience, that is, not just MM Romance. I think I need to update my look.

Take A More Professional Approach To Writing And Marketing: This goes hand in glove with the last one. In addition to a more professional website, I think I need to get some help marketing my books and my brand. One of the advantages of working and writing (and let’s be honest, there are NOT many advantages to trying to do both) is that I still have the means to invest in my future. Right now I don’t need to money from writing to support myself – in truth I’m not sure I’ll ever get to the point where writing is my full time day job. I also hope to retire in a few years and once that happens I won’t have the same amount of disposable income to spend on my writing. The time to do this is now, and with DSP Publications marketing my books in a new direction, now is the time.

See More Baseball Games: Yep, I know, some of think baseball is boring. Got it. I disagree, can’t we leave it at that? No? Hmm. Well some of my best memories as a kid were of going to baseball games with my dad and my grandfather. ‘lil q likes going to the Bowie Baysox games (the Orioles Minor League team near the house). Admittedly that is largely due to the carousel, cotton candy, funnel cakes and music, but in time she’ll remember the game as well. More than that, it is something Mike and both enjoy so this is a great family event.

I think those are enough. I’ve got a lot on my plate trying to keep up with ‘lil q, work, write and spend time with the family. These ought to keep me busy for the year and beyond.

2014: It Was A Good Year

Trying to recap a year in one post is like trying to eat soup with a fork, you get the major stuff, but you end up leaving way more behind. Keeping that firmly in mind here’s an attempt to recap the highlights of this year.

Writing has helped me make a lot of new friends. This year was no exception. Between the DC Area MM Romance Reader Meet Ups, the Dreamspinner Author Conference and GRL, I met quite a few people in person I’d only met on line. I’d name names, but I’d forget people. I know that when I read a friend’s list of anything and they mention who they’re glad to know or who’s been a big part of their lives and I don’t see my name, I won’t lie and say I brush it off. Rather than leave off people, I’ll just leave it that I met a lot of good people who’ve made my life better for having them in it.

Elizabeth North and KC Wells
Kim Fielding
Charlie Cochet
Shira Athony

I’ve been very fortunate to have a few people believe in me as a writer and a person. Without Lily Velden at Wayward Ink Publishing, Elizabeth North at Dreamspinner (who so many people owe a lot to), and Lynn West and Anne Regan at DSP Publications I wouldn’t even be the small name in the crowd that I am. They’ve all been wonderfully supportive and they’ve helped make 2014 as great as it’s been for me.

image005

I also was able to attend GRL this year as a supporting author. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect and I can’t say I was super excited in the days leading up to the trip. Part of that came from the fact I don’t enjoy self-promotion (seriously, who does?), but the rest of it came from I didn’t know what to expect. My one big take away was all the wonderful people I met. Cliché? Yes, it is. This is one of those stock phrases we’re all expected to say to prove our humility. Got it. But in truth, there were people I met there that I’d never met face-to-face but had talked to all the time on line. Meeting people in real life always strengthens the bonds for me. In a guest post I did for Love Bytes Review Blog, I talked about how I still prefer to meet people in person and how that just makes the connection so much stronger for me.

Allison and I muggin it up for the last selfie of my GRL.
That was me.
Anne Regan just before I went home
Shae Connor danced with me and gave me luck at poker. Can't do GRL without her.
I cornered Becky Condit and got this shot.
Edmond Manning agreed to be seen with me.
I can't vouch for the photographer, but that really is me and Amy Lane.
with Anne Tenino
Fanboying SJD Peterson was a definite high moment for me.
Rhys Ford - the girl had a line but it was worth the wait.
K.C. was my good luck charm, I had quite a run when she was at my side.
The always stylish Elisa Rolle
The lovely Charlie Cochet
Jordan Hawk letting me fanboy her.
Dev Bantham and I at the Casino night.
JJ making me look good.
Allison Hickman and me getting our green on.
With Heather Kobos
Melanie Marshall
Gwen Harter
Elaine Lee was quite the card shark.

