Barely Above Water

In her latest release Gail Pallotta drew from a life experience. She has Chronic Lyme Disease and found it extremely difficult to find treatment or information about the illness. She says, “By the grace of God, I found two Lyme literate doctors, David Lee, D.C., Ph.D., C.Ad., and Raphael d’Angelo, M.D., who’s also a holistic doctor. Now I have an active lifestyle.” Gail wanted to share what she learned with others, especially those who may suffer from the disease and know it, or in some instances, suffer with it, but don’t have any idea what’s wrong with them.

Barely Above Water by Gail Pallotta In "Barely Above Water" an illness comes out of nowhere and strikes Suzie Morris. Her boyfriend dumps her. She has no living family, and her physician can’t diagnose the malady. Suzie relies on her Christian faith as she faces the uncertainty of the disease, and turns to a renowned alternative doctor in Destin, Florida. She takes a job coaching a county-sponsored summer swim team. She’s determined to turn the fun, sometimes comical, rag-tag bunch into winners. Her handsome boss renews her belief in love, but learns of her mysterious affliction and abruptly cuts romantic ties. Later he has regrets, but can he overcome his fear of losing a loved one and regain Suzie’s trust?

Gail shares her first hand experience with a mysterious disease:Many discuss whether or not Chronic Lyme Disease exists. I know it does because I have it. When I grew ill ten years ago, the doctor told me there was nothing he could do for me, because he couldn’t make a diagnosis. The name of a chiropractor kept popping in my head. I couldn’t imagine why. I didn’t need an adjustment. Even if I had, I didn’t know his first name, or how to reach him. Finally, I called a friend who had been to him ten years earlier for a hurt back. He turned out to be David G. Lee, D.C., Ph.D, C.Ad., now an alternative doctor as well as a chiropractor. He started treating me immediately, removing a toxic substance. Several months later a scan revealed I have Chronic Lyme Disease.
When I asked why Chronic Lyme Disease didn’t show up in the beginning, Dr. Lee explained the spiral-shaped bacteria hides in the body. That’s why the ailment is so difficult to diagnose and patients are often sent away without help. Some are even told their symptoms are just in their heads. Because divine intervention led me to Dr. Lee, I found help and lead an active life.
Since then, I’ve heard from others, who are searching for answers about Chronic Lyme Disease, because they either have it or suspect they have it. In Barely Above Water I wanted to share some of the treatments that keep me on my feet. I also wanted the book to be a fun read, so I wove the symptoms and therapies around a romance and a cute bunch of youngsters on a summer league swim team. In the back of the book Dr. Lee and one of his cohorts answer questions about this mysterious illness.