Some other people who stand out as having helped make my ’14 writing year such a good one for me:

Joyfully Jay – JJ helps arrange the DC Area Meet-ups, but more than that she was a real godsend when I was trying to get ready for GRL. With all the other people who vie for her time, she never forgot me when I needed something and never asked for anything in return. Thanks.

Joyfully Jay and me

Joyfully Jay and me

Lily Velden – yeah I mentioned her already, but she asked me to be part of Wayward Ink Publishing. Sadly, work and life forced me to step away from being a part of the something great she is creating, but that she believed in me enough to ask was a real highlight of the year. (I do not have a picture of us – ugh!)

Brandilyn Carpenter – I will never forget how much of a big sister she was to me at GRl (never mind that I’m a bazillion years older than her, the way she took charge and made sure I got where I was supposed to be and did what I was supposed to do, she made me feel like a child in comparison.) In addition to that – and really, isn’t that enough? – she invited me to be a guest author monthly on Prism Book Alliance. I don’t know that I deserve to be among all the other great authors who guest post for her, but I’m ever so grateful for the invitation. (Double Ugh – I followed her around all con and never got a picture.)

Dani Elle Maas – Dani is one of those beautiful and humble people who make you smile just being around them. I’m not sure she really appreciates how much she helps so many of us with her efforts. Dani also believed in me enough to offer me a spot as a guest contributor each month on Love Bytes Review Blog. I feel a bit out of place among the other authors who guest blog for her, but again, I’m grateful for the voice she gives me.

My one and only with Dani Elle. At least we can see her.

My one and only with Dani Elle. At least we can see her.

Larry Benjamin – I feel like a child with a crayon when I read his work, but he’s always there when I need to ask a question. One of my goals for 2015 is to meet him in person and have a face-to-face talk.

So this one is really quite obvious – at least to me, but J.P. Barnaby. Here is a person who probably does more for others than she does for herself. I swear she must have Time Turner like the one in Harry Potter to do everything she does and STILL write so many great books. I’m so fortunate to count her as my friend and hope to be able to repay her kindness to me this year in the future.

Randi (no last name as she’s not an author). I could not have survived GRL without her. From allowing me to send my boxes to her house, to keeping me on schedule and making sure I ate, she was my conference buddy. I know I said thanks before, but that’s really not enough.

My conference buddy and life line - Randi Latko. Thank you for helping e survive.

My conference buddy and life line – Randi. Thank you for helping e survive.

I’m not sure if cousins count, but my cousin Lorraine has been wonderful. She is a professional editor who never says no to me and charges me such ridiculous rates – breakfast with ‘lil q or staying in my spare bedroom when she’s here – that I feel like I’m robbing her. Beyond that she taught me more than a few things about writing that make me a better author.

As I’ve said that’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s a start.

Some other highlights for the year:

My father turned 80 this year and the entire family was there, his children, grandchildren, his siblings, their children and their children’s children. It was the first time everyone had been together since the two youngest members were born – ‘lil q and my cousin’s daughter who is 6 weeks older. That was a special day.IMG_1074We took ‘lil q to her first baseball game. Given that Mike and I both love baseball, it was a great day.

IMG_0755

I turned 50 – okay, so that’s not really a highlight other than I made it to 50, but it was a milestone of sorts I suppose. Thankfully there was no party. I’d never have survived if I had one.

IMG_2304

‘lil q told Santa what she wanted for Christmas for the first time. Of course I bought everything BUT what she asked for so I had to run out and get her some more things. Still cute.

And now for some things that didn’t go so well:

I didn’t finish Harp Strings like I meant to. Sigh. I will in ’15 for sure. (fingers crossed)

My performance posting on Fridays in the Free Fiction Friday Group has been abysmal. Time to kick myself in the rear.

I wasn’t as organized or as productive as I had hoped. This applies across the board and not just to writing. I’ll have to figure out a better way next year.

I think that more than covers it. Tomorrow I’ll post a list of things I hope to accomplish next year. (Stop laughing, I didn’t even post them yet!) But I leave you with a last picture of ‘lil q of 2014. We took this today on her way to school for the last day of the year.

Just Stay; by Aria Grace – New Release and Giveaway
Blurb:

JS_800When Spencer agreed to help take down the leader of a Portland crime family, he didn’t realize he’d end the night with the bloodied body of an unknowing accomplice in his arms. His initial interest in Dylan was purely physical but when Dylan stepped in front of Topher’s gun and saved Spencer, the lust quickly turned into something more. Something he wasn’t sure he’d ever find in the fast-paced dot com world he was from.

For mature readers.

Publisher: Surrendered Press
Cover Artist: Sexy Men Pix
Excerpt:

He looks over his shoulder at his back, straining to see the smeared blood. “This should be fun.”

I turn around and step back to him. “Oh, right. Well, um, I can, you know, help with your back…if you want.”

Dylan’s eyes drop to my crotch and slowly trail up to my face. “Sure, if you don’t mind.”

I silently follow him into the bathroom. He turns on the bath faucet and sets the temperature. Looking down at his boxers then back at me, he steps over the side of the tub and lowers himself into the rising water, careful to keep his bandages dry. “Ahh, that fucking hurts but it feels good.”

I reach for the bar of soap and unwrap the delicate paper surrounding it. Dipping it in the water with a hand towel, I lather it up. “Lean forward a little.”

Dylan looks deeply into my eyes before scooting forward and resting his cheek on the side of the tub. With gentle strokes, I wash away the smears of blood on his back and side. When there isn’t anything left on his back, I hold my breath and move the towel to the outside of his bronze bicep.

One eye peeks open and Dylan smiles faintly without stopping me. “I could just fall asleep.”

“Well, I probably can’t lift you out without hurting your shoulder so try to stay awake for another minute.” With much more force, I run the sudsy towel over the front of his torso, stopping about an inch from the waist band of his wet boxers.

Chance to be King; by Sue Brown: New Release Spotlight and Giveaway

BlogTour_ChanceToBeKing

Chance to be King; By Sue Brown
About The Book

2nd Edition

ChanceToBeKingFSAfter working nonstop for two years, actor Eric Pawlowski desperately needs a respite from his grueling schedule and the crippling migraines that come with it. Thinking that a few weeks in a secluded cottage is just the thing, his vacation gets off to a rough start when he almost mows down the only other guy who lives on the remote road. Fortunately Thomas is quick to forgive, and soon he, Eric, and Eric’s two dogs are palling around like they’ve known each other for years.

But when Eric witnesses Thomas coldly order a lost stranger off his property, he starts to question how well he knows him. Despite a mutual attraction that has Eric cursing every time a well-meaning member of the nearby small town interrupts their attempts to get intimate, Eric wonders if acting on his desire for Thomas will get him involved in a situation he shouldn’t be in. When his rented cabin catches fire in the middle of the night and the firemen call it arson, it confirms Eric’s suspicions.

To keep Eric with him, it’s up to Thomas to come clean about who he is… and his involvement in a decade-old web of tragedy and revenge into which Eric has unwittingly walked.

Excerpt:

Eric paused for a minute to take in his surroundings. The lake was huge, surrounded by reeds and banked in places by sandy beaches. A short note in the paperwork said it was suitable to swim in, and Eric had brought his trunks hopefully. There seemed to be a narrow path following the shoreline. Eric called to the dogs and set off to follow it. He didn’t necessarily want to explore all of it today, but he did think the dogs would benefit from a long walk after being cooped up in the truck for most of the previous day.

In places the overhanging branches meant Eric needed to duck, one of the disadvantages of being well over six feet tall. The dogs, however, had no such issues, and they plowed ahead eagerly. Their enthusiasm meant he lost sight of them until he reached a clearer spot in the trees. Eric could hear them splashing up ahead and smiled to himself. Millie was a terror for getting in the water, be it puddle or pond. Toby was more of a wimp and would dance around the edges before finally getting up the courage to venture in.

Eric finally reached the shoreline, to see Millie in the water as he expected. However, the man playing with her as she swam around was a surprise. He’d obviously been swimming, because he was bare from the waist up and—oh fuck—he was a vision: lean muscles, firm abs, and dark nipples against tanned skin. Yummy. Not that Eric was looking closely. At all. Okay, maybe it didn’t take much for Eric to react to a gorgeous man dancing half-naked in cold water.

Eric squinted as he looked a bit closer. Wasn’t this his rescuer from last night? Tim… Tony… Thomas… that was it, Thomas.

“Morning,” Eric drawled as he watched them play. “Hope she’s not bothering you too much.”

As Eric spoke, Thomas looked up and stopped horsing around. Millie gave a disappointed bark as she paddled and nudged Thomas’s hand hopefully. Thomas ran his hands though his hair to get the drips out of his face, his muscles rippling in a most distracting way. Eric’s cock was quite appreciative and twitched in his sweats.

“I don’t get too many dogs rushing to join me in my morning swim.” “Sorry, she never can resist getting in the water.”

Eric was trying hard to concentrate on the conversation, but really, most of his attention was taken by the view in front of him. He spent his days surrounded by handsome men and beautiful women, but this man took his breath away. His dark blond hair curled damply around his ears, and his bright blue eyes sparkled in amusement. Damn, could I get more girly?

“Eric?” Eric blinked. “Uh… yes?” He’d been so busy staring at the water droplets running down Thomas’s chest… and—oh, are they freckles? Eric couldn’t tell from this distance.

“Earth to Eric?”

He dragged his gaze away reluctantly from Thomas’s body to his face. Not that it was any less distracting with those eyes…. Fuck, those eyes. “Yes?” Thomas was smirking at him unashamedly.

“Would you mind calling your dog back? I’m getting cold now, and I’d like to get out.”

Eric stared at him stupidly for a minute, and then his brain finally got on board with the conversation. “Yes… I mean, sorry. Millie, come here girl.”

Cover Reveal – Nights Like These; by Chris Scully

Cover Reveal – Nights Like These; by Chris Scully

NightsLikeTheseORIG_final_v01

Blurb:

Starting over sucks. At forty, Miles Koprowski thought he had life all figured out. He had a nice car, a hot young lover, and a cushy job… and then he didn’t. Call it fate, or karma, or a downturn in the market, but this opinionated cynic is now forced to play rent-a-cop in a dying office building in the burbs just to make ends meet. Throw in an unhinged ex, a coworker who hates him, and a hot new boss, and suddenly everything is uncertain.

Miles doesn’t plan on liking the night shift or becoming embroiled in a mystery that reawakens old passions and puts him in danger. And he certainly doesn’t plan on falling for the overbearing head of security, Colton Decker, former soldier and doting dad. But nights like these can change a man, make him start to believe there’s more to life than a high paying job and a warm body in his bed. With a thief on the loose and his new job in jeopardy, Miles will have to decide what’s truly important. He might discover things he never knew he wanted… as long as he makes it through the night.

Cover Artist: Bree Archer
Meet the Author:

Chris was good enough to answer a couple questions to go with the cover reveal:

Favorite place to read?

I’m not picky. Any time, any place is my motto. I read a lot on my commute and have missed subway stops because of it. The only place I don’t read is bed, oddly enough. I guess my favorite place would be on a beach somewhere with a cocktail at my side.

Favorite place to write?

In order to be productive, I have to be at my desk in my home office with no interruptions or distractions. It also has the right keyboard set up for me—this is important because I do have some ergonomic issues. It’s not necessarily my favorite place, but it’s the only one that works for me so far. That said, I do my best planning and creative thinking outside the office, so I carry a notebook with me all the time to capture ideas. When I’m stuck, I go for a walk, and that helps get the brain cells going again.

Excerpt:

“Why don’t you watch where you’re going, dumb—” I managed to sputter before my mouth stopped working entirely and dropped open. The ability to speak, to think, deserted me at the first sight of the hunky stranger standing in front of me, his face contorted with apology as he tried to mop up my sodden jacket with a handful of napkins. He was a few inches taller than me—closer to six feet—and on the stocky side. His broad shoulders filled out a nicely tailored suit, and he projected an air of confidence that I’d never be able to pull off in a million years. He was clean-shaven too, with a dark buzz cut that made me long to run a hand over his head simply to feel the texture. And gorgeous. Did I happen to mention that?

In short, he was the kind of guy you’d want to be stranded with on a deserted island; the kind you could count on to save you. If you were so inclined. Me? I didn’t need saving.

A pair of friendly, light-colored eyes now stared back at me, bemused. Odd that his lips were moving, but no sound was coming out.

“What?” I asked, blinking back to attention. I couldn’t remember the last time anyone had literally made me speechless. Me, Miles Koprowski, who never met a silence he didn’t want to fill.

Hell, I couldn’t recall the last time I’d been on the receiving end of a full-body pat-down either. At least not so quickly. His hands were still drifting over my chest, wiping up the last drips of coffee, and the simple touch was doing alarming things to my heart rate.

“Are you okay?” he demanded. “Did you get burned?” Before I could react, he seized my wrist and held my hand up for inspection. Strong, lightly calloused fingers, I added to my mental list. Working hands. Dumbly, I looked down. The skin on the back of my right hand was red and stung like a son of a bitch, but it wasn’t blistering. I did flinch slightly when he skimmed his thumb over the sensitive area, but not from pain, more from the touch itself. My entire body lit up, as though I’d stuck a finger in an electrical socket. “It doesn’t look too bad. I think you’ll live. Put some aloe on it when you get home.”

“Doctor?” I croaked, because really, that would be too perfect.

“Nope. Just seen a lot of injuries.” His lips twitched with barely contained amusement. “Sorry to disappoint you.” Sense of humor, check.

Badge2x3

First, a Merry Christmas to all who celebrate this holiday.

Please welcome Sam Kadencne/Lissa Kasey to the blog today. Sam/Lissa is here to talk about a few books, give readers an excerpt from each book and to have a gift away.  After you read the excerpts, make sure you enter the context at the end of the post.

Excerpts:
HIDDEN GEM:

0Alphahiddengem_final03First Glimpse by Lissa Kasey

Aki swept up a bottle of McNaughton’s favorite scotch and headed toward the broad Irishman. The man’s shoulders were arched forward, back tense, hair a sexy mess, and face covered with a couple days’ growth. Obviously the cop was on a difficult case. The detective hadn’t yet asked for him, just for his usual meal—almost bloody steak with a baked potato.

“You look like you could use a drink,” Aki told him as he slid into the chair beside him. He turned an empty glass over and poured three fingers of the golden liquid.

McNaughton sighed, his dark eyes roaming over Aki’s small body, platinum blond hair pulled up and styled with sparkling pins, see-thru knit top, and super-short skirt, then over his bare legs down to the gleaming heels. The shoes were a silver mesh of crystals that slid up just past his ankles. A gift from McNaughton. The cop sucked in a deep breath and slid his hand over the covered part of Aki’s thigh. He knew better than to touch bare flesh to bare flesh. Aki was a cognitive psi, could see entire lives of horrors with a single touch, and he was sure McNaughton’s past was filled with a lot of nasty memories.

“Wish you had time for me tonight. But I’ve got a feeling you’re booked up tight.” He glanced back at the room bustling with companions and potential customers. Aki was the only psi in the room, his pale-pupiled blue eyes telling the world that he was different.

“I’m sure Bart can fit you in.” Aki’s eyes scanned the room until he found his boss, who was engaged with negotiations with another client. “Looks like you need some trouble eased tonight.” He leaned in close enough his breath ran across McNaughton’s cheek.

McNaughton turned his head, lips nearly close enough to touch. “Would love a bit of time with your shine.”

“Words like honey, McNaughton.”

The cop flashed him one of his rare, heart-stopping smiles then nodded as Bart appeared beside them. “Table seven is ready, Aki. Number one.” Bart told him.

Aki grabbed Bart’s wrist with a gloved hand. “The cop needs some time tonight. You can make that happen, right?”

“Of course.” Bart nodded to them and took Aki’s vacated seat and Aki made his way to his next client of the evening. There were only two services Aki performed. A hand job and a blow job, one and two. This client wanted number one—which meant he was cheap since rarely did anyone ask for a hand job from him. But his prices were astronomical anyway.

“Hello,” Aki smiled at the man as he slid into the chair opposite him. The client was dressed nice, button down shirt, pressed pants, but he was bald and a little heavier around the waist. A politician probably. “If you’re ready we can head upstairs.”

The man barely spoke, but he leered, eyes tracing over Aki’s form more like he was cattle than a night of entertainment. Even in his worst moments McNaughton had never done that. It wasn’t appreciation, but something darker. Aki sighed internally and hoped this would be fast. He knew a thousand ways to get a man off in minutes. Something about him just set off Aki’s creep radar.

“I hear some wait months for the pleasure of your time,” the man said with slightly accented speech.

Not usually. The only ones who waited weeks were because their schedule and Aki’s conflicted or because they’d done something to upset him or Bart. Most clients got in within a few days if not the same day of requesting Aki’s time. And regulars were always given precedence over someone not yet vetted like this client. “If I don’t please you I can see if Preston or Royce is available.”

“I was hoping for Candy originally.”

Was always good to be told he was second choice. Aki gritted his teeth. “Candy only serves a special kind of client. And he does have a wait list.” Mostly because he took clients who wanted a little more kink than any of the other male companions preferred. Aki was going to recommend this client be removed from the premises after the service was over.

“I guess you’ll have to do then. Won’t you?” He gave Aki a chilling smile.

Bastard. Aki got up from his seat and offered his gloved hand to the man who followed closely. They’d reached the stairs when the man grabbed him, yanked Aki against him and shoved his hand up Aki’s skirt, groping him and sending him into a spiral of nightmares.

A dark room. The metallic stink of blood. Screams. The sound of knives being sharpened. Metal bars clanking. Crying. Pain. The music of an ice cream truck. How odd. It was all ripped away a moment later, but Aki’s stomach was already heaving. The small plate of fruit and yogurt he’d had for dinner was not going to stay down.

Someone carried him unceremoniously to the private companion bathroom near the kitchen and set him in front of the toilet just as the mash of fruits and dairy came up. Aki heaved a couple of minutes, his brain swirling with the images that thankfully began to fade just as quickly as they’d come. With any luck he’d be able to brush his teeth, wash his face and go about his work day.

He glanced up to find Manny, the head of security standing at the door. McNaughton knelt beside Aki. Had held his hair back and even used his jacket to cover Aki’s bottom. The skirts really were too short.

“Bart is already having the guy removed. He should never have touched you like that. Sorry I didn’t get to you quicker,” Manny told Aki. “Grateful to you, Detective, for responding so quickly.”

McNaughton stroked Aki’s back, using the soft material of the sweater to run circles over his spine. “Want to talk about it?”

Aki sighed. “Same crap. Just weird. Darkness, crying, smelled blood. Heard knives.” He shook his head. “The guy could work at a butcher for all I know. The memories get so jumbled.” Often with his own horrific past. “Thought I heard a kid. And bars rattling like in a jail. And the music from an ice cream truck.”

McNaughton nodded like it made perfect sense to him and helped Aki get up and make his way to the sink where there were spare toothbrushes and endless varieties of paste. The cop leaned over and kissed Aki’s hair. “Gotta go. I’ll have Bart reschedule me sometime this week though. Love that you wore my shoes.” He was gone a moment later.

Aki cleaned up and made his way back to work. At least the night was almost over. He was sad that McNaughton hadn’t stayed. Would have liked to see that smile another time or two. At least the rest of the night flew by without incident, even if the detective didn’t return.

“Sleeping with me tonight?” Candy asked as he stripped out of their work clothes, leaving just a pair of bright pink underwear and crawled into bed. His purple hair was already brushed and eyes heavy with sleep.

“Please,” Aki whispered. He stripped off everything but his underwear too. After putting his shoes and pins away, he washed his face.

“Heard that guy touched you. What a jerk.”

“He wanted you to begin with.” Aki curled up beside his best friend.

Candy flicked off the light. “I would have brought him down a few pegs.”

Aki smiled, but he didn’t want to think of the horrible man at all. Those memories just needed to go away. He had enough of his own to battle with each day. He fell asleep hoping to wake up with less nasty memories each day.

The next afternoon Aki was up early and at Artie’s for breakfast—best 24/7 diner in the area—when McNaughton arrived. The man sat down at his table without asking and pushed a pair of slim, jeweled, yellow flat sandals into Aki’s hands. “What’s this for?” Aki asked.

He just shook his head. He threw a stack of cash on the table and motioned to the waitress. “Anything he wants is on me.” He then got up from the table and headed for the door.

“Well that was weird,” Aki said to LuAnn, the waitress.

She pointed at the Vid screen. “He had a rough night. Caught the guy who was killing kids.” The Vidscreen was turned to the news. Something about a man named the “Ice Cream Killer” had been captured. Apparently he used an ice cream truck to lure kids in, kidnapped them, raped them and killed them. Real monster.

A picture popped up of the guy. It was the client from the Gem. Maybe that’s why McNaughton was at the Gem. No matter what he hoped the detective visited him tonight. The new yellow shoes would need a new skirt to match…

UNICORNS AND RAINBOW POOP:

0Alpha“So I was thinking since you and I both care about Tommy, we have something in common. See, Tommy is stressed, and I thought we could do something nice for him.”

Dane sat but glared at the man suspiciously. “What sort of nice thing?”

Bas motioned to the bags. “We’re going to make him cookies.”

Dane gulped. “I don’t like food.”

You won’t be eating it. Tommy will. He canceled a class to come here. Did he tell you? He was taking a theater class at the community college back in Minnesota. Had to withdraw to be here. And with college, you know that means giving up any money paid. Not that money matters much to you guys. Though as young as you all are, I hope you’re well invested.”

Bas shrugged at him and began taking things out of the bags. Flour, eggs, sugar—both white and brown—food coloring, butter, vanilla, and lemons.

“I didn’t know,” Dane said quietly. He’d thought Tommy would be the least affected by his problems. Of course he’d been wrong about that too. Couldn’t he do anything right? “I don’t know anything about cooking.”

“That’s okay. I got this recipe online. It’s pretty easy. We’re making unicorn poop cookies.”

“What?”

“They are sugar cookies with food coloring in them to make them all rainbow-like. Unicorns are good luck and all that. Supposed to be the embodiment of goodness and purity.” Bas picked up his tablet, tapped the screen, and flipped it so Dane could see. The cookies really did look like a big pile of rainbow poop.

“Looks tasty,” Dane grumbled.

“We shall see, right? Think you can measure for me?” He pulled out a couple of cookie sheets and turned on one of the many ovens. “I got permission to use the kitchen here, but we can’t get too rowdy or they’ll kick me out.” He winked at Dane. “I’m pretty sure the orderlies outside are to make sure I’m not burning the place down.”

Dane got up and moved around the counter to stare at the list of ingredients. Bas plugged in a big mixer and took the mixing bowl out of it, bringing it to the counter for them to fill.

“This is really for Tommy?”

“Sure. We can send some to Ru and Adam too if you’d like. I heard they are only an hour or so away.”

“I don’t want Ru to know I’m here,” Dane said immediately. He didn’t need to mess up anyone else’s life.

“No worries. We need tell them nothing other than that they are from you.”

EXCERPT FOR ON THE RIGHT TRACK

RU’S phone pinged with a new message from Tommy.

Looks like another one, sorry.

The text was attached to a photo of the cover of a magazine featuring Ru kissing his ex-boyfriend Kris and then a smaller picture of Kris kissing another guy. Headline for that one was Vocal Growth Star Jilted! Six months and still front page news.

He sighed. Even leaving California hadn’t helped. Here he was in the cold autumn of Minnesota, alone, but still stalked by the conservative media who thought anyone under eighteen didn’t deserve to recognize their sexuality. Sure he was gay. He’d known for years. Had even made the mistake of telling his father when he was eleven. Why did that make him a bad guy?

As part of a boy band that had traveled the world a few times and won a hefty number of awards, he was required to maintain a wholesome image. At least that’s what his former recording studio had told him. And wholesome didn’t mean kissing another guy, even when he and Kris had been exclusive for almost two years. So, while it was okay for other celebrities to come out and show pride, anyone under the magical age of eighteen was ridiculed, cast out, and treated as a pariah of the community.

Do you need me to come stay with you? Tommy texted again. He was a former bandmate but still a good friend. Tommy hadn’t cared when Ru told him he was gay. He did offer to kick the crap out of Kris after the guy had set them up to be photographed together, outing Ru to the whole world, only to then cheat on him. Would Ru’s heart ever stop breaking at the memory?

Ru texted back He never really loved me, did he?

A Few Pre-Christmas ’14 pictures.

Today being Festivus, I’m wearing my Festivus shirt. I want to wish you all a very happy Festivus for the rest of us. Try not to air too many grievance and don’t let anyone get hurt during the Feats of Strength.

Hard to believe this is my fourth Christmas as a Papa. I feel like it was just a few months ago that I took ‘lil q to see Santa for the first time  This time she actually told him what she wanted.  Sadly the picture wasn’t the best, they were moving kids in and out and didn’t even make an effort to get her to smile. Oh well, she looked cute in her dress.

We also got a tree – of course – but we’ll still decorating it – sorry, but it takes time when she ‘wants to help.’

And of course there was a Christmas ‘concert’ at the pre-school.

Only one other Shifter has ever left the sacred homelands searching for his mate and Justin is hopeful that he’ll be just as successful but the threat of violence against Shifters is ever threatening as conflict escalates.

Connor has worked hard to make a name for himself. He is an influential member of society with contacts with the business and political leaders of Whitewater. He owns and manages a successful nightclub that is soon branching off into additional prospects that will open even more red carpet opportunities for him. Everything is falling into place for him financially but he has no one with whom to share his accomplishments.

Justin makes the decision to move to the city and meets his mate when Connor hits him with his car. Connor’s initial reaction is to push Justin away because of his young age but the draw to the young Shifter is too much for Connor to resist. Justin struggles with finding his own way and fights for the chance to prove himself to Connor.

Justin is faced with making the right decisions so he doesn’t push Connor away while fighting with his own wolf to maintain control of his mind and his body. He fights with his own self-doubt in the hopes of proving to Connor that he doesn’t need the man’s success he only needs the man.

Author Bio:

Tina Blenke is a retired Air Force brat and has lived in several states as well as a handful of countries. She has always had a soft spot for literature and is a voracious reader. When she isn’t writing, she can be found cuddled up with a good book. Though Tina adores a thrilling novel with sappy lovesick heroes, she is terrified of things that go bump in the night. This makes for quite a complicated relationship with zombies, something that she just can’t get enough of.
